    @Ayano Tateyama
Settling into Elysium had been a little more difficult than Shiro had thought it would be. Perhaps it was because the fact Lance had died in his arms, perhaps it was because things with him and Keith were getting better but still... slow, and not to forget the fact his boyfriend had killed his evil clone not that long ago either. As Shiro stood by the elevator that lead from mainland Pandora up to Elysium, the paladin realised to himself that perhaps nothing much had changed since he arrived here, that things were always moving so fast and far ahead he was trying to keep up and failing to do something as important as looking after himself. In essence, that should have been simple, sure, but when was it ever?

Shiro had grown too used to putting welfare of his own mind on the back burner.

Clearing his mind for now, he had his friend Ayano coming to see him, and the others who would be around of course, so that was a much nicer thought than the other things going on in his head. Smiling warmly to himself he thought he could see a familiar red scarf coming into view among the mass of people exiting the elevator, Shiro raising his hand as he waved happily to his friend.
"Ayano! Over here." The elder called, waving his hand around a little more to make sure he had caught the girl's attention. Smiling so bright it almost looked dazzling, excusing himself as he passed people quickly.

Finding himself swooping down to hug the teenager in his arms when within reach, he didn't hesitate to greet her whilst rubbing the back of her back.
"Its good to see you." He murmured, leaning himself back so he could get a good look at Ayano, chuckling before he motioned for her to come along with him, offering to carry her belongings if needed.
"It won't be far to walk. We live fairly close to this place too. All ready to go?" Shiro reassured, waiting for the girl to be ready before they began walking. It was nice, a day off, spending it with a friend and in his comfortable and casual clothes too? Even better.

After disastrous meetings with both Lance and Hunk, Ayano was hoping that this time she would be able to meet with someone without causing a disaster along the way. Granted, she was able to find out that more of her friends were still around and even where exactly they were living thanks to it, so she wasn't complaining too much. She just wished it could have happened in a better way.

When she first arrived in Elysium, wearing a simple white dress with a red collar, she looked around, but soon stopped once she heard a familiar voice. From there, it didn't take long for her to spot Shiro waving at her and making his way over. It had been what, over 2 months since they last saw each other? Considering the disastrous event at the start of September, it felt like an eternity.

"Shiro!" She called out to him as she dashed towards him, almost running over some people along the way.

Once he was within reach, she pretty much threw herself at him, wrapping him in a tight hug. The space pilot was a lot taller than her, so even standing perfectly still she still only reached his shoulders, allowing her to just rest her head against his chest. He returned the gesture soon after and, while Ayano wasn't exactly starving for physical affection (Scott gave her plenty on a regular basis), she had missed Shiro enough that she was trying to make the most out of it, almost disregarding the fact that they would be spending a chunk of the day together.

"It's good to see you too." She pulled away a little to look up at him with a wide, enthusiastic smile.

Despite the fact they had only met a couple of times, Ayano felt an almost familiar type of bond with the pilot. Maybe it was just the way he acted, but he felt, in some ways, like the big brother Ayano never had. Hugging him felt warm, even calming to an extent, not like she was hugging someone who was just a friend, but someone who was like family.

Still, she broke off the hug once he asked if she was ready, eager to spend some time with him in the still-bewildering city of Elysium. She only carried with herself a small, red bag straped around her shoulder that only contained the essential things like a phone and a wallet, hardly any weight that she needed to pass over to someone else.

"All ready to go!" She answered him, still having the same goofy smile on her face.

Releasing the teenager he smiled warmly at her once more, giving her a thumbs up when she looked up at him in such a goofy way. 'Cute' he thought to himself, seeing Ayano more and more like the younger sibling he never really had in the first place. Jerking the same thumb in the direction they were to begin walking, Shiro began walking with the teenager, rounding other people either trying to leave or waiting for their own loved ones with heightened anticipation.

    He knew how they felt.

Fishing something out his pocket, he held out his mechanical arm to Ayano, offering her a small bag of candies that Hunk had made and packaged specifically for him to give her when picking the teenager up. Smiling happily as he let the girl take the treat, Shiro murmured that they were from Hunk though from this point he doubted Ayano really needed telling who made it. Hunk was the best cook out of them all of course.

