Scorpius may have been happy with his position in Hydra but he was still looking for other opportunities, both to bring new ideas to Hydra's R&D and for his own, personal projects. He enjoyed winter as much as he enjoyed frozen planets, they kept his body from overheating as easily. It saved him cooling rods, although Hydras labs had allowed him to make himself quite the supply for them. But this Starsx lab was quite the opportunity, technology at his disposal all new and being tested it would be so sweet an opportunity, and all he needed was a way in, so he decided to get a meeting with the head This lord Vader seemed to be the type of person he could speak with, he walked into the lab and sat down in a chair, one leg crossed over the other and his eyes flicking to the receptionist, wanting to just get to his meeting and make his pitch. He had come with a couple simple designs of power sources from Peacekeeper warships that he'd memorized, including his Wormhole riders, although those had obviously been imperfect, since he the pilots were reduced to liquid when they entered the wormholes. He just needed to show he was well versed in these types of technology and then he'd have his access if it impressed. And he had his reasons to think it would, not because of ego alone, but because his technology had kept him in high positions in the Peacekeepers for years.

Finally when he got the cue he moved into the room set up for the meeting with his small touch pad he had the blueprints in and set it down on the table. He took a seat and looked at the man he'd been sent to meet, such a life support system was quite different from Scorpius' system. "Well Vader, I am here to show you a couple of designs and hope to see if I can be of use to your projects here."

The position Vader elected to foist upon himself meant he could not dole out capital punishment as freely as his circumstances under the Emperor allowed. An inconvenience he had long since come to terms with, and all that pent up energy was better spent vigorously excavating the cosmos instead. If nothing else at all, his StarsX work had a better chance at proving moderately useful than playing nanny to a town of dramatically raucous monkeys.

Scientific inquiry and exploration had become the thing which kept him sane as more and more of these endless, repetitive months flew by. Who would have thought.

He watched him sit in silence, for a second or two. "...Scorpius." What an appropriately bleak name for an appropriately bleak... individual. A member of a near-human species, but clearly not human. He liked the creature already, as much as Vader could express a liking for anything in lieu of fanciful notions like friendliness and trust. They were situated in what indeed appeared to be a laboratory rather than a more mundane conference room, holographic projectors and odd pieces of engineering equipment ready to enhance the scientist's demonstrations, if need be. Apart from the table and chair, the lab was strewn with them.

There was a chaos about the arrangement, but he understood the best of minds took no issue to creating artworks out of nothing more than scraps.

And as always, Vader stood. Aside from meditations he never took a seat unless he was lacking in all other alternatives. His mask fell over the touch pad as he calibrated the projector to connect with its design. "Very well, proceed."

Scorpius was eager to begin his experiments and he started to tap his touch pad to bring up the first design on the projector. On the projector was a design for one of the Peacekeeper Marauder designed, with their deep space abilities and their pulse based blasting systems made to take out the engines of a ship as well as it's docking clamp system designed to forcefully board a large ship such as a civilian transport. The advanced life support systems and energy shielding he had thought would protect the rider during wormhole travel. Although of course there was still the same issues that had long since plagued it, and without John's knowledge he couldn't even open a wormhole, all the data he had gained was wiped in his own damn Aurora Chair! He grimaced at that thought but quickly regained his composure and cleared his throat. "These plans come from my home dimension, I was head scientist and weapons developer for the Sebbecean Peacekeepers, the military governing body of the Sebbecean society. We brought order to the star system through strict laws of crime, punishment and pure Sebbecean blooded soldiers....with of course my own exception."

He walked over to the projector. "Our Marauders are high speed interception and combat ships, they are easily capable of outrunning much larger ships and can transport a single crewmen for six cycles at least before refueling is necessary. They are of course capable of in atmosphere transport as well." They were nothing compared to his flagship though, it had been specially made for it's purposes but of course Crichton and his friends had destroyed it with their dishonored commander.

Clearly the alien was passionate about his designs, which came with its own advantages and disadvantages. Who was he to judge but for how useful that passion would be? The contribution of those sparse few already accustomed to space travel was never unwelcome, but many of those did not seem to immediately understand the context of this microscopic world's nascent infrastructure compared to those of galaxy-spanning civilizations.

"We have many methods of surpassing lightspeed and optimizing fuel; let us not reinvent the wheel." From what he could see, the Marauders were elegant but not groundbreaking. They were engineered comfortably within some comfort zone of an comfortable spacefaring society, where Pandora was a place utterly bereft of things like comfort zones.

But he was not blind enough to miss that Scorpius was something of an genius; his structural knowledge of the Marauders sufficed to establish this if nothing else, and he had all the unsettling tics of a stereotypical one, and so he knew he would be remiss if he approached this in a way that was without paying certain respects.

He spread a cybernetic arm, gesturing the room about him. "This laboratory is strewn with components and parts. Perhaps you can think of it as a blank canvas. You will have the allotted time of our appointment to improve upon an idea or make something new of them; I trust you will not disappoint."

Vader's tone had been entirely conversational throughout their brief interaction thus far, as was the slight tip of his head before he began taking his leave of the chamber.

Scorpius was disappointed that his research was mostly underwhelming but was glad Vader did not seemingly write off all of Scorpius' obvious intellect just because he had no use of his particular examples. Still that left him with the issue of what he could exactly make to impress his interviewer. He nodded at Vader and looked at the time, that was plenty more than he needed to truly get through this interview. As soon as he was alone he got to work. He used his blueprints as a framework and started to add on from there. For the first hour he paid attention only to the ships but after a while he realized that was less important than other faculties he could put his mind to. Soon it became about long term projects, bases in the stars, space stations but what exactly he could do there, he was unsure. And he stayed unsure even as he started building he miniaturized propulsion systems, of course he didn't intend to make a full size station, that would take too much time but he just had to prove his technology was feasible.

