    June 16th, Year 7
    @Danny Fenton

Supposedly, in the forests of Cascade Bay, there were creatures called kappas. Pidge hadn't ever seen them, until the day prior, when they were trying to retrieve some minerals from one of the forests near the beach. There was a small cave, set into a cliff face, which held some precious metals Pidge knew of, and some that they did not, that could be a huge aide in one of the experiments they were conducting. At least, so they thought. They hadn't managed to get close, before these creatures that they didn't recognize came out of nowhere and attacked. For the most part they got away unscathed, with some light scratches and a lost shoe, but the kappas had definitely been a nuisance.

That didn't stop them from coming back the next day, this time armed with research, and cucumbers. As it so happened, cucumbers seemed to be the favorite food of the kappa. Which seemed... random. Regardless, legend also stated that if you fed kappa cucumber, then you'd be able to befriend them, and they'd help you in some sort of way. Pidge wasn't really looking for a favor though. All they wanted was a pass at that cave.

With a sliced up cucumber in hand, they carefully crept towards the spot where they had previously been attacked. As they approached, they saw the tiny, ugly heads of the kappas' start to peek out from behind trees. Pidge hoped that they just hadn't seen the cucumber yet, because they still snarled menacingly as they came out of their hiding places and began to surround Pidge.

'Keep calm, keep calm,' they thought to themself. Suddenly they regretted coming alone, although if they were attacked this time, they had their bayard to defend themself. They just had to stick to the plan however. Surely the kappas would take the cucumber. They held it out further in offering. Finally, one of the kappas directly in front of Pidge noticed what they held in their hand, and hesitated, looking interested. Which, of course, was when everything went wrong.

Danny had decided to stay the night rather than go home like he'd planned. Talking to that teen and trying to comfort him had taken everything out of Danny. Mental instability was hard! He wasn't like his sister Jazz. She knew about this kind of stuff and how to deal with it. The most Danny could do was try not to make it worse. Honestly, he wasn't even sure if he succeeded either. Still, once everything was said and done, he swallowed the cost of a hotel cus there was no way he was flying hundreds of miles after that.

When Danny woke the next morning he did a slow pass over the town just to make sure that Day hadn't done something stupid. Thankfully, no one seemed to be talking about a sobbing teenager on the rooftops. Unfortionatly, that was when Danny noticed someone heading out into the forests alone. Although he wasn't a resident, he was well aware of the reputation the forests had around Cascade Bay. Grumbling, Danny followed invisibly after the person. He chose to stay above the canopy just to make sure that they didn't catch him and think he was some kind of creepy stalker.

Danny was glad he chose to follow. Kappas appeared and started snarling. Danny dove into action. He fired a series of ghost rays between the teenager and the monsters. "Don't worry." Danny said as he landed in front of the other teen. "I'll kappa you safe." he said before chuckling at his own pun.

Everything was going to plan. While the kappas were still snarling, obviously still cautious, they had also taken interest in the cucumber. "Come on," Pidge murmured under their breath, pasting on what they hoped was a disarming smile - if the creatures even understood facial expressions.

And then that was when some sort of laser-ray-things suddenly were fired from above, sending the kappas closest flying back into their companions. That really pissed them off. It hadn't seemed to do too much damage, but then again, these were supernatural creatures. Pidge blinked in disbelief at the teenage boy who had landed in front of them. He was a picture of the supernatural himself: shocking silvery hair, glowing green eyes, oh and the whole flying and laser beams thing. For a moment, Pidge was at a complete loss for what to say.

Before they could even try, the kappas that had been blasted were coming back around, and as a whole, the group looked much more menacing than they had before. They gathered around in an angry swarm around the two teens, clicking their sharp fangs together hungrily. One of the kappas in particular looked ready to lunge. It was the closest to the boy, so that's who it aimed for. Pidge whipped out their bayard and electrocuted it on the spot. That helped them find the words that had previously been lost.

"You idiot!" Pidge spat, gaze snapping to his momentarily to glare. "Do you realize what you just did?"

