    Life in Pandora

Pandora has built a rich history over the past several years since its existence, having endured hardships and welcomed miracles. Although the world itself is in an ever-shifting state—you might wake up one morning to find the small pawn shop across the street gone, or discover that an otherwise empty space out in the wilderness is now occupied by a cheerful-looking cottage—most of the high population areas are stationary. For this reason, as well as due to the number of events that have taken place in Pandora, chronicling its history and lore is essential for longtime residents and newcomers alike.

    Arrival and Departure

By this time, people have grown used to the random arrival and disappearance of people in Pandora. Some people are witnessed to arrive, dropped out of what appears to be a black portal, occasionally with black vines still sticking to them. People will vanish from Pandora in much the same way they are dragged in. If these people reappear at a later point, they have no memory of their prior experiences in Pandora. Again, this is considered common knowledge and normal in Pandora.

New arrivals are often led to the Shelter in Pandora Town that helps get these people situated. They’re given help in finding their own home and work and the start of a new life in Pandora. Those who appear out in the wilderness are on their own. Those who appear in the smaller towns are generally welcomed into the respective communities, but their hands aren’t held as much when it comes to getting them situated.

    Language

With so many people coming from so many different worlds and times, it would be terribly naive to think that everyone would be able to communicate with no issue. Pandora, however, has an easy solution to this.

Whatever language someone speaks is automatically translated for everybody else. It is not something people notice, but they will soon find that they can speak and understand everybody who is living alongside them in Pandora.

Written language, however, does not translate. Many of the buildings were pulled from English-speaking countries, but if a citizen does not know the English language, they will not be able to read any of the writing attached to those buildings.

Luckily, in late Winter Year 6, the Department of Magical Advancements released translation devices that had been in development for months, programmed with a plethora of languages to better help its citizens communicate. Official signs in every town have also been enchanted to be able to be read in any citizen's native language.

    Currency

Pandora's official currency, which is used in every major town, comes in the form of three types of coin: the pound, the shilling and the penny. While most newcomers to Pandora often arrive with money from their own world, it cannot be used for the purchase of marketable items. Newcomers are usually directed to banks to exchange whatever money they have on their persons for Pandora's currency, or are simply encouraged to find jobs to start earning money.

A pound is the most valuable of the three and each other coin can add up to it.
    • 12 pence is equal to one shilling.
    • 240 pence is equal to one pound.
    • 20 shillings are equal to one pound.
To avoid confusion, think of ONE in-game pound being worth TEN real-life pounds.

    Technology

In Pandora, technology has been slowly but surely developing to almost modern standards thanks to the ingenuity of its inhabitants. Pandora Town makes use of magitech, and Misty Hollow and Cascade Bay both use electricity. All three towns provide their citizens with internet access, and Pandora's inhabitants can use cell phones almost all across Pandora.

Due to the nature of the game, technology can be pulled in from all different kinds of worlds with their own unique spins on technology. It is not uncommon for characters to come in with fully-powered robotic suits, or even build such from scratch. Characters have different skills at their disposal that allow them to create anything realistically possible in Pandora, and quite a number of characters have put their knowledge to use to provide for the community. Any personal inventions or specialized tech are usually the exception to the rule.

Regardless of a character’s abilities, they would still have to take into the account the limited resources available in Pandora.

    Resources

Wood, water, and air, as well as stone and metal from the mountains, are the most plentiful of natural resources to be found in Pandora. Resources can also be dropped in randomly and in varying quantities, either in raw forms (such as a block of copper that shows up in your room) or already having been produced or manufactured in some fashion (such as gas at gas stations that have appeared overnight).

Making use of whatever drops into Pandora every so often is something Pandora's inhabitants take advantage of whenever possible. However, gaining resources in such a manner lacks reliability, for it is doubtful that such items or places will drop again in the future, so they must be used wisely.
