"Hirschberg...? Hirsch, you're gonna have to come out for a few minutes, uh...there's something I gotta tell you..."

Gerold mumbled a few unintelligible words as he made himself wake up, only to see what might either be some quiet random guy or an ironically shy 'Savior' standing at the edge of the dorm, moving themselves around nervously from one foot to the other. On a day like today, he might very well be both.

    "Yeah? What?"

    "...Your pal's gone."

    "Shut up."

He was on his feet in exactly five seconds, and would have almost smacked the little shit for lying if he hadn't started to whimper and sob.

    "I'm serious, Mister...h-he v-v-vanished last night, and..."

"...No talking. Please. Just...just show me where..."

    One Hour Later

The little cluster of lonely fellows he'd managed to gather up wasn't exactly going the sackcloth and ashes route, but they wouldn't be happy for a while, either. What was happening right now was a silent type of mourning, beginning with burning some of the letters he'd both sent to and received from Smitts. This got followed close behind by casting a few pieces of matzah into the fire, and finally, a splash of moonshine poured out onto the ground so that nobody would accidentally burn the whole mountain down.

After all that, there was very little else to do but pass the jug around in silence, not really putting pressure on anybody else to speak, but also thinking over some words in advance so that the wrong things wouldn't be said.

It was at this point that one of the boys heard someone else coming over to join them, and quickly nudged Hirschberg to make sure he paid attention.

Morhall was an odd place, appearing dark and frightening on first appearance yet now Roy had been there several months (even stepping up to take on a leadership role) he had once again learned that first impressions can be misleading. The underground network was actually hauntingly beautiful and warm, it felt safe, protected compared to the outside world. Then there was the little community of people who actually lived there, all fascinating people with no one from entirely the same background and all well knit together in a way that only people who had suffered together could be.

It was proven that day as he heard about the vanishing of one of their community and upon setting out to find out what he could as well as to offer his support to those who remained he found himself seeing how the community pulled together through tough times. He kept to the shadows watching quietly as the small group appeared to mourn their now gone friend with a jug of some drink and a fire. For a moment he considered leaving suddenly not wanting to intrude on what appeared to be an intimate moment but he knew he could not just walk away. These were men and women he helped to lead, he had to show he was with them, that he cared and supported them.

He needed to continue to prove himself to them, so drawing a breath he set his face into the smooth look he was well known for and casually emerged from the shadows, strolling to join the group as his new long, blue jacket billowed out behind him like a cloak. Noting their eyes turning to fix on him he spoke in greeting "Gentlemen... Lady.." His dark eyes meeting their gazes before flicking towards the flames as he went on politely"May I join you in paying respects to our now gone comrade and member of this community?" As he finished speaking his gaze settled on the man the others appeared to be looking to at his question, A man he was fairly certain was called Gerold.

“Here comes the government,” the lone woman among them muttered cautiously, giving Mustang a cautious side-eye that Hirschberg wasn't about to ignore so quickly. Maybe uniformed officials in general just freaked her out, or perhaps she hadn't really expected anyone else to come along. Either way, Gerold felt as though he was right there with her...and not just because he barely heard the new guy join them, or begin to speak for that matter.

Please,” he half-invited, stepping aside just a little to let this one into their crowd. Right before a cold feeling started to attack him from the outside, and then started making him feel sick on the inside.

He really should have insisted on building an infirmary.

Did they even have one of those to start with? Or had they somehow lost the chance to make one when the vast majority of potential settlers kept on disappearing?

Would he be the next to disappear…?
