    @Dust

After running away from that clownish lord, Thomas decided to continue to travel with Dust, who was a capable companion in this dangerous world. For a man who only had limited human strength and speed, having a strong companion was beneficial, especially when that companion was a kind though inexperienced person. Thomas first chalked Dust's naivete and lack of experiences up to a sheltered life but he was surprised to find out that Dust was barely a year old. Such a relevation made Thomas think that he needed to keep an eye on Dust, who definitely needed some guidance at this juncture of his life even when Thomas was hardly the most experienced person himself.

One day, in Cascade Bay, he came across several flyers advertising the Gold Saucer. He asked around and heard that the Gold Saucer was Pandora's premier entertainment venue. In his world, there was nothing like the Gold Saucer so it further peaked his interest. This place provided entertainment by means Thomas knew nothing about; the story about the lavish display, the giant wheel, the many strange entertainments attracted him so much that when he saw Dust, he said,

"We should go to The Gold Saucer."

From what he had heard, The Gold Saucer was a popular destination for young people and Dust was very young indeed. Maybe it would be a good influence on Dust, who was constantly fighting and killing people, to enjoy himself among other young people. Dust was a good person so he only fought and killed only for good reasons but constantly exposing himself to it might not the best choice for someone so young.

It was a bit strange, in Dust's opinion, to meet someone who was like, and yet fundamentally different from, someone he already knew. Perhaps that shouldn't be surprising, but Dust just couldn't get over it when they traveled together.

Fidget had been a little reluctant to have him along. It took quite a bit of bickering to get to the heart of the issue, that she didn't appreciate feeling replaceable. That afternoon was spent describing how important she was to Dust's fighting, and even more bickering, but eventually she conceded.

He regretted fighting so well when it came time to explain what he was. Being a sort of construct for the purpose of protecting one race of people wasn't exactly fun to describe. At least Ahrah did most of the talking, letting Dust only speak up when he felt it was necessary.

Once everything was out on the table, Dust couldn't help but feel like he was being treated a little differently. It wasn't concrete enough to just blurt out, but he felt it. He wasn't quite sure he liked it, though. It felt like he was being treated like a child, which he wasn't.

He wasn't expecting Thomas's declaration. His head was tilted to the side, slightly, as he hummed. Fidget, though, immediately jumped in. "It did look like a lot of fun on the posters! And I bet there, we won't have to fight any bandits or monsters!"

"I agree, you do deserve a break, Dust," Ahrah chimed in, "there is more to life than simply fighting."

"Well, I... I guess," Dust said, clearly not prepared for everyone to be in agreement, "we don't really have any other quests to do..."

Thomas felt a Fidget did not like him travelling along with them. However, for the first few days, he could not exactly leave them because he was not used to Pandora. When he finally had some understanding of Pandora and its inhabitants to live on his own, he had liked Dust and Ahrah well enough not to break up with their company immediately. Fidget was more difficult to get along but she was kind and generally meant well. Thomas did not see many kind, well-meaning people in Faerie so that trait was something he greatly valued.

All of the company agreed with Thomas enthusiastically, except Dust, who looked slightly nonplussed. Fidget generally did not agree with what Thomas said but she was always interested in fun. "The poster says that we can get there from the Portal Hub. One lady has told me the general directions but I am not entirely sure. Do you know the way?

Before Dust could speak, Fidget scoffed loudly and said, "of course we do. We've had to head through here a bunch of times. We've portalled in, and out, and back in so many times, we probably know it better than anyone else."

With a shake of his head, Dust spoke as if she hadn't said anything. "yes, we've used it a few times. It's just this way."

Thomas followed Dust to the Portal Hub. They were not the only ones who wanted to the Gold Saucer. That entertainment venue was very popular and a long line of children and adults were waiting for the tickets to get through the portal. The room was filled with the noise of children and adults talking at the same time. Thomas stood in line to wait until his turn. Ahrah and Dust were both quiet people so he did not have to worry about them. However, he had a feeling that Fidget would be very impatient.

Fortunately, the staff was quick so they only have to wait for some time before getting their tickets. He followed the instructions and walked through the portal. The sight that greeted him when he got through the portal awed him. Before his eyes was a bright giant cactus holding a building in each hand with a large wheel at the top. He did not imagine that anybody could make such a thing.

There was a sign pointing them toward the Entrance Square so he followed that, looking around every step he took to see everything. The places he had been to in Crystale Vales had been technologically undeveloped but this place did not feel like the rest of Crystal Vales.

    "This place looks fantastic!"

