Anyone could tell that Lethe wasn't the kind of place for a lone teenager. The crime capital of the world as they called it. A place filled with all sorts of thugs and downright scary people, and yet Billy thought it'd be a fun vlog to take a month-long tour of the place. To see just how those dropped into this side of the world and the deadliest of criminals within Pandora lived.

Why? Well, Billy never went with asked himself why nowadays. Not since he'd been given freedom to do as he liked after he was taken away from Superman's Regime. So now, being a known vlogger, he decided to do what any sane vlogger would. Something incredibly stupid.

And that was how he landed in this situation. Billy arrived in Lethe not even an hour ago and he now stood in a rather shady alley, with a pair of thugs standing before him. The average person would have feared for their life, but thanks to the courage of Achilles and the might of Zeus just a single word away.

Billy stood his ground, all five foot six inches of him. 'So are you guys some of my fans? Or did I take one too many turns into the wrong neighborhood.' Billy said playfully. The thugs could tell the young boy wasn't taking them seriously, not only from the way he spoke. But from how he stood, his hands still in his hoodie as he leaned against a wall.

'Listen here kid. Either you give us everything including that fancy little camera. Or we gut you like a fish and take it.' One of the thugs said barking at him, pulling out a machete covered in dried blood.

'Let's just kill him and get over with it. Ain't like nobody is gonna care about some dead kid.' The other one said as he too began to pull out a blade. And before Billy knew it he began to slowly move towards him.

This prepped Billy to take a handful of steps backward, readying to say the fateful words that would transform him into something these guys would regret messing with. He just hoped nobody else would be around to see him become Capt Marvel, or he'd be in bigger trouble then he wanted.

Selina ran over rooftops, jumping from place to place with a casual ease that would make trained acrobats jealous. Sometime it was nice, not to run away from anything, or anyone, not to be working, and just to run. She knew the way back to her current squat, like the back of her hand, and she could afford to do this. She wasn't exactly going to get lost. Besides, Lethe and Gotham weren't that different, after all. Here a clandestine drug deal, there a couple of drunks passed out in an alleyway, there two guys robbing a ki-

Selina stopped, just short of falling off the roof. She shouldn't get involved. That would be a mistake. One of them had a machete. It didn't look like a particularly good machete, and he certainly hadn't bothered keeping it clean, which was something that even Selina knew had to do, but it was still a machete.

But it was also a kid, and Selina had a soft spot for kids. He certainly didn't deserve to die. Not for stupidity. It wasn't... fair, Selina supposed. Even if he was acting like an idiot. Seriously, why wasn't he at least trying to run? He certainly didn't look like a fighter, and the machete was longer than his arm. Again, she knew that she should turn her tail and leave. But she knew that she would come back to this alley, and regret it.

    Damn her soft heart.

The machete guy went down first, being Selina's designated landing pad as she jumped down from the roof. The other guy only got a couple of seconds to react before his legs were swept out from under him. These guys weren't even good thugs. They seemed to think that just because they had a knife, they were unstoppable. It was pathetic. People in this city had guns. These guys wouldn't even have lasted a day in Gotham.

Selina stood up from her crouch and brushed dirt off her jacket. "Kid, are you an idiot?" she said harshly. "Honestly, its like you've never spent a day on the streets. When two guys come at you with knives, you run away. Seriously." She shook her head in exasperation. "At least tell me you have a place to stay."

'Idiot?' Billy asked, staring at her confused. 'No I'm just glad I didn't have to do it' He thought to himself still trying to figure out how to reply to his 'savior'. The last thing he'd expected was for someone to drop down onto the pair, taking them down with ease.

And while Capt Marvel could have wiped the floor with this lowly thugs as well as just about anyone. Billy knew he couldn't just let her know that, nor could he act like that. 'I have nowhere to go honestly. I should probably thank you huh.' The young boy said smiling for a moment.

'My names Billy Batson. And as you can tell, I'm not from here.' He extended an arm out to the girl. She seemed like a nice person and while she spoke harshly, she reminded Billy of a few of his friends from back home. And of course he'd probably be as pissed if he ran across a kid like him.

