@Lady Margolotta 22nd March - let me know if this is a touch too late.

This was the most fascinating confounding place ever. Pandora was a box with rules he was beginning to understand. He already had magi-cores, ones which derived their power from electricity and was hoping to get his hands on their much more powerful counterparts. The fact this place ran on a mix of magic and electricity was a bit mind boggling for the electricity bound scientist but it was just another challenge for him to conquer. He had no doubts he would figure out how to retrofit and design anything he wanted using these little cores. However understanding how magic worked might go along way.

Nikola had been reading the newspaper some five days previous, scouring the news for updates on this strange and brilliant land when he came across an article which was most deflammatory. It caught his attention because it accused the named party of being a vampire. Nikola hadn't really cared for all the supposed wrong doings and such that the article went out to profess. People so did love to abuse and misunderstand his kind to the point where it was quite fantastical in nature. They'd make anything up just to make themselves feel better. Vampire humanoids turning into giant bats? Hello, not physically or physiologically or scientifically possible!

Nikola was pulled from his thoughts by a passer by whipping up a little too close for his tastes. He glanced at the time, his new watch bought just after he arrived firmly around his wrist. Nikola was a lover of fob watches really, and he still had his, but the woman had been so charming and it wasn't always convenient to have to stop to look at the time so he impulsively bought one. Good thing the money here was similar and he had some on him.

Nikola was so in the zone about meeting another vampire, a real life fleshy vampire that he hadn't himself created the wasn't aware that his body felt a little different. The changes had been happening ever since he had reset his watch to the correct time, forward just a few hours, but it was enough. Little did he know back in his own time stream the different a couple of hours could make to him - between still being a sanguine vampiris, or a mortal human.

It hadn't been too difficutl to find out where Margolotta worked, or all that time consuming to charm her assistant into letting him in. Really, he wished that little amount of flattery worked on Helen. Though if he was being honest with himself he'd lose some respect for her if it did, so probably best that it didn't.

He waited impatiently, dotting around the room being nosey for the occupier to return. She probably shouldn't have let him in the poor thing but who could say no to a boyish smile and eyes like sparks? No one, dont' be silly. He just hoped she was as impressive as he had built her up to be.

Who was he kiidding? Of course she'd be! She was a vampire!

A cup of coffee in her hand and a look of utter annoyance on her face, Margolotta walked up the final row of stairs leading to her office. It was going to be another one of those long, stressful days. Somehow it seemed that all her days were long and stressful. As if it wasn’t enough that Blake had escaped his cage and that there were dozens of crazy axe murderers roaming the streets of Pandora, with no-one else to stop them but Margolotta and her agents, now they started digging through her dirty laundry and trying to present her as a bloodthirsty, power-crazy maniac. Perhaps one of the notions was true, but she wasn’t even certain who they were. She had stopped buying newspapers three days after everything had started and she kept her phone off for most of the day. The entire situation annoyed her immensely. Why couldn’t the bloody people just let her do her job in peace? With a sigh, Margolotta pushed her office door open.

She had heard footsteps, of course, coming from the inside, but she didn’t think about it too much. She expected to see Aella there, dealing with the paperwork, piling up the forms that Margolotta was supposed to sign of even answering her phone. The red-haired woman had appeared just in time, it seemed. Her assistance was invaluable during the past few weeks, and Margolotta was grateful to have her around. So, she wasn’t surprised to hear footsteps in her office. She was surprised to see an unfamiliar man in her office, though, the man who most certainly wasn’t her assistant.

Shocked and annoyed, Margolotta asked, with less grace and more poison in her voice than usual, “What are you doing in my office? Who are you?”

OOC: No, no, it's great, no worries <3

Tesla revered vampires so much he failed to see, think or consider their flaws in any manner at all. Vampires were exceedingly clever, elegant, sophisticated and cultured. There was that small blood sucking issue but that could be easily solved with some supplements and animal blood which he, surprisingly, believed in rather firmly (though he let Helen believe that was all her own doing). He never stopped to think that the vampire he had decided to meet could in fact be one of those ones which were a crime to vampirism itself. Death by sunlight was such a cliche way to go.

