Despite all the glancing over his shoulder he'd done to be sure no one was looking his way, the longer he fought with his suit, the more distracted he became. When somebody finally did decide to head over to see what the issue was, Steve had no idea and, in fact, had his back turned to his new visitor.

It was only when he heard the low voice behind him, a voice that almost struck him as some sort of growl, Steve suddenly turned, looking a little bit winded as he clearly his throat and lifted an elbow to lean not so comfortably against the wall. "Uh, hey-- hey, how ya--"

And then he was just staring because what stared back at him was definitely not what he was expecting, though the real reaction didn't set in until a second later when he suddenly jerked away from the wall, jumping a little and moving abruptly to his right as though he'd suddenly decided he wanted a way out. Because it wasn't human, it was-- it was some kind of animal thing staring back at him with its beady red eyes.

"Uh-- Hey, does this ... thing-- uh, guy ... belong to anyone?" he called, though he wasn't even sure he could be heard over the music by anybody standing more than a few feet away from him. Which was, unfortunately, the whole entirety of the room.

She didn't really see many people she recognised. Even after two months in the town, she hadn't had enough of a personal life to recognise more than faces of people she hadn't personally treated at the clinic - or elsewhere, in the case of the young boy with the overly curled hair who was attempting to get a dance with a blonde girl. Nynaeve couldn't help but smile at the innocence and shyness as she took a sip of her drink, though she would surely keep an eye on them.

When she saw Wanda entering, she offered a warm, friendly smile, nodding at her colleague over her plastic cup. She liked the woman, for all that they hadn't actually spent any time together outside of work. Not from any doing of Wanda's, of course. Nynaeve just worked until she could hardly keep her eyes open anymore. If she wasn't at the clinic, she was asleep, typically. If this town had had no medical care when the... previous version of her had been here, it was really no wonder she had opened that clinic with Leonard McCoy. There was something even more satisfying about running the medical centre than there was about being a village Wisdom.

A young girl sat nearby on a table, eating from a mountain on her plate that looked about as big as her head. Nynaeve quirked an eyebrow at the ravenous way the child ate - and the state of her attire - before noticing @Johnny Blaze approaching the girl, good-naturedly scolding her. The obnoxious way the child shrugged him off made Nynaeve quite certain she needed a good bit of discipline, not overly friendly grins.

When she took a few steps closer to Johnny, however, she didn't say anything about that, although she was tempted. She did shoot the girl a look, before focusing her attention on the older man. Out of everyone aside from perhaps Wanda, she knew Johnny the best, and she had been meaning to catch up with him regarding his health anyway. "I'm almost surprised to see you here," she said, "given how hesitant you sounded about the event when we last spoke. How are you doing? Are my herbs still working?"

Johnny rolled his eyes slightly, picking up a Christmas cookie off her plate as she offered the food. ”I didn’t say they wouldn’t let you in. Just said formal attire was apart of the event. Yah stick out like a sore thumb now. Not much the style of a thief, eh?” He teased her with a grin, taking a bite of his cookie as he did so.

Ah well: maybe it was for the best. As he noticed the interesting cast of characters (waving cheerfully back at the Sherriff who was dressed as Santa), he didn’t think he’d want any of them coming up to Lift to dance. He noticed that Dustin kid, the kid that flipped his shit when he found out he was Ghost Rider, and hoped he would be too focused on the pretty blond girl to give him much notice.

    That’d be awkward.

”So you gonna ask a boy to dance?” He continued to tease, mercilessly. If he remembered anything from his own high school dances it was that girls and boys thought asking each other to dance was the height of stress. Those were the good ole-days….

And that’s when the good Doctor showed up. ”Hey Doc!” He greeted Nynaeve al’Meara. ”Yah look like a million bucks.” He told her, referring to the beautiful green gown she had donned. Let her hair down indeed. He noticed the way she glared at Lift, and hopefully the compliment would temper her down a bit. She was one quick-tempered lady, just from the few times he’d talked to her out and about.

