The wolf had been grateful when Yondu had decided this was important enough to follow it without much of an explanation but a definite undercurrent of urgency. Letting out a small growl when the man didn't move fast enough, the beast would bound on ahead once they were out of the pub, yowling in its insistence for the man to follow him that little bit faster. Sure enough, he had brought Yondu up to where he had reluctantly left his mistress in the first place, the woman still left alone, curled on her side against the sand where she had long passed out and quickly cooled down in response to what had happened. The wolf let out a pitiful whimper as it nudged at the woman's cloaked head, causing it to roll back in line for Yondu to see, her black hood pulled down and revealing her somehow paled blue face.

Even with Midna's eyes closed one could tell that the fire inside of the woman that so many had come to know her for was dwindling and close to being extinguished. With another whimper, the wolf had lowered his head and pointedly left his snout directed toward's the woman's chest. A pool of her blood had caked around her chest, the wound very much there and still a problem, her very life hanging in the balance as that very life was now in the hands of Yondu to be saving.

Sitting in front of his mistress, the wolf looked up at the Centaurian pleadingly, those big eyes searching in the hopes he had brought the right person to help, and that he'd done it in enough time as well.

Yondu should-a known there was somethin' nasty goin' on the moment ol' Wolfo came along, howlin' like crazy and draggin' him off toward somethin' small and slight in the dark. Hell, he more or less should-a guessed at it, considerin' this doggy didn't have any sense of humor t' go messin' with him for shits and giggles.

Unfortunately, no thanks to hisself bein' a little hammered at the time, he just plain wasn't thinkin' ahead until the black blur on the horizon started turnin' a little red and blue the closer he got.

And once it finally clicked in his stupid ol' mind that this weren't no run-a-the-mill stranger, just about everythin' else in his direct line-a sight didn't matter any more.

    Naw...aw naw...

His stupid slow ol' carcass got even slower once he saw her just lyin' there, her blood settlin' 'round her head like some asshole's sick idea of a crown. Somehow he managed t' push himself forward and scoop her up, but not before he heard himself start howlin' out a lotta words of his own so those other drunks would have the sense t' come runnin' to help out.

In all of what felt like one damned second, he and a bunch-a others had managed t' get her to a table, stickin' a huge wad of somethin' clean and white under her head before they lowered her down nice and easy. The next thing he knew, either hisself or some other jackass tried tappin' the side of her face t' get her to wake up.

The large canine followed as Yondu picked the woman up, whimpering for its master to wake up, to not be so cold, to not be so still. But not even the yelling from the Centurian calling for help as he had picked her up seemed to make her move, to make her roll back those eyelids and tell the man to shut up and stop making a fuss over something so small. But it wasn't. None of this was a joke, it was all too real for anyone's liking and as Midna was laid down on one of the tables, some bundled cloth propping up her head, she looked more like a still doll caught in the sad moments of the end of one's life rather than the fiery being she so often was.

It seemed the drinking establishment had come to a stand still what with the night's sudden turn of events, many of the patrons, if not all, crowding around and watching on with mixed emotions for the stranger. The touch to Midna's cheek did nothing either, motionless as she laid there quietly, her wound still gaping open and no one seeming to no what to do.

Until someone spoke up, telling some of the others to move out of the way. It was a hooded figure, a loner that had sat by a table on their own in a corner of the bar for most of the night. Until now. The being had said nothing, but was examining the wounds the woman had, muttering softly to themself before they seemed to begin chanting something instead. They told people to grab warm water, clean and boiled, more towels or bits of clean linen, as much as they could find and for everyone else to step the hell back.

Who knew a travelling healer would come in so handy? Let alone one who had been trying to escape this kind of drama and trauma. Either way, Midna's wounds seemed to do nothing for a while, a purple glow appearing right out of the gash along her chest. But given a few moments and the wound finally did begin to heal, not completely, but not as deep as it originally was, instead just deep enough that she would still need some stitches. Her head seemed to stop bleeding too, a relief as the healer had begun stitching up her chest, ordering Yondu to hold up the larger piece of linen so prying eyes couldn't at least see as much whilst Midna's chest was stitched.

