    "Here kitty kitty..."

Ayano had found herself in a peculiar position. While on a walk through town, she found herself being stalked, again. This time, however, it was just a harmless little black kitten who was after her. Why? She had no idea. She wasn't carrying any food with her or anything, so there was no reason for it to be interested in her. Still, it seemed to take a liking to her and started following her through the street and now she had to deal with it.

However, as soon as she turned around to look at the kitten, it would get scared and retreat somewhere. Under a car, a hole in a wall, wherever it possibly could hide at the time. After about the third time that happened, Ayano attempted to lure it out. It had gone into hiding in an alley this time, since there was nowhere else for it to go, so this left Ayano in a better position to get it to willing come to her.

She was crouched down at the entrance of the alley, waving a feather she had found lying around as a makeshift toy since she didn't have anything else on hand. The cat was a fair distance away, looking hesitant, but its eyes followed the movements of the feather like it was in a trance, getting its attention and making it slowly unable to resist its urges and begin stepping closer.

"Here kitty kitty..." Ayano repeated in a soft, gentle voice. She didn't know if doing that really did anything, but it wasn't like she had a lot of options at the moment.

Business as a mechanic was built on people having things they needed fixed and deciding to give you a shot over any of the many other mechanics in the area. Being relatively new to Pandora, this, unfortunately, meant that work could be pretty slow sometimes for Robin. She'd often spend whole days just walking around town aimlessly. Not her preferred past time, but she didn't really have many friends yet either... and the friends she did have tended to be busy for a lot of the day.

And aimless wandering had brought her past a certain alley while a cat luring attempt was in full swing. From her point of view, all Robin could see was a girl that looked to be around her age crouched down and looking at something. The mechanic couldn't hear what she was saying, but it definitely looked like the girl was engrossed.

Curious, Robin walked over to try seeing what she was looking at. After getting a bit closer, she could see a little cat the opposite color of the first cat she ever saw. Seemed like she was trying to get the cat to come closer? It was kind of cute, whatever she was doing.

She would have watched quietly, the same way that she tended to do everything, but her natural clumsiness would have something to say about that. She turned a tiny bit to try getting a better view of the cat, and in the process accidentally smacked the giant wrench on her back into the wall of the building the made up the right wall of the alley. A loud sound of metal colliding with brick rang out.

Robin froze up, hoping she didn't scare the kitty away from the girl. Would be just her luck with how unhelpful a human being she seemed to be nowadays, though.

Ayano was too distracted by the kitten to even notice anybody approaching, so when there was a loud metal clank, she jumped just as much as the kitten did. She glanced at the person responsible for the briefest of moments before noticing that the kitten had begun running off, prompting her to quickly stand back up.

"Ah! Come back!" She yelled out as she began running into the alleyway after it.

That was probably not the best course of action towards a frightened baby, but it wasn't like she had a lot when it came to options, especially right now.

Oh dear, she really had messed things up... again! Couldn't just keep her nose out of other people's business, could she? The cat would have probably already have been caught if she didn't check what was going on. Seemed like the world just loved telling her that doing anything would cause problems to arise.

Still, the damage had already been done. There were two options she had, walk away or try helping the girl as a form of apology. And while a small part of the mechanic's head told her she probably would mess things up even more if she helped, it just wasn't in her nature to leave problems be. In other words, she'd do her best to help!

Speaking from a purely pragmatic standpoint, Robin could simply shoot the kitten. Her stun gun was tuned ever so carefully so that it was literally incapable of injuring a living being, making it ideal in situations like this, but it really wasn't a good idea. Though she was confident that there would be zero risk to the kitten if she stunned it, explaining that after the fact would be an ordeal what with her speech issues. It really wasn't worth all that hassle to put a harmless knockout as her first option... and with her track record, she wasn't so sure about the zero risk part either.

So her decision was to instead get herself ahead of the kitten. Surrounding it would work well probably, right? Robin pulled her wrench off of her back and started chasing the girl and cat down the alley. Obviously it would be quite a feat to manage to get in front of the cat just by running at this point, but the mechanic wasn't planning on simply running for it. She jumped up in the air and latched her wrench onto a horizontal pipe running between the two sides of the alley, before using her momentum to swing off of it and gain more distance than if she had simply used her own two legs.

Latching her wrench onto another conveniently located spot, this time the bottom rung of a fire escape's ladder, Robin seamlessly transitioned into another swing. Despite her self doubt, one thing she was certain she could rely on was her ability to traverse any environment with the assistance of her wrench. All the swinging ended up landing her right in front of the kitten.

She'd try to grab it at this point in time. If not... well, hopefully she wouldn't mess this up. Anymore failures and she'd probably end up using the stungun.

Ayano briefly came to a spot as she witnessed the girl from earlier just fly past her as if she had been swinging on vines in a forest. She moved far quicker than Ayano could ever hope for that way and ended up in front of the kitten in no time, who ran right into her, making himself very easy to catch, especially now that he was surrounded.

Making her way over, Ayano stared at the girl with wide-eyed wonder. "Whoa, how did you do that?!" She asked in her awe.