Aella was kind of cute, Nikola thought. Not usually his type but then no one was his ideal type: blonde, head strong, slender yet curvy, large eyes and an English accent to die for. No one was that. He hated that he had such a specific taste which had lasted more than two life times, probably three by now. But he had been in love before, or at least a pale shadow in comparison for the affection he felt for a certain Sanctuary Head. But still, it had been love, or some form of it, that he could not deny. Of course it had ended badly. It always ends badly.

It turns out he had probably gotten Aella into trouble. The pretty girl with the flames for hair may find herself at the bottom of the pile but Nikola wasn't particularly concerned about her fate. If it was a real issue then surely the girl would have enough sense not to allow herself to be swayed, no matter how plied with charms she may be. And Nikola hadn't tried all that hard, so he discounted that theory pretty quickly.

Nikola was pottering around, just being nosey in general because, why not? when Margolotta clipped her way in. Her tones were even shorter, dragging his attention to her instantly. And wasn't she a vision? Very pale, but then, vampire, but still he was sure she should have some more fleshy tones about her. He wasn't going to complain about a lack of mellonin. Skin colour was just a chemical after all and if she wasn't bracing the sun then she didn't need any at all.

"My you are a delight," he grinned. "I was curious. I've never met one like you before," he stated. He was one, of course, but that didn't count. You couldn't exactly 'meet yourself' not unless he wanted to talk to himself in the mirror and that was just plain crazy.

Had it been another day or maybe another month, Margolotta would have reacted differently. She had been working hard on her image, aimed to present herself as an amiable, kind lady. Gods, she ever wore pink jumpers and pearls! It also meant that her door was open for visitors, with a cup of tea and a bowl of biscuits always ready on her desk.

The last month had been particularly stressful, though. Ever since that terrible ‘F-Society’ published the slanderous information about her (well, technically they weren’t wrong, but it was no-one’s business!), everybody suddenly wanted to talk to her and ask her terribly impolite and far too direct questions. Well, she was used to gossip, she’d been the subject of it for quite a while, but this was something new. Worrying and annoying.

And now there was this man who stood in her office and obviously wanted something from her. He seemed not to have noticed the sharp note in her voice. So, Margolotta folded her arms across her chest and drew herself up to her full height of impressive five foot two. Probably a couple of inches more, courtesy of high heels she was wearing. There was something strange about the way he was looking at her, as though he was an artist or perhaps a collector of rare and valuable pieces. Even his words were most peculiar. I have never met one like you, not someone or anyone. “What are you talking about?” Her voice was cold as ice when she added, “You have two minutes to tell me who you are and what you want from me before you leave.” the smile she directed his way suggested that the leave would most likely be involuntary and might involve two or three men in dark suits.

Nikola was used to stressful days. They happened to him all the time. Stress was something he was used to dealing with. It was like water off a duck's back really. Stress was an illusion your mind created to deter you from success. It was a detractor the weak were inflicted with because they didn't have the balls to go all the way. Nikola thrived under situations which challenged his intellectual thinking. He wasn't interested in doing anything easy, not unless he just wanted to show off and even then, it hardly meant something if he could just do it. It had to be impressive in some way. Of course some people were far easier to impress than others.

Vampires, he was sensing, were particularly difficult to move. He could have know this already since he was A a vampire and B difficult to impress and C not easily moved to compliments or saying 'I'm impressed' but with the lack of data e had had to assume that it could possibly be just him. Now he was with Margo he was getting the sense he had been right in his assumptions. And that was OK. He didn't mind being right about this. It just made the encounter all the more fun. Margolotta would come to love him eventually. She had to. With a face, body and sense of style like that there was no way Tesla was going to just let this go!

