Orphanages. They were absolutely, all wretched places. Maybe it was a bit of a harsh thought when they had barely spent any time there, but it was their own opinion. And Chara was certainly not afraid to express it.

And that’s why they were currently milling down River Street, watching petals gently waft through the breeze, twirling and twisting as it made its way down. Step by step, they were walking past River Street’s namesake. The sun’s warm rays were a welcoming feeling compared to winter’s cold flakes. But they barely paid attention to such. No, their focus was upon inspecting various overhanging balconies that lined River Street, of “Arlington House Apartments.” Out of their league, even a few months down, when they finally turned sixteen, they very much doubted they’d be able to afford anything above a studio apartment: which once again limited their choices to either Blackhaven or back to Tavoie Borough. Neither of those choices appealed to them very much… but it was better than going to that Shelter they had heard of when September finally rolled about. Already, they couldn’t leave “Pandora’s Home for Wayward Orphans.” Even its name made them snort out loud. No, they just needed to plan ahead; step one, get a job of some kind. Step two was to leave that home as soon as their birthday rolled around. And then… get an apartment, and keep on living life.

It was strange, thinking ahead like that. Planning for a future here. Trying to decide what would be their next step, and trying to do what they can to prepare. For the first few months they had been here, they had held hope that same force that had dragged them to this place would be able to drag them back to their home. To their family. To their Underground realm where they had left behind so many monsters, to live in that darkness, while Chara was now essentially free to do whatever they pleased in this world. It wasn’t fair. But when had their world ever made itself to be fair? No, at most times, it seemed more than content to rock everyone’s boat even more, leaving things unsettled in its wake. But that just meant that someone would have to roll with it, and pick up the pieces that were left. That wasn’t to say they didn’t think of Asriel or their parents daily: but focusing on it wouldn’t help. Focusing on everything from their past… it was easier just to push it all away, and focus. No, the past two months had been spent formulating a plan: the best thing to do in this span of time.

And that was the only thing to be done. A sigh escaped their mouth as they breathed out hard, now turning to lean upon a black, smooth railing that kept people from falling straight into the water below, looking down upon the sides of the river, where patches of grass ran rampant with dandelions fleshy bloomed. So if these apartments were off their list of things to see, perhaps it was time to head to Blackhaven and take a look around there. Not their top choice by far… but Chara knew they couldn’t be that picky, especially if they were unable to work up enough money between when school let out and September for a studio in Tavoie Borough. Though one possibility did enter their head briefly: moving straight out of Pandora Town. A whole new possibility… but for now, they were going to focus on within this town, without branching out just yet.

And at the moment, simply enjoying the peaceful nature of the river would be enough for them.

  2. Swain often walked the streets of Pandora Town. It was good for the people to see a PTDF General appear to care for the town despite being such a newcomer. It also allowed him to keep an eye of the various comings and goings of the inhabitants of the town. This was not borne of any sort of interest in their meagre lives, instead it was simply a desire to stay informed. Today was no exception. He walked slowly through the streets, carefully keeping an eye on the various proceedings. It mattered little, though. The Ravens would keep an eye on anything or anyone noteworthy.

Swain's wanderings ended with him standing next to the river's edge, but it was not long before his attentions were pulled somewhere else. A Raven, seemingly at random, swooped down from the eaves of a nearby building and landed upon his shoulder. Swain rasied an eyebrow. It was not usual for one to approach so boldly. Normally the secrets they found were whispered in private. The fewer that knew the connection, the better. The bird leant inwards, whispering into his ear. Interesting. Apparantly, they had found someone worth interacting with, though he suspected that it was not that they posed any sort of threat, rather that they were worth making note of. "Keep an eye on them." He said to it sternly. "Multiple." The bird took off, commands received. He cast one last glance at the river bellow and went to follow them.

A little further down River Street, several Ravens began roosting around where a child walked. Not enough to be worrying, but enough to be noticeable. Several landed close by, seeming taking great interest in the child, actively landing infront of them. Swain now approached, wondering how they would react, and why the birds were so interested in them...