”Yah…. I’ll try not to stay too long.” He said, sticking his hands back in his pockets, ”This really ain’t my cup of tea, yah know?” Social Events, that was.

He turned suddenly, coughing into the crook of his arm. Away from Nyn and Lift, so they wouldn’t be subject to the coughing spell. Damn….. He tried to distract the Doc with something else….. which she offered in her question about those sleep herbs.

”Herbs are working great! Best night’s sleep for a while though… speaking of which…. You got anything for the flu? My uh…. Friend of mine is staying with me and got sick as a dog last night.” He said, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. ”She ain’t the type for fancy new-age medicine. Insists on herbs or magical healing…”

  4. "It's nothing, really, I just wanted to contribute in some way to compensate for how I have been too busy to be able to help the town until now." Byakuren giggled a little at his joke, then looked over at everyone who had gathered for the party. "This was a wonderful idea, to give all these people some rest from the difficulties faced in this town on such a regular basis. I was more than glad to contribute to such an event, even if the holiday comes from a different religion than mine."

As she glanced around the area, it was all the more clear that there were very few people that Byakuren actually knew attending. That made it all the more clear how she had been so isolated from the rest of the Misty Hollow community. One of the few people she recognized was Johnny, who she had not seen in quite some time and as such, she wanted to perhaps talk to him a little. She saw that he was busy talking to one of the other women attending and so, not wanting to interrupt, Byakuren decided to leave the talking for later.

For now, she was content to just watch the movement happening around him, wondering if anyone would be interested in dancing with her. She wasn't much of a dancer herself, but for this occasion, she was more willing to give it a try... as long as her partner didn't mind the clumsiness that came with it.

Cynthia almost missed the smile a woman passing by gave Glaceon. When she spotted it, her own mouth curved into a small grin. It was never a surprise when her adorable eeveelution brought smiles to people's mouths.

The smile disappeared when she heard someone calling out to the room. Turning to see what he was talking about, she sighed softly and approached. Now, why would Lucario decide to head over to that person, she wondered.

The Pokémon in question cocked his head to the side in mild confusion. The human's reaction was hard to get a read on, but his aura was slightly panicked. He instantly lifted a paw as if to grab and steady the human, but then he suddenly started yelling for his trainer, who wasted no time in coming close.

"Is Lucario causing you trouble?" she asked once she made it across the room. She doubted he did much other than startle the guy, but she had to check. Glaceon seemed oblivious to any tension, sitting by Cynthia's ankle, tail wagging.

He picked up one of the nicest kinda cookies she'd put on the plate, and she gave him an accusing look as though he'd taken it because she thought it was the nicest. Probably had. Sounded like summat an adult would do. She coughed at his comment, thumping her chest as sandwich crumbs went down her lung pipe.

"Yeah, well, you're the one storming yellin' it from the rooftops," she hissed at him. There was people stood all around, and while she did find it fun getting to run away from guards and stuff, she'd rather not everyone in the storming town knew she was a thief. She kept her voice low, just'n case. "Anyways, I don't look like a thief. Thieves look better'n than this 'cause they steal nice things to wear."

Then he was asking her if she was gonna ask a boy to dance and she shrugged her shoulders, suddenly uncomfortable. Dancing wasn't summat she'd thought of for a few weeks, not since she'd decided it'd be best not to learn 'cause learning would be one step towards her becoming some fragile dainty pretty little thing... like that blonde girl in the nice dress. That wasn't her.

'Sides, there was only one person she'd wanna dance with anyways, and he wasn't there.

She couldn't do more than give Johnny a disdainful look at the idea of asking any of these boys to dance before some lady came over and engaged him in talk about herbs. Lift didn't miss the mean look neither. Not summat she wasn't used to. Lots of adults mistrusted her on sight. She was used to it; it was a reaction she'd dealt with pretty much all of her life.

She didn't listen much until Johnny deliberately neglected to mention that the sick lady in his house was his special friend, and she glanced at him with a raised eyebrow. Normally if ya avoided mentioning that, it was 'cause you wanted the other person to think ya were unattached. She'd seen men using this tactic all the time on the streets and in taverns she'd broken in to to get some hot food. And this lady was very pretty.