Using tech he knew from his time in the Peacekeepers and other tech he'd stolen to use in Hydra he was able to think of something, exploration ships that could form into a miniature base. He made them small, models really, but functional versions. After some tweaking he was able to get them to connect similar to two ships docking and keeping the pressurized atmospheres of each ship at a stable level and when it was complete he had a small, about the size of a medium sized shipping crate, base floating about a six feet off the floor before him, fully pressurized and with a stable flow of power from each individual generator being fed through one main nexus contained in the main control ship that contained the main bridge of the station. The insides besides the necessary functions were hollow, any living quarters or hallways and such would be unnecessary details that would serve no purpose on how the station actually preformed it's duty.

He returned in silence after the allotted time, all sweeping cloaks and a conspicuous lack of announcement or fanfare, and uncharacteristically uncertain of what to expect. The uncertainty made him wary in turn, like a niggling along the length of his spine. His absence from the lab room naturally didn't translate to his awaiting idly the whole while, but the Scorpius situation did linger in the back if not the forefront of his mind. The alien, the man, was obviously talented and eager to present himself as such. And as he studied the miniature station, a technical marvel of its own right, he knew he had no need to look further for a more competent scientist.

"... You've created a self-contained pressurized system." He moved pieces of the model away from the main base with a gesture of his hand, and found with brow-raising surprise that their internals were still in tact. "Your gift is most impressive; of that that there is no doubt." Vader never praised as much as made factual observations. The niggling was still there, one that he couldn't shake. It wouldn't be a problem if he could still transparently (or opaquely, didn't matter) menace those he mistrusted (everyone) into submission, but that was no longer the case and hadn't been the case for a while. No, now he had to choose carefully which he should conduct with fear and which he should regard with a veil of respect.

Starting off with the latter generally gave him more room for movement, going forward.

So he stood straight and sounded off dispassionately, albeit not without interest, "We would be remiss to dismiss your talents, and I am sure you will find our environment just as rewarding." The front of his mask was expressionless as always, but Vader tried to peer deeper, searching for signs of subterfuge or clues to future betrayal to the best of his ability and without making too obvious the probe. "I trust there is no conflict of interest with your other responsibilities?"

Thus far, he did not have to resort to attempted murder as a way to resolve issues pertaining to StarsX. He was actually fairly eager to maintain that.

Scorpius was not one to crave praise, he was well aware of his achievements and didn't need idle compliments. But he was glad that he had impressed and had gotten his way into the project which would definitely put him near some more advanced technology that could be put to use for his and Hydra's purposes. With a small smile he bowed his head and half bowed at the waist. "I'm glad I could impress you Vader." Scorpius could feel something probing at his grey matter, although his training under the master had left him with some innate defenses from those who would try to probe his brain. Some dark impulses always escaped but he knew that unless Vader wished to make his probe obvious he'd only be scratching the surface. "No conflicts of interest to my knowledge, I am personally invested in seeing a project like this succeed as planned." Why he was personally invested? Those were his own reasons, Space was unclaimed territory and if Hydra got a stake there. Who could stop them through the power of law?

"I am eager to enlarge that prototype to a full station and shuttles."

Though his mind probe encountered some invisible resistance to his displeasure, it did not take knowledge of one's life history to detect whether they were reliable. It did not take a second look at Scorpius to catch the hint that he wasn't the most upstanding denizen of whichever galaxy he had sprung from. As for what Vader's own perception informed him, Scorpius could be reliable to the ends that would benefit himself- and by extension, them both for a time.

"Surely a man of your talent has embarked on more than one undertaking," he pressed, watching again for cues. It was a last ditch effort and whim of an attempt at divining a little more before he continued, splaying out his cybernetic palm to the interviewee. "And if so, they need not compromise another. Are we agreed?"

Scorpius nodded, Hydra was a priority this was a personal project and it would not interfere directly. Perhaps he'd repurpose some things now and then but he wouldn't risk the shut down of such a treasure trove of ideas. The half breed knew he was playing a dangerous game, if it even appeared to Ward that he was planning on cutting and running from Hydra, which he wasn't he knew his life was at risk, while he knew he was physically superior to him in body strength he knew he could not outgun or out skill Grant Ward in a fight. And Hydra offered more opportunity and protection than he would receive on his own. He had also grown quite fond of Homewrecker the giant snake Viper had left him in charge of. He walked over to his model and looked it over, thinking how easy bases could be made with the large scale models of it.Scorpius looked back to Vader, his intimidating future employer was not one he wanted to cross.

"Do not worry any project outside of this have no direct links to the technology of this project."

Vader reflected for a moment. He did not consider himself as being particularly possessive over the ... organization. Its ultimate purpose needn't be shrouded in secrecy, the need for discretion only paramount for certain peripheral objectives which may or may not come to fruition. At worst, taking on Scorpius might lead to similar technologies cropping up elsewhere, and he did not believe deliberate sabotage would be a concern here. In the meanwhile, the alien's mind and skill seemed well worth the risk.

    So his conclusion was made.

"Very good," conceded Vader. "My aids will arrange for your initial security clearance to be established, with the potential for advancement the more situated you are with your duties." The more he proved himself trustworthy. "You will be informed of your projects shortly. Your input, of course, is welcome at any stage, and I trust the compensation package will more than satisfy. If that is all, Scorpius." He inclined his helmeted head to the exit.
