    @The Governor
Groot is heading for the Wishing Wells :)

He couldn't exactly remember when, and therefore tell anyone, when he first heard of the wells. He couldn't tell you how he heard of the waters of miraculous powers that would come and grant a wish to the giver. He couldn't tell you why that thought stayed in his head when others were so easily pushed out. Groot got easily confused but occasionally demonstrated a fierce determination. This was usually because the results of his actions truly mattered, either to himself or someone he cared about. Otherwise information slid out of Groot's mind like the waters he seeks.

Groot was so determined about reaching the waters he even had a piece of paper, now a little scrumpled up, in his hand, just to remind himself what he was doing should he forget. The Wishing Waters were across dry dry land and it was very hot. Luckily for Groot temperature wasn't much of an obstacle for him. Related to the great fire trees, Groot occasionally liked a good burning, it made him feel tingly.

Being very small made this distance very formidable. When he saw the great expanse before him, wide open and filled with nothing he had the sudden urge to eat some twigs. So Groot doubled back and gathered as many twigs as he could so that he may gobble them up. He even ate a couple of leaves which was most unusual for him. He then set out, determined to reach the Wells as soon as possible, so he moved as fast as his little legs could carry him.

He prowled across the open desert, light and powdery sand shifting beneath his paws. His jaws were partly agape to keep him cool, the sun beating down on his striped back. It was a pleasant change to the icy gales of Cascade Bay and the snow clogged woods of Misty Hollow.

He’d been sent here by a witch to investigate the case of her missing servant. A couple days ago, the servant, a forty somethin’ old man, had ventured out here to gather ingredients at her boss’s request. She’d heard nothin’ from him. She wanted the Tigernor to help him back to her cottage alive or if they were too late to help, bring back evidence of his death.

Before he’d set off to the Arid Lands, she’d raised her gnarled hands and chanted the thick gray smoke of her cauldron into the image of her servant, enabling him to commit his appearance to memory. Philip was hunting a tall, wiry man in denim coveralls, the sleeves rolled up to expose his compactly muscular arms.

So far he’d seen no sign of him. No sign of anybody.

The Tigernor took that back when he spotted a small creature making its way through the pale sand, which caused him to jerk to a stop. What the hell? Someone carve a tiny troll outta a hunk of wood, then breathe life into those twisted limbs? He wanted to avoid the creature in case it wound up being a threat, but the murder of crows that’d been tailing him had other ideas.

“A twig!” cawed one of the birds. “A twig to line my nest!”

They flapped over to the little stick man, forming a floating circle and swiping at it with their sharp beaks and claws, their excited cries ringing out across the desert.

Groot was a very small creature. He was made of hundreds of intertwining twigs at the moment, but the bonds were forming, growing stronger so that he may grow big again. He stopped along the way to investigate the sand. It was hot, like everything else here and ran through his fingers and between the grooves of his wooden structure. His little legs worked hard to get him where he needed to go.

Groot was oblivious to the crows picking him out as food. He wouldn't make for very nice food, for he had no flesh to speak of, but perhaps they thought that lay beneath an intricate armour. They would find themselves disappointed in this, but not before they perhaps had damaged him. Groot was still young but he was a strong creature, stronger than one may expect from something so small.

Suddenly he heard a yell, that he was a twig and could line a nest! "I am Groot! - I am NOT a twig," he yelled and let out a little roar. The stopped, fierce, determined to defend himself. "I am Groot! - I am Groot! I didn't know crows could talk! Are you like Rocket?" he asked, wary, angry, curious.

    "Ice!"

A tiny girl's voice called out from not far off. Arle had been using some desert brush for shade and cover when a bunch of squawking crows disturbed her nap. Stepping out and challenging the scene without much hesitation, a circle of magic conjuring formed about her feet in the sand. From it, four dangerously sharp icicles formed and hovered in the air around her. They then abruptly launched toward Groot, each of them aimed to miss--but not by much. She was just kind of blindly throwing them into the midst of the crows. She wasn't really expecting to score a direct hit, but icicles of those size would likely prove quite deadly if she did. Her main goal was just to let the crows know she was there, to make them reconsider careless attacks. ...To scatter them.

"Go! Away! Trees are friends!" Arle shouted confrontationally. The little five-year-old was apparently here to rescue Groot. ...Perhaps not the most heroic rescue team. What even brought her out here in the burning desert?

Huh. The stick man could talk.

Things got even stranger when a little girl, couldn’t’ve been more than five or six, emerged and performed some kinda magic spell, a set of jagged icicles flyin’ through the hot air toward the crows. They shrieked in alarm, abandoning their plans and flapping away from the stick man.

“Insolent child!” the ringleader of the crows hissed and clucked at the little girl as they made their noisy screeching way back over to him. Damn. “You’ll show us more respect or we’ll send this monster over there to teach you a lesson!”

    They meant him, right?

The Tigernor huffed out an exasperated sigh, folding his hind legs up beneath his large body. He lay his chin on one of his front paws, tryin’ to show he had no intention of obeying the damn birds and going after the little girl, or even the stick man. That wasn’t gonna help him regain his human form. Not to mention, he had no interest in messing with people who had those kindsa skill sets. That always ended badly… And messily.

Groot was fully prepared to fight these crows to the death! He might be small but he had extendable limbs! Yeah! You heart right! Extendable limbs! Just because he was small, and a tree, did not mean he didn't have some unusual abilities. Groot could stretch his arms out and out and out so faaaaaar. And he could do it with his legs too, but it was harder with those and he was a bit too young and small still for that to be considered a reasonable measure. He'd probably fall over at this point in time. His vines were still more on the unravelled slender side than fully solid as they were before.

His unexpected rescuer came in the form of a little girl in a dress casting magic! She was casting ice magic which Groot thought was so cool! He stared at her, in awe, as the shards hurtled towards the crows. He toddled over to one of the shards and prodded at it. "I am Groot- that's sharp!" he commented to himself.

The crows were then saying that they were going to send over a monster! Where?! Groot looked around to see a huge orange and black thing with a large large head lying on the compacted sand. Huh? He didn't look very interested in being monster like. He was large and soft and furry looking. He looked like his fur was softer than Rocket's! This was very interesting. Instantly forgetting that the crows had threatened him and that there was a small mortal defending him, Groot made his way over and tried to climb up the tiger's side.