The kappa they had electrocuted didn't seem too hurt, it just shrieked and leapt back to join it's friends, whimpering. If anything, the kappas looked more murderous. They started to swarm into a more formidable force, but before they got too far, Pidge grabbed the boy's wrist, turned on their heel and blasted their way through the kappas behind them with their bayard, making a break for the cave. It was quite a ways away, but it was the closest thing to shelter that they had. "Try and make sure they don't follow us," they snapped at him, then muttered under their breath, "if you're any use."

The swarm recovered quickly from Danny's initial attack. Danny smirked, settling into a fighting stance as he readied himself to take them all on. That, or just put up a shield. They were kind of surrounded.

One of the kappa's lunged. But before Danny could stop it, the teen behind him shot it with some kind of electrical device. Danny jumped away from the contraption. He and electricity didn't exactly get along. Then the yelling started.

What?! Danny did a double take as the person behind him, the one he thought he was saving, yelled at him and called him an idiot. Shocked and stunned, Danny stood mouth agape as he stared incredulously at them. "Uh... taking you off the lunch menu?" He thought that was obvious! Apparently not.

Neither Danny nor the other teen had time to argue. The kappa group only grew more murderous as they advanced. Danny turned his attention to the angry monsters, only to once again be blindsided by the other teen. They grabbed his wrist and started running, nearly pulling Danny to the ground in the process. If it wasn't for the fact that he could fly, he probably would have face planted.

Danny recovered quickly and started running. The kappa hoard was hot on their heels as they headed for the cave. Taking the other teen's command, Danny turned and sucked in a deep breath. He released a death rattle that resonated with the air itself, sending visible shockwaves towards the kappas. Smaller trees toppled from the force. Underbrush ripped apart. The closer kappas actually went airborne and slammed into their fellows behind them. The monsters in the back clapped their hands over their ear holes and shuddered from the horrifying sound.

His ghostly wail only lasted a few seconds. He'd held back a lot of the power it held, but it certainly bought them time. Many of the kappas closer to him seemed down for the count. Uncurious or at least unwilling to move. A few of the middle ones actually looked kind of dizzy. The ones in the back certainly had a nasty headache. Danny was exhausted. He slumped, breathing hard and using his hands on his knees to keep himself upright.

"Right... running." Danny forced himself to turn, ready (if unwilling) to jog after the other teen as he seriously questioned his life choices.

That scream or wail or whatever sound came out of his mouth, was frickin' powerful. Pidge almost tripped over their own feet in surprise, whipping their head back around to look at him over their shoulder. Compared to their other tactics, the scream-thing he did definitely had more of an effect. And it definitely bought them time. He seemed pretty wiped after it too, compared to how he had been after throwing those laser beams or whatever they were.

Although what the hell? What kind of superpower was that? Who the hell was this guy? They desperately wanted to ask, but now wasn't really the time for questions. They'd wait until the two of them reached the cave. Then he'd have some things to answer for.

"Come on!" Pidge shouted, seeing him flagging. They weren't going to leave him behind to be eaten alive by the kappas. Pushing through the forest and hacking through the undergrowth with their bayard when necessary, they cut a path for the both of them. The cave wasn't much further, and it looked like they were going to make it, what with his wail incapacitating most of the kappas chasing them. "We just need to get to the cave and then we'll have some cover!"

Pidge made it to the cave first, since they had started running first, and they came to a stop inside, panting. They had been trying to get inside for a few days, but now that they had, they didn't feel quite so triumphant, considering. Although now that they had reached it, they were suddenly unsure how to keep the kappas from coming inside after them. They looked around, nibbling on their lip. At least they would only have one front to defend. Pidge peeked out again to see how the other teen was fairing. "Come on!" they repeated, waving him forward.

The other teen called for them to follow. Danny heaved himself fully to his feet and jogged after them. Thankfully, he was still in ghost form. Not only was his secret safe, but he didn't actually need to breath. On top of that, his ghost form was absolutely hardier than his human half. So the normal burning lungs and painful stitch in his side that he'd have felt were blissfully absent.

