    @Odi

Every since the start of this plan for tracking the AIs and working to find some way to help them- which had been slightly fruitless, but still- there had been an element of risk to this entire endeavor. Once the pamphlets and the protests had started though it had become concrete to Futaba, a Real Thing. That had made everything seem a little more immediate, and threatening, which had made the teen a bit more anxious. She tried to fight it down, but as more and more people seemed to be upset by this she did worry. After all, even if it was stupid to hate a vaccine that kept your mind from being invaded that didn't mean that the stupid people believing it wouldn't fight for it. Look at the flat earth asshats!

So when Daisy had left for the big, publicized, televised protest and discussion that was planned Futaba hadn't for a moment thought about going. It was a crowd. An angry crowd full of arguing people who weren't even behind a nice, safe screen. Actually yelling that wasn't just capslock on max. Fists and anger and.. No. She'd stay here where it was safer and watch through the video feeds on the scene. No reason to drag Daisy down with her worrywart thoughts, right? So she booted up the computer and kept it going as she munched on some popcorn, sitting cross-legged on her bed, laptop across her lap. Yes. This was much safer.

It was then that things started go downhill. Something was- But then a sound in the living room drew her attention and she cocked her head, setting her laptop onto the bed as she rose and started toward her bedroom door, barefooted on the carpeted floor. Daisy couldn't be back, could she? She'd just seen her on the screen, and they were the only ones with keys. Felix hadn't texted to be buzzed up, and Akira would do that before just picking a lock. A shiver worked its way up her spine as she bit her lower lip and crept past her door to peer into the main portion of the apartment.

Futaba Sakura. She was the target. Odi didn't know why. He didn't need to know why as far as his programming was concerned. The only thing he did know was that his goal was to hurt her. Not simply to hurt her, to go further than that. The smallest inkling of that would never have appeared in the synth's mind were it unmarred. Instead, it had been invaded and he was somebody far from the gentle, curious, and excessively helpful piece of old artificial intelligence he was meant to be.

Breaking into the home had been a simple task if his programming had anything to do with it, and from there, it was simply finding her. He moved slowly and quietly, something that was easy for a being that did not breathe and had a high speed computer's awareness of its surroundings.

That was exactly why the sound that came from the living room, a book falling off of an end table, had been perfectly on purpose, a device meant to lure the auburn-haired girl out into the rest of the house from the bedroom she now resided in. Odi moved toward the wall just to the right of the door she might come through.

And the moment that she did, Odi moved, reaching out with one hand to clasp his fingers around her shoulder. His grip tightened, not quite crushing but strong enough to cause discomfort, perhaps even pain. "Hello," was the only thing that he said, vibrant green eyes staring back at her.

Not having her Persona powers in the real world really, really sucked. With her readouts, her goggles, all of her nice little dash readouts and scanners and sensors she never would have seen this coming. Instead she was just a regular teenage girl who thought she was safe at home- and not a home like with her uncle, where things were scary, but a nice and safe and happy one. Nothing bad happened here, not so far, and she had a lot of fun times in this house. Even now, when she thought there was a stranger in the apartment, she wanted so much to believe that it was a misunderstanding, or a surprise, and not a risk.

Except that it was, and she didn't have time to flinch away as the hand came down on her shoulder and squeezed, and she gasped a little on reflex, freezing in place, eyes wide behind her glasses. Nononono, came to her mind first, as panic started to take over and blocked her vision of what was actually happening, and she shrank inside her own skin to try to get away. No, not Uncle, not any familiar face, not even that stupid bully from the school- some stranger with blonde hair and green eyes, and an expression that was really, really spooky. She had no idea who this was- only that they had her, and the grip on her shoulder hurt.

"Wh... Who..." she started, in a tremulous tone with a squeak of indignant fear as she tried to pull away, then squealed at her inability to as she tried to think of any of the things her friends would have done, or she'd learned from school, or even something she'd seen in a manga or movie about things like this- but it was washed away by the ever-narrowing panic that started to set in. Nothing would work, it never did, she was small and weak and useless, just like she'd always been. Her heart was beating so fast that the world seemed dim and dull behind it, all muffled behind her rising terror. "Let me go, I'm sorry, let me go, lemmego," she finally breathed out, eyes welling as she tried to shrink back further. "Daisy! Daisy help!"