    Naughty Johnny.

"Ain't interested in dancing. I'll, ah, leave ya to it," she said carelessly, a wicked smirk touching her lips before she hopped off the table and wandered off, still holding her plate. She spotted Dustin, but decided she wasn't gonna be mean enough to interrupt his attempt at charming the very same dainty-looking blonde. She wasn't that rude.

By this point, some people had started chatting happily away with others they clearly knew, or at least Jefferson tried to guess that they did. At no time was anyone yelping in fear and/or trying to run away from anyone else, so that had to be a good thing.

At this same time, it did make him a little lonely, because he knew that Belle wouldn't be here tonight. She had pretty much disappeared from Pandora a long while ago, and that had been one of the many factors that led him to this new neighborhood. Perhaps he should work up a little of his old confidence, and so manage to pull himself away from this table for a few minutes. Just in case there were any new connections to be made, never mind potential friends.

Then again...somebody could always try speaking to him instead, like...this brown-haired young lady had just decided to do. One that, unfortunately, he couldn't agree to recognizing even if she had seemed to recognize him first.

"I'm afraid not, Miss," he answered her, a sheepish look crossing his face. "This is the first time we've ever crossed paths. Still..."

He finished pouring the latest glass of punch; then slowly held it out to her.

"...Might I offer you some refreshment?"

The dance was getting a good turn-out though Tiana had opted to run the refreshment table as she had offered to have her restaurant provide the food and drink, a christmas present for the community. Even if another gentleman had taken it upon himself to hand out drinks and cake, every little helps after all and it meant she could monitor the refreshment table instead of mingling.

Especially as her thoughts were straying to home, and wondering what her first christmas with her husband would have been like.

And while the other man kept the party-goers happy with handing out the refreshments, she could make sure the snacks and drinks didn't run out and could nip back to get more from her restaurant. Besides punch and christmas cake, the bistro had provided mulled wine for the grown-ups, a gingerbread house and a yule log were the centerpieces and were surrounded by plates of various savory and sweet nibbles.

Between the tight suit and the thing staring back at him now, Steve was feeling just a little overwhelmed. He'd come here to have a good time and he was feeling real attacked. Because clearly everything was out to get him, suit included. It was to his relief some random girl came over to claim something over the thing. Ownership or ... friendship or whatever, like hell if Steve knew and to be honest, he didn't really care, he just didn't want to be the one standing there talking to it. Or her.

Was that rude? Maybe, but Steve had done a lot of rude shit in his life and he was about to add something else to the list.

"Not yet. Let's keep it that way." In other words, keep that thing to yourself. Maybe Misty Hollow was used to stuff like this. Maybe Pandora as a whole was used to stuff like this, but Steve Harrington, who had just come from a place where monsters were literally crawling out of a hole in the ground and eating people's cats, was not. And he didn't want anything to do with any of it either.

So he suddenly turned to head across the room, leaving the girl and her pet monster behind, not even casting a glance over he shoulder even if he may have wanted to. He was playing it cool, but it his head, there was a lot of swearing going on, so he made his way over to the punch bowl like he'd originally planned.

Little did he know after all the wrestling he'd just done with his suit, his fly was down.

Wanda looked genuinely puzzled over not being able to place him, as if she'd narrowly caught her own mind playing tricks on her. The very mind that insisted on pinning on some name that rhymed with Plucky Farms to his face. Blinking a few times, she shook her head with a small apologetic smile to match the man's sheepish expression. If he said as much, she wasn't going to be an idiot and press the issue.

"You're probably right," she agreed, glancing back over the party proper, full of life - some parts a little awkward to see, but that was par the course. The gentle sigh puffing out of her lips was better much described as self-directed exasperation than disappointment. This was what happened when she decided to be gung ho and proactive about her ruminations instead of stewing uselessly in them - but at least now she knew immediately, right?