And as promised, the journey to the paladin's new home was not far at all, a bridge and short walk away in fact which lead up to the nice looking home the paladins shared with one another. Letting them in, Shiro held the door open for Ayano before first being greeted by their dog, Juvo, woofing softly and wagging his tail in a happy little greeting.
"Good boy, go on, down now." Tossing a treat off down the corridor (Shiro kept them in his back pocket for Juvo almost all the time considering he spent so much time with the eldest paladin), the man chuckled before showing Ayano around the home par from the bedrooms of course, just gesturing to them.

"Right. What can I get you?" With his work as a bartender before the Calamity and his current job at Hunk's little cafe, Shiro might have still been trying hard to get better at cooking, but he could at least be proud of the array of drinks he could make.
"Hot cocoa? Or maybe something cool? If its hot cocoa I can promise whipped cream and marshmallows." Leading Ayano into the kitchen, the man had slipped off his shoes at the front door, now rolling his sleeves up his arms and washing his hands, throwing a smile over his shoulder at his friend whilst waiting for her answer.

Ayano followed right next to Shiro, being a little surprised when he suddenly offered her a bag of candy. He said they were from Hunk, meaning they were likely homemade too... Ayano couldn't help but remember that awful accident at the restaurant when she thought of Hunk, but, well... if there was anything that said he didn't hold it against her, it was the fact that he went as far as making her some treats and asking Shiro to give them to her during their meeting.

With a simple thanks in return, she took the bag and was quick to take one of the sweets and pop it into her mouth. Soon enough, her face was lit with joy as the flavor was absolutely wonderful. When Shiro said Hunk was a fantastic cook, he sure wasn't kidding. If she could eat things that tasted this good often, she would begin feeling like a princess. That was just how good it tasted.

When they got to the house, Ayano took a moment to just look at it from the outside before heading in. When they were greeted by a very furry, adorable creature coming, Ayano could barely keep herself from squealing. It was such a cute dog, she wanted to pet and play with him, but she refrained from doing anything at the moment so as to avoid risking getting bitten or anything. Dogs were cute, but they could cause a world of pain too.

"I didn't know you guys had a dog! He's so cute!" Ayano voiced her excitement, looking like she could barely restrain herself from just hugging the dog right then and there.

Still, she followed Shiro into the kitchen, where he promptly asked her what she would like. She didn't have any preferences and could do with pretty much anything, but Shiro definitely sounded like he was trying to push her into having some hot cocoa and, well, who would deny such a nice offer?

"Well, that hot cocoa sounds like a dream." She giggled, her joyous smile still unfaltering and, in fact, only seemed to be getting bigger.

"Oh Juvo? I can't believe I haven't mentioned him before. He's a good boy, Keith actually brought him home some time ago." Shiro explained, smiling a little bit to himself as the dog finished greeting his guest and padded over to the paladin in the kitchen, plopping his bum down on the floor and wagging his tail more than happily. Tossing the dog another treat, Shiro washed his hands again before he gave a thumbs up to show Ayano's good choice in agreeing to letting him make her a hot chocolate.

Putting a pot of milk to gently boil for the drink, Shiro found a large, tall mug that seemed almost too large for the teenager, though if you asked the elder he would tell you nothing was too good or too much for the teenager.
"The others are out at the moment and I have the whole day off for you. But you have to catch me up on what you've been up to. How're things back down on the mainland?" Shiro asked, bringing over a plate with a slice of cake and some biscuits on the side, options for Ayano to choose from and both definitely looking home baked and made by none other than Hunk, again.

Telling her to help herself after handing over a small fork for the cake, the man darted back to the pot of milk, turning it off and pouring the warm liquid into the mug, mixing it in with the cocoa and filling the kitchen with the smell of rich, deep chocolate. adding a little cooler milk on the top to help reduce the temperature, Shiro sprayed the whipped cream on top in a high swirl that looked sturdy considering its height. Using chopsticks, he placed marshmallows the colour of white and pink atop the cream, turning the mug this way and that carefully before nodding as he was pleased with the end result.