So she had been a little abrupt. After spending a life time chasing after one Helen Magnus he was used to the eye rolls and the knock backs. Tesla was pretty blind to the negatives. You don't have an ego the size of the planet and be bothered by things like impolite inquiries. They just made it more of a challenge a he did love a challenge.

"You being a vampire of course," he grinned charmingly. A winning smile was all one needed to get through life, and the day. And he had both a charming and a winning smile. Of course being a vampire helped. And he knew he wasn't what people were expecting - heart beat and a lack of aversion to wood, holy water and garlic and boy could he enjoy those rays eh? - but that didn't detract from the fact he was indeed a monster of the night, as the cliche went.

"It is such an honour to meet you," Nikola said. "I've never met another before....except that one time but those guys were... a complete let down," he commented refering to his failed experiments which happened to be thoughtless tools.

    No really.

    They had no thoughts.

Margolotta was still confused, but she tried to figure out what the man wanted from her. That look on his face still troubled her; it seemed as though he wanted to collect her or something equally bizarre. Once her initial shock subsided, however, she observed him carefully, trying to take in all the details. The man had an unhealthy fascination with vampires -- not that there was anything particularly fascinating about her kind -- but there was nothing that made him different from any other man who had ever tried to charm. Or maybe not...

Her eyebrows were still raised in surprise, but Margolotta managed a small “Thank you.” in response. Another? Another? What a strange thing to say. “Are you also a vampire?” she asked, even more confused than before. While he didn’t smell quite like a human being, she could hear his heartbeats. Besides, it was a surprisingly sunny day and he didn’t even have a jacket on, let alone something that could provide him with protection from the light and heat. Interesting...

Tesla didn't understand why she was so bamboozled by his presence. He was being pretty upfront about why he was here. He was a vampire, she was a vampire and that meant they should have long discussions about things like how much cooler they were than humans. How much smarter and elegant and sophisticated. They should discuss their plans for world domination and whether or not that meant they would be enemies or friends. Preferably friends but he wasn't going to shy away from the need to turn everyone here into a sanguine vampiris.

"Yes," he said, frowning. Was she being serious? Maybe it was because he was a different kind of vampire than she was expecting? He knew that back home he was the only vampire left in existence so she had to be different from him. She was inordinately pale and she was very well covered for someone with a body like that. Maybe she just preferred to be overly modest. He hoped that was the reason. If she was one of those poof into dust vampires he was going to be disappointed.

"Sanguine vampiris, to be precise," he stated for her grinning. "Very rare from where I'm from," he said. He didn't want to say that he was practically extinct since she might completely kill of his race by trying to do him in and he wasn't here for trouble. He was ridiculously difficult to kill of course so if she did decide to give it a go she was in for a shock.

Margolotta was still confused by the man's presence, but she also had to admit that his entrance had style. Not too many people would come to pay her a visit and even less so come to express their... interest? Fascination? She was finding it hard to find the right word, especially since she wasn’t used to people viewing her as... well, a celebrity. That was an entirely new experience.

So, his affliction (or species) had a Latatian name. Very scientifically sounding. But come to think of it, anything that had a Latatian name had a very scientific sound to it. The way people perceived different languages had never ceased to amaze her.

“Really?” she asked. Vampires were notoriously hard to kill, but maybe someone had figured out a way. Or maybe the man just came from a vampire-unfriendly climate. There weren’t too many vampires in Klatch or Genua, were there? “Why is that so?” she wanted to know.

Nikola found going straight for the point was the best way. Why beat around the bush when you both wanted something? He wanted to know she was adored, by him of course, and she wanted to know why he was here. Because she is a vampire. It was very simple really. Honestly, Helen would be fainting at the fact he was being so...forthcoming. Or she would be rolling her eyes. This was, after all, a vampire and he had never been known to resist those.

Well he wouldn't be, if he'd ever met another one.

Being the last of his kind really sucked sometimes. He was pretty darn lonely too. He only had Helen for company and she shied away from him like he was going to eat her. Which just wasn't fair. He'd never do that. Sure he'd threatened to kill her a couple of times but she had made him really really mad and she had shot him more than a dozen times over the years! Some of this suits had been Armani, and new!