The healer warned the Centurian that she might take a while to wake up, if at all, and until then he should find somewhere private to keep her, suggesting one of the rooms upstairs for now if he had nothing else to offer. Almost immediately the bar owner had agreed and had her taken up to the biggest room they had, setting her down on clean sheets with her wolf lingering just behind, though not before he'd given Yondu's sleeve a small tug as if to say thank you.

Mysterious as they were, as soon as no one was focusing on them just long enough, the healer, or rather, miracle worker, had left with no wish to be paid let along remembered, gone before anyone could say a thing. The place was quieter now, sombre as some patrons went home, others milling around as an hour, perhaps two had passed. One of the bar maidens coming over to Yondu with a bowl of fresh warm water and folded linen strips, handing them over and telling him he could stay with Midna for as long or as little time as he so wished, but to perhaps take these up to her side when he had a moment and collected himself.

Upstairs, Midna had been resting. Her breathing shallow but steady enough and it meant she was alive. Her wolf was curled up at the foot of the bed, its head over her legs as he watched between the woman and the door, promising himself he would certainly do better next time. And perhaps there was an even smaller part hoping Yondu wouldn't leave them just yet, long having clicked onto how important he was seemingly becoming to the princess.

If the rest-a these dumb shits thought they were gonna get a free show tonight, his own broken reaction t' damned near everything taught 'em otherwise. In no time at all, the bar got turned into a triage unit, and looky who got signed up for nurse duty, boys.

Not that he'd complain or nothin'. Naw, they would-a had t' drag him outta there t' keep him from stickin' close, and that would only be if they didn't get an arrow through their mushed-up heads first.

Maybe the rest-a the gang had seen enough of one injury t' not go lookin' around for another, though. Nobody dared t' say or do much while some magical stranger with no face got to work on the Princess, at least until he made a few demands of his own for some-a the folks to help out. After that, things got to runnin' a bit smoother. Stop the pain and bleedin', bring out the water and bandages, and oh yes, don't even think about tryin' to get a peek of flesh that don't belong to you.

Yondu would join in all these tasks without so much as a grunt of protest, and prolly wouldn't even breathe much 'til they got Midna upstairs to a makeshift recovery room. Right up 'til the moment where they got her safely into bed, time pretty much seemed t' slow to a crawl.

Once all the would-be surgeons had walked out and left nobody but Midna, Wolfo, and hisself behind, however, the clock jumped back to normal. And, stupider still, his bad habit-a second thoughts decided t' make a surprise appearance after months of stayin' quiet.

Wouldn't it be nice t' just walk away from all this? To not feel a damned thing about this gal? She ain't even your species, in case you haven't looked. Why bother stickin' around, then?

Yondu wasn't too sure why, but he knew damn well that he wouldn't walk away just yet. Not when Wolfo was whimperin' around his heels like this. Not when their lady was knocked out and hurtin' like hell at the same time. Not while he had t' make sure she wasn't dead.

Come on, girl,” he muttered, starin' nervously at the Princess' still form as though he expected t' see her sit up and start gaspin' at any minute.

You're stronger than this. Dont'chu dare prove me wrong...

It took perhaps another hour before the princess showed any more signs of life, a gasped and painful sounding breath coming from her lips as she tried to suck in as much oxygen as possible, but too fast as she ended up coughing. Midna cried out softly as her hand rose over her chest and shook a great deal, wanting to touch where it ached but when she had glanced down at herself to see what had become of her body, she could only let out a small wail of protest.

Her Wolfo howled lowly, softly even as their master was at least alive and breathing. The sound had Midna's eyes filling with tears whilst her vision which had only just managed to become cleared was gone again, making her blink rapidly whilst she glanced around out of fear now. What if Ganon was still around? What if the monster wasn't done and happy until he had his hands around her throat and made sure she wouldn't wheeze or gasp another breath again?

