    @Kylo Ren

The sun was slowly making its descent in the sky. Rey could barely believe what had passed before them today. It appeared that Han Solo was indeed in Pandora, though he was much younger than she remembered him. She had been excited, perhaps a little too much, and in that she had possibly forgotten what family she was dealing with.

It had been easy to get too wound up in it and in the coincidence. It had just been so easy, spotting him while they were on their travels. She'd only reunited with Ben last night, so seeing Han just felt to her like the next piece in the puzzle. She hadn't really known what she had been thinking and now Rey didn't need the force to tell her that she'd made a mistake. That much was blindingly obvious to her.

It led her now to be walking at such a quick pace to keep up with Ben that she had to break out into a short jog in order to keep him in her sights. Her heart was sinking and her lightsaber clinked against her hip with her running. What had she been expecting to happen, really? It had to be worth the try, surely. It had all been going so well. She had to make him stop and speak to her; she could feel a tightness in her chest. There was the fear there that he'd just leave without her explaining why she'd done it, why she felt the need to do it.

"Ben, wait." She said, just about able to articulate herself whilst going through her half run/jog to keep him in her eyeline. "Ben, please." Rey knew she couldn't just let him run off like this, into the nothingness which was the Horizon jungle. They were far enough away from the town now to be in the thick of trees and who knew what else?

He knew she was behind him, struggling to keep up with his longer strides, but that didn't stop him. He moved through the trees, pushing aside branches that got in his way, needing to put as much distance between him and Han Solo as was possible. His jaw was clenched, his heart was pounding, but it wasn't pure anger. There was more, things he couldn't bother to put names to. He didn't want to face her.

But Rey was persistent, calling his name- his real name- and somehow staying close behind. It had been his first instinct to use the Force and freeze her in place about twenty yards back, but he'd somehow resisted.

The jungle was dense around them when Kylo stopped and turned, expression harsh. "What, Rey?"

It wasn't that Rey was unfit as she struggled to keep up with Ben. He was taking such long steps and he was going too quickly for her. She had been trying to not run and look like she could manage matching his pace, but even she had to concede that he was moving too quick for her. Rey's chest was heaving by the time he looked round at her.

The look he gave her made her flinch slightly. It wasn't that she was intimidated by the look but by the reality that she had caused this. Her actions had been meant with the best of intentions. Ben had a family and a second chance at getting to know them. She was still coming to terms with the reality of her own parentage. It wasn't something she wanted to think about.

The thought struck her that she had no idea what to say. "Where are you going?" She asked quickly closing the distance between them but still leaving a gap.

Where was he going. What a stupid question. Why would she.... Who did she think...

His lips parted to respond, but he knew very well he had no idea where he was going. Back to camp? He was fairly certain that was the other way. Pandora Town? He had a long walk ahead of him if that was the case.

Instead of answering, he stepped towards her. "What makes you think you had the right to do that? Your need to save me? Turn me to the light side? Do you really think Han Solo is the way to do that?"

Her chest was still rising and falling heavily. Rey was just glad that he'd stopped. She wasn't surprised he rounded on her, but it sent a shiver down her spine. Had she really been that blind? Rey tried to keep her composure despite the situation.

"That wasn't- I didn't mean-" That hadn't been her thought process; at least not consciously. She hadn't assumed that meeting his father would lead him to the light as easily as one might fall asleep. The corner of Rey's mouth twitched. She didn't know how to justify herself to him. It had just been an idea; a chance. Why was he reacting so badly?

She could feel the tension around them; she didn't need the force to make her aware of it. "I just thought that you might like to see him." Rey forced herself to say. Even as she spoke she could feel how stupid her thoughts had been.

He blinked. He couldn't believe was she was saying, that she could possibly mean it. Could she really not understand? Hadn't she seen what he'd done first hand?

"I-" His voice broke. "I killed him. I killed my father. And you think I want to look him in the face?" His tone had grown low, almost hoarse, trembling with the effort it took to keep himself composed. Seeing him had only reached in and ripped the tear in Kylo farther apart. He took a step towards Rey.

"I thought killing him would end the war inside me. It didn't. It made it worse, and then you..." His gaze swept to the side, into the trees. Something lurked nearby.

In a way, Rey knew that the conflict inside him had become worse after his father's death, because she had felt it in the force. It was the conflict she had been able to feel during their conversations and when they'd touched hands across the galaxy. She'd been able to feel it all. So now she had to wonder, what had she been thinking? Rey didn't have an answer for him, but she didn't flinch again as he stepped towards her, and she stood her ground.

"I'm sorry, I just-" Rey's voice was a higher than it would usually be, and she had matched the tone and dynamic of his. She was also struggling to keep her emotions in complete control given the circumstance but she had cut off as well, because the rustling had got louder. Rey turned so that she was facing the rustling noise, and she instinctively kept looking towards it.