The pair headed for a cave and were nearly there by the time Danny actually managed to fully catch up. The sound of movement behind caught his attention. He glanced over his shoulders and saw a few Kappas in pursuit down the narrow path. "Oh come on!"

Danny put in a burst of speed and managed to make it into the cave before the kappas caught up. He turned around, his hands and eyes glowing blue as he blasted an ice beam at the entrance. A wall of ice bloomed at the cave's mouth, covering it in thick, crystalline ice. The ghostly ice stood strong, even as the first kappas reached it and started trying to chip away at it. Although not impervious, it would certainly keep anything out for a while. "See. Not useless." Danny managed.

All of Danny's energy seemed to fall away at once. The world began to spin. He wobbled. One hand went to his had while the other went to the wall for support. Calling Danny's connection to his ghost form tenuous was generous to say the least. Totally spent, Danny fell to his knees. Every part of him wanted to surrender to unconsciousness. But he couldn't, not with a witness. Danny fought desperately to stay awake. He couldn't afford not too.

Once the other teen had caught up, Pidge had lowered themself into a defensive position, ready to defend them from the kappas chasing him. They hadn't actually thought the whole cave thing through all that much. After all, it was a cave. The entrance was terribly open, with no way to close it. Although before Pidge had to do anything, Mr. Superhero was suddenly covering the entrance in a layer of ice. Ice. 'What the hell?' Pidge thought, completely bewildered. Now he could control ice? What even connected all these powers together?

'Not relevant at the moment,' they then scolded themself, watching as he fell to his knees, clearly exhausted. Regardless of how random, and slightly weird his powers were, they seemed to be taking a lot from him. Unsure what to do, they bit their lip and shuffled their feet. "Um," they mumbled (very intelligently). "Are you okay?"

Maybe he needed some food? They felt around in their pockets, remembering they had stashed away some granola bars for snacking later on. Plus they still had some left over cucumber slices, since the kappas had never quite gotten a chance to eat all of them. They held the food out in offering to him, uncertain. They didn't have super powers, and didn't really know anyone who did, except for maybe Allura, but she didn't really count since she was an alien. How were they supposed to know what to do? But getting him to eat seemed like their best guess. "Um, here. Will this help?"

The other teen asked if Danny was alright and honestly, he felt like he could sleep for the next week and still be tired. That's what he got for using all of his new powers in quick succession though. So much for a rescue effort. "Yeah." Danny panted. "Just tired. Give me a sec to catch my breath. Er- Just give me a second." He didn't actually need to breath (at least not in ghost form). No ghost did. Danny did it mostly out of habit. It kind of felt weird not too.

As strange as their situation was, somehow randomly getting offered cucumber slices seemed the weirdest. Danny chuckled. He sat back against the wall and took a slice. "Thanks. I'm Danny, by the way. Danny Phantom."

Something pounded against the ice wall. Danny jumped a little. He peered through the distortion and could see shapes moving on the other side. More pounding followed. The Kappas. They couldn't quite break through though. Danny's ice was strong and wouldn't melt for a while. Satisfied that they were alright, Danny settled back down. "Sorry about this. Once I've recovered a bit, I can fly us outta here. What were you doing here in the first place?"

They almost snorted. Phantom? Really? He definitely was some sort of superhero, if he had the weird ass name to go along with the weird ass powers. Pidge was able to restrain their condescension. For the most part. "I would say nice to meet you Danny, but considering..." they quirked an eyebrow at him pointedly, and shrugged. Once he had taken a slice of cucumber, they stuffed the food carefully back into their pocket. "I'm Pidge."

At his question they frowned down at him, placing their hands on their hips. "What was I doing here? Conducting a science experiment, that's what I was doing! I was trying to bribe the kappas with this" - they pulled out the cucumber slices, and waved them for emphasis - "before you busted in like a dumbass and messed it all up. I wanted to get to this cave though, so I guess there's that. And we're not leaving until I get my quiznaking samples." They huffed and grumpily pulled their backpack off their shoulders to get at their tools. Once they had what they needed, they then grumpily stomped over to the cave wall to get said samples.