Eyes watering still she reached her hand from her chest to her eyes where she wiped away the tears lest they should fall, her eyes on the man now whilst her wolf had lowered its head to her legs again.
"Yondu?" She called, her voice unsteady as she was sure that she would never see him again, but here she was, watching him quietly and amazed to even be breathing at all. Her hand reached down to the animal, stroking over its fur before she let her other hand hide her eyes, her forearm resting over the upper half of her face to do so.

"It hurts..." She wept, Midna not being one to be known for such complaints but the princess left sounding so apologetic, so broken over what had happened now.

About an hour later, Yondu must-a dozed off or somethin', no thanks t' all the silence of the room and the wolf settlin' down beside him. A body couoldn't blame hisself all that much, though, 'cause it was pretty much the only thing he could do while he waited for his lady the Princess t' wake up.

Speakin' of, however...once she did start up with a gasp, he went and started up right back, goin' straight into dee-fense mode once he heard her cryin'.

Nuh-uh, girl...you sit'cherself back down for a bit, all right?

There would be no way in the Void that he would let her rip out her own stitches, not when he and Wolfo together were almost 90% sure that she might-a been gone for good. Still, his fuzzy partner companion had started shiftin' around and whimperin' as he took hisself straight t' the door, dead set on bringin' some kind-a extra help up here.

Hey! Any-a you smartasses got any painkillers down there, you better bring 'em up here pretty damned quick!

He would have t' shout that down the narrow staircase, o' course, but only 'cause he needed t' be sure that everyone downstairs heard him loud and clear. Once he could be sure that at least one other person was on their way, he would go right back t' Midna's side, takin' hold of her hand as he did so.

S'okay, Middie. You're gonna be fine. Help's gonna be here any minute now.

Beyond the pain she could hear Yondu calling for someone, insisting they bring her something, something she hoped would be able to quell the amount of anguish she was feeling. When her hand that laid over the edge of the bed she'd placed on top of was nudged, Midna had flinched at first before she realised it was her Wolfo, having circled back to her side and whining for her to stop those tears that pooled in her eyes. She mumbled a soft apology to the beast before stroking its head, the animal whining low in its throat before giving Yondu a long look as if asking for more help but knowing nothing else could be done other than giving this time, patience and space for healing to be done.

As Midna's other hand was taken up into another embrace she had glanced up quietly, past those tears in her red spheres before she looked up at the worn face. He was trying to reassure her, and somewhere in that moment as the words fell from Yondu's mouth, she had realised he didn't understand. He thought it was just the physical pain that was hurting her. How could he know otherwise? She might have spoken to him for a while before, but Midna had never opened up entirely about the monster that had done this to her. She hadn't thought there had been a need. But now... Yondu didn't realise the pain she was in was how all the "truths" Ganon had spoken haunted her.

    She wasn't needed.

    She wasn't loved.

She didn't even have her people to rule over and guide where she had earned her title in the first place. With a small noise that was supposed to resemble a 'No', Midna found herself choking on the sound before someone had knocked on the door and come in. It was the doctor from before. She recognised his voice when he said he had some painkillers, though was unsure if they would even work for the princess. But he left them for her all the same and with a glass of water, things Midna ignored in favour of turning her gaze back on Yondu.

Her eyes spoke the words she could not.

That she needed him there now more than ever and as selfish as she felt needing him, she wasn't willing to let him go any time soon.

Even with all-a the madness goin' on, Yondu thought this was gonna straighten itself out and calm everybody down, too. All Midna would have t' do was take her medicine, rest up a bit, and finally they'd be able t' talk things over like normal.

Or so he thought, until the gal got a good hold of his hand and gave him that look. One he might-a had on his own face a lifetime ago...if not longer than that.

"Hey...hey, easy now. I'm not goin' anywhere..."