A few moments silence passed after the rustling. Rey had been about to turn to Ben and continue their argument, but at that moment a large tiger-like creature leaped out of the bushes to the side of them. It snarled before running dead straight towards them. There was no time for the lightsaber. She leaped out of the way of the creature towards the left, but misjudged the terrain she was landing on and tumbled over to her side; her lightsaber flew off in the opposite direction. "Ben-" She said cautiously, drawing herself to her knees, as the creature turned to face her.

When Rey jumped left, Kylo leapt right- and in the same stride had his lightsaber ignited and in hand. But their attacker-- a sleek, brightly colored animal with sleek fur and needle-like fangs-- had taken to the young woman. He saw her fall, the lightsaber flying out of reach.

The fanged creature had settled into a low crouch, haunches poised to spring on its exposed prey. It was far larger than Rey, and its claws, flexing into the dirt beneath, would tear through her like paper.

Ben lifted his hand, and the Force blasted it sideways and into the nearby tree trunk. It yowled in anger, and fell heavily, but did not remain out of the fight for long.

Rey pushed herself backwards and started to scramble backwards away from the creature; away from those teeth. She didn't have sight of her lightsaber, and her coherent thoughts seemed to have promptly left her mind. Her chest rose and fell quickly and she suddenly became very aware of her surroundings, almost like time was slowing down around her. All she could fix on was the creature and its teeth.

When Ben drove the creature into a tree, she took her opportunity and called the lightsaber to her, and jumped to her feet. The familiar hum of her lightsaber brought her some confidence and comfort. The creature, having recovered, snarled and made another break for her. This time she was ready and cut towards the creature with her lightsaber, trying to bring it down to injure the creature to drive it away. At the last second it diverted but roared at her, trying to find a way past the blue. It got up onto its hind legs and brandished its claws towards her.

The creature dodged the blue, but not the red. With a growl of his own, Ben swung the hissing saber through the air, burying it into the exposed ribcage. He stepped forward to follow through, teeth grit and lips curled in a snarl; the blade twisted while the creature gave a last yelp and died.

He retracted the blade, and its limp body fell to the ground heavily. He watched it for a second, then let a slow breath through his nose and raised his gaze. His shoulders dropped, and he looked to Rey.

Not in time. He saw the second stalking her from behind, and his eyes widened as it sprung. "Rey!"

Rey held the lightsaber back, ready to strike. She breathed in slowly, calmly, like Luke had tried to show her. She had to stay in control. It was all about balance and control. She jumped backwards slightly as Ben's lightsaber cut into the creature; she kept her weapon raised for a few seconds, just in case, but it limped to the ground as expected. She deactivated her lightsaber.

The way Ben shouted her name made her stomach turn. Rey turned a moment too late and was knocked to the ground under the creature. She hit the ground hard, trying to push the creature off her with one hand as the other tried to grab her lightsaber again. The creature took one deep swipe at her arm; its claw dug into the flesh it found like a knife might go through butter. Her other arm went straight to cradling the injured one as blood poured out onto the ground below. The thought of grabbing the lightsaber was pushed out by her screams of pain; pinned under the creature she had nowhere to go except backwards. She tried to scramble back, but the creature matched her movements.

Everything was happening too quickly. The creature took another swipe at her and caught the side of her chest and waist. Rey twisted and screamed again. She could see it going for another swipe. She closed her eyes tight, unable to do anything to defend herself; waiting for the inevitable.

Ben took two long strides towards Rey, the lightsaber in his hand crackling back to life. His other hand clenched, and with the Force stopped the creature from making its third slash into her body. It yelped in alarm, it's claws extended in midair. Then he pulled, and swung.

The creature slid across the ground towards him, yanked by the Force. A round yellow eye watched as the crackling red blade arced through the air and bit into its neck.

When he rose, Ben glanced across the area, feeling outwards with the Force, but could sense no other life form approaching. Then he stepped over the slain beast, and went to Rey.

Blood was quickly soaking her clothes, and her skin had paled. "Rey," he muttered, glancing up to her face to see if she was still conscious. He pressed one hand into the wound on her side in an attempt to ease the flow of blood, but knew it wouldn't do them much good for long.

When the third blow didn't come, and it was replaced with a yelp, Rey let her eyes fall wide open again, searching for what had happened. Her heart was pounding and she felt weaker by the moment. Her throat felt dry as she tried to cry out for help, but nothing came out of her mouth.

She didn't want to move; it hurt to do that. It hurt to do anything. She couldn't see the creature, or hear it for that matter. Her breathing was rasp; she couldn't see how much blood she was losing. All she was aware of was the pain, and of Ben's voice. The relief was evident in her features; he was still there. It was more than she felt she deserved.

