She was drunk. It had taken basically all of the money that she had left from arriving to do so on this weak, backwater realm, but she had managed all the same. It was when she couldn't walk straight and when she couldn't see well that all the memories faded away. Thousands of years had passed but she still felt far too much bitterness towards her memories to ever sleep well. It was only in these moments that Brunnhilde was able to get some real sleep. Something that would suit her well considering how little she had been sleeping since she arrived in Pandora. The beer was weak and their liquor little better.

Of course that was the entire reason why Brunnhilde had hopped into her ship and headed out to Misty Hollow. A short trip away in a space ship, never mind those stupid portal things. The Valkyrie didn't trust them, no matter what the rest of the population did on a regular, daily basis. But she had heard a rumor she was willing to believe in. Misty Hollow was the place to go if you wanted to drink. There had been numerous powerful "sorts" and rumors about all sorts of weird shit in this area of Pandora. Hints about beer that was crafted by gods and... well, she might have been a bit drunk. Moonshine. Whatever the hell moonshine was, Brunnhilde wanted it.

Except the Asgardian had managed to crash her ship instead of landing it. She had been far too drunk to drive and not nearly sober enough to land properly. Her ship was tilted up on the right hand side. Brunnhilde was still stuck in the crash webbing that served as a seat belt but she had been falling asleep in the first place. It didn't seem too out of place that she had landed at a weird angle.

Instead of concentrating on that detail the brunette reached up to unhook herself. She fell suddenly, smacking into the viewport below her with a little bit of a groan. From there it was all too easy to stumble out of her ship, leaving the gang plank down before she tripped and fell onto some grass. The grass was soft. The air was a bit cold but that didn't mean too much to her in her drunken state. Instead Brunnhilde curled up on her side and decided that this spot was as good as any for a nap. Just to close her eyes for a little bit before she went searching for that moonshine.

After running into a warrior princess who chose to befriend rather than slay a dragon the other day, Thor thought he was done with surprises for the time being. Well, being dragged into this realm with no way out was as nasty a surprise as they came, but just because everyone said there was no way out didn’t mean there wasn’t one. It just meant that they hadn’t found one yet, and he was determined to do so. One of these days, when he thought of some new way to breach those invisible walls. There was only so much brute strength and calling on his thunder could do, especially when he’d made a habit of doing just that at least once a week since coming here.

In the meantime, feeling some need to repay the locals -- the power plant had long been repaired, but with all the time Thor had spent helping with repairs, he’d grown fond of the people here -- he’d become a member of the Defenders. (He still thought Revengers sounded better, but Haldir hadn’t liked the suggestion, stuffy elf that he was.) Of course, that came with its own host of responsibilities, like patrol work and the like.

A part of him wondered whether being delegated to patrolling was Haldir’s way of reminding him to think before acting. It wasn’t like he was responsible for that dragon burning down all those trees the other day! He’d made it rain and put the fires out, so that ought to count for something. Really, there was no pleasing Haldir sometimes. But he did it anyway, if only because he didn’t have anything better to do and he didn’t want to sit around and wonder after the fate of Asgard for the umpteenth time.

Luckily, a few people came up to him just then to inform him of a crash nearby. A spaceship crash, which piqued his interest immediately. If there was a spaceship, that meant there was space. If there was space... that meant there was a way out of here. He reassured them that he’d look into the matter -- choosing to join the Defenders had been a good idea, come to think of it -- and headed towards the crash site at a jog. As soon as he caught sight of the crash, his eye widened.

He recognized that ship. It was Valkyrie’s ship.

Thor’s jog turned into a full-blown sprint, so that by the time he reached the ship he had to skid to a stop, his feet sliding in the grass. He almost lost his balance, but swung his arms up in time to straighten and find... Valkyrie herself a couple of feet away, lying in the grass and stinking of cheap booze.

“Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me,” he muttered under his breath, dropping down next to her. He grabbed her by the shoulder and started shaking her, but she didn’t respond. “Come on, come on, wake up! Oh my god, I knew it, I knew all that drinking was going to kill you someday” -- she suddenly shifted, and Thor gasped in relief -- “oh, no, you’re alive, okay, that’s good, that’s actually really good, okay, uh...” He rolled her over onto her back, sucking in a deep breath and grimacing. “You’re really going to hate me when you wake up.”

He slapped her, and slapped her hard.

There was some sort of voice above her. A rumble of some sort though it was far too close to her face. Whatever it was, it could wait. Whoever it was, they could wait. Sleep was important to Brunnhilde, next to fun and getting drunk. She felt like she was on cloud nine which meant she was having a good dream and Odin help the person who woke her. But what mortal would be able to? Brunnhilde hadn't met many people beyond the humans that had been there.

She received a little shake to her shoulders but she was too far gone to have that wake her. Though being slapped by another Asgardian was certain to do the job. Her hazel eyes popped straight open in an instant, zeroing in on the person over her even if she didn't recognize his features right away. After all, this valkyrie hadn't seen him lose and eye or seen him with his hair cut. Hell, she had barely interacted with him at all beyond dropping him off for a rather nice paycheque with the Master.