She blinked again at the offering of punch, and her eyes crinkled amiably. Maybe her date had gotten a little distracted in the quest to find drinks. It wouldn't surprise her if he heard a cat stuck in the trees outside and had gone to rescue it- but for now she was content to wait for him by the refreshments table. "Sure, I'll take it. Thank you..." Taking in the glass with an appreciative tip of her head, her lips pursed together as she struggled for the name. Not Plucky Farms. "I actually don't think I've seen you in town before."

Irony, that. She saw many faces in Misty Hollow, and had a penchant for committing all of them to memory regardless of whether she knew their name or not - especially if theirs was a curiously familiar one. As far as the town went, he seemed a little newer than average? "I'm Wanda."

The kid she spotted struggling earlier was making his way toward them and the punch. And oh, he was not having any luck with his outfit today. She ahemed loudly to catch his attention as he approached. Her brows raised meaningfully and the hand that held her glass of punch subtly pointed an index finger in the direction of his fly.

The girl turned to look at him and smiled and Dustin proceeded to have some sort of intense heart palpitation that made him lose all the confidence he’d had that had driven him to walk over to her in the first place. It all just went and he was left smiling stupidly at her and no idea where he’d planned on taking the conversation once he’d gotten past the introduction stage.

Up close she seemed far prettier than any of the girls he’d ever seen at Hawkins and though he couldn’t imagine her for a second liking a single thing he was into like video games and ghostbusters, he was pretty sure he was in love. It might have been a proximity thing though, considering Dustin was at the age where he was starting to thing any girl who would spare him a glance or a couple of words was the prettiest girl he’d ever seen.

Her name was @Briar Rose and he wanted to tell her she looked pretty, that her name was pretty. Something other than the introduction. Something in response to her compliment, a thanks or something cool. He stared at her for a moment longer than necessary and then blinked and smoothed a hand down the front of his jacket.

”Oh. Yeah, thanks. It’s a rental. I like your dress, the colours suit you.” He replied in what he hoped was a suave manner and then smiled that big toothy cheerful smile at her again, ”Would you like to dance?” He blurted suddenly and offered her a hand. He couldn’t have looked any more innocently hopeful if he’d tried.

The obnoxious child left, wandering off with the kind of smirk Nynaeve did not like at all. The Aes Sedai stared after her a moment - was she Johnny's child? - before returning her focus to @Johnny Blaze.

Truth be told she was somewhat glad that the man was requesting her aid. Going back to her office was the perfect excuse to get away from this dance for a bit. At least until the dancing started properly. She did enjoy dancing... if there was anyone here who might ask her, anyway.

But she didn't think long about it, simply listened as Johnny explained that his friend had the flu. She nodded along, though she would ask on symptoms once they were in private. Not that she didn't trust him, but sometimes things could look like the flu when they weren't.

"If you'll just come back to my office with me, I'll get you sorted," she said, gesturing for him to move over to the wall, away from anyone else. Gateways were dangerous, the edges capable of slicing through anything - including the human body. So she moved to one of the few empty spaces, embracing saidar and weaving the flows for a gateway. A silvery line appeared in the air, rotating into a door-size hole through which the desk in her office was visible.

She heard a couple of gasps and mutters at the sudden appearance of a hole in the air, but otherwise, people seemed to be too focused on the dance to really notice. She caught Johnny's eye, motioned for him to follow her, and then stepped through the gateway, closing it again once he had entered her office with her.

Johnny chuckled, clearly not taking Lift’s alternate lifestyle of thieving as seriously as the girl did, eating the cookie that she was glaring at him for with a contented sigh. If there was one good thing about social situations it was the free food. That alone he could get down with Lift for.

However: his good mood quickly plummeted when Lift gave him a saucy sort of look. Like she was a southern belle that just got wind of some real tasty gossip cause he was talking to another lady who wasn’t his girlfriend.

”Lift don’t you get the wrong idea now-.” He sighed heavily as she raced off. He ran a hand through his hair nervously. Last he needed was female drama back at his house cause Lift got the wrong idea about why he was talking to the Doc. He turned to Nynaeve, letting out a grimace. ”Sorry about that.” He muttered to Nynaeve. Not sure how to really explain Lift’s smirk, or her bad manners being something she was raised with on the street.

