The gut answer for Rey was the obvious one. She'd always wanted her family to come back for her. The desperation had been etched on the wall of the wreckage she used to live in on Jakku. Her expression changed a little; that had been the only dream she'd ever really had. It had been the one which had sustained her each day, kept her going. She'd even almost refused BB-8 and to help him all for the desperation of trying to find her family. She'd even said no to Han Solo's offer of a job in place of it. She'd refused the galaxy over waiting for the family she longed for. It was all she'd ever wanted, but now she knew it was forever out of reach, even here.

"All I ever wanted was not to be alone." She said, looking at the fire before letting her gaze move towards Ben's again. The words spoken made her feel small somehow. That wound in her mind was about as fresh and open as the one bandaged up at her side.

Ben met her gaze steadily. He paused before answering, considering what he'd almost done, leaving her here. A part of him still felt it would've been the right thing. Seeing her, laying there, vulnerable and trusting him- made that idea harder.

"You won't be." It felt like a promise.

Rey swallowed the emotion which she could feel was engulfing her. She squeezed her eyes for a moment, stopping her tears from welling. If she didn't keep it in check, she might let it all flow out, and she wasn't sure she had the strength to stop it if she did. There was a lot of pain in her past; she wasn't ready to face it all yet. It was easier to think of the future, and what she could do now. The way Ben spoke made her want to trust him, absolutely completely. "I won't let you be, either." She said, matching the promise. There was a bond between them in the force, but she wanted it to spill out into her waking life, rather than what was going on inside her head.

Rey lay silently for a few moments. There was more she wanted to say to him, more that she wanted to explore, but she didn't trust her own emotions and so she decided to leave it for the moment. "What was Pandora Town like?" She asked curiously, as that was where he had journeyed from to find her in the jungle.

He blinked. He wanted to believe her. In that moment, he believed she meant what she said- but sooner or later she would remember what he was, wouldn't she? Monster, she'd called him. What if he never became what she wanted him to?

He pushed the thoughts from his mind, gave a nod and a small smile. There was emotion in her gaze that he wanted to understand more, but instead the topic changed. She wasn't ready to face it, and that was fine. "It was... busy. Lots of people. Lots of different people, living together in one space. It was fascinating, but at the same time, a bit overwhelming." He glanced around at the jungle that surrounded them before looking back to her. "I met another Force user there, who lived in our world thousands of years before we did." His next words caught briefly at the tip of his tongue. He wanted to tell her, just to tell somebody. "And... Darth Vader is there."

Rey listened intently to Ben when he spoke, like he was spinning her some kind of wonderful story which let her see beyond this little corner of the world, and her injuries. Her features softened and she smiled a little. She wondered what it would be like to see so many people. Horizon did not have a big population; the largest amount of people she'd ever seen had probably been the Stormtroopers on one of the First Order's ships. Even in the Resistance there weren't that many people.

Her expression changed when he mentioned Vadar. She didn't know much beyond the legends about him; he was infamous across the galaxy. She knew the family connection though with Ben. This was just turning out to be one odd family reunion for him, wasn't it? Her gut reaction was fear, fear of Vadar and when he might do, especially to a Jedi. The other force user was odd enough; she had assumed she and Ben were the last ones left alive who had that power. "Did you meet him?" Rey asked, tilting her head so she could look straight on at Ben. She wasn't being judgemental or accusatory, but she just wondered if he had gone to see him before coming to Horizon to her.

    He shook his head. "No."

His gaze slipped over to the flames, and he shifted forward to cross his arms over his knees. "I thought about it. But then I found you, and came here instead." It was mostly true. That he'd already been leaving Pandora Town, unable to make himself face his grandfather, when they'd been connected through the Force was a detail he didn't want to explain. He looked back to Rey.

"You should get some rest," Ben suggested, his tone softening.

Rey watched Ben carefully. She might say she couldn't imagine the conflict he felt at such things, but she had been able to feel it. She chewed on her bottom lip thoughtfully; she had heard tales of Vadar, along with all the other stories which had illustrated her childhood. What girl, with nothing else, wouldn't lap up the stories of Jedi vanquishing Vadar and taking back the galaxy? She knew there'd be more to it, but sh wasn't sure how she felt about Vadar being in Pandora. At the moment, she didn't have any beyond surprise.

"I will." She said, a little stubbornly, though she hadn't got up again. Rey wanted to push the topic of Vadar, but she wasn't sure how much Ben was for being pushed at the moment, especially as he'd just changed the topic. "Are you going to get some rest as well?" She asked him, head on the side so she could look straight at him. She trusted him to stay, but the pressing anxiety on her mind was that he'd leave like everyone else.

He felt the intention behind her question, the worry, and wondered what the right thing to say was to make him believe her. He settled for the truth. "Yes." He lurched forward and onto his feet, then rose and walked around to where he'd slept the night before. He picked up the blankets, and moved to the front of the fire, near where her head lay. It would be within her view.

He looked to meet her eyes. "I'll be here when you wake up. Alright?"

Rey was prepared to take Ben at his word. She had no reason to doubt him from what had passed between them over the last few hours. Without him, she would have bled out on the jungle floor. Just another casualty, just another life ended. The thought was incredibly sobering and she found herself settled on a smile at him. Her instinct was to turn onto her side to sleep but she winced as she stopped herself from doing so. Her wound was still painful. If she could get through the night without ripping the flesh again then she'd be more than happy.

She coughed and looked over at Ben again, "Sleep well, Ben." She said gently, finding sleep irresistible as she closed her eyes. It was not long before her chest rose and fell softly and she slipped into the world of dreams.