Fidget somehow managed to keep from whining about the wait, other than sighing a few times. Dust couldn't really blame her. From all the time they spent together, she seemed to always need to make noise, if only to get it out of her head. It was why they fit well, she was loud when he was quiet.

It didn't take the group too long to find their way to the Golden Saucer. Once they got there, Dust and Fidget both stood in shock, looking around them in awe. "Whoooooah," Fidget sighed, "there's so much... stuff."

Dust couldn't even find it in himself to joke about her simple statement, too overwhelmed by the sight. "I've never seen anything like it," he muttered.

    "So have I."

After a while of walking, they reached a room in which there was a large statue of a humanoid Cactus. The counter was crowded. There was also a line of people standing in front of the counter. However, because Thomas was so distracted by everything around him, time moved quickly and it felt like it took no time at all for their turn to come.

Standing in front of the counter, he purchased 500 MGP. He was about to ask the woman behind the desk for more information but the person behind them told them to be quicker. Knowing that people waiting behind were very impatient to have their fun, Thomas took a map and an information flyer and moved aside. There were a lot of places and many forms of entertainment in the Gold Saucer that Thomas did not know where to go first.

"Where should we go now?" Thomas addressed this question to Fidget. She was an excited creature so she should be given the first choice.

In what felt like a second, the group were saddled up with everything they needed to have the day of their lives. Fidget was grinning widely and moving more like a hummingbird. Dust was just silently reveling in the sights.

"This is so great!" she cried as she looked at the map over Thomas's shoulder, "so many rides, and games. Oh! Oooooh! We should go on one of the really, really fast ones!" She pointed excitedly at the amusement park.

"I thought you didn't like things being too exciting," Dust commented, amused.

"We've fought actual, real monsters. The rides are supposed to be safe. That makes them so much less scary."

It was great to see both Fidget and Dust so excited and happy about the games. Thomas had never seen them like this because they were too busy with travelling and fighting to truly have fun. They were both young and young people should have their dose of untainted fun.

"It says here that there are ... ae...aetherytes? They will take us to the amusement park." The information flyer was very easy to read. When Thomas first tried to read something, he was slightly worried that his Latin had become jaded. However, when he actually started reading it, it all came back to him gradually. Furthermore, he also had a feeling that some writing in Pandora went out of their way to make it understandable to him. The terms in the text of the information flyers were unknown to him but Fidget seemed to understand.

Aetherytes were said to be blue crystals so Thomas looked around to find them. It did not take long for his eyes to land on conspicuous blue crystals in the room. They had to wait again to get into the aetherytes. When they were finally brought to the amusement park, the sight that greeted them was of a small amusement park complete with games Thomas knew nothing about. For Thomas, it was a little bewildering to see so many strange things at once. It was also immensely captivating; Thomas wanted to try many of the games his eyes landed on.

"So what is the ride you are talking about?"

"There's a lot of teleporting here," Fidget commented, "that isn't really healthy, is it? I mean, we get more exercise than anyone who just teleports from one place to another."

"Well, for us, yeah," Dust replied, "but you're always flying. Even if you teleported, you're probably using up a lot of energy."

"Hey, that's right! I never realized just how health-conscious I was."

Before they could even blink, the group found themselves staring at so many rides and games, it was hard to even parse out what they were looking at. It was just so much, but in a really good way. At least, if Fidget living up to her name was any indication.

"I wanna try all of them!" she cried in response to Thomas's question, "like that one that's a big wheel up there, or those really fast boxes that are going on those loops!"

"Exerting yourself too much is also not healthy." Especially for them. Dust and Thomas regularly travel on foot for hours a day. Then they got into fight or ran away from enemies. They had more than enough exercises. What they needed now was a good rest.

Thomas stared at those two things that Fidget had mentioned. They both looked strange. He wanted to try them out for the sake of novelty and thrill but was not entirely sure he would like it. The one with the big wheel was slow and steady but the one with the fast boxes going in loops looked like it would make his stomach turn over itself. Even from here, Thomas could hear the screams of the people in the boxes. They were enjoying it; it was the thrill without the danger. "Dust, what do you think?"

"Well, maybe moving all the time isn't good for humans, but nimbats aren't really meant to stop," Fidget replied, "not unless we're asleep. We have all of this energy we need to use."

    "That explains so much."

    "What's that supposed to mean!?"

"So, what ride should we go on first?"

Thomas's question caused Dust to hum thoughtfully as he examined the boxes riding on the tracks. He watched it loop and said, "that thing would probably knock my hat off."