He would go and sit hisself down on the bed beside her without a second thought, if only to keep her from gettin' too scared. Whatever or whoever had done this t' her had shaken her up enough.

"...Why don'tchu relax a li'l bit? Take a breather, or somethin'?"

How could Yondu tell her to relax right now? He wouldn't last in a fight with Ganon. Link had barely survived and that had been with the help of plenty of friends, specific weapons and herself and another princess. Ganon was in Pandora and he was running amok with absolutely no one ready or prepared to bring him down. And Yondu- Midna was most fearful for his life, having come to uncharacteristically care a great deal for the man to the point some might even insist it was an affliction of love from the heart. Pushing such thoughts aside, the woman spoke up quietly, looking feverish as she clung onto his hand tighter.

"He'll come for me again, Yondu. He's coming... He t-took from me-" She couldn't quite bring herself to say that the blade her foe had used was a most powerful kind, one that stole and fed on the victim's own life essence. How she had even survived was a miracle, but Midna was beginning to fear that the blade had taken things she would not be able to get back as easily as she had her life. She felt a strange sense of emptiness, a darkness swirling inside of her as it began to branch out from the afflicted wound on her chest.

Likewise, she couldn't bring herself to tell him that he was in danger too. That was the way Ganon worked, always finding the things, the people you cared about the most and making them disappear from your lives in the most painful ways he could imagine in his depraved ways. Another shooting pain ebbed from her wound, causing Midna to roll onto her side where she curled up just a bit, her blue skin littered in bruises from the brutality she had faced as bravely as she could, but now, as her red eyes met Yondu's own, she looked inconsolable and terrified.

    He...

Well, that ruled out the possibility-a some crazy lady getting too jealous of her good looks, and decidin' to take things out on her in the worst way. Her li'l statement could now cover around 50% of Pandora's population, but hell, this could be just the beginning of a question-n-answer session for 'em both.

...Okay, so ya got some idea of who was out there a short while ago? Good. Guess this is where I start askin' you a few questions—and it's up t' you whether ya want to answer or not—but here goes anyway. Did this jackass-a yours have one eye, or two?

A part-a hisself didn't want it to be that psycho Terran who could turn into a tiger as soon as look at anybody else. That would mean he would have to leave Midna for a while, or at least as long as it took for him t' run his arrow through the flarker 'til he was stone-cold dead and couldn't get up and walk afterward.

Then again, if his nasty hunch turned out t' be correct...what, then, would he have t' do to the would-be murderer next?

"Two. He has two eyes. Yondu this isn't the point-" Midna's frustration was clear in her voice as she spoke, covering her face with her hand for a moment as she'd heard her own voice crack too and that was most unbecoming of her as a princess. Not to mention, she didn't want Yondu hearing how much more this one person affected her than she'd already let on.
"I know who he is, he's from... he's from where I came from. His name is Ganon and he's a terrible, terrible being that lives on the fear and anger of others." He was the thing of nightmares, rallied up from the deepest, most rotten depths one could think of and then some. The scorned being would never be happy, not until he had his damned revenge and watched the whole world burn, any world too, whichever and any he could get his filthy hands on.

The flickering of the candles to the side of the room caught the princess's attention, her eyes lost as she seemed to be unable to hear anything else. All the princess saw was the gold of the flame, licking at the air and reminding her of the burning in her chest, the flames the same golden shade as his eyes. With a small wail of 'No' Midna turned her face away and hid behind her hands once more, screaming and crying out blue bloody murder as if the man was there in the room now. She kicked and flailed despite her current state, her wolf frantically pacing up and down by her side as if it could tell its Mistress was reliving the nightmare of the attack all over again.

"Make it s-stop- Go away! Enough!" Midna wailed, lamenting as fresh tears left streaks down her cheeks. Someone was at the door asking if everything was alright, probably worried that there had been some intrusion or invasion and that they were in need of more of their help. The loud bangs made it worse though, the princess covering her ears as she repeated softly 'No' again and again, pleading to be left alone and spared. A truly heartbreaking sight considering the strong woman Yondu had come to know of.

