It had only been two weeks since he had arrived in Pandora, but Greed had quicky made himself at home in the new world. He got himself some new men, got himself a legitimate job to cover for his shady underworld operations and had already made enough money to get himself an upper class house in the coastal town of Cascade Bay. Life was good at the moment, even if he still found himself thinking back to the possessions he had left behind in Amestris, he at least was on his way to regaining everything that was taken away from him. Once that was done, though, it was time to go beyond and make sure that the entirety of Pandora would know his name.

Greed had made himself a new Devil's Nest and was spending his time there working as a bartender even if he didn't really need to. Most of the people who frequented the place were also his henchmen, which made keeping a steady number of customers very easy. Often some newbies would show up visiting the place in curiosity and many ended up getting pulled into Greed's world, but for now, he was just enjoying the company of his newest possessions.

"Really? You can do that with magic, just like that? No equivalent exchange or anything? That's pretty wild." He chuckled as he talked to one of his men, an amateur wizard he had gotten off the streets.

If there was one thing that he liked about Pandora, it was all the different people that lived in there. Stuff like werewolves he was somewhat expecting to be around since there were already chimeras in Amestris, so it was just a natural progression, but here there were things like wizards and magic from medieval times, but also ridiculously advanced technology from the future, all in the same place. People had such varied backstories in this world that he never knew what to expect from each new person he met.

And yet a lot of these people, due to how unforgiving Pandora could be in how it just randomly dropped you into a new world to fend for yourself, had nowhere to go and were left to rot in the streets. It was such a waste of talent, really. Greed was doing them a favor by taking them as his possessions and he knew they wouldn't be leaving him anytime soon, after all, where else would they go to considering how harsh life in Pandora had been to them so far? It wasn't like he was treating badly, he liked to keep his possessions in good condition after all.

"Hey, Greed! Pour me another glass!" One the men at the counter yelled out.

"Another? That's the fifth one already, man. You better have good alcohol tolerance because I'm not carrying your ass back home when you get wasted." Greed joked, a smirk forming in his lips as he went to grab a bottle of whisky.

The men (and women) in the bar seemed to be enjoying themselves in the dim lightning around them. Greed could hear the sound of laughs and people endlessly chatting to the point it had became background noise for him already. Luckily these people were also smart enough to not make a big mess or start any fights, the pub was one of Greed's possessions as well and he sure wasn't gonna let anyone just break stuff in it for no good reason. As long as they behaved, they were free to enjoy the place as they saw fit.

Eleanor had one thing in mind right now. She wanted to know how, why, and most importantly who—or what—had brought her to this town.

Teleportation was one thing—one thing she was already quite used to, in fact—but finding herself on an entirely different place in the surface without no clear machine allowing such a thing was an entirely different matter.

The distant chirping of birds drove home the point that this really was the surface. So, where was this? The dock and the buildings present in the town pointed to a lot possibilities... Greece? Norway? Maybe even somewhere in the East? It was hard to tell. Everything Eleanor knew about those places came from a more than likely outdated atlas and overhearing other people describing what they looked like.

Incidentally, that sounded like a good course of action. Interacting with other people was not only useful in the most basic of senses but listening to people that weren't horribly mutated or trying to use Eleanor for their own gain seemed like a good chance of pace.

And what other place would have more talkative people than a pub?

Eleanor opened the main door and stood there, soaking the floor with the saltwater dripping from her suit and the helmet she carried on her hand.

These were people. Actual breathing people form the surface. The parasites Ryan used to warn his citizens about so much.

It was hard not to fight the more than obviously unfounded instinct to run away or fight back but there was no danger here. Just several strangers, a girl, and her weak social skills.

"Greetings. What is this place?" she managed to say out loud, to no one in particular.

The door opened and in came a very unusual girl. The most striking things about her were her clothes, which was pretty clearly a very old divers outfit, given the helmet she was carrying with her; plus the fact that she was really tall. Hell, she was probably taller than Greed himself. He knew he wasn't the biggest guy around, but girls weren't usually supposed to get that tall.

The eyes of pretty much everyone in the pub were on her when she came in and asked her very vague question. Some of the people there were snickering, others were plain confused and others quickly lost interest on her. Greed himself couldn't help but chuckle a little once the girl asked her question and since nobody seemed interested in answering, he figured he could do that himself.