He had what some considered 'idiotic tendencies' and his trip to Lethe didn't do much to disprove that. Billy just hoped it'd get better from this point on. And that he could maybe befriend his 'savior'

"Yeah, idiot," Selina shot back, bending down and rifling through the pockets of the unconscious guys. Nothing of value, really. And considering that this was Lethe, that was saying something. Seriously, there was nothing there. No wonder they were desperate enough to mug a kid. And to kill him, as well. Seriously, every good mugger knew that you didn't murder anyone unless it was strictly necessary. It's like killing your own customers. And killing a kid was a great way to get the guard on your ass. All in all, these guy were just bad at their jobs. "If you have something like that camera you're flaunting, you hide it. Otherwise these guys won't be the last muggers you encounter. You don't look like you belong here, idiot. Go back to Pandopolis."

Maybe he was Tagged. That would explain why he was here. But it didn't make much sense. If he was Tagged, that would mean he'd committed a crime, and he really didn't look like the type. He looked soft. "Seriously?" she said, deadpan, and pinched the bridge of her nose. "...Well, Billy," she continued, ignoring the outstretched hand, "you can call me Cat. And, you know, go back to wherever you came from. This isn't the place for you."

She looked around, and took a breath. "If you really need a place to stay, come with me," she said, before she could stop herself. Well, shit. Selina hadn't exactly wanted a roommate, but she got the distinct feeling that she was going to get one, anyway. Well, he'd have to keep up, first. She'd give him a chance, nothing too hard. But still...

I saved enough for burgers, a quiet voice, from the recesses of her head rose, and Selina quickly repressed the memory. She didn't have time for that. Bruce had made his choice, and she had made hers. Simple enough.

While somewhat aggressive, Billy completely understood where she was coming from. Especially when she mentioned his camera. Usually Billy wouldn't have minded keeping it out, but to prevent people from trying to do what this pair had done. Moving it under his hoodie, leaving only a small portion of its strap showing.

'Oh uh, I'd love to accept that offer.' Billy hadn't excepted her to offer him a place to stay but it was better then sleeping alone on some street. It was likely safer in general if he was with another. Not for himself, as he could deal with just about anything. For Cat, who unlike him likely did have as much abilities as he did.

His trip to Lethe had gotten a bit more interesting. He'd expected to find some trouble here and there but this was a rather nice surprise. But he'd still yet to know this 'Cat' so he began to ask some questions. 'So how long have you been in Lethe?' Was the first one he asked as he prepared to follow the girl.

Even though she seem like the type to not answer personal questions, Billy knew it wouldn't hurt to try. And if he was going to crash at her place, well he'd like to get to know her a bit more.

"Well then" Selina said, moving to the chain-wire fence that marked the end of the alley. "Try and keep up." With those words of warning, Selina pulled herself up and onto the top of the fence, balancing there for a moment, before she ran across it as if it was solid ground. She jumped from the top of the fence onto the rooftop nearby, with the same kind of ease that other people would associate with breathing. She looked back at Billy and perched on the rooftop. "Well? Come on."

She completely ignored his question. It wasn't like he was going to be living with her for longer than a night, anyway. He didn't need to know anything about her, let alone her real name or how long she had been in Pandora. Instead, she started to run, not quickly, but with decent speed, a kind of easy-going pace that she could keep up forever, and had in the past.

Jump here, jump there, turn... well, not left, that route might send him hurtling to death, and she didn't want that, as much as she didn't want company, either. So right, and keep on running. Occasionally, she'd look behind her, just to see if Billy was keeping up.

Watching Selina jump and then run like it was nothing, impressed Billy beyond belief. And the moment she reached the roof he understood just what she planned on doing. While he jumped atop the fence and in a rather unrefined fashion, made his way across it.

All the way to the roof, where he began to follow Selina. To Billy, it reminded him of the tortoise and the hare racing, expect this time the hare wasn't stopping what so ever. Without the Speed of Mercury, he ran at the speed of an average teen, who just happened to not be used to jumping from roof to roof.