She wasn't fighting back, only trying to pull away from him. Were he in his right mind, were his mind working the way that a conscious mind should have been working, then Odi would have felt guilty. No, he wouldn't have felt guilty because this wouldn't have been happening at all and he therefore would have had no reason to feel guilty. And yet here he was, an iron grip on his shoulder as he pulled just enough to send her tumbling onto the floor.

But not far. Not far enough that he couldn't reach her, because Odi was still an intelligent being in many ways. But he wasn't fast, and that meant he needed to keep her in range of his grasp in order to do what he was meant to do here.

So he shambled forward like either a lifeless being or one that was simply struggling with what its body wanted it to be. Odi reached out, bending to wrap his fingers tight around her wrist.

    Daisy. Daisy.

    Daisy.

He would need to be fast.

He moved weirdly, but he was so strong, and even as that super-quick, super-smart, halfway-brave part of her mind struggled to grasp onto all of those tricks she would have used in video games where the foe had that power set, the reality of it all was too much. If she'd had one of her friends here she might have been able to throw off the terror and do something that approached useful or helpful to herself, but despite her cries for Daisy she knew that no one was around. It was more reflex that had sent her to shouting than actual hope, a futile effort made by her dizzy terror.

The tug on her shoulder sent her tumbling to the floor with a gasp, jarring her silent as she reflexively tried to push off against the floor while bringing her arms up over her head. Nonono. StopSTOPSTOP. Everything sped up at a dizzying rate as she flailed, too afraid to consciously even consciously plant her feet and try to dash for it. She scooted a half inch, maybe a full one, but it was no use, and it was only when she felt herself getting weaker that she realized she was holding her breath-

Then that hard grip was around one of her wrists and she opened her mouth wide as she tried to stand and pull back, staring between long locks of red hair. Air rushed into her lungs again, but not for long, and as she wrenched for her life- let him take the hand, let him pull it off, shedidn'twanttogo-

She shrieked wordlessly as her eyes welled, her pupils dilated until almost none of her taupe irises remained. Dimly she felt the back of her shoulder starting to ache as she pulled but the adrenaline was starting to course in her veins, leaving her uncaring about whatever was happening to her body. She couldn't be captured, taken, whatever done to her, bad people, bad places, badness was coming for her...

She was struggling, she was terrified, and Odi didn't care. He should have cared, he should have cared more than any synth should been able to care. After all, that newfound ability to feel was so much of the reason for the things that he had done lately and for the wonder he felt toward things he had never really been able to see before.

He had her hand, grip tight around it, and she shrieked. The sound would have made him feel sick to his stomach if such a thing were possible. He supposed it was possible in a sense that wasn't necessarily literal, but that would have, again, been if he were in his right mind.

So instead of sympathizing with her, his grip tightened on her wrist, bending it forcefully and sending what he could only imagine must have been an excruciating wave of pain of her arm. But Odi didn't stop there. He pulled, trying to drag her back to her feet again, yanking hard on that already hurting arm of hers.

Futaba could already hear her voice starting to crack from all of the noise she was forcing through it, but it didn't register at all; nothing came through the dark, dark film of terror that was falling over her eyes, narrowing the world to her gasps of breath and the threads of pain. Well, that and the frighteningly bright green eyes and that frozen, uncanny expression on the face before her. No doubt it would be featured in her nightmares for quite some time- if she lived through it-

Then, his expression still seemingly blank, he was bending her wrist and the threads of pain turned to searing wires and she went almost speechless with it, mouth wide as she gasped in reaction to it. It hurt a whole lot, why did he have to do that, what had she ever done to deserve something so mean, she was trying to help people! For the first time in ages she wished desperately for her mother.

Her feet weren't even kicking anymore, she was so preoccupied with the pain and shocked by her situation. That is until he started to lift her. No, he wanted her closer, closer was bad, closer was pain and scary things, and she jerked back with the last strength in her body. However, he was an unstoppable force combined with an immovable object, at least from her point of view, and she felt that strained shoulder finally give. Pain was a river in her, and with that freshly taken breath she screamed with all of the agony and terror in her tiny body, tears running down her face as she hung there in his grip, unable to even get her feet under her.