They hadn't been that startled when the kappas had first started banging on the ice wall, but when there was another large bang, they jumped a little that time. Pidge glanced over and eyed the ice, and the shadowy shapes moving on the other side. "Is that really going to hold?" they asked skeptically.

"Hey!" Danny exclaimed indignantly. That was about the best comeback he had though. It wasn't his fault that Pidge had a freaking death wish. Danny was just trying to help. There wasn't any point in arguing though. Danny sighed softly.

Pidge's explanation made no sense to Danny. Especially since he knew how science experiments worked. Heck, he'd seen his parents conduct more than a few ill advised experiments. Actually... scratch that, maybe he didn't know how they worked. His parents weren't exactly normal. Danny also made a mental note to not stick around Pidge for too long. Sciencey types tended to get too curious. The last thing Danny wanted was to end up as an experiment himself... again... Danny shuddered and beat down the unwanted memories that surfaced.

Danny made sure to stay well out of Pidges way as they got their samples. He floated lazily off the ground, not even realizing that he'd left it in the first place. With the lull in action, Danny could feel himself start to nod. An extra loud bang and Pidge's question roused him though. He yawned and glanced at the ice wall. What were they doing out there? "It should. Ghost ice is stronger than the regular stuff. It doesn't melt as fast either."

Danny didn't seem all that interested in their experiment. Although they couldn't blame him; samples weren't that exciting. At least, these weren't, not at the moment. And he didn't seem like the type that would be all that interested in science either. Pidge gave him the side-eye when he started to float. Interesting.

They hummed in response to his answer, still studying the wall he had created. "If you say so," they huffed, mostly because they were still annoyed with him. They did trust his judgement though, as the kappas were after him as well. If he felt safe enough to doze off, that was good enough for them.

"Ghost ice, huh?" they asked, just as they were finishing up their samples and sealing the bag. "So is that your whole schtick, Danny Phantom? You're ghost-boy or something?"

Danny was starting to feel better. His recovery time thanks to his ghost half was pretty impressive. That and the good boost of adrenaline from the banging helped. Even if he was mostly sure it would hold, he'd been wrong before. Plus the half cat nap helped to give him a little recharge as well. Once more, Danny yawned. This time he added a stretch and a lazy back scratch for good measure.

"Boo..." Danny replied in the flattest tone possible. "Yeah, I'm a ghost. Sorta figured the whole floating, glowing thing might give it away." He raised an eyebrow at Pidge and then shrugged. "I'm also ready to go whenever you are. Just say the word and I'll fly us outta here."

They put the samples back in their bag, sticking out their tongue at him in response to his snark. “Oh shut up. It’s not like all your powers scream “I’m a ghost”. You shot lasers and ice out of your hands, and did a weird yelling thing earlier. None of those are traditionally “ghost” things.” Pidge zipped up their backpack and threw it over their shoulder, stepping closer to him. “Plus I can do this,” they remarked, and then went to whack him on the arm for emphasis, since, previously, their hand hadn't gone through him when they grabbed his wrist.

They turned towards the wall of ice to hide their grin; because despite him ruining their experiment initially, he was fun to interact with. Mostly because he was fun to poke fun at.

“Okay, I’m ready. But what are we going to do about them, hmm? You can fly us out of here, but they can fly too.” Their gaze flickered over the wall appraisingly, though for a different reason this time. “Can you make it fall all at once? Or is it gradual?”

"They are in my world." Danny muttered, pouting just a little. Even after so long in Pandora, he sometimes forgot that some things weren't normal in other worlds. Literally anyone from Amity Park could take one look at his ghost form and know it for what it was. Well... okay, maybe not everyone, but there were special, very dumb, cases. Namely the Guys in White and his Dad who couldn't tell a ghost from a turnip. Danny didn't count those.

"Ow!" Danny cried as Pidge freaking smacked him. He rubbed his arm and glared at them. "So tangible is my default. Like I said, normal for ghosts in my world. I can be intangible if I want to." Okay, that wasn't entirely true. Danny suspected his tangible default was due to his human half, but Pidge didn't need to know that.

