Okay so I asked this on the Discord but it kinda got buried so I figured I would repeat it here:

Crowley and Jo recently had a thread that involved the church in Misty Hollow and them fighting a monster around it and breaking a few of the windows (long story). Would Crowley be in trouble for what happened, or are these laws only coming into effect in the spring? Does it make any difference that they were only there because of a monster that was also on the property (and ended up sparing the town a nasty encounter with a pestilence beast in the process)?

    Hey there, @Jack!

The short answer is, the laws will formally be in effect March 1st onwards, so Crowley and Jo won't be getting into trouble, don't worry!

The longer answer is that, up until now, the Misty Hollow laws have never been formally written down and spread around, but you can assume that there have been basic guidelines in place for years. Mostly common sense sort of things, seeing as the Defenders have been around since the town's discovery. You know, things like don't steal, don't kill, don't mess with the barrier since it's what's keeping us all safe, etc. Patrols, for example, have always been a thing, just never strictly enforced and requiring permits, etc. the way they will be now.

So you can probably go with something like... while there have been some patrols around the church, Crowley and Jo could have easily slipped under the guards' radar. Maybe that night the guard in charge took a longer-than-normal coffee break or something, or whatever else you'd like to headcanon! We've only just posted the laws, so you couldn't have known that trespassing on church grounds would get your characters in trouble. Unless, you know, your characters are the troublemaking type, so now that there are laws, they'll want to break 'em anyway, mwahaha!

TL;DR -- The new laws will be in effect March 1st and we won't be punishing characters for breaking laws they had no idea about. But do assume that common sense laws like no stealing, no killing, no messing with the barrier, etc. have been common knowledge from the get-go.

If you have any other questions or concerns, don't hesitate to ask!