Before he could really say anything more on the matter….. Nynaeve was gesturing with a hand and saying they’d go back to her office. ”Oh! Er…. Right now? I don’t wanna trouble yah-.”

And before poor Johnny could talk the woman out of making a scene on his account…. She opened a portal thing. He felt his face go beet red under all the attention of the party goers as he quickly followed her through it before they could take too much attention……

He'd been standing idly by the punch bowl, waiting for the moment he could step in and get some for himself as the pair by it chatted away. He definitely felt more at ease over here where he wasn't being harassed by some kind of monster thing that he didn't want anything to do with, even if his suit was still too damn tight.

That was when he heard the ahem to his side, quiet but firm enough to grab his attention. Steve flicked his gaze distractedly over to her, brows furrowing in confusion as though to say ' What do you want? ' After all, she seemed plenty distracted by her friend that he hadn't expected to actually be addressed.

It took him a second, even as his blue eyes slipped down to her casually gesturing finger. And then it suddenly hit him just what she was pointing out and his eyes widened. "Shit," he ground out, suddenly turning his back to her and promptly zipping himself back up again.

Suffice to say, this evening was not going fantastically for him.

Cynthia's eyebrow raised as the young man seemed rather hostile about Lucario apparently having done nothing. He walked away before she could even decide how she wished to respond, which was a little frustrating.

Both of her teammates watched the humans with mild disinterest. Dealing with conversations was her job, so they didn't bother trying to get involved. Lucario's eyes narrowed at the strange human's rude tone of voice directed at his trainer. All he wanted to do was be of assistance, and his trainer had to deal with attitude?

Turning to both of her Pokémon, Cynthia suggested, "I recommend both of you stay next to me for the rest of the night. It will probably make things much easier." She didn't doubt that Lucario meant well, but that didn't mean other people would.

Once Lucario nodded his agreement, the trio walked back out into the party, Glaceon still jumping gleefully around, happy to be around so many people.

Jefferson. I must admit, I'm still fairly new here, however I believe there's room for im...

Oh, dear. He found himself drifting off in the middle of his sentence, but only because some well-meaning youngster got caught in the middle of what the locals called 'a wardrobe malfunction'. One gesture from Miss Wanda seemed to fix it—thank goodness—but it still left him a little dumbfounded just the same.

Improvement in the creation of clothing, maybe?

Eh-h-h. He just might be grasping at straws out here, considering part of his mind went blank after saying these words out loud. At the moment, he hadn't really been thinking about work all that much, but probably only because he'd been able to eat down at the Shelter for a while. That, and a long list of tasks he'd done around various neighborhoods in exchange for money, as long as they didn't break any laws.

Then again, if he didn't offend this young man by accident, he just might have an idea for a business venture in the making.

"Oh. Are you a designer, Mr. Jefferson?" she inquired conversationally, an absent-minded eye still lingering on the young man and his wardrobe malfunction - because yes, that phrase summed it up aptly.

The implied expertise on clothing was fairly interesting. He did look like someone who walked out of a high fashion magazine, which reminded her of... Janet Van Dyne no, she didn't know anyone like that. Neither could Wanda claim a similar level of passion, despite a casual interest in arranging styles. She would have been happy to learn a little more about it, if not for the burgundy suit kid's struggles which nearly made her wince.

So instead she gave Jefferson a meaningful look, and nudged her head in the direction of the young man's turned back. As if to suggest that maybe throwing him a lifeline, however small of a distraction, might be nice.

"Hey," she addressed Burgundy Suit Kid, calmly. "Did you want punch?" She slid her own untouched glass toward him, almost like a peace offering.

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. The day was finally here!

Rubbing his hands together, Plas ignored the cold and strolled up to the door with a spring in his step that was just a touch more than metaphorical. He was happy, man! This was what Christmas was all about, big parties and stupid dances and more food and drink than a guy could reasonably handle! Eel might not be exactly on speaking terms with his Catholic heritage these days, but there was still enough of it alive in him to love the coming-together of it - and hey, if anywhere could use a little of Christ's goodwill these days, surely that place was Misty Hollow.