Finally. Time to go. Danny chuckled. "They won't even know we've left. By the time that melts, we'll be long gone." Taking hold of Pidge's hand, Danny turned them both invisible and intangible. He leapt into the air, weightlessly carrying Pidge along as they passed seamlessly through the roof of the cave and out the other side. Flying higher still, Danny soared well above the treetops until he spotted the city. "Next stop, Downtown."

    ‘They are in my world.’

Pidge snorted in response, although their curiosity was piqued by that comment. The differences between dimensions, particularly species, technological and cultural differences, had always been a specific interest of theirs. They had this idea to one day compile a research database on the subject, one that would have to be years in the making. If they were still around for that long.

They turned to look at him in confusion when he told them that they would be long gone before the ice melted. Before they could ask what he meant, he was grabbing their hand and taking off. “QUIZNAK!” they shrieked, grabbing onto him with both hands, and wrapping their legs around his waist for good measure. They had nothing against heights - they flew a giant robotic lion for goodness sake - but he was barely holding them securely, and he totally hadn’t give them time to mentally prepare. They’d also never been carried while flying through the air before, by some ghost-boy they had met half an hour ago.

After their shrieks died down a bit, and they gained control of their frantic breathing, they asked, “Wait… are we… are we invisible?” If they weren’t so scared of falling to their death, they might have raised a hand to look at it in awe. As it was, they were staring at him - or rather through him - trying to see if they could find his face.

Danny's super strength allowed him to carry Pidge's weight without a problem. He'd picked a lot more than them with one hand. Plus he was used to his friends accepting how he carried them. So Danny jolted when Pidge wrapped themselves around him like a four legged octopus scared out of its suckers. That and his sensitive hearing did not appreciate the shrieking.

Rubbing his ear with his free hand, he shot a disgruntled look at Pidge. "Ow... Indoor voices on Air Phantom, please. And yeah." Danny dropped the invisibility. He figured they were far enough away from the kappas that they didn't need it anymore. "Perks of being a ghost. I can walk through walls, disappear, and fly."

It didn't take long for the city to come into view. They weren't exactly far from the city to being with. Danny descended fluidly onto the streets and landed without even a bump. Lifting his nose into the air he announced, "Thank you for flying Air Phantom, we hope you've enjoyed your flight."

He didn’t take too kindly to the fact that they had shrieked apparently, but excuse them, he was the one that had picked Pidge up without warning and carried them off into the sky. Shortly after they had pointed it out, he was dropping the invisibility somehow, and Pidge watched in awe as the color sort of melted back into their forms. Fascinating. It effectively distracted them from returning with a snarky comment of their own. Man this guy was kind of annoying. Kind of fun too, if they were honest. They had always liked when someone was able to return their sarcastic banter. It kept them on their toes in a way they didn’t always get in conversation.

They waited until both his feet were safely on the ground, maybe even a beat longer, before carefully detangling themself. At his statement, they couldn’t help the bewildered laugh that slipped past their lips. “Oh I did not enjoy my flight, thank you,” they snorted. “I think I should file a complaint with the captain, for being an insufferable smartass.”

Pidge shook their head. “I would say it’s been nice but well, you fucked up my experiment.” They paused, considering, before offering their hand for him to shake. “It could’ve been worse I guess. You were some fun at least. If you ever need help fixing some tech, look me up, Ghost Boy.”

Danny's smirk grew. He crossed his arms and stood with an abundance of cockiness and self assurance. "Your captain is so not sorry."

For all the disaster that was their initial meeting, Pidge didn't seem like a bad person to be around. Actually, they were kind of fun. Even if they acted like an insufferable smartass themselves. Sorta like another techno geek Danny knew. Pidge and Tucker would get along so well. Heck, even Pidge and Sam would be like two peas in a pod.

The comment about messing up Pidge's experiment made Danny frown, sulking a little. How many times did he have to explain that he was just trying to save their life?! Talk about ungrateful. Oh well. At least they didn't hate him. Smiling softly, Danny took their offered hand. "Thanks. I might just take you up on that. Ever need rescue from man eating monsters again, you know who to call."

Kicking off once more into the air, Danny waved goodbye. Not a bad day, all things considered.