Yondu didn't normally like listenin' when he could be takin' some kind of action instead...but for her sake, he would have t' do just that. At least he could get an all-out lock on this jackass first, and so know exactly who he'd need t' punch into the ground as soon as he saw him.

Okay. So he's a two-eyed jackass named Ganon, gotcha. What's this 'Ganon'-a yours look like?

Next, he'd-a thought that he could get away with promisin' her a little revenge, maybe swear a vow or two in the middle of all this candlelight while Wolfo almost begged him t' come along. That would-a been the happy optimistic side-a things, 'cause it would-a meant that they could get rid of this monster right quick and then fly off for a celebratory round-a beer.

Unfortunately, somethin' in her voice got broken up, and then he heard her start screechin' like some Kree foot soldier had a mind t' cut her to death, one knife slice at a time. Suddenly, all them candles weren't so pretty any more.

    Aw, hell—!

The sight of 'em alone was real damn close t' drivin' her crazy. Or, even worse...somethin' rotten might-a been hidin' in 'em t' start with, and that meant somebody like him would have t' do somethin' about it.

One by one, he made sure t' snuff 'em all out, goin' here and there around the room 'til there was nothin' but her, hisself, and the moonlight in this little room of theirs. Sure, the last one might-a taken him some effort, but with a few knocks of his one good fist, that one went out not long after.

Now, all that was left for him t' do was try and get her calmed down again...or so he thought.

    ...That better?

As darkness fell over the room the princess did indeed find she felt a lot better, her eyes adjusting to the darkness when she rolled back her eyelids a little bit. Shamefully Midna wiped at her cheeks, ridding herself of the tears in place there before her lower lip trembled all over again, biting down on it hard to stop herself from looking like some Twili child missing their mother's side and a skirt to cling on to.
"I'll be fine. I promise- I promise..." She whispered, apologising softly under her breath as she didn't know how much longer she could put Yondu through this before she did her usual run of the mill and escaped these things.

    Attachments were a no-no.

Sighing she curled up on her side, the surface she lay on not the most comfortable of things but then she'd spent plenty of nights curled up on hard ground with grass tickling at her skin. With a hushed reassurance, she watched her Wolfo and apologised to him, stroking its muzzle before finally, finally the princess's eyes closed for what seemed to be the last time for this evening. Exhaustion and her healing wound were what took precedence in this situation, the room falling silent once more aside from her gentle if ragged breathing when the pain in her chest would become too much.

She didn't want Yondu going anywhere near Ganon, but if the day came where she was to thank and protect him, then she would make sure to keep her word.

Allrighty,” Yondu would mutter, lettin' the darkness grow between 'em both along with the silence. He hadn't let the idea of Midna not tellin' him what her attacker looked like go past hisself, 'cause as far as he knew, she could-a had a damn good reason for doin' so. Maybe there were certain monsters in the shadows that weren't meant t' be poked, 'cause hell, he had a few of his own that not even Mr. Quill knew about.

Then again...right before he calmed hisself down enough t' get some shut-eye, he kinda wished that she'd mentioned somethin' 'bout that jackass. It would-a given him one less troublemaker t' think about, at least…

Some time later, the sun would rise again like it had always done, and most-a the good folks of Horizon would get themselves up and out into the town t' do what they did best. Farmers would do their best at farmin', hunters would hunt, police would patrol, and so on down the line. One big network of workin', buyin', and sellin' whatever you had t' do your best in the desert, and not all that many folks lyin' idle in the middle when they could be doin' some good instead.

As for somebody like hisself, Yondu would stay put in his place by the door. All the better to catch any old intruders that wanted t' make another appearance, or else grab any new ones before they had the chance t' do any more harm to his 'patient' of the moment.

Or at least, that's what he would-a done had he not been snorin' up a storm in his corner...