And Thor was completely right. Brunnhilde would hate anyone who woke her up and she would react in kind. So she twisted her body suddenly and violently. Of course she would regret this later but for the moment Brunnhilde's world was reactionary. Her head would hurt her later for it. Maybe her stomach too. But she twisted to the left, braced with both hands on the mossy ground below her, and then kicked straight up into Thor's torso with both feet hard. Not full out but hard enough that the man would be rocked back. Of course if he had been human she probably would have caved his chest in, but it was just instinct. Who would blame her?

Groggily she pushed herself up to a seated position but her head was swimming. Or it felt like it was swimming. Brunnhilde squinted at the figure, trying to figure out who he was even while fighting against the way her body was reacting to being woken up too soon. She sort of felt sick except she hadn't puked in at least a century and she wasn't about to start now. So she just sort of leaned over, trying to fight her body on that decision.

    She lost.

Thor didn’t even have time to gasp before Valkyrie kicked him aside. He stumbled backwards, crashing on his back with a wheeze as air rushed out of his lungs. Any regular mortal wouldn’t have managed to budge him, but Valkyrie was... well, Asgardian. And a Valkyrie, to boot. Surely she had an actual name, but whatever it was, she hadn’t told Thor what it was. So he lay there, trying to catch his breath, until the sounds of Valkyrie being noisily sick caught his attention.

“Oh gods, that smells disgusting,” he complained, rolling onto his side and climbing back to his feet. “You really do drink too much.” He knuckled his nose and stared at her, grimacing. Sure, he’d gotten roaring drunk more times than he could count over the years, but only on Asgardian drink. Everything else he’d tried over the years just hadn’t had the same kick to it. Where the hell had Valkyrie gotten her hands on something strong enough to make her puke?

“That’s it, that’s it,” he encouraged her, squatting down next to her. His face twisted into a grimace at how loud her retching was, and how bad it smelled, but he patted her back in gesture of solidarity. “Better out than in, I always say.” Even if he wound up surreptitiously plugging his nose with his other hand.

Brunnhilde didn't often get sick. But there might have been a dozen different types of booze and she had been spinning a little bit in her space ship before crashing. She probably hadn't eaten in awhile either. Brunnhilde did not take good care of herself. Or rather, she had been doing worse since coming to Pandora. Adjusting to life on this backwater planet had been difficult despite the fact she had been so adaptable before. But the fact was that she was not taking good care of herself and no matter what type of being you were, that was going to catch up to you sooner or later.

Thor made a mistake. He made the mistake in thinking that Brunnhilde would somehow be friendly. Or perhaps his mistake was being too friendly towards her after she had kicked him away already. Most people would take that as a sign that the valkyrie didn't want to be disturbed and they would have been correct. Thor was very mistaken in his good will to help Brunnhilde along in this process.

He squatted next to her and then he touched her. That was the worst move he could have made in that moment. Attacking her would have been better. Brunnhilde took a breath, wiped her mouth with the back of one hand, then turned towards Thor with hatred on her face. Because he wasn't his own person in her eyes. He was Odin's son.

She slammed her fist into him, into his face, not holding back in the least bit. From there it was easy enough to pick herself back up and take a few steps back before calling out to him. "Don't touch me, Odinspawn." The words were basically spat out, but then she was feeling sick all over again and she had to take several deep breaths to get control of it. What had she had to drink last night? Maybe she could find more of it.

Luckily, Valkyrie’s retching eventually stopped. Hand still laying soothingly on her back, Thor squinted down at the mess. Most of it was, of course, liquid. He exhaled, shaking his head. “You know, you really need to--”

Of course, he didn’t get to finish his sentence. He didn’t even get to defend himself before Valkyrie’s fist was in his face, stars dancing across his eyes -- eye. Singular. Damn it, he had to remember that. “Ymir’s armpits!” he cursed, clutching his nose. Oh, it smarted. It smarted a hel of a lot. He could get her kicking him aside when he was the first thing she saw when she started awake -- he’d have probably done it too -- but now?

“Odinsp -- what the hel’s gotten into you? Didn’t we already go through this?” he demanded, getting to his feet too. Unfortunately, his vision was still swimming, so his glare was more of a squint. “What happened to not wanting to forget anymore? To getting revenge?”

Odinspawn seemed rather confused with what was happening. Brunnhilde was getting her feet under her and feeling more hungover than sick. He was speaking of things that were impossible for him to know. Well, at least mostly. Revenge was pretty broad but it would easily apply to her feelings most of the time. And not wanting to forget anymore? That sounded so foreign. That sounded unnatural.

She must have hit him too hard. Which was too bad for him really because that meant Odin's son was weak. She did not feel bad because she had made his memories scrambled. That was his punishment for being weak. "Fix your thoughts." It was growled out but Brunnhilde was also getting to her feet. Taking a few more lungfuls of air in to make sure she didn't feel too queasy in the process.

He made it sound like they were somehow friends in all of this. Like she would ever be friends with him. "We have barely traded words, Odinspawn. Go jump in a blackhole." She hoped he would. There had to be a few of those out in space in this wretched place. There were still all the other hazards though Brunnhilde hadn't traveled too deeply. Blackholes had to be a thing here in Pandora as well. It was normal no matter the galaxy.

And it would have been amazing if his thoughts were so scrambled that he would have actually listened to her. Likely not but that didn't mean Brunnhilde couldn't at least hope for it.
