Once again Bob looked at her like she was asking a stupid question, nodding at her as if to say, ‘of course you’re fucking crazy’. What kind of sane person pushed someone into traffic after saving them from the traffic only to then go and get them water and bring them round afterwards too? It was like she was on the borderline and couldn’t decide if she wanted to kill and enjoy it or felt guilty and probably shouldn’t.

The annoying thing was if It had all its powers It would know one way or the other, he would understand what was going on in her head and be able to manipulate her. Right now all he had was a few vague guesses based on what the evidence thus far was. Evidence thus far was she was crazy because she’d let a strange man into her apartment, she hadn’t called the cops on him, and she still wasn’t actually trying to get rid of him.

”It’s going to take more than you trying to kill me to bruise my ego.” he scoffed. It was a lie his ego had already taken enough dents and bruises over the last few days, hers had been the icing on the top. He’d thought he was untouchable, unstoppable, he’d thought he was more powerful than anything else in any known universe and here he fucking was. Sat on her sofa eating stale chips and bemoaning being beaten by witches and kids. He looked uncomfortable and shifted his weight, rummaged in a pocket and pulled out a sorry looking cigarette. He lit it up after a couple of false starts, without asking her if smoking inside was okay or not, and tried to change the subject.

”So what’s wrong with you in here?” he tapped the side of his head, cigarette waggling from the corner of his mouth and clearly didn’t care if the question was offensive or inappropriate, this was just information he would have glanced once by peering into her head. Now he had to fucking ask for it. It was humiliating but he wanted to know. ”Because you’re definitely fucked up, aren’t you?” he grinned at her.

He was trying to claim that she hadn't bruised his ego, but Emma wasn't buying it for a single second, and as her head tilted to the side and her brows perked up in question, it was clear as could be that she wasn't buying it. Emma was a lot of things, but she was far from an idiot. She was too smart for her own good. He had told her that once, and the thought of it could have sent a shiver down her spine, but she was so focused on Robert Gray here that none of that mattered. Maybe that was the one good thing about his presence here. Her mind was somewhere else. She had something else to focus on.

But he was still fucking crazy.

And bold, too, as he decided not only to light a cigarette without bothering to even ask her but to bluntly ask her what was wrong with her. In there, he'd added, tapping the side of his head and Emma shifted slightly where she stood, looking as though she were slowly growing more and more defensive, as though her walls were going up. Emma's walls never came down, though, and as he showed her that stupid toothy grin of his, Emma scrunched up her nose a bit and suddenly dropped one arm, the other gesturing aggressively toward the door.

"I think you've been here long enough. Get out."

The defensiveness was immediate, maybe because of the amount of denial she had. Or maybe because a part of her knew that he was right, that she'd ended up messed up as could be. The first thing she'd done when she'd come to Pandora was track down a gun just in case she needed it. And she looked at everybody and assumed the worst case scenario. Normal people didn't do that. There was once a time when she hadn't done that either. Or maybe she had, but not like this, not the way she did now.

He really didn’t give a shit what she wanted or what she thought was going to happen here, he didn’t care if he offended her or made her uncomfortable. Even as a human there was no mercy in Its heart, no room for guilt or understanding the human condition…at least not right now in this moment where he had discovered he had some power over her. The power to make her uncomfortable. The power to ask her whatever sick question popped into his head. She didn’t have to answer but her sudden defensiveness was enough to for It to know he was onto something there.

”Oooh touchy.” He cajoled her with a grin and swept forward, twisting on the sofa to hook an arm over the side of the couch and face in her direction a little more. He lounged there comfortably, cigarette dangling from the corner of his mouth and eyes fixed onto her, studying, judging. He didn’t think she’d been born that way, he didn’t think she was the kind of fucked up that came naturally like some people. He thought she seemed like the kind that got fucked up by the people she was exposed to, there were lots of people on different levels of fucked up because of someone else in their lives. Henry Bowers had been one of them. Oh he might have been a touch disturbed from the moment he was born but that father of his had done a real doozy on him. Same for Beverly. I worry about you Bevvie. Had someone worried about Psycho Girl too?

”Was it daddy?” Bob asked, probing for information, throwing things at her to see what would stick, ”You have some daddy issues going on there?” He snorted insensitively, ”Or maybe it was someone else, a high school boyfriend? Did you think you were in love and he fucked you over or maybe he just fucked your best friend?” He giggled impishly, ”Lots of that one going round. But no that’s not it either is it?” He narrowed his eyes at her and plucked the cigarette from his mouth and then scratched at his chin, leaving the cigarette to bob along between his knuckles. She wasn’t the average kind of screwed up in the head, someone had done a real good one on her. Someone like Henry Bowers father. Maybe someone worse. Maybe she really had met a monster once.