Bringing it over to the lounge, he placed it on the coffee table atop a coaster, gently resting it in place before he brought over his own mug of cocoa a few moments later. Sighing in relief as he took a seat on the sofa and shuffled his black lion slippers on, tucked just beneath the table.
"So. You have my total undivided attention, tell me how everything has been going on."

So Keith was the one that actually brought Juvo to live with them. Was it a rescue, or did he just want a pet? She had really only met Keith once, but he didn't strike her as someone who would be really looking for an animal companion. Although... now that she thought about it, there was something ironic about the fact that the people who piloted giant lion robots had a dog for a pet.

When Shiro brought her the slice of cake and the biscuits, Ayano couldn't help but feel like she was being spoiled. She wasn't about to complain about it though, even if she wasn't sure if she really would be able to eat that many sweets.

"Everything is a lot bigger down there," she answered, grabbing the fork and taking a bite off the cake. "Pandora Town is now Pandopolis and is so much bigger, even the places that kept the same name feel so different. And it's so weird how so many people act like what happened in the end of August didn't happen..." She was sure that it happened, she had met others who remembered it and hell, the person she spent all of it with also remembered it. "I don't leave the city very often though, so I don't really know what's going on outside of it."

She watched as Shiro prepared her hot cocoa and the longer she did, the more she wanted it. The marshmallows, the cream, the smell... it all looked so tasty. It was a good thing she had something else to keep palate satisfied otherwise she would've started getting really antsy.

Following him over to the lounge, Ayano took a seat on the sofa and grabbed her mug of hot cocoa, bringing it to her lips. It was pretty hot, but not to the point of burning her mouth, and goodness did it taste good. Her first sip was probably longer than it should've been, but that was just further evidence of how much she liked it.

"This is so good!" She smiled, wiping off some cream that got over her lips. "Hmm... despite everything, not a lot changed for me. I still work as a babysitter, I've met some new people... Oh! And I started dating!"

She perked up significantly once she talked of having a significant other, although with it came the memory of a certain incident. She wondered if Lance would have talked about it with Shiro, given how embarrassing the whole thing was. Well, maybe he just didn't tell the most embarrassing part of it, that's probably what she would have done.

"You... might have heard that from Lance." Her eyes shifted with embarrassment as she took another sip of the hot cocoa, her downwards gaze allowing her to properly notice something Shiro was wearing. "...Are those lion slippers?" She asked, her voice sounding amused in a manner that gave the impression that she was trying not to laugh.

Smiling as the teenager said the drink was good, Shiro was just happy she was enjoying something he had made, his hard work from the training he'd been having now paying off. He listened to her recollection of the things that had been happening down on mainland Pandora, the man listening as he nodded between intervals of sipping at his own hot cocoa.
"It must feel different. But as long as you're alright and settled there. The people of Pandora are lucky to have such a sweet babysitter around to help them." Shiro chuckled, nodding to Ayano for a moment before he blinked at her next words.

"Dating? Ayano that's wonderful news! Who's the lucky person?" Leaning in slightly at the news, the man was not as surprised when he heard about how Lance might possibly have been involved. From the sound of things, he wasn't the one who had gotten Ayano's romantic attention though.
"Actually no. I don't believe Lance told me about that but if it went the way I think it might have then I'm not surprised." Shiro murmured, thinking it explained why the paladin had been throwing himself into so much work lately too. He'd grown up a lot in the time away from one another, the Lance Shiro had known was more... flirtatious and whilst he had a good head on his shoulders he wasn't exactly as put together as he was now. Seems like his luck in love hadn't changed though.

Glancing down at his own slippers, the man gave them a little wiggle before nodding his head with a small chuckle leaving him once more.
"Yes. We all have our own pairs, colour coordinated too. They kinda came with the lions and I have to say they're a very nice perk." Giving one more wiggle of his slippers, Shiro settled back down, hugging his mug against his stomach whilst he rested his other hand over the top of it and looked at Ayano.
"Being back in space after so long... Its something to get used to but familiar at the same time. Almost like home." Shiro didn't want to go back to anywhere near or like Cascade Bay after the Calamity, not after he had lost Lance and blamed himself for it.