'Cat! Do you do this all the...' As he shouted over towards his new friend, Billy stumbled and caught himself after a jump. Within a moment he began to play it off as if it were nothing and proceeded to run slightly embarrassed. 'Do you do this stuff all the time? Cause its badass.' What he hadn't told her was just how tiresome this was for him.

Selina heard the voice, slowing down slightly to hear what Billy was shouting at her. He was keeping up surprisingly well, considering that he seemed to be a normal kid. With a bit of practice, he'd be doing this like a natural, which was.. weird. Maybe she had been wrong in his assumption. He moved like a street kid, like someone who could disappear when he needed to, when he would be better off not being there. It was surprising, and she was a little disappointed in herself for not seeing it.

Or... maybe not. She didn't bother suppressing the laugh that came when she saw him stumbled, though the way he caught himself impressed her more than she let on. "Watch your step," she said, going for another jump. Then she heard his question, and she smiled. "Yeah, basically," she yelled back, and then she stood at the edge of a building, turning her back, and letting herself fall, twisting in midair to land neatly. For Billy, there was a ladder.... if he took the wimpy way. "We're here," she said, opening a small door hidden behind some garbage.

Inside, there was some functional but broken down furniture, including a leaky fridge, and couch/bed, with some ragged blankets and pillows on it. Scattered around the place were... a surprising amount of cats. Like, a lot of cats.

Billy was certain this something he enjoyed. He very much so preferred the simple flying life, he felt as if it was miles easier then this. But he understood that Cat was a pro at this and he couldn't exactly be Shazam at this moment. At least not before ensuring that she was fine with it.

Well maybe not fine, more so wouldn't let everyone know Billy was Capt Marvel. Sure Billy loved showing off his Capt skills, but for now he'd keep it hidden. He was just glad to have a place to stay for the time being.

And honestly speaking, he loved watching Selina do cool moves. Which was pretty evident after her flip off the roof, the teen followed her down, but in the form of a mere jump. Billy would have loved to try a flip, but preferred his face intact. The fall wasn't too bad, Billy landed but nowhere near as graceful as her.

Making his way through the small door surrounded by garbage and into her home. Billy couldn't help but think back to his old place in Philly. But as he continued to take it all in, her pack of cats sent a thought into his mind. One which made him smile as he spoke.

'I'm getting the urge to make the purrfect cat joke right now. But I'm gonna stop myself and think about that bed situation.' He hadn't realized until he spoke that this place only had a single bed. He stopped himself before he made another horrible cat pun about it, but was ready for more if Cat left any openings.

Selina was going to either punch him for that pun, or facepalm. She decided on facepalming, simply because he was out of punching range. She was not prepared for cat puns. Puns were not a thing that happened in Gotham. Screaming, shooting, and hysterics, yes. All the time. Sometimes all at once. Often all at once. But puns were new, and she wasn't sure how she felt about it.

    Exasperation, mostly.

"Make another pun," she said, rolling her eyes, "and you can find yourself a different place to sleep." Selina moved to the couch/bed/place-to-sleep/place-to-lounge and picked up a white, semi-dirty cat. "Come on, Otto," she said, putting the cat on the ground, and leaning back on the wall that the bed/couch/thing was pushed up against. "Out of the way." Her voice was kind, gentle, especially when compared with how she had been talking to Billy. Still, she looked at him, and raised an eyebrow. "If it bothers you that much, I can probably scrounge up another one. You're carrying it, though." If he stayed, it meant that, when he was gone, Selina got another bed-ish thing. If he said no, well, she wasn't going to sleep on the floor.

It didn't take long for Billy deduce that she was clearly a cat person and less of a person person. He should have know the moment she disliked his punny joke. And while he did respect her wish and keep the puns to a minimum, totally not because he wanted a place to stay. He came up with a few others and tucked them away to use at a later date.

Instead putting the focus on the bed couch, as he followed Cat and took a seat beside her. For a moment he sat in silence looking directly forward, weighing on whether or not he'd be willing to drag a bed through the streets the Lethe. And not in the form of Capt Marvel, which of course was a pain.

'So head to toe it is then.' He turned to face her slightly nodding his head. 'I'm for sure gonna need my own blanket though.' Billy knew if he couldn't get a blanket, he could cuddle up with a few of the cats. And boy did this place have more then enough to keep him comfy.

