August (whatever the first day of the cruise is Octi was too lazy to look it up for me i'll edit this later)
    tag: @Alec Lightwood

It figured that the walk to their room would take the longest amount of time - room #11507 ended up being the last in the row of suites, but after opening the door when they first arrived and dumping everything in his arms immediately off to the side, he knew it was worth the walk. The suite - not the most expensive of options but close to it - was spacious, with more than enough room for the two of them to share during this little vacation. He was glad to see it was worth the money he spent on keeping things a little more lavish.

This was, after all, the first real vacation Alexander Lightwood had ever been on, or so he told Magnus after the warlock brought up the idea that the pair of them should get tickets. Magnus wasn't entirely sure that Alec would agree to go, but in the end they both decided that a little time away from everything would do them good. Things between the two of them were actually recovering steadily from the patchy moments at the start of the summer, but then with Clary's death the levels of tension and stress in general were rising high again. It wasn't something easy to deal with, especially in a place like Pandora where everything still felt a bit too surreal to begin with.

A little time with no jobs, no obligations, just free time and a bit of relaxation would hopefully do both of them a world of good.

Now they were coming back from the first dinner on the ship, and Magnus wasn't sure about Alec but he was starting to realize a bit too belatedly that he'd abused the bar just a little over the course of the meal. "So, how are you enjoying your first cruise so far?" Magnus asked, unlocking their door and holding it open for Alec to walk through first before following in behind him.

The idea of a vacation was a little foreign to Alec. He’d gone places outside New York, sure, but it’d always been because of something for the Institute – and sure, he’d gone to places with Magnus, but never a full week. It was.... actually it was amazing and it was only the first day. At first he’d been a little leary of the idea – being on a boat for seven days? What about demons? What would happen if he wasn’t out on patrol? But they’d been through a lot lately and it hadn’t taken much to convince him that a break would be nice.

And so far it was – they’d had a nice dinner, followed up by the bar. Alec had never been much of a drinker and it’d taken him forever to get used to the taste of alcohol, but he certainly didn’t mind a glass of wine or two. Or even something fruity. He might have had a couple something fruties, actually.

The combination of drinks and the movement of the ship had Alec swaying down the hallway just a bit, one hand trailing against the wall just in case he lost his balance. He grinned at Magnus as he passed him, expression soft, cheeks rosy. Things had been rocky in the beginning, when they were still trying to figure things out – when Alec realized that he felt things that Magnus wasn’t feeling (well, Magnus had told him so it wasn’t even a realization so much as a finding out) but it’d gotten better. And maybe sometimes Alec couldn’t control the look on his face, or he had to swallow the urge to say the words to Magnus, but it was alright. They were....working toward it, he supposed.

“It’s amazing, Magnus,” he said, the smile on his face widening. He was glad he’d decided to come.

Magnus noticed that there was a bit of a sway to Alec's steps but he didn't think much of it - after all, he had more than a few drinks at and after dinner, and they were on a boat, so there was a bit of a sway to everyone's steps, right? Nothing to worry about as long as they were both still standing upright, after all.

The smile on Alec's face meant everything to the warlock, who shut the door behind them now that they were in the room. "Good." he said, returning that wide grin with one of his own. "You deserve it." He meant that. Alec worked so hard, and he knew that even now on the ship he spent half his time worrying about what might be going on back at his work, and Magnus knew that he'd never voluntarily take a break unless he was coerced into it.

He walked over toward the balcony on the opposite end of the room - it was a small space outside the room but it provided a beautiful view of the ocean, reflecting the stars from the sky above in the water below them. The cool air felt extra refreshing against his slightly flushed cheeks. "It's gorgeous." Magnus observed. "You know, sometimes I get so used to portalling from place to place, you forget that the journey can be just as beautiful as the destination."

His smile widened at Magnus’ reply, hazel gaze trained on his face.

Alec trailed after him, his gaze flicking toward the open sea, dark and expansive, with the light of the stars reflecting upon it, though his eyes didn’t stray from Magnus for too long. He sidled up next to him, feeling warm in a way that couldn’t quite be explained away by alcohol. His gaze trailed over Magnus, mind straying toward the last time he’d heard Magnus say as much – when they’d decided to throw it all in and actually be in a relationship. He bit his lip to keep from saying something – they were good now, but he didn’t want to make things awkward by bringing up something other Magnus said. Or was it future Magnus? By the angel, it was hard to get it all sorted in his head.

He rested his arms lightly on the railing, though he had yet to take advantage of the view (well, Magnus definitely counted as a view, but Magnus was not what this balcony had been built for). “I was never much for they journey,” Alec admitted. The destination was what he'd always been striving for. "But now..." he trailed off, fixing Magnus with a smile, soft at the edges.

He’d been raised since birth to be a soldier and soldiers weren’t exactly known for stopping to smell the roses or enjoy the view. But he’d never known any different, so it hadn’t seemed to matter too much to him. But here? Now? He very much wanted to soak up the moment, to be here with Magnus just because he could, not distracted by something he needed to do, someone he needed protect. And it was....by the Angel, it was nice.

Magnus felt it too. In a way that became more and more clear with each passing day since the moment Alec told him that he was in love with him, but didn't get angry or distance himself again when Magnus didn't say it back. When Magnus simply asked for time, for the opportunity to fall into those feelings on his own the way that Alec had in their world, that was exactly what Alec did.

And it was in every small action between then and now, every laugh and every pause when he reconsidered something, changing his mind mid-sentence but never brooding, never making it awkward... those were the little moments that allowed Magnus to start to fall for the young shadowhunter standing next to him on the balcony.

And with Alec beside him, leaning against him and smiling that warm, soft grin of his, Magnus tilted his head up as he leaned in to catch Alec's lips against his own.