The slippers... came with the lions? Ayano definitely wasn't expecting that giant robot lions would have matching slippers as part of the package, but maybe they were made by the people who originally created them? If so... that was still a pretty strange thing to make, but in a good way, one that made Ayano actually start giggling.

"That's so cute. Kinda wish I had one of those myself now." Maybe not lion themed, but cats? She'd be all over that and now that she thought about it, there was probably some place that sold them.

As it turned out, Lance hadn't actually told Shiro what happened, which was understandable, very much so. Of course, Shiro knew his teammate well enough to know roughly what happened, although he most likely didn't think of the fact that Ayano had actually accepted to go on a date with Lance because she didn't realize his intent until later.

"His name is Scott. We met on my second week after arriving in Pandora and, as a member of the City Watch, he saved me from an attack. He escorted me back home and it just so happened that we were neighbors." Ayano giggled again, still unable to believe the sheer coincidence involved in this situation but very glad for it. "We became friends and we even went to Tanabata together, but we only started dating after we woke up in this new Pandora."

She took a moment to sip her hot cocoa. Ayano thought back to the day where she happened to run into Shiro during Tanabata. She had gone there on her own because she couldn't make up her feelings regarding Scott and he had been a good distraction to get it out of her head for a while.

"He's a really strong, very kind person. He's, well... he's my hero, in more ways than one. Really cute too, especially when he starts getting embarrassed." There was a very clear fondness in her voice as she recalled some of the moments they had shared with each other. "It didn't take long for me to start falling for him but... I never thought he'd be interested in someone like me. But then, after getting through all that chaos together and meeting up in the new Pandopolis, he just... confessed to me out of the blue. It caught me so offguard."

Ayano sipped her hot cocoa again, her gaze dropping a little. Scott had done a lot for her, including saving her life, but what had she done for him? When he got shot, all she could do was watch and hope for the best. It had been his own instruction but still, she felt so powerless at that moment.

"I don't know what he saw in me that got him to feel that way, but... when he confessed, I was afraid that if I didn't take that chance, I might never have one again, so I did it." Her gaze lifted up to look at Shiro for a moment, before she averted her eyes in embarrassment. "Um, sorry for rambling," she apologized, feeling like she had said a lot more than it was necessary. All Shiro had asked for was a name, after all.

Shiro gave one more wriggle of his slippers for good measure before finding himself sucked into the story his friend was beginning to tell him about the young soul who had clearly so entirely eclipsed her heart. Smiling to himself as it reminded him of his own past feelings and loves he couldn't explain properly even if he wanted to, Shiro was happy to see what a younger kind of love still looked like, especially in Pandora when things had the tendency to really mess things, people included, over.

A small 'Ahh' came from the man as Ayano explained about tanabata, realising that the man had been the friend she mentioned meeting there the day before she'd met Shiro and the Voltron crew at the same festival. Clearly she admired him, going so far as to call him her hero, and it seemed from the things she said that he must have felt the same way. If not more. Part of him wanted to meet Scott, perhaps out of feeling like some older brother to Ayano now, but he trusted her judgement and was just happy she was happy.

Sometime during Ayano's explaining Juvo had returned, sniffing at Shiro's hand before the man placed his mug down in favour of letting his dog climb up onto his lap. Stroking over the animal's fur, Ayano now had two pairs of eyes watching her whilst she continued, Shiro still smiling whilst Juvo watched in question but seemed to be happy to just let the girl speak undisturbed.

"Well Juvo and I can see why he likes you. You're a wonderful person, Ayano. I'm glad someone's seen it in you and made you feel these things. Scott's a lucky guy!" Shiro commended, ignoring when the teenager softly berated herself for having spoken so freely about the guy she adored.
"I'd love to meet him sometime too. Anyone who's important to you is someone I'd like to get to know. Even if its just a hello in person. But I'm just so happy for you, Ayano. You looked adorable gushing about him just now."

