The words were a blow to him. A rejection, put out there plain and undeniable. whatever remained of the fog that had settled over his mind cleared, stripped away as though by an icey wind. From the moment she drew up her knees between them, as if blocking herself off from him, behind a wall, he could sense it coming. But to hear the words spoken aloud?

It was his pride that felt it first. Who was she, this mortal girl, to deny him? To reject him in favor of a set of foolish ideals he knew he could so easily get her to turn he back on if he chose to do so? His eyes flashed as he pulled, finally away from her. Without her touch the room suddenly felt far colder, yet he forced himself to ignore it. To rise to his feet in silence.

Was he not enough for her? Or perhaps this form, simply was not, this disuse, of the kindly young hunter, no matter what secrets and surprises he might posses.

And it hurt. that was the worst of it. That thought, that she spoke the words, I don't think we should see each other again, that it left him suddenly feeling as though he were suffocating. Who was she to make him feel this way?

His eyes caught her's once, before he stalked across the room and shutting the door firmly behind him.

This was not the end of it.