”C’mooon, tell me.” He wheedled, ”I wanna know what makes you tick, Psycho Girl.” Another demented grin as he totally ignored her request to leave and grinned at her expectantly once again.

She knew it wouldn't be as easy as telling him to leave. Nothing seemed to be easy with him. Hell, the only thing that had been easy was shoving him into the street and suddenly, she couldn't help but wish he hadn't miraculously managed to survive that. Suddenly, she couldn't help but wish he was dead. Then this wouldn't have been a topic of conversation at all. Maybe it was only fair. He'd shared his 'story' with her, or whatever the fuck that bullshit was supposed to be, but this was different. This wasn't bullshit, this wasn't something that may as well have been from some stupid fairytale or horror movie. This was her life flashing before her eyes a thousand times over, this was seeing so much blood, she'd kept forgetting that it wasn't her own.

He started taking guesses, and before now, Emma hadn't stood quite so still or quite so stiffly. She didn't look away, but there was a sort of dead look behind her eyes for a moment, but the longer he went on, the more angry she looked, the less patience she looked like she had. She remembered daddy. He'd been one of the good things. One of the normal things.

Suddenly, Emma was stepping forward, reaching out with her hand to grab for the arm he had hook over the side of the couch, viciously pulling him onto his feet no matter how clumsily it resulted in him doing it. Her eyes avoided his now if only because she could feel the topic of what was wrong with her, of what had happened, physically affecting her, and the last thing she could stand to do was let the waterworks start while he was standing there mocking her. He would've had a fucking field day with that.

Without warning, she was dragging him toward the door with every intention of throwing it open and mercilessly tossing him out into the corridor.

    "Get. Out."

She looked supremely pissed off, in fact she looked like he’d just whacked at several trauma buttons and he was now trying to work out which one it was that had done it. Maybe it was all of them, maybe she was just really unlucky and everything bad under the sun had happened to her one after the other, that would fuck someone up. What he didn’t expect was her to snap out of that anger and grab his arm off the side of the sofa. Her strength came as a surprise because she literally hauled him off the sofa in one go, or maybe it was this body’s weakness that surprised him. he was used to being immovable. The strongest thing not just in the room but on the whole fucking rock flying through space so to get yanked off a sofa by a tiny human girl, it was fucking ridiculous.

”Ow…jesus fuck lady-” He protested because one that actually hurt and he didn’t like hurty feelings and secondly she was not going about this in a way that said she minded about that, ”This thing is breakable-watch it.” He warned.

By the time he was on his feet she was physically trying to drag him towards the door. She got him four steps before he started to dig his heels in because like fuck he was going back out there. He turned and with his free hand started grabbing for anything he could all while she hauled him closer and closer to the door. He managed to grab a lamp, which immediately fell off the stand and was useless. He managed to knock the coffee table and its used take away packet and chips onto the floor, tried to grab for the end of the sofa and it rolled across the floor with him. He grasped for the wall and managed to hook the ends of his fingers around it. It stopped him dead about three feet away from the door and he made a triumphant snorting sound.

”Get- fuck – get off! He protested and twisted to look at where she was connected to his wrist. The skin was going red there and it hurt. He did not like that! What was that even about? Some poxy girl got hold of him and the fucking skin on this meat sack started ripping? ”Ow! Ow! That fucking hurts!” he pointed out like it genuinely surprised him and stared at her like he’d just been personally offended by this feeling.

He lifted a foot and tried to shove at her with it but it completely unbalanced him over backwards and he ended up bumping back into the wall and sliding down it into a heap on the floor. He was still clinging to the corner of the wall with one hand and now had one foot kicking out at Emma and the other wrist still in her grasp unless she’d let go.

”Fuck off.” He added in case he’d not been clear about his opinion on being kicked out before that statement. ”And give me my damn cigarette back, Psycho Girl.” He demanded because in the awkwardly comical backwards slide it had fallen out of his hand and was now smoldering on the floor a few feet away.

When Emma put her mind to something, she got it done. Or she tried to get it done, and usually she did a damn good job at it. Well, unless it involved escaping the clutches of a psychopath for months upon months. Emma was gonna have to mark that little escape attempt down as a miserable failure, but Driver was different. He was another monster entirely.