Ayano smiled a little when Shiro went on talking about how Scott was the lucky one in the relationship, but once he started going on about how she looked cute gushing about her boyfriend like she did, it soon turned to embarrassment. Was she really gushing? She didn’t think she was being that passionate about it but now she found herself having second thoughts.

"Stop that," she told him, blushing and trying to hide it a little by bringing the mug of hot cocoa closer to her face before taking a sip from it to regain her composure. "W-Well, I could introduce you to him one day, I’m sure he’d love to meet you too."

But that was enough about her. She hadn’t seen Shiro in a good while now, so she needed to know more about what was going on. She had met with Lance and Hunk since the world changed, but she didn’t know much about what Shiro was up to since then.

"So, how about you? What have you and everyone else been up to?" She asked, having regained her composure and smiling cheerfully as always.

Shiro chuckled and tipped his head back when she told him to stop, enjoying getting to tease someone else for once even if it was all out of friendly joking around. The sweet tint of red on Ayano's cheeks was honestly just a bonus. Nodding in agreement to getting to meet the young man, though her next question gave Shiro that rare moment of clarity and time to actually recall all the things had gotten up to since last they'd seen one another. What had they done since last meeting?

"Well we now have Allura here, again, though she hasn't disappeared this time so we're all grateful for that. Did I mention last time she was here...? Anyway she is and she has her castle with her too. The Castle of Lions, which is where, surprise surprise, all our lions came from. " Shiro gestured vaguely off towards the front door as if to say it was right outside, when in fact Allura and her castle were more like their neighbours. Totally not weird, especially when you were already living out in space.

"Honestly everyone has just been trying to find their feet again. Hunk, Keith, Pidge and I all kind of got used to living back on the mainland. We all... missed space funnily enough so getting settled back out here has been an adventure on its own but things are going smoothly." Honestly Shiro was convinced all of them felt some kind of guilt at being kept in Pandora and therefore unable to be back in their own timeline where they were supposed to be stopping the Galra, making up at least part of the reason they'd moved out to Elysium. But that wasn't something he was going to just put out there, to the paladins or Ayano.

"Other than that I've just been working, both a job and sorting things out with Keith where I can."

Allura... that must've been the princess he had mentioned before, right? It sure sounded like it, if she had her own castle! Apparently the lions Shiro and everyone else piloted came from there. Did they come from her kingdom then? The technology there must have been really advanced. Ayano had only gotten to see one of the lions once, but what she did see left her throughly shocked.

It was no surprise that the team decided to live in Elysium because they had gotten used to living in space. They didn't have the option of going home so the next best thing would be somewhere that was familiar to them in a different way.

"What about Lance? He was here before too, wasn't he?" She asked, distinctly remembering Shiro mentioning him when they first met. What he said about Keith also caused her to frown a little in concern as "sorting things out" usually meant something bad happened beforehand. "Did something happen with Keith?"

Anyano had no idea about the grievances that had befallen the Voltron crew a little while ago, did she? Part of Shiro whispered that she didn't deserve to hear about it either, needless worrying, pain over friends and how they had felt over the events that had unfolded. Another voice whispered that he was just hiding, recoiling away from the possibility of friendship deepening and essentially Ayano becoming even more precious to him that she already was. Could he risk losing her too? That pain that came with those bonds? That reminded him no matter what the Galra had done, he was still human?

"Lance... Lance died in the Calamity and it was my fault." Shiro admitted quietly, his head bowed as he recalled the day that still hadn't left his dreams, his nightmares, no matter that the Blue Paladin had long returned to them.
"We were fighting Kaiju that had come right out the waters surrounding our home, back in Cascade Bay? It was Hunk, Lance and I whilst Keith and Pidge were off in another part of Pandora." Should he tell her the whole thing? He'd make it shorter so Ayano could just get the idea, the gist.