Focusing for a moment, Plas popped into costume (literally), and with a jaunty whistle pushed open the door to the party.
"Ho ho Hooooaww, man, we already have a Santa Claus?"
It was true. That Hopper guy [ @Chief Jim Hopper ] had turned up in full Kris Kringle regalia (which, Eel recalled with an embarrassed jolt, had apparently been the plan the whole time) and what's more he'd found himself a very cute Mrs. Claus [ @Byakuren Hijiri ] to play the part too!

"Well, I guess that leaves only one role for me - good news, Saint Nick, your Elastic Elf's made it to the party!"
And with that, Plas "popped" shape into something resembling that Elf on the Shelf thing he'd seen once, only hopefully less utterly terrifying - and, admittedly, in the wrong colours. He'd really have to figure out if there was a way to colour change as well as change shape...

Strolling over, he grinned at his two fellow volunteers. Sure, he didn't know either of them suuuuper well, but Plas had never let such trivial things as being a relative stranger to someone stop him from being friendly. Besides, eccentricity was fine at Christmas. It was fine.
"So how's the shindig been so far? Anything fun and/or outrageous happen in my absence?"

  19. Hopper readjusted himself. "Yeah, there's a lot to be done around this town. The world needs more things like dances and Christmas," he said to Byakuren.

Still the line to see Santa was empty. For a brief moment, Hopper saw a girl come towards them. Thinking Johnny had given him some help and sent her over, the chief discretely motioned with his head to Byakuren over to Lift. He was about to start his "ho ho ho" speech when he was cut off by someone else. Looked like their other volunteer had arrived...in a Santa suit. That wasn't the plan. Oh well, he was still a volunteer so that had to count for something.

"Er, yeah thanks," Hopper said, keeping a plastic smile on his face so he still appeared jolly to the kid that had wandered over. "Glad you could make it."

The guy's random changes were a bit disorienting to watch, so Hopper kept his eyes just off so it wouldn't mess with him. At least he was friendly enough. Compared to the brooding, antisocial characters he so often had to deal with, his cheer was welcomed.

"No, fortunately," Hopper replied. "Everything's all right in the North Pole. Isn't that right, Mrs. Claus?"

As he had so firmly decided, nothing would keep him from enjoying this evening with Wanda in Misty Hollow.

Except maybe shivering, scared kittens. To his... credit, he managed to make a good set of ten steps towards the stall with the beverages and food, trying very hard to ignore the desperate cries of two kittens stuck on a nearby rooftop. There were plenty of heros in this place, correct? And Misty Hollow had Guards and powered folks of its own, so he wasn't needed.

    Meow.

He had made a mental promise to himself. And he had also promised to be a more reliable partner in their relationship.

Meooow. Meooooow (followed by the distinct sound of rain drops and the accelerated beating of their tiny hearts).

Surely someone would rescue them before he did. Any minute now.

    Meooooow. Meoooow. Meooooooooow.

Rao help him. What if Marta had been in their place? Instinctively he looked at the door and seconds later he was gone. Outside, the rain and darkness had claimed the small town, adding to its gloomy element. He flew at the rooftop and managed to rescue the kittens; one was stuck in between the arms of a gargoyle while the other was trembling in a corner, unwilling to leave by its own. Superman took them both in his arms and searched for an area were they would be protected.

Some time later he re entered the church where the ball was held, but this time he was less presentable, what with his drenched clothes and water dripping from his hair. 'It's... uh.. raining outside..' he muttered to a few that glanced at him before they went back to enjoying themselves, as if it wasn't obvious enough.

He didn't have to search for @Wanda Maximoff to spot her amidst the crowd, talking to her fellow townspeople. He tried to do something about all the water he had brought in with him and in case she had noticed the idiot Russian alien who had left the party to help some cats, he mouthed an 'I'm sorry.'.