He was certain Cat did that. There was no way she had that cute little cat lover side of hers without cuddling up with a few of them. And boy did Billy find that so darn adorable, nearly enough to bring out the little boy in him. Of course if he mentioned it, he had the feeling he'd end up on her shit list. So he kept it on the down low, for now.

Selina smiled to herself. So he was one of those. She rolled her eyes. "Take your pick," she replied dryly. "There's ragged blanket one, ragged blanket two, blanket full of holes and its sequel, moth-eaten blanket. Oh, and don't forget the prequel, blanket currently in pieces." She didn't know what it was about Lethe, but all of the blankets she managed to scrounge up were terrible. They all fell apart. Shoddy manufacturing, clearly. It was kind of a pain, but it wasn't like she needed them. This was a desert. She had managed to get a pretty damaged but still working fan, though, and it spun quietly in the corner, doing as much as it could.

Most of the cats in her squat were strays. Some, Selina had rescued from being eaten or abused. She was pretty sure that not all of them were normal cats, but she wasn't sure, and she also wasn't game to check. "If you're staying here, you better pull your weight," Selina warned him, though her tone wasn't threatening, just... slightly ominous. Food was hard in Lethe, especially since she couldn't take the risk of the guards seeing her. Luckily, she had a semi-working fridge, so she could store it, but she couldn't keep anything in there for to long. Food poisoning was not fun.

'Hmm, I think the blanket in pieces would suit me best.' He spoke slightly nodding his head. Holding back a smile. Billy knew he should have expected the blanket situation to be in disrepair, mostly due to Lethe, and its hot temperature.

All he could hope for was that her feet didn't end up reek, if they actually did end up sleeping head to toe. Not that he'd be facing towards her feet. Thankfully he didn't have to think too much about it as Cat quickly changed the subject. When she mentioned him having to work, Billy was fine with that.

He honestly expected to work, at least if he planned on staying here long. And whatever was needed to do, Billy was willing to do it. 'I'd expected you'd say something like that. I'm completely fine with doing whatever, might as well help out if you're letting me stay here.'

"Here you go," Selina said, balling up and throwing the blanket at Billy's face. At some point, it may have been blue. Or white. Or a colour that wasn't ugly-greyish-brown, but it wasn't anymore. Selina had found it that way, so she didn't know. The longer that the two teens stayed still, especially Billy, the more the cats began to approach them, starting to climb over them. Selina was still more popular, but Billy was starting to get some tentative nose-presses at his hand.

"Cool," Selina said, off-handedly. "Just distract people while I pick their pockets." Without training, there wasn't much that Billy could do to help her out, but even just tripping and "falling" in front of someone would distract them long enough for her to pick their pockets clean. Plus, if she had an accomplice, she could start stealing from stalls. "Oh, and play interference with the guards." She did not want to get Tagged. She liked being free, to go where she wished. Being tied down, to any place, wasn't her speed.

The blanket was far uglier then he imagined. Certainly there was no way he'd honestly sleep with that thing. But he played if off as if he was fine with it. Placing it on his side as he turned his attention to a few of the cats. One of the smaller ones keep pressing against his hand, as if it wanted to draw his attention.

And it did. Billy who loved all sorts of animals, began to pet the little one. And any of the others who seemed to draw the short stick and wanted his attention. He would have kept focusing on them had Cat not started talking about pick pocketing, which slightly put Billy off. It wasn't like he couldn't tell that she needed anything she could get, given how her home looked and the city she lived in.

It's just that he knew it was wrong. And very much so illegal in Lethe, at least he assumed it was. He very much so didn't want to somehow end up with one of those tags on him, not that he wouldn't go out fighting beforehand. 'I can do that. I'm sure I can talk their minds off if needed. It's just I'm pretty sure all that is illegal. Not that I'm afraid of doing illegal stuff or anything. But I guess I wouldn't be robbing anyone technically.' Billy knew Batman would have deplored his horrific attempt at trying to find some logic in his thoughts, and likely scowled him with that darn stare of his. However, since it seemed the Bats didn't really care much for Batson, things would work out. He hoped.