Pandora Town held an awe-inspiring number of sights, and even after a solid day spent sightseeing, it felt as if every corner she turned around heralded something new. As easy, and as enjoyable, as it was to get thoroughly lost, being just another face waddling along unfamiliar streets, the river provided a convenient landmark to follow, to return to, and to sit alongside when things got a little too busy for her liking. When she couldn't decide where to go next, such as now, she adopted another tactic; follow someone else. Most of the time, this saw her awkwardly standing outside some shop or other, as the person she'd followed was less interested in sight-seeing and more interested in going about their business.

So when presented with the choice between following the shopper, who had become increasingly concerned over the course of the last twenty minutes that some strange yellow monster was following after her, or following the tall man who was talking to birds. It raised a lot of questions. Questions like 'did the birds talk back?' and 'is it just those birds he talks to or is it any type of bird?' and 'why is he talking to birds?'. As wonderful as this place was, the rules of it were very confusing indeed.

Alphys, in an attempt to look nonchalant, and certainly not as if she was following the strange man, took out her phone and half-heartedly started to tap away at it as she walked after Jericho, keeping a respectful distance behind him. It would be plainly obvious to just about anyone that she was tailing him, as her idea of being subtle left a lot to be desired, but she was determined to keep up the facade for as long as she could.

  4. Swain was now being followed. It did not take a genius to catch on to the poor atempts at subtlty the orange creature was displaying. As if on que, one of his birds alighted on his shoulder once more, but he waved it off, already knowing what it would report. "It seems," He said to himself, "That I am quite the interesting character..." He stopped walking. The other person could wait a moment. The Ravens would keep him informed of their movements. He could afford to address this now. Without turning around, he spoke to the one following him "I do hope you are not in the business of espionage. You are doing quite poorly at it. If you wish to ask something of me, go ahead. Be warned though, I do not suffer fools lightly." He tapped his foot a moment. Swain was a patient man, but it would suit him to give the opposite impression here. After waiting a moment, he turned around, coat flapping ever-so-slightly to reveal his Demonic hand tucked behind his back for a split second. "What is it?" He said.

A few moments of peace was just what they needed, honestly. A pleasant feeling had spread through them as they stared down at the flowing river, feeling a bit more well. The drive to keep going was strong though and had only been strengthened by their small time here. Giving the river one last grin, they turned their red gaze to the small path they had taken to walking on. Almost immediately, they paused in their strides, steps coming to a stop as their curious gaze now lay upon the things before them, blocking them from proceeding further. Black birds. Huh. Maybe the apartment search could hold on for one second as they investigate this matter.

For a moment, they frowned, tilting their head as they looked over the black birds. Seems like several of them had gathered around here out of nowhere. That was strange to say the least. Sure, Chara had spotted a few birds here and there in Pandora Town. But most of them stayed out of any one person’s way. They never got this close to a human being, or at least from what Chara saw. Not that they blamed the birds for that. If they could, they would do that also. Leaning down slightly in order to get a closer look, they carefully regarded the birds. Black feathers, large....

Well, Chara was no bird expect, having been raised the majority of their life in a place without an open sky, but they could gather that this was either a murder of crows or an unkindness of ravens. The only reason those group names stuck out to them was the nature of the word associated. Murder and unkind. What a thing to call dark-feathered birds. That was besides the point though. It was a crow or a raven. If their memory served them right from days pouring over small books, this was a raven.

“And what are you doing here?” They muttered slightly, straightening up from the birds’ level to instead peer down at them. This did them not good standing here, though the curiosity kept them lingering a few moments longer. It wasn’t like the birds would be able to speak back to them after all. If nothing else happened, they’d be on their way again, ready to set off and do the job they had to.

It was difficult to keep up the illusion that you weren't following someone, especially when the person you were tailing mused aloud about how bad you were at it, let alone when the person of interest actually turns around to confront you. Alphys came to a halt a short distance away from the bird whisperer, tapped a few buttons on her phone, and then looked back to Jericho, her face a picture of nervous curiosity.

"I'm, um, a-actually I wasn't sure where to go. So following you seemed like a g-good idea. Like, you'd go somewhere interesting, an-and once we got there, I'd find something else interesting and follow that," it probably would've been better, Alphys considered, to come up with a much more interesting sounding lie, "I c-can stop following you. If you'd like. But a human that talks to birds, that is interesting, s-so it sort of stood to reason that you'd go somewhere interesting too."