Well, she had grabbed onto the kitten at least. That was good, as it meant Robin wouldn't need to knock the animal out and go through the torturous experience of explaining it was alright and just unconscious. Still, the mechanic wasn't looking forward to what was going to happen next.

Sure enough, the girl was walking towards her, no doubt wanting answers. But the question that came out of her mouth wasn't what she expected. "You're... not mad?" she asked in disbelief. That cat would have already been grabbed a minute ago if it hadn't been scared off! This was just her attempt to make up for that clumsy mistake, yet she had ended up impressing instead of angering?

Still... she had asked a question. Wouldn't be polite to not answer it. "Good with my wrench," Robin explained shyly. "Can get places fast by swinging with it. Not that special..." If she had a hand free, she'd be sheepishly rubbing the back of her head. She consoled herself with the nice feeling of the cute cat in her arms. Not as good as her darling Oedipuss back at her apartment, but still a real cutie.

Despite her impressive feat just moments ago, the girl was actually pretty shy. It was a pretty big contrast, going from swinging around using only a giant wrench (which looked like something right out of some cartoon) to then just meekly explaining herself.

"What are you talking about?! That was incredible!" Ayano beamed, throughly impressed by the display. Even if it was something fairly small, especially for a place like Pandora, it didn't make it any less of a sight. She then shook her head, remembering the initial question. "These things happen. It's not like you meant to do it."

The kitten then seemed to be trying to struggle free of the girl's hold. Ayano stepped a little closer to him and then he began looking at her, already beginning to look a little calmer.

"Can I hold him?" She asked gently

Getting genuinely praised was not something Robin was used to. Generally, her successes were either met with indifference or blind praise just because it was her and not because of what she did. It felt both nice and uncomfortable.

"I just practiced a lot..." she said awkwardly, still trying to brush it off. "Any mechanic worth their ivory could do it." That was a complete falsehood. There were reasons being a mechanic was considered one of the most holy and revered jobs back home, and one of those reasons was that it required excellence in mind and body to do properly in that environment. That she had been self-taught in the trade and was still better than all the traditionally trained mechanics was a testament to her talent.

Robin was happy that the girl wasn't holding it against her. But it still didn't make her feel much better about it. "I guess... happens a lot to me, though," she muttered, sounding a bit upset. Her problem solving personality made it very difficult to just let go of any slip ups she made.

Oh... right, she had caught the cat in the first place so that it could be handed over. "Sorry!" the mechanic exclaimed worriedly, not wanting to seem possessive of the kitten or anything like that. She held out the animal for Ayano to take. "Likes you more than me, I think... I already have my Oedipuss anyways." Yeah, her little wall-eyed furball loved her unconditionally. She didn't need this cat's complete approval!

"The mechanics in your world sure are something else!" Ayano grinned, taken fully by the lie as she sincerely thought that mechanics who were required to be able to do that kind of acrobatics must have been really cool people.

Ayano then took the kitten from her hands and cradled him in his arms. He was quiet, looking up at him with an expression that she could only describe as confused, if a bit afraid. She began petting him and he grew more comfortable little by little.

"I've always loved cats." Ayano told her as if that by itself would explain why the kitten liked her more. "My name is Ayano, by the way. It's nice to meet you!"

"Uh... yeah, they're cool..." Robin agreed lamely, sounding incredibly unconvincing. Aside from her dad, she really held no respect for any "legal" mechanics. She always held herself above those who had been assigned the job rather than choosing it. "Don't let just anyone work with their 'holy' machinery after all." Maybe a tiny bit of venom entered her voice there, but she couldn't help it!

It was kind of annoying that the cat liked Ayano more, but she knew deep down that cats were fickle creatures whose opinions should not be taken personally. "Only liked them for three months... when I saw one for the first time..." she replied.

Gosh, this was awkward. Robin hadn't spoken to another girl her age since Mina, and talking with Mina was more like letting her talk and occasionally nodding your own head to agree. This was a conversation that wasn't entirely one-sided! That was kind of new. "Robin... That's me," the mechanic introduced herself, far less confidence in her words than a simple introduction should have. "Nice meeting you."

Ayano was briefly distracted by the kitten, petting him with a relaxed smile on her face, though she soon looked up at Robin with an eyebrow raised, her curiosity piqued. "Holy machinery...?" She echoed, noticing that they're a level of bitterness in her voice that induced both curiosity and concern in her.

Her name was Robin, a cute name! She still acted very shy, but Ayano was trying her best to not be overwhelming, although her curiosity could sometimes get in the way. She couldn't help but ask about things that got her interest, even if it might came across as a bit nosy.

"Three months? Is that how long you have been in Pandora?" She asked, wondering how someone could live for as long as they did without ever seeing a cat.

Robin mentally kicked herself for being unable to keep her issues from poisoning conversations. For someone so poor at talking, she really had an awful filter for what she said. "Well... not the machinery," she corrected herself, hoping to just give a satisfying answer that wouldn't lead to once again spilling her entire life story. "'Ivory fuel should not be touched by improper hands' is what's said. And ivory powered everything...".

