King Joffrey Baratheon A Song of Ice and Fire

His stay in Misty Hollow had been surprisingly acceptable. No ghosts and magicians had harassed him and he was actually being careful to not challenge his luck and end up in an infuriating situation. Neither the food nor the accommodation was ideal, but he could sleep at night and he did not stay hungry, which were both welcoming situations. All in all, he had found that he had been content with this trip compared to how dramatic his past trips had been.

Perhaps living so long in a desert village had caused a significant drop in his standards, for Joffrey found it easier to not be upset about something the less he thought of home. Granted he missed his giant halls and armies of obedient soldiers and powerful weapons, but he did not miss the endless delegations, the wars, the traitors and the whispers in the Red Keep's hallways. It was true that most of the time Joffrey simply did not know what to do with his freedom, but he thoroughly enjoyed not being bothered and that he had experienced during his brief stay in Misty Hollow.

His luck was about to change. He was returning to the inn at dusk, unwilling to remain outside when the darkness would fall and all the dangers would crawl out of the shadows, when he heard the cry of a raven and soon after watched it in fear as he flew above the foggy town. One would think that Joffrey's most despised animal was a wolf, with how often he spoke against them, but he had no love for ravens after the incident which had briefly transformed him to a goose. As much as he wanted to forget about it, the bird's presence always reminded him and he hissed and reddened from anger at the thought of the Raven King.

Joffrey shivered, but prefered to think that it was because of a change in the weather rather than anything else and continued his way. But soon he realised that sets of eyes were on him and he turned to look at a most unpleasant surprise.