"You and that stupid hat," Fidget complained, "why do you even like it so much, you can't even see with it on!"

"I can see just fine, Fidget."

    "That makes even less sense!"

That did explain so much. Fidget always seemed to have the energy to make a comment, however inappropriate it might seem at that moment.

At this point, Thomas was so used with Fidget and Dust arguing like two children (he knew Dust was young but he did not know how old Fidget was) that he could block their noises out. He looked at both of them again and decided that he wanted to try the big wheel more. The big wheel did not look like it would make his stomach turn upside down and nobody up there was screaming at the top of their lungs.

"We will go to the wheel first then. We may have a good view up at the top."

"A nice height we're not going to fall from," Dust commented, "sounds good to me."

"Yeah, way better than... other high places."

"It's still odd how you can fly all of the time, but still dislike heights."

"Maybe you should try it someday, then you'll get to see what it's like to always be almost falling."

"I think I'll leave that to you," Dust said with a chuckle as he led the way to the wheel. Excited families and lone adults passed by the group as they walked, too amazed by the location to even notice the oddness of Dust and Fidget's existence. It was a nice feeling, not being stared at.

When they reached the wheel, they also had to wait for a couple of minutes before being getting onto a a metallic box attached to the wheel. Once they got inside, the ride was peaceful. The box went up to the top slowly and steadily. Thomas watched as the humans became smaller on the ground. The lights became little dots of yellow.

Slowly, the entire Gold Saucer came into view, dotted with countless lights. It was a breathtaking view. It would have looked even more breathtaking if they had gone here at night.

"Are you familiar with all these things, Dust?" Thomas asked.

Growing up as a child of a powerful nobleman, Thomas had known beautiful houses and intricate objects made by the human hands. However, the sight that laid before his eyes was more than what he had known from his years as a child in the human world.

Once the group were securely in the giant wheel and watched the Golden Saucer start to move away, giving them a better perspective. Dust and Fidget both leaned up against the window, clearly trying to see everything they could before they were back down to earth.

It took Dust a few seconds to even realize he'd been spoken to. He leaned back slightly and shook his head. "We don't really have anything like this in our world," he replied.

"Unless everything under us was on fire, nothing where we're from could look like this," Fidget agreed, not even turning away from her perfect view.

Thomas remembered what had been said to him about Dust's world. Dust and Ahrah's story had been specifically concerned with Dust's birth and origin. However, he could glean some information about Dust's world from the story. The Moonbloods were struggling to survive in a world hostile to them. There must have been more to the story.

"What is your world like? You told me that the Moonbloods were on the bringe of destruction."

This topic was not the most appropriate topic for this excursion but once Fidget mentioned about the fire, Thomas was curious to know what his friends' world was like.

Dust's tail swished back and forth slightly as Thomas asked about their world, specifically the Moonbloods. He wasn't exactly displeased to talk about it, but he wasn't eager, either.

"I don't know much about them personally," he admitted, "I've only met two of them in my life, a merchant and a crazed lunatic who burned down an entire village because he'd lost his mind. After everything that happened to him, it was hard to feel too angry at him."

"That is not the case for most of the remaining Moonbloods, of course," Ahrah cut in, "they had been attacked because of nothing other than their differences, and were scattered because of it. They possessed much fascinating magic, the kind that caused Dust's existence only one example."

For somebody who was created specifically for the preservance of a race, Dust did not seem to know much about the Mudbloods. Dust was only born for a year, after all. It was such a burden for somebody who barely knew how to tie a knot properly.

Thomas felt pity for the Moonbloods. Because Thomas was himself a magician, he felt some affinity to the Moonbloods, who also had some strange magic of their own. He looked at Dust and for some moments, he observed Dust with the interest a magician had for great feats of magic. Something created from an innocent but weak child and an evil but strong man, Dust was made from a form of magic Thomas knew nothing about but was fascinated by. He could learn nothing from observing Dust but he was interested in what magic from another world could do.

"I am sorry to hear that. I wish with all my heart that you and your friends will succeed in helping them. Some difference should never be the reason for the eradication of a race."

Dust simply hummed quietly as he gazed out the window, lost in thought. Fidget, of course, took the opportunity to speak.

"We will," she insisted, "we're gonna be fighting for the right people, and protecting. We can't lose against some big jerkface trying to do something so bad."

"While our goal is admirable, it would be wise not to become overconfident, Fidget," Ahrah replied, "our righteousness does not decide our fate."

"Yeah, but... we still can't be the ones to lose," Fidget said, "that general, he can't really destroy everyone, just because..."