"This is the Devil's Nest. There should have been a sign above the door if you missed it." Greed pointed up as he talked to reinforce what he was saying, even though they were both inside. He was that she was curious about more than just the pub, but he couldn't just let the opportunity slip by. "Let me guess, you just arrived in this world?"

Despite being fairly new to Pandora himself, Greed had already met a few other newcomers who were all confused about where they were, some more than others due to the culture shock that often came with it. Those were usually the easiest people to get over to his side, so this girl seemed like an easy person to win over as long as his henchmen didn't mess anything up. Fortunately it looked like they were going to let him handle the situation.

A muscular man answered Eleanor's question. Although he decided to miss the point to make a joke. He helpfully explained the pub already had a sign with its name on it, "Devil's Nest". Not something that would feel out of place in Rapture. Apparently the surface also had an obsession with naming their establishments after mythological and religious concepts.

The man was obviously right in assuming Eleanor was a newcomer but why did he man imply his pub was another world? Regardless, he was apparently the only one willing to answer Eleanor's questions so she decided to continue the conversation, but not before demonstrating what kind of person he was dealing with. A loud shriek started to sound right where Eleanor was standing and she disappeared in a purple mist... only to reappear behind the counter near where Greed was.

"You are clever. What is this world?"

The sudden shriek had startled more than a few people, some of the people in the bar straight up jumped out of their seats and the little display had everyone looking at the girl again. Greed, however, was more bothered by the noise than outright startled by it. The reaction of everyone else did make him give quite a hearty laugh though and once he saw Eleanor standing by his side, he didn't seem to be fazed in the slightest by it.

"You know, usually when people want to speak with the bartender they do it on their side of the counter." He further joked, then gave a little shrug. "Anyway, this is Pandora. Us and everyone else in this building," He spread his arms to draw attention to the people the girl had just scared the shit out of. "have been brought to this place for some reason or another. Here you can find anything, from real wizards, to vampires, werewolves... Anything you can think of and more. It's pretty great."

Whoever that girl was, she clearly had some special abilities of her own and that outfit by itself told Greed that he was dealing with someone unique. Recent arrivals were usually easy to get on his side, since they were all aimless and most of the time without anywhere to go, and he sure wouldn't be opposed to this girl joining him even if her teleportation was noisy.

"So, where did you come from? The ocean?" He chuckled.

The bartender wasn't surprised about Eleanor's ability and cracked a joke about not usually conducting conversations with people that were on his side of the counter.

"You appear to be an open-minded individual."

At least Eleanor got a straight answer this time. This world was called Pandora. Named just like the first woman, according to the Greeks. The one that had doomed humanity to a mortal and painful existence. Clearly, the mythological motif was alive and kicking.

And apparently this place housed all sort of special individuals that most would consider fairy tales. It seemed to be mostly creatures that people wrote stories off to justify their fear of the dark. Eleanor decided to keep that in mind since there were all sorts of possible explanations for what Greed had just described.

Speaking of, Greed proceeded to speculate about Eleanor's background. He was right about her coming from the ocean—even if it seemed like a joke from his part—but to be fair, her clothes were a dead giveaway.

"Yes, this is my first day walking on the surface. I'm quite enjoying it so far." she gave a faint smile.

"You can only deny reality for so long before you're forced to face it."

And then it turned out that the girl really did come from the ocean. Was there like, an underwater civilization where she lived? If so, that was pretty impressive and Greed had to wonder how it must have been to live underwater... Though at the same time you would probably get tired of being surrounded of water the entire time. He knew he would at least.

Interestingly it looked like the girl had never been out of the water before. Was there entire world flooded or something? Or were they just unable to go back to the surface for some reason? It was always interesting to meet new people in Pandora because he always found himself trying to fill the blanks in their backgrounds that they didn't tell him.

"So you never left the ocean before? How old are you to begin with? You look young, but you're also really tall, especially for a girl."

"A man decided to prove a point by building his utopia at the bottom of the ocean. His rival got him killed and Mother replaced him as the city's new tyrant. I solved that problem."

It had happened just a few hours ago at the most—it was hard to tell—and Eleanor couldn't hide her happiness over having won her freedom in the end.

Although she never expected to hear a comment about her height. She did look gauntly and too pale even when taking into account her Sun-less past but she never felt being too tall was an issue, or something particularly noteworthy.

