    July 9th. Defense Headquarters. Midday

    So bored.

Danny sat on top of his roof in ghost form. The sun beat down on the black tiles, absolutely baking everything on top. The only thing that stopped Danny from cooking was the layer of ice he caked his spot of the roof with. Unfortionatly, rather than actually properly keep him cool it just made an uncomfortable range of really cold on his back and scorching hot on his front. On top of that, even ghost ice couldn't withstand the heat. Tiny streams of water flowed from the ice, dripping down from the roof and watering the grass below. A few squirrels and insects gathered at the edges of the ice, liking greedily to parch their dry throats.

The problem with no school, no proper job, and a measly amount of not so close friends meant that Danny didn't really have much to do. He didn't really want to go begging for more odd jobs. Night wouldn't come for several hours so patrol was off. Danny didn't own a tv or any video games to help keep him entertained.

Seriously bored, Danny rolled over and noticed the squirrels. He lazily dropped his hand on the roof. Invisibility spread from the spot his hand touched all the way to the squirrels. They squealed with terror. One leapt several feet away. Another scrambled for the edge, only to grow confused when it couldn't actually find the edge and didn't fall. Danny chuckled.

That was it! Danny shot upright and glanced around. He hadn't played a prank in a while. His normal targets still lived in Amity Park. Most of his focus was on trying to earn enough money to eat. Danny was way past due for some ghostly entertainment. Smirking, Danny kicked off into the air and searched Misty Hollow for the perfect target. It took him only a few minutes to stumble upon the worst choice: The Defense Headquarters. Most of the Defenders were actually pretty willing to give Danny a pass. Heck, they'd granted him a vigilante license. Still, he had more than a few beefs with hunters in general. A little harmless payback wouldn't hurt anyone.

Danny cloaked himself in his ghostly invisibility as he floated down towards the right side of the two story building. He rubbed his hands together with glee before placing them on the front wall. Danny strained as he concentrated, spreading the invisibly to the building itself. Gradually, the walls and floors of the second story started to vanish. The first quickly followed and even the roof was swallowed. In less then a minute a quarter of the building had disappeared from sight. They were still there of course. The building wasn't actually damaged. What's more, all of the people, decorations, and furniture inside remained visible.

As tiring as this was, Danny couldn't help but chuckle at the confused faces inside. Oh man. This is too good. Danny reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone to snap a few pictures.

One thing that Spider had learnt about Misty Hollow was that it was the most dangerous town in Pandora. Two months ago, this town lost its barrier and monsters ran rampant on the street while strange occurences happened on a daily basis. As a place, Misty Hollow was certainly atmospheric; it was a place in which you were certain to find a god or something strange.

Spider did not like dangers but he liked coolness and something interesting and Misty Hollow had an abundance of interesting things. A proof of this statement was the fact the moment he got to Misty Hollow and was only walking there for a quarter of an hour, he saw a building disappearing.

Interested, he walked to the building and headed straight into something hard. Dizzy with pain, he took a step back, composing himself then reached out his hand to tentatively touch the air. Underneath his hand was the surface of a wall even though there was no sight of a wall. He guessed that the building did not disappear, it just became invisible. Looking around, he spotted a kid taking a photograph of the invisible building. Being such a responsible adult as he was, he told the kid off,

"You shouldn't take photos like that, kid."

Conjuring in his mind all the intricate patterns, Haldir honed his skills with his long sword. He went through each motion, maneuvering his feet and arms in perfect coordination. Due to the absence of company at the backyard of the Headquarters, he continued almost instinctively to twist gracefully or to strike hard towards an imaginary foe he had to slay or coming elegantly to poses.

The marchwarden continued to practice seamlessly the combinations. Flashes from the Golden Woods and his brothers kept whispering in the form of vivid images, the fragments of his kin and homeland made his spirit lurch. A pause followed, deeming the chances of seeing his realm again slipping. A dour thought, yet, close to reality. Suddenly, the building behind him vanished.

His breath caught in his throat and his jaw clenched. Shock overwhelmed his before something odd claiming his attention. A partly hidden figure of a person showed up from a spot which looked like the opening of a window. After lifted his head in an endeavor to focus, the archer immediately realized that the shadow was a secretary who was inside one of the upper floor’s offices.

Moments later, the elf saw a man walking straight into the currently empty area where a wall should have been but stepping backwards as though he had hit against an invisible surface. Apparently, the establishment had not actually disappeared. Instead, the building had merely been concealed by some kind of peculiar magic. He slowly lowered his weapon and sheathed the blade.

The ellon relaxed a little because he understood the true nature of the ongoing event. Thankfully, no immediate threat arose. Rather than a dangerous attack, the whole situation probably served as some short of game. The authorities had dealt with similar tricks in the past, therefore, he tried to remember a few citizens who had demonstrated the abilities to accomplish such a result.

A number of faces and names crept into his mind, yet, none of them was an enemy of the town. With his shoulders held back and his chest puffed out in a display of confidence, the swordsman approached and stood by the man’s side. The brooch on the belt revealed his position as a Defender. He heard a chuckle perpetrator convinced him about the intentions. “This is not amusing.”