This was it. Felix, Akira, Daisy, everyone, I'm so weak and I tried, I really did, I'm sorry.

This was so far from everything he had ever stood for, even everything he had initially been programmed to do. Odi didn’t hurt others. He helped. He made lives comfortable, he served, and he liked doing those things. But there was no choice in what was happening now.

    Until there was.

She screamed, crying out in pain, and despite all of the other times he’d heard the pain escape her lips since he had stepped into this house, this one in particular shook him to the very core. Perhaps literally because whatever had been placed in his system, whatever had corrupted him, seemed to have a flaw. Maybe he was just too old a model, maybe it was the simple fact that, internally, he was already broken. There was no telling what exactly it was that broke him free of him, but suddenly he was seeing her.

Odi suddenly went still, his eyes widening a fraction more as his hand loosened around her arm before it finally released her entirely. “Can-- Can I help you?” he asked as though the words came before everything processed. Slowly, though, it was processing. She was hurt. She was hurt, and he had done that. Those thoughts sank in as he slowly, shakenly, looked down at his own hands and then back again. “I am sorry, please, let me-- let me help you,” Odi said, reaching out for her again.

She wasn't sure what changed between those moments as she hung there, sure her death was around the corner, that Futaba Sakura, AKA Alibaba, AKA Medjed was done in this world, but something did. True, she barely realized she was seeing anything at all, what with the glaze that came over her eyes and the pain and fear that became the sole focus of her life. There was so much she'd wanted to do and say, to help with, a world she'd been so afraid of, and she didn't want to make people cry for her. Felix and Daisy would be sad when she died, nooo-

But then she was dropping to the ground. Her legs were under her but she was much too shocked to actually land on them, ending up on the ground in a heap. The impact of hit jarred all of the way up through her though, making another shriek leave her throat as her shoulder and wrist twinged in agony. That was enough to bring her back to the present and she kicked away from him, feet and her working arm and hand scrabbling over the floor as she scooted back from his hand. He looked scared like her. Confused.

She had seen the virus before, Daisy had explained what it would do, and she could read between the lines. But she also knew that there was no one else who'd fought it in her recollection. This was a trick, or it was an error, but that didn't mean it would last. She couldn't trust it, and tears streamed down her face as she screamed and threw up her arm to try and block her face. "No! Nononono, don't, no touching, stop! Leave me alone!" tumbled from her mouth in a rush as she caught her leg under her and stood, dashing clumsily toward the main room of the apartment in a panic.

His hand froze there in the air as she screamed and threw her arm out in front of her face. It was fear. It was pure, utter fear and Odi felt hurt by it. Hurt that he had been the one to cause it for some reason that he couldn’t even really understand. He remembered what he had done and yet he had not tried to do it. He just had. Had somebody overridden his system? Was this strange free will gone?

But it was back now. He could think again, he could move freely again, and if he could have wept for the poor girl he had hurt, he would have. If he could have helped her, he would have. But his presence here was more harm than good, he found.

So he would leave her alone, slowly stepping away from her. Once, twice, a third time. His blue eyes searched his surroundings for the way out, which was easy to find once he spotted the front door. Odi hobbled in that direction, occasionally turning his head to look back to her, to the poor girl on the ground. He had done that.

    He had done that.

The only sound that followed outside of the girl’s sobs was the sound of the door creaking open before closing a moment later.

As soon as he started to move away she'd managed a stumbling, clumsy hobble toward the main room of the apartment by instinct alone. Her room was out of sight behind her door and therefore out of her panicked and pain-warped mind. That left moving forward, so she did, and she could swear that she heard her uncle's angry scream behind her, the way the rest of her relatives jeered at her mother's funeral, the angry men in their suits reaching out to grab her-

A sob left her mouth as she dove beneath the dining room table in the kitchen and she curled up in a ball- or tried to, forgetting her arm for a moment and then crying out as she tried to move it. The pain cut through the fog of fear a little, and she remembered random things. She wanted her mom, and Sojiro, and Felix, and she wanted the pain to go away and she wanted to be safe again and-

Her phone vibrated and she stared at it blankly, eyes flat and face expressionless as she typed. Help me.

The door continued to hang open as the phone dropped from her fingers and the tears ran down her face.