"Oh you know. Rebellion uprisings tend to happen among oppressed species," he replied casually. "The humans didn't much appreciate being held as slaves," Tesla gave her a sly little grin. He didn't have much against the human race - just that they killed off his kind. And the human in him could understand. As well as the vampire to be honest. He didn't like to be held down either. But still, that was genocide. It hurt that it was the one species Helen didn't frown upon its complete destruction. And she should! Was life not life?

"Of course the dark ages came immediately after. Without the vampires around to keep the ball rolling humanity completely regressed," he supplied. "They still haven't fully recovered,"

Margolotta came from a place that basically exported vampires to other parts of the Disc. Luckily for them and all the other creatures, vampires weren’t particularly sociable creatures, so they, in most cases, lived alone in a castle overlooking a nearby town or a county. And that was densely populated, for vampiric standards. Egotistic, unpleasant and uncompromising, vampires wouldn’t work well if they lived in large groups. However, stating so openly that vampires were rare in one’s world, attracted Margolotta’s attention. It was easy to say that you needed nobody when there was somebody you could tell that to. It would probably be a terrible thing to know that you were one of the last of your kind.

“Yes, I can understand that. My word, how inconsiderate of them.” she said. She hoped that the other vampire wouldn’t notice her sarcasm. Or perhaps she didn’t. He just seemed so enthusiastic and Margolotta didn’t want to ruin his mood. Well, centuries ago, they’d had slaves in the Unholy Empire; Margolotta had only been a young girl in those times, but she remembered them all too well. They hadn’t enslaved humans, but orcs. Yet, for centuries humans of Uberwald had been little more than slaves, a source of nutrition for vampires and werewolves alike. Well, she had every right to feel personally responsible for ending it, but it still left a bitter taste in her mouth...

“Interesting.” Margolotta said. “In my experience, the dark age ended when vampires and humans learned to live together. Along with werewolves, dwarfs, trolls... but you get my point.” she smiled. "So, you believe humans can't take care of themselves without our help?"

Tesla didn't notice. He wasnt' so much concentrating on the 'food source' part, which while he wanted to indulge, found oddly distasteful at the same time. There was no reason to kill a human, and the vampires knew that. They would keep the same humans as...companions, or thralls - usually for most of their lives. Vampires didn't need much to survive and by the time they needed to feed the human would have recovered. The higher up the vampire you served the better you were treated of course. For many it was an honour. Of course there were too many vampires for everyone to be high up and the lower the vampire the more likley you were to be abused. It was just unnecessary, thought Nikola.

"quite," he agreed. "Without vampires humans have stagnated, regressed vastly. The world still pales in comparison to the times vampires were in control," he lamented. The thing about Tesla was he was very ego-centric and above all adored discovery. Discovery made the world go around and it made his heart light up. Unless Helen had graced him with a smile instead of a frown (which wasn't that often).

"Oh they can. Just not very well and very slowly," Tesla replied. To think humans couldn't be formidable? Well he'd have to pretend he hadn't met Helen Magnus or John Druitt in that case. They were fierce individuals though he wasn't entirely sure classing them as human was right anymore.

"Ha!" Tesla crowed. "In your world maybe. The'd have a fit in mine. Probably kill them all. Or at least they'd try. Not everyone is so easily removed," he grinned cheekily.

Gods, the self-proclaimed vampire really didn’t notice her sarcasm, or at least that was how she interpreted his casual agreeing with her. Vampires lived longer than humans, that was a given, but unfortunately Margolotta had yet to meet a vampire who learned from their mistakes without ever doing something foolish again. She had mostly overcome that silly, but innate feature of her kind. Vampires were, by nature, trapped in a web of their own making, always doing the same thing and never changing. Given their considerably shorter experience, humans were, compared to vampires, less guilty of that flaw.