"I almost died. But when the Kaiju came for me again after I had just broken free, Lance went down instead and... and he just kept going. Down and down..." Staring at the space in front of him as if he was watching Lance beginning to sink into the depths, to drown all over again, the elder's voice dipped with emotion clawing at his throat and making it hard to swallow let alone speak.
"I pulled Blue out the water... the Kaiju was down. But Lance- He-" Unable to say the words, the irony of the Blue paladin drowning was still one of the cruelest things Shiro had ever had to witness. Lance had returned somehow though, a new Lance, or rather a Lance from later in his life. It didn't take away the horror from that night though, the horror Hunk and he shared but so rarely used words to speak about if at all.

Running his tongue between his lips, suddenly feeling dry and stunting him from speaking, Shiro turned away with his head still bowed as he brought up Keith this time.
"With Keith... It was a while before. There was a clone of me, were you here when doppelgangers were appearing in Pandora? Anyway, they shared your memories and things but their personalities and motivations were the opposite. I had just left for a few days vacation away from the paladins so I could clear my head." He hadn't taken a break since, not away from his friends and family because of what had happened in even such a short absence.
"When I returned I found out that a doppelganger of mine had been lying to the Paladins and tried to kill Hunk, threatened Pidge and tried to sway Keith. I found myself- my clone just... laying there, run through from Keith's blade, Hunk's legs broken... all of the paladins broken."

    Because of me.

It wasn't fair to blame himself when it wasn't his doing, instead a freak occurrence in Pandora but it had caused a rift between Keith and himself. Keith had been the one to kill the monster without really know if it was Shiro or not, the man he loved ended, snuffed from existence at the edge of his blade. Every time Shiro saw the scar on Keith's face he was reminded of that time and how he wished he could change it so much. Lifting his hands up in a helpless gesture, Shiro didn't know what else he was supposed to say to Ayano, a sad smile tugging at the corners of his lips as those stormy coloured eyes of his finally stole a glance at his friend. He'd let her see through a window into part of his life, let her realise just some of the horrors he had been through and endured still. Hopefully she didn't find him too much now, if she did how could he ever admit to the other horrors he'd been through?

Nothing could have prepared Ayano for what she was about to hear. Lance had died, before she had even met him. One would think that was impossible, but that was when Pandora showed how strange and cruel it could be. Shiro's team was, like one would expect from them, trying to save people suffering during the Calamity, but that all came at cost that might have been too great.

Ayano's expression was already one of wide-eyed horror as Shiro mentioned that story, but then it only got worse. He revealed something about doppelgangers, which likely happened before Ayano had arrived in Pandora. Just as he decided to take a break, an evil copy of him appeared and did horrible things towards all the other member of the team and that had been why Hunk was with crutches when they first met.

Was that why Shiro looked so down when she first met him? That would match up with everything she did know, but she still could barely believe that Lance had died after that and was now, she assumed, unaware of that very fact thanks to Pandora.

Ayano had barely enough awareness to set aside her mug as she listened to everything Shiro had to say. By the time he was finished and looking at her with that sad smile on his face, her eyes were already tearing up as she suddenly threw herself at Shiro to wrap him into a hug.

"You've gone through so much," Ayano said, sniffling. "It must have been so awful. I'm so sorry." She tightened her embrace as her tears began to stream down her eyes.

As the young girl sprang at Shiro in a hug, the elder's eyes widened with his arms out at his sides, blinking several times before he lowered his arms finally. Wrapping his strong arms around Ayano he sighed softly and listened to her sniffled words, smiling gently as he lifted one of his hands to gently run over the back of the teenager's head, petting her hair in the hopes to comfort her. If she cried like this for him now, what if he some day told her what had happened to his dreams of touching the stars before his body betrayed him, gave up on his dreams before he was done fabricating them?

"Its okay..." The elder whispered to Ayano, leaning his head against her own whilst taking to rubbing her back instead.
"They're all alive, they're all still here in Pandora." Shiro was grasping at anything he could to try and make Ayano feel a little easier about the whole thing. As much as he encouraged having outlets for emotions he never wanted to be the cause of someone being so sad and crying because of something that had happened to him. The paladin definitely felt a weight lift from him though and that was all thanks to his little sister lending him a ear to talk to.