"I am sixteen years old. Mother was tall, Father as well. I suppose it runs in the family."

It wasn't necessary to blame genetic splicing for it at the moment. If Greed wanted to know more, he would have share some information of his own.

    "What do you call yourself?"

Well that sure wasn't what Greed had guessed. Making an entire underwater city to be your own little utopia? He could respect that level of ambition, not so much the fact that he got killed by a rival that easily. Stil, building an utopia didn't seem like all that bad of an idea.

This girl sure sounded happy about being on the surface, never had Greed heard someone be so happy about the fact they killed their own mother. It was funny in a morbid way, but apparently the girl's height came from the mother. He had to wonder if she was going to get even taller than that as she aged or if she had hit her peak already.

"16? Wow, that's pretty young." Greed said with a tone that betrayed the surprise in his words.

Then she began asking him more questions. It was all an exchange of personal information, just another typical case of equivalent exchange.

"Call me Richard. I'm the owner of this place. Say, since you're new here, do you need someone to show you around?" He asked with a friendly smile on his face showing his sharp, shark-like teeth.

At that, there was some whispering as the people gathered what was going on between the two, nothing that would be easily heard though and the multiple voices did a good job at drowning each other out, except for one.

"Hey, what about my drink?" The same man from before called out.

And with that, Greed just snapped his fingers to get the attention of another bartender who worked there and pointed to the direction of the voice. The other bartender, who had also been a little distracted by the ongoing conversation, quickly went to answer the customer's demands.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Richard."

He seemed to run a tight ship, making sure his employees didn't get distracted while on the job and keeping his costumers happy. He even had a smile one could completely trust in. Eleanor assumed sharpening teeth was some kind of surface fashion she didn't exactly understand.

And it was true, she did need someone to show her the place around.

"Please. Can I get something to drink, too?"

"Thirsty huh? I guess saltwater is not the most refreshing thing to drink." He joked, chuckling as he turned around to look at the selection of drinks he had available, stroking his chin as he thought of which one would be better for a girl like her to try. "Anything in mind? Most of the stuff here is alcohol and though you can legally drink here, I'm not sure if alcohol is the best thing for you to drink right off the bat." He slightly turned his head to better face her as he spoke.

That girl probably didn't have any money on her considering she had just arrived, but he was willing to let it slide since it suited his purposes. Plus he could just make her pay him back later, it wasn't like the stuff he was selling was that expensive anyway, unless she really wanted to try out the fancy alcohols.

"By the way, since I don't really need to be here all the time, I can show you around if you want."

"I think I am old enough to choose what I want."

People up here had rules and regulations. Ryan claimed they were used to steal money away from hard-working people but that remained to be seen. Still, it was quite puzzling to drive away potential clientele with such strange rules. Eleanor wouldn't feel any less capable of using her judgement with 365 days less of experience under her belt.

    "A soda would be good."

But yes, alcohol wasn't a smart choice. It was a depressant drug and not the best thing to drink after such a long day. Now, caffeine, that was another story.

Speaking of good ideas, Richard offered to show Eleanor the town. That was very kind of him. Maybe too much.

    "Lead the way."

That comment was a little out of nowhere, but Greed just shrugged it off and grabbed a soda for the girl and one for himself. He figured he might as well get himself a drink if he was gonna be walking around with that girl and telling her about the town, just to keep himself refreshed all the way.

"Since you just got here, you probably don't have any of the currency from here and can't pay, but I'll let you pay later once you have the money." He smirked as he handed her one of the sodas.

He then leapt over the counter where there was a room for him to do so without breaking anything in the process, then looked back her over his shoulder.

"By the way, you haven't told me your name yet."

The chat eventually had Richard bringing up Eleanor's lack of money once he handed her a soda. Well, some stereotypes were true for a reason. At least he was willing to let it go for now and ask her to pay for it whenever she could. That was a strange thought, she would have to actually get money from somewhere from now on... or would she?

Richard seemed amicable but not everyone else would be as understanding. She hadn't fought her way out of Rapture just to die on the surface because she didn't have enough money to buy food. And stealing would just be useful in the short term, Eleanor wasn't planning on living away from civilization for the rest of her life—as much as she enjoyed the idea of visiting the woods.

"You use banknotes, correct?" she drank her soda.

The taste was much sweeter than expected. Whatever factory it had come from certainly knew what it was doing. Up until this point, Eleanor hadn't yet realized the food was completely different in this place. That was something to look forward too.