Margolotta looked at the man with her eyes widened and a look of mild disbelief on her face. Gods help us all if vampires should ever gain control over any world, she thought. The man confused her greatly and, she had to admit, amused her mildly. Arching an eyebrow she asked: “So, do you think that vampires should rule Pandora?” Just imagine that idea; disbanding the council and... doing what exactly? Creating a new one, consisting entirely of vampires? That would be an interesting development, that was certain, but not a highly desired one. “I don’t really see that happening in practice, but it would be an interesting government model, strictly theoretically.”

Nikola held vampires in such high regard and with such rose tinted blinkers that it would take a vampire threatening Helen to make him see the truth. Later in his timeline, he would fail to see that he held all the qualities he despised in Afina. It would settle him, but as yet he was not as learned as his future self. He still possessed the idolisation of his species, a product of a profound loneliness. Without Helen he had to have something else to fall in love with and unconsciously substituted her with a rather unhealthy fascination with his forefathers. Unlike Margolotta he had yet to overcome the tendency to repeat the same thing over again but in vastly different permutations. This was not a flaw of his being a vampire, but of being a man for Tesla had always been persistent to the extreme. For example, Helen Magnus had knocked him back several hundred times already and yet after a century still made polite yet flirtatious passes.

”Are they all geniuses?” he asked. It was an important question to him. His vampires were brilliant, exalted, revered, fascinating. But he was aware even now that she was different to him. He had heard whisperings of demons and other creatures he had not thought possible. ”We could have it all: progress, discovery, innovation. Not oppression, stagnation, reversion and misunderstandings of ridiculous proportions,” he said. That he was deluded never crossed his mind. His aspirations were big but he never actually expected to get anywhere. Helen always stepped in and stopped him. He kind of relied on her to keep him on the ground. Truthfully if he really wanted to take over she’d never notice until it’d already happened.

”Well, elections would be required of course. I was never fond of fascism. Or communism. Doesn’t work. But vampires are the best choice for forward thinking,” Nikola said, now deciding to see how far he could go before he was kicked out. For some strange reason she wasn’t as interested in it as he was, which was just silly what with her being a vampire. Maybe she was defective.

“I beg your pardon?” Margolotta asked, arching an eyebrow. She was confused. He was probably referring to vampires, who were, she had to admit, far from being geniuses. Generally, of course. She knew, without false modestly, that she herself was highly intelligent, but the rest of her kind didn’t exactly share that trait. Margolotta shook her head, eyeing him suspiciously. He couldn’t have been more wrong. Margolotta actually let out a small laughter, high and genuine.

“My dear sir, you can’t possibly think that vampires would be able to overcome misunderstanding and live harmoniously without oppressing anybody.”
A hand on her hip and a look of strange amusement on her face, Margolotta stared at the man. “You are terribly mistaken. I lived in the world where vampires reigned and it was a ghastly place, an unholy place.” There was a reason, after all, that they called in the Unholy Empire. She sighed.

“Have you ever seen two vampires agree about anything?”

She raised her chin and looked up at him, challenging, demanding that he should give her an example. Vampires were notoriously hard to work with, unreliable and selfish. And she knew that, better than anyone, for she was one of them.

He wasn't entirely sure what the issue was. Surely Vampires were smarter than humans? Superior genetics tended to win over everything else. Vampires were the best thing ever and she should know this what with being a vampire herself. Yes his acquaintance was determined this was not true. Sacrilege really.

What was her problem? With dome rehabilitation and grim determination you could do anything you wanted. People were only limited by their own imagination which unfortunately tended to be inside the box rather than out. It was like playing it safe was the only way to live which was just shortsighted and pathetic. “why not? Humans go against their nature all the time,” he pointed out. “No one ever complains with the same vehemence,” Tesla was unhappy about this. Why was an action by an abnormal treated as so much worse than if a human had done it? Talk about double standards.

“Yes,” he replied. “I have,” Nikola had indeed seen at several vampires agree with each other. Just because that agreement happened to be about world domination didn't matter as this was not what she asked. Had they agreed? Yes they had.