Keeping one arm around the teenager, Shiro reached the other out towards the coffee table, grabbing several tissues from the little box before he leaned back again. Holding them out for Ayano with a little encouragement of her to lean back, Shiro smiled when he managed to get a glimpse of her face, a little puffy, a little red and full of emotion. Still smiling sweetly at her, the elder hushed her affectionately and wiped under her eyes, over her cheeks with the tissues and as gently as he could, his deeper voice sounding out between them again.

"Don't waste your tears on this oldie."

Ayano couldn't help but feel like the situation had been flipped over somehow. Shiro was the one who had to go through awful experiences, yet he was the one comforting her as if she was the one who had gone through all of that. Maybe it was because it all happened a long time ago and he had the time to move on from it, while this was all brand new information to her, but it still felt like he was reversing everything on her.

The comfort he gave her, however, did a lot to calm down her own emotions. The whole thing caught her offguard, especially since they were having such a lighthearted day before it. Her emotions came out stronger than they would usually be and now she needed to calm down.

Shiro was doing a great job at it. Feeling him return the embrace, then his head leaning against hers followed by his hand gently rubbing her back, she already started feeling better. It wasn't very often that Ayano got that kind of comfort. Scott was the only one who gave it to her and when it happened she even started crying. The warmth of the gesture seemed to melt away the sadness and Ayano's breathing returned to a normal pace, helped by Shiro's soothing voice and the nice gesture of him wiping off her tears.

It was nice to a level where she didn't want it to end.

Even still, she pulled away from it and took the tissues he so thoughtfully got for her. "Don't talk like you're some kind of old man, you're not that much older than me," she said inbetween sniffles, wiping tears away with a tissue.

She didn't actually know Shiro's exact age, but he sure wasn't old, that much she could say with absolute certainty. Still, that particular topic provided her a good distraction by sending her into a much lighter conversation topic.

"Sorry for making you talk about all this. You didn't need to think back to all of that." She sighed, now fully calmed down.

"Oh come on, I'm nearly a decade older than you, Ayano. That has to count for me talking at least a little bit like an old man, right?" He murmured as the teenager pulled back a little, taking the offered tissue and beginning to wipe away at her tears. Shiro kept his hand at her hair though, softly gliding over the strands and keeping them out of her face whilst he was glad her breathing had returned to normal as well. As Ayano apologised to him, the paladin shook his head, sending his tufts of white hair swaying over those stormy eyes of his.

"Nonsense. I've let you look into a little part of my life, my history. Its not all bad but maybe some day I can tell you more about the other things too, some happier, some sadder, until you know me entirely. Or at least as much as you'd like to know about Takashi Shirogane." Lifting his hand, Shiro playfully saluted at Ayano, laughing to himself before he tucked some of her hair behind her ear, his palm resting at her cheek whilst he smiled. Definitely the more affectionate, tender older brother type.

Grabbing the quilt from over the back of the sofa, Shiro wrapped it around Ayano's petite shoulders and told her to wait a minute whilst he headed off. He brought back some water, holding the glass out for the teenager and only letting go when he was sure she had a good grip on it.
"And... maybe some day you can feel ready to lean on your old friend, tell him some things too. But there's no rush on that. There's no rush on anything, not now when I don't have to fight an empire in space."

"Maybe once you hit thirty," Ayano joked, managing to let out a giggle and a small smile. That still wasn't very old for her, but she thought missing the opportunity to make a little joke would be a shame. This coupled with the soft touch of Shiro's palm on her cheeks helped her recover from her emotional outburst. It was actually incredible, how good Shiro was at making her feel at ease.

He had told her a little part of his life... everything that Shiro had told her had been what happened in Pandora, what else could've happened back in his world? There was some reassurance when he said there were some happier thing, but then there were also somehow even sadder things he had gone through. He had just spoken about losing one of his dear teammates during the Calamity and having something wearing his face injure and cripple the others... What could be worse than all that?