Her injured arm lay off to the side; she felt incredibly still despite the pain coursing through her body. She winced as Ben placed his hand over the wound at her side. "Ben?" She said as clearly as she could. Her eyes were blinking and kept rolling as she struggled to stay awake. The darkness was more inviting than the pain of staying in the light of day.

The anger expelled from his body with a heavy sigh. But he did not relax. There had been more than one instance where he and Rey had stood on opposite sides, when he might have killed her given the chance. Maybe after what she'd done to him that day, she deserved to be left. The thought crossed his mind fleetingly, but his hand didn't budge from the wound. When she muttered his name, a small relief passed through him. But it didn't last long.

Whether she was wrong or right in her thinking, she'd come for him back home. She'd let him stay here in Pandora. She was wrong to have such a hope in him, but he wouldn't want her to stop. Not really.

They couldn't stay here. He took one glove off, pressed it over her bleeding side, and moved Rey's hand on top of it. "Press down. Hard." He took back his own hand, and lifted her body from the ground. He stood with her against his chest- and remembered the last time he'd held her like this. She'd been his prisoner.

"I'm sorry," he muttered, not sure she would hear, and not needing her to. He began moving towards the camp.

Rey was struggling to keep awake. Her wounds burned and beads of sweat ran down her forehead. Her breathing was shallow and weak and she writhed slightly, as though changing the position she was in might lessen the pain. It didn't.

When Ben spoke he sounded further away than the first time she'd heard him. Rey couldn't muster the energy to look at him but she did what he asked and pushed down hard on her wound. She knew she had to do it to stem the blood, but she felt weak.

When he lifted her up, she winced and let out a sharp cry. It wasn't that he was rough or careless; the sensation of moving just hurt her. She rolled her neck round so that her head was resting on his shoulder as it was more comfortable than letting her head roll around.

Rey heard his mutter and the sides of her lips curled upwards slightly, "So I am." She breathed, barely audibly. Her energy was being spent holding her side to seal the wound. She didn't look around them as Ben walk, she kept very still, holding herself against him. She wasn't quite sure how long it was, but the world very quickly slipped out of view and her arm went limp to the side.

Perhaps an hour or so later, Rey lay beside the fire, strips of fabric torn from her blankets wrapping tightly around her wounds as bandages. The rest were layered over her for warmth. Kylo knelt nearby, attempting to scrub the blood from his hands with a damp cloth.

She would need more medical attention than his makeshift bandages. Perhaps he could find someone in town to come have a look. And o
nce he'd done that... he should leave. Go back to Pandora Town and leave her be. She'd be better off that way, and they both knew it. He rose with a sigh.

He took a few steps away from the cave, then paused and looked back to Rey's still form. Her chest rose and fell with steady breaths, and the bleeding had mostly stopped. Her face, though, was pale, peaceful. She would be alright. He looked away, beginning to step towards Horizon.

At first, mercifully, Rey had no recollection of what had come to pass before she'd slipped into darkness. There was a soft muggy sensation where she was simply coming round and stirred gently. She tried to move before she opened her eyes, feeling quite warm under her blankets. As she did, she felt pain pulse through her body, stemming up from her side. Then she remembered all at once.

Rey felt like she'd just plunged her face into cold water; she took a sharp, desperate breath and sat up suddenly; probably too quickly. She could remember the creature, and the blood and.... She winced, the memories were like dreams, coming in and out of her head. She looked around desperately as her vision went from the blurred aftermath of sleep to her usual clarity.

They fixed on the only other moving thing near the cave. She was looking at the back of Ben. She didn't move, she hadn't yet noticed his handiwork for the bandages or the blankets over her. It was all sinking in one bit at a time. "Where are you going?" She asked, her voice gaining strength as she did.

He heard rustling behind him and stopped to turn back. Rey was sitting up, her voice quiet but steady, watching him with a confused look. He took several strides towards her, eyes narrowed. He knelt, touched his fingers to the front of her shoulder. "Lay back," he muttered, almost sternly. "You'll start bleeding again."

There was a moment, a fleeting moment, when she wanted to argue back. That she was fine, that she didn't need to lie back, that she would not start bleeding again. Rey looked at where he had placed the fingers on her shoulder and then locked eyes with him again. After a moment she nodded in acknowledgement and settled back onto the rough floor she'd become accustomed to.

Once she had settled again, she took a few moments to look at her side which had been bandaged up. She smoothed a finger alongside it gently. How long had it taken him to do this? Just how long had she been out. Rey had a dozen questions, but there was still one which hung in the air between them. "You didn't answer my question." She pointed out reasonably, swallowing harshly.

She stared at him stubbornly, as though she might actually suggest that she were just fine. He held her gaze until she finally laid back, and then drew his hand back and rested it on his knee. His fingers were still stained in places from her bloods.

He glanced away. "I was going to the town," he replied flatly. "You should have that stitched, or healed. There are people who can do far more than I can in this wold." Only when he'd finished did he risk glancing her way again.