She had chosen not to mention that her hands were some of the most improper to have ever messed with the fuel. Not her fault that the One Concern didn't send enough official mechanics to fix their problems. If they wouldn't have kept everything running than they shouldn't have gotten so upset at being upstaged by one teenager.

A more comfortable topic was how long she had been in Pandora. That was something that had only a little baggage attached, and that was only if she asked about the circumstances of her arrival! "More than three months," the mechanic explained. "Bit more... almost four? Saw a cat for the first time... before Pandora. Few hours before." That was verging on uncomfortable territory.

Ivory? That sounded familiar, but Ayano couldn't remember exactly what it was. Still, what could be so holy about it that people aren't allowed to touch it unless they were mechanics? If it powered all the machines, wouldn't people end up in contact with it at some point? That whole thing sounded really odd and maybe it was better to not ask more about it. Instead, Ayano just nodded in fake understanding.

"Wow, I've only been here for like a month in a half."
Ayano was impressed, but she knew people who had been around Pandora for longer, like Kazuo and Scott. "Are you liking it here?"

Ayano knew that with the wide array of people in Pandora, some of them might not find Pandora a very good place to live in, while for someone like her, it was better than the alternative. Opinions can change overtime too, so this was really just a different of asking how Robin was doing.

While Robin was annoyed at herself for even mentioning ivory, as she already knew it had a very different definition in other world's, it luckily didn't lead to further questions. She couldn't tell whether Ayano stopped pursuing this topic because she picked up on Robin's discomfort or just because she didn't care. It was a good thing either way, though.

Month and a half was not that long. And even so, Ayano seemed perfectly comfortable with herself here. Robin couldn't say the same for herself. "...Was hard for a while..." The mechanic responded slowly, having trouble articulating it. "Very different from home... Which is nice. But also lonely."

"But I've started getting some friends... New friends..." She added. They really were just all new friends to her. Couldn't just let go of her old ones, even if they were both worlds apart and in different states of being alive. "Better now. Better than home, that's what matters."

Ayano wasn't surprised by the fact Robin felt lonely, given the way she was so meek and bashful, but that didn't stop her from feeling pity for her. Although she mentioned that she had been making new friends, which brought Ayano some relief. She really didn't like seeing other people being alone, not after she had seen with her own siblings.

"Well, if you want, we could be friends too." She offered wiith a warm smile as one hand kept idly petting the relaxed kitten cradled in her arms.

Was she using up all her luck right now? Was that what Robin had been doing this month? Because she had, after months of a lonely life in Pandora Town just surviving and occasionally doing something to break the monotony of her routine, made four friends in the span of the last two weeks. And none of them were met in a life or death situation, which only made them that more unique to her.

"I'd... like that," she responded after several seconds, a genuine smile on her face. Even if her words didn't express it well, her body language and expressions made it clear how she felt on the matter. "Um... I live at Westley Park Apartments... in Tavoie. Stop by if you need anything fixed... or just to talk, if you'd want that."

Robin shifted uncomfortably, having expended a lot of effort speaking already. This wasn't how she expected her day to go. A surprise, but a welcome one. A new friend was nice, bonus points for being a girl her age.

Ayano had managed to get a smile, a genuine one, out of Robin and that by itself made the offer worth it. She was still timid, but Ayano could tell that she really was happy to find another friend. Still, she seemed like she was still a little uncomfortable. Maybe she just needed some time for herself and they did end up talking about some topics that Robin was probably not fond of. Sounded like a good time for a "see you later".

"I live at Selva Vista, in Westcourt, drop by whenever you want!" She offered in return, still smiling warmly. Her eyes then fell upon the kitten in her arms. "I should go bring this little guy here home. He seems to like me so... I might as well take him in, I guess." She grinned with enthusiasm. "We can talk more some other time, maybe?"

With time, maybe Ayano could get Robin out of her shell a little more. Make her feel comfortable enough to be able to speak without fear. Ayano herself could often trip on her words depending on the situation and she could be pretty awkward, but she wasn't usually afraid of saying what was in her mind... usually. There were things she was never able to say before even though she wanted to and, maybe, she could help Robin not have to go through that, at least, not in Pandora.

All in all, today had been a really good day. And this had brought her friend count back up to where it was before she was forcibly separated from all of her old ones! Not that replacing them felt like the right word, because they were irreplaceable in her eyes, but still!

"One second!" she exclaimed a bit more eagerly than she intended before Ayano left. Robin quickly pulled out a piece of paper and pen from one of her pockets, a precaution she kept around in case of one of her more serious episodes of selective muteness, and scribbled something down before giving the paper to Ayano. "Number! Call me whenever."

Sure she had an address, but she'd rather give her contact information. After all the trouble her other friend was with having no way to find him or contact him, she figured it was better safe than sorry. "Take good care of him," she said casually, before turning to walk away. "Nice meeting you... stay safe." She had her own cat to worry about right now. Oedipuss wasn't going to feed himself.

Robin would hurry the rest of the way home.