If anything, she swore she would never find herself in that situation again.

As she proceeded to drag Robert across the entire length of her apartment, she was astonished by his reaction, and not in a good way. He was aching and whining like he'd never been roughed up a little bit, and with the way he liked to fucking stare at his own blood and observe the cold of the rain on his skin, and all this other weird shit, Emma couldn't say she was surprised. But besides that, 'annoying' was the first word that came to mind.

"What the fuck, are you five?" With a roll of the eyes as he slid stubbornly onto the floor, one leg kicking out at her even as her arm clung to him in an attempted to drag him back to his feet, Emma eventually let go and whirled around to go collect his cigarette off of the floor, giving the dark smokey patch a couple of firm pats with her foot before turning back to him and holding the cigarette up to take a brief little drag from it herself, dark eyes fixed on him. It felt weird. She hadn't done it many times, but she'd done it. All things considered, it was probably a miracle she hadn't done it more.

"I'll give it back if you get the fuck out of my apartment," she told him firmly.

”I was ancient when humanity first crawled out of a cesspool! I watched your shitty little universe get puked up from the sick bowels of an old fool!” He snarled back at her because being accused of being a five year old was clearly the worst part of what was currently happening to him.

On some level he was aware of the utter ridiculousness of the situation, of being so incapable of being human that he couldn’t even find real food or shelter. His usual form of sustenance was out of the picture, fear did nothing for him anymore and he couldn’t even frighten petite blonde women so really what chance did he stand even if he could feed from that? He had found the rain fascinating at first but now it was cold and damp and he didn’t like it and he certainly did not want to go back outside again. He also did not want to ask for help. Asking for help from a human was pitiful and it was an admission of his own frail humanity. But he needed it. He needed her help.

She released his arm and he snatched it back to himself, cradling it against his chest like it was broken. The skin at his wrist was red and there was a firm Emma-sized handprint on it and he did not fucking like that one bit. She was damaging this fragile little body, she was marking it, it was…frightening to know someone had that power over him. Absently he rubbed at his wrist with his other hand and scowled up at her as she went to fetch the cigarette from where it had fallen.

”No.” he replied stubbornly, ”It’s raining and I’m cold! You get the fuck out!” As far as comebacks went it was not the grandest or most well thought out and even he pulled a face at how whiny and sad it sounded. Was this what he’d been brought to? Was this how low those fucking witches has brought him finally? It hated this feeling with every fibre of its very being. He watched her like a hunted animal in the sights of a gun, like a cornered rat that might leap at the terriers throat in a last ditch attempt to survive. Survive. That was important. He had to survive, to fix this, to get back to what he was. There had to be a way. In order to do that though he needed to survive he needed…allies. The thought of allying with a human sickened him to the pit of his stomach but this was his choice. Die because he didn’t know how to survive like this or do something and live to make those who did this pay.

”I don’t…” he started and made an unpleasantly gutteral hissing sound, like he was choking on getting the words out, ”I don’t…like it…outside.” he grumbled and glared at her balefully. ”I don’t…know how to…b-b-be human.” He pulled a snarling angry face like he was disgusted at himself for the admission, for the sheer weakness of his position, but there it was. He didn’t know how to do this. He wanted his revenge and if survival meant he had to beg for it then fuck. He’d rather beg today and live to kill off the witnesses tomorrow than die through sheer stubbornness.

She was losing her patience. No, she'd lost her patience a long time ago, he just didn't give a single shit and not even physically dragging him out of her apartment seemed to be working. Because he was basically a child. An overgrown, whiny child who was occasionally really fucking creepy. As he proceeded to tell her to get the fuck out of her own apartment, Emma let out an audible groan of frustration and rolled her eyes. She was nearly ready to pull out the gun she'd tucked into her waistband, maybe that would scare him enough. She might even fire it. Sure, it'd get her another visit from that cop, but nobody was actually gonna get hurt. It was fine.

Only, she hesitated because he started choking on his own words like they were physically painfully to speak. Her brows perked up and there was a faint upward twitch at the corners of her lips like she was getting some amusement out of this, but not even that was gonna make her let him stick around. "Lesson number one. Get a fucking umbrella," she said, snatching for his arm again to drag him up off the floor with all of her might and shoving her with everything she had through the open doorway and into the corridor.

"You're welcome," she added before slamming the door in her face, the only sound that followed the tell-tale sound of locks clasping.

    THE END