"Anything you want to tell me, I'm willing to listen," there was no hesitation in her voice, even though she had already been brought to tears, she was willling to listen to worse things if Shiro felt like he could trust her with that knowledge. "No matter how sad it may be." She added for emphasis.

Then there the topic of her own life. The way he spoke about it, Shiro sounded like he wanted to know more about her, and the way he reassured her that there was no rush... it made Ayano wonder if he actually knew that there were a lot of things she wasn't telling him, or if he really just wanted to make sure she felt comfortable with the idea.

"I don't mind telling anything you want to know," she spoke truthfully, enhanced by a sincere smile. There were things that would be very hard to explain, but she was prepared to tell other people about it, especially someone she had to grown to trust as much as she did with Shiro.

"Oh that won't be long now, Ayano. Soon you'll see the wrinkles and grey- uh, more grey hair." Gesturing to the tufts of white that liked to fall over his eyes more often than not, the man chuckled softly to himself before he watched as she seemed to piece herself back together bit by bit, that happiness and warm glow that came so naturally from her returning.
"There's probably a lot more I could tell you. But I think my heart has taken about as much as it can seeing you cry, Ayano. At least for this day." Something told him that Ayano would probably be likely to shed a few more tears for him should the day come he told her of what happened before Pandora and its woes. But for now, he wanted to keep feeling a bit better whenever he saw her smiling at him.

When Ayano offered up her willingness to tell him anything he wanted to know, it gave the elder room for pause as he looked at her quietly. How did one ask what made them share that empty look in their eyes sometimes? A quieter laugh where sunshine used to spill from? A quicker understanding of someone else before yourself? What had the world done to Ayano for her to be all those things? Things he couldn't fathom all on his own, but things Shiro could relate to and see sometimes when he looked a little too far into those usually warm eyes of hers.

"In your own time, Ayano." Leaving it at that, Shiro held her gaze for a moment before trusting she would realise in her own time what he meant. Smiling a little, he carefully reached out to get a better grip on her before tugging Ayano closer. Almost like a human-sized teddy, he cradled her in his arms for another hug, his body mostly warm if not for the metal arm half hidden beneath his clothing.
"...Thank you." He whispered, his eyelids closing softly whilst he enjoyed holding her like that, one of his hands at the back of her head and cradling it in a loving kind of manner whilst his own head was bowed to her shoulder.

Ayano was curious and afraid of what else Shiro could have in store for her. Of course, after her little display after learning of just his Pandora problems, he probably didn't think he would be able to handle other, possibly worse things. And he might have been right. Ayano certainly didn't feel like she would be able to endure even more tragedy having struck someone who had so quickly become dear to her. Maybe it was best to wait after all.

In her own time, he said... Shiro definitely knew that Ayano wasn't as bright and cheerful as she tried to be. He knew that the person that she was now couldn't have been made without some struggle on her part, probably because he saw a little of himself in her, just as she could relate to his own losses. The death of someone precious to him... and the situation with his clone... It now made her think of how her father would feel if he knew of everything that had been done using his body... They were similar, yet different, and they both seemed aware of it.

Did this mean that Shiro would react in the same way as her if she were to tell him the truth? It was hard to imagine someone like him breaking apart, but at the same time... nobody was invincible.

Before she could dwell on it any further, however, Shiro pulled her into a hug and thanked her. For what, she didn't really know. In the end, she was the one that needed to be comforted, but whatever it was she did to help him she was glad she was able to do it. His embrace was warm and the touch of his hand on the back of his head felt nice. She hugged him back, pressing her head against his shoulder.

"Thank you too, Shiro." She said in a tone almost like a whisper.

Other than that, she wasn't sure of what else to say that she hadn't said already. Her eyes glanced over to the table where her hot cocoa was still sitting, just waiting for her to take it back. Right... this was meant to be a fun day, right? Maybe it was time for her to rerail everything so they could enjoy the rest of the day together.

"... Have I ever told you of when I ran into Hunk in a restaurant? It was really embarrassing." She abruptly changed topics, a smile on her face as she managed to let out a giggle, in spite of the fact that she was about to out herself as a complete klutz.