"My name is Eleanor Lamb." It felt nice uttering her name knowing no one was thinking of Mother. Being a newcomer had its benefits.

As they kept talking, Greed led Eleanor, as she had introduced herself, outside and opened his soda can before starting to drink from it. Her mention of something called banknotes making him raise an eyebrow, was that what they called money back underwater? That sure sounded weird.

"Is that what you call the money in your world? Here we have pounds."

That said, it was time to start the tour. It was still sunny outside, but also rather windy, as to be expected from a town near the ocean, plus the fact that it was autumn. It all resulted in a pretty pleasant weather that made having to go walking around town that much less bothersome.

"Well, anyway, this is Cascade Bay. There's not all that much here honestly, it's a pretty small place. There's some shops, a resort, a nice little bookstore and most important of all, the beach. That's probably the reason most people live here, including me. Have you been to the beach before you went to my pub? "

"Banknotes is precisely what you use." Eleanor corrected Richard. It was hard not to smile at his confusion.

In hindsight, using the term "paper money" would have worked better to get her point across. She still got her answer either way, and it was good to know that this place used pounds. Just like England.

Once outside, Richard described the place which was called Cascade Bay. A small coastal town with not much to offer aside from badic facilities and a beach.

A place Eleanor had never considered visiting. Ironic for someone that lived her whole life near water.

"No... I did not think there would be anyone in there. I wanted to talk to people."

That didn't really explain to him what banknotes were, but at this point Greed decided to just shrug and go along with what she was saying. The basic message behind what he had said seemed to have been understood anyway so there was no point in talking about it.

More importantly, she didn't go to the beach because she thought there wouldn't be anyone there. Really showed how much she didn't know about "surface culture" if she thought nobody would be there in such a sunny day.

"Yeah, as long as it's sunny you're gonna find someone at the beach. Surfers doing their thing, people sunbathing, kids making sand castles, people playing volleyball, there's plenty of stuff to do there." He pulled his shades from his pockets and put them on before looking up slightly at the direction of the sunlight. "Today's looking like a pretty good day to go to the beach actually, you're not really dressed up for it, but it might do you some good. Your skin is pretty damn pale from living underwater all that time."

He had to wonder if everyone in her city was pale like that, it wasn't something he would consider attractive. Eleanor was so pale that if she tried she could probably camouflage herself in the snow, a thought that did vaguely amuse him a little.

Eleanor was visibly shocked when Richard started listing what people did in beaches. She knew the surface had things she had never seen with her own eyes, like the Sun or the stars, but these new concepts were especially boggled her mind.

"I have no idea what those things are."

Apparently, her clothes were not suited for the beach. She needed to get changed, no doubt about it—dried blood wasn't fashionable this season—but what was wrong with her suit?

"I am just wearing this out of necessity but I cannot see what is wrong with using it near water. That's what it was designed for."

Eleanor didn't exactly like her appearance and lowered her expression after hearing Richard's comment about her pale skin.

"I couldn't exactly choose where to live."

She had no clue what absolutely any of the things he said were, that wasn't entirely surprising but really, a sand castle was pretty self-explanatory. She didn't understand why her outfit wasn't suited for hanging out at the beach which... he figured would be better showing than telling.

Greed's comment about her skin struck home though, her mood seemed to go down significantly after that comment. So she didn't think it looked good on her either, huh? Well, that was easy enough to fix.

"Well, now you can." He stated bluntly, looking at her with a carefree smile on his face and taking off his shades for the moment. "Everything you do here in Pandora, it's all gonna be your choice. Where you live, where you work, who you hang out with, what you do with your free time, all that is up to you now."

He then gave Eleanor a friendly pat on the back before taking off ahead of her a little, towards the beach. He put his shades back on and looked at her from over his shoulder.

"Anyway, first stop of the tour: the beach. No point in explaining when I can just show everything to you."

Richard's perspective on life was actually very positive. He pointed out Eleanor was free to do as she pleased now which the teenager was more than happy about.

"It is good to see Father didn't sacrifice himself for nothing."

And then Richard patted her in the back which left her visibly confused. It was strange... but reassuring at the same time.

He put on sunglasses and started leading the 'tour', wanting to start with the beach. It almost seemed like he had done this before.

"Richard, for how long have you been in Pandora?"