Danny couldn't help it. Seeing everyone freak out was amazing! He struggled to keep his laughter contained. In his attempt to keep part of the building invisible, take pictures, and stop himself from breaking out into rolling laughter, Danny lost concentration on himself. The next thing he knew someone called him out.

Danny's core leapt into his mouth and he practically dropped his phone. One glance down at his own visible body confirmed it. Crud. He was caught. On top of that, Haldir of all people was there with the same scathing look he'd seen on principles or his mother. That whole 'I'm not amused and someone is in deep trouble.' That some, unfortunately, was probably Danny. Out of pure reflex and self-preservation instinct, Danny pulled away from the building. The portion that was invisible snapped back into view, whole and undamaged.

The teenage part of Danny's brain, the part that had reverted to the complexity of a reptile and no sense of long term consequences, screamed at Danny to run for it. Heck, he even hid behind the corner despite knowing the jig was up. Danny couldn't help it! He'd seen the guy in action. Against ghosts!

Danny floated down to the street level and peeked out from behind the corner of the headquarters. "In my defense, it's a little funny."

From a corner, a man stepped out. He had flowing blonde hair, surprisingly good look and something not normal about himself. From the way he spoke and how he behaved, Spider immediately came to the conclusion that he was a man with authority and he was probably finding the person responsible for this prank. Spider could enjoy a good prank here and there: he was the son of Anansi who had tricked people stronger than him with intelligence regularly. It was in his nature not to dislike those sorts of pranks as long as it did not came in the way of his interest.

The boy, whom Spider thought was just taking selfies and doing irresponsible teenage stuffs, acted scared and immediately hid behind the corner, now on street level. The building snapped back into visibility.

Spider agreed with Danny that it was funny, too. He did not think that he wouldn't have done it himself if he had been in Danny's position. He had done some really mischievous tricks himself when he was a child.

"He is just a kid. I do not think you should be too hard on him."
Said Spider to the blonde-haired man. People could be too serious sometimes.

The person responsible for the prank proved to be a rather familiar face. Haldir had fought against the ghosts which plagued the town with the youngling as his ally during the barrier’s restoration. Nevertheless, the aforementioned did not excuse the current deed. The man beside him though suggested that the age should became a redeeming feature and the defender partly agreed.

The archer glanced at the stranger next to him, offering an affirmative nod. “Of course he is a child.” An otherworldly calmness tinged his deep voice in an indication that anger did not govern his emotions. “Still, the rules of the town apply to all its residents.” After a brief pause he added in a whisper. “Worry not, for we are never too harsh on those who have not seen enough winters.”

Judging from the boy’s years, the swordsman understood how the lack of experience in life justified the ignorance regarding the way a relatively simple action displayed the potential to influence a large number of individuals. Worries had definitely arose amongst the citizens as a result of the building’s sudden disappearance, especially after the dark events of the previous months.

Although the Headquarters returned to the prior state, still the elf’s intentions had not included the infliction of fear. Therefore, he felt a little surprised when the teenager took cover behind the corner of the building. “Danny.” He said politely, not answering whether he deemed the practical joke funny. “Show yourself.” His words came in a gentle manner and encouraging tone.

“Approach.” Frankly, the warrior had expected more from someone with such talents and had nearly disregarded the importance of a mortal lifespan. “Do I have to explain the reasons why such mischievous acts are not acceptable?” His face remained a mask of impassiveness.

Okay, that wasn't fair! Danny was so not a child! Teenager, sure. But he wasn't a little kid either. Danny opened his mouth to protest from behind the safety of his corner, but shut it pretty quick. He could either protest the stranger's argument and Haldir's agreement, or he could hope it worked to get him out of trouble. Danny regretted not protesting about two seconds later when Haldir proclaimed that it didn't matter. Or at least, it didn't get Danny totally off the hook. Danny fumed a little and grumbled under his breath bitterly.

Haldir ordered Danny to 'show himself.' Grumpy, Danny stepped out from behind his corner and frowned up at the older man. He crossed his arms over his chest and waited. Haldir wasn't exactly being nasty in his orders, but between calling Danny a child basically to his face and his gentle 'this is a learning experience' voice that most people reserved for toddlers, Danny's ego didn't appreciate the bruising.

"Dude! It was a prank! And the building's fine." Danny protested. He waved emphatically at the building to prove his point. Even though he made part of the building disappear for a little while, it wasn't damaged. "No one got hurt." Probably.

The blonde-haired person had all the flowery sentences that Spider was liable to have. However, the man was too serious, which was something Spider did not approve of.

"A young tree's wont is to be unruly and wild. To cut off its unruly stems is to cut off is life."
Then he added. "Equal are summers and winters." It was doubtful that the latter part of what he said had any meaning.

It was a good prank, Spider had to agree with the boy on that one. This was the prank he would have enjoyed doing when he was a kid if he had ever thought about doing it. Who cared if some people were confused? People got confused all the time!
