    dec 1 – @Jaesa Willsaam

Kylo was returning to Rey's– to his apartment late in the evening, a bag over his shoulder full of things he was slowly moving in from Revan's ship. To be fair, he didn't have a lot, but it still felt like something to be claiming that space in some ways. Even if a part of him wanted to turn tail and run, to hop on the Black Horizon and not look back, because somehow even Rey hurt. And that... that fucking sucked.

But he'd promised. To be around more, to put his best foot forward, to make a sort-of home there. Because they still needed each other, even if one particular facet of that had been recently cut off.

He glanced to Jaesa's door as he passed, debating stopping by to see how she was doing; when he heard music. Loud, thumping music, where as far as he knew Jaesa lived with nobody but Ceetoo, and had.... no offense to the woman, but little to no friends besides him and Rey, at least here in Elysium. His eyes darted down the hall towards his and Rey's door, then back, and stepped to Jaesa's.

Three loud poundings on the door; nothing. Her damn music was too loud, so Kylo rolled his eyes and turned the knob, finding the door unlocked. He pushed it open, stepping inside slowly, and was sure to shut it behind him. He set his back down in the entryway and called out, moving further into the apartment, "Jaesa!"

She had no idea what music this was, but that didn't stop her from singing along. Trying to, at least. She didn't know the words, so all she had to fall back on was loudly singing random syllables that she sort of managed to fit to the tune.

The synthetically cold night air whispered across her skin as she danced, her movements still managing to be coordinated, legs and hips shuffling to the beat, if not as graceful as usual. She didn't even seem to notice where she was dancing. Never mind that she was balancing on the wall of her balcony, the great expanse of Elysium's Upper City stretching far below. In the fuzzy haze of her mind, it didn't occur to her that one small misstep would send her plummeting to her death. She was having fun.

There was a bottle of whisky in her hand, not even half-finished. She'd found it in her ship and hadn't really intended to do anything with it, wanting to try and avoid the vice-filled lifestyle she had previously had. But she had been lonely that day. Lonely, sore, tired, and struggling under the weight of a thousand traumas. She'd been trying to hide her struggles from Kylo and Rey. They were building a life, after all, and didn't need her dropping all of her baggage into their laps any more than she had already. So she had been suffering alone, presenting smiles and laughs for her friends.

And that night, the lure of whisky and the numbing of her pain that it promised had beckoned and she had answered. Only, she had not taken into account the fact that whatever memories she had, her body had never dealt with alcohol before.

When she heard Kylo's voice calling from the entry hall, she let out a woop in return. "Kyloooo!" Company! "I'm outsiiiiiiide."

He knew as soon as he heard the sing-song of her voice that he was in for something entertaining. He looked out the window to the balcony, a look of mild annoyance with a tinge of amusement on his face; until he saw where she stood. Dancing. Drunk. One poorly coordinated step—

Kylo rushed for the open door to the balcony, staring wide-eyed at the woman as she danced. If it weren't for the glass bottle in her hand, he'd have shoved her with the Force to the inside of the balcony, calling any consequential bruises as better than the alternative. "Jaesa, what..." He groaned, and took two long strides to the ledge, where he snatched hold of her wrist. "Give me the bottle. Come on. Get down." He sounded like a stern parent.

Kylo dashed into view, looking as though he couldn't believe his eyes. Probably because of the dancing. The only dancing that old her had done had been the inappropriate kind designed to make men sweat. Ick.

Part of her was dimly aware that this attempt at drinking wasn't really going the way she'd expected it to from those memories. She wasn't really sure why. But not like it mattered, because it was fun fun fun.

When Kylo strode forwards, snatching hold of her wrist and scolding her, she pouted down at him, large dark eyes shining in the gloom from beneath a breeze-ruffled fringe. "But why," she asked, as though she didn't see anything wrong with drunkenly dancing on the edge of her balcony. "You should come up here too! Look at the view!"

    Great, she was pouting.

Kylo huffed in exasperation, and let go of her wrist to instead take hold of either side of her waist, pull, and lower her down next to him. "You could have– fucking fallen over, Jaesa! Give me that." He snatched for the bottle this time, not trusting her to actually hand it over.

When he let go of her wrist, she was about to continue on with her merry dancing along to the thudding bass coming from the lounge. But before she could, there were hands at her waist and she was being bodily lowered from the wall. "Heeeey!" she protested, before the bottle of whisky was taken from her hand.

"That's mine!" she said loudly, before she huffed. "If you wanted some, you could've just asked, grumpy-face."

His hand closed around the neck of the bottle, and he held it up to inspect just how much was left. About half the bottle. Which mean she'd drunk the other half– in a body that, he could only assume, did not have as much experience with alcohol as her last one had. He swore under his breath, sighed heavily at grumpy face. She wasn't wrong.

But, as she was no longer in imminent danger, he had to admit this was kind of funny. He'd never known Jaesa to be such a peppy drunk, but then, this Jaesa had never been drunk. "I think you've had enough for us both," he replied. And turned to put a hand between her shoulder blades, guiding her towards the door. "Let's go inside. Change this music." Before he drew his lightsaber and cleaved his ears off.

"More for me!" she exclaimed happily when he pointed out that he didn't want any. She reached out a hand and swiped out for the bottle that he held, but even if he hadn't been holding it away from her, she missed by a good six inches anyway.

"I dunno why Jedi aren't meant to get drunk," she mused, blithely wandering to the open sliding door as Kylo guided her. "This is greaaaat." She'd remembered doing something with the Force last time to stop herself actually getting drunk, but the whisky had gone to her head way too quickly for her to even try.

At his mention of her music, she spun around mid-step so abruptly to frown up at him, with the result that she almost fell over and only a hand closing around a fistful of his shirt kept her upright. "What's wrong with my music?" she accused. She would probably have hated this if she was sober, but then she had no actual taste in music to fall back on, neither from home nor from these memories. All she cared about right then was that it was loud and bouncy. Beaming, she turned back and danced through the door into the lounge, dark hair swinging. "No no, no no no no, no no no no,no no there's no limit!" she sang.

At her sad attempt to swipe the drink back, Kylo merely lifted it by a few inches, not that it ended up being necessary. She was out of it.

"Because drunk Jedi nearly get themselves killed, apparently," he grumbled. Though... at least she was smiling. Maybe getting drunk, forgetting her traumas, was a much-needed escape for Jaesa. He'd only wished she'd done it supervised.

As she spun around, nearly tripping over her own feet in doing so, Kylo had to lurch and grip her shirt to keep her from falling over outright. She didn't seem to even notice, as she straightened out and accused him with the utmost offense. A look of calm amusement had taken place of his utter grumpiness. But before he could reply that her music was shit, she was shimmying through the doorway. He sighed and followed her through, shutting the door firmly behind him.

"I'll play it for you when you're sober, and we'll see how you feel," he muttered, mostly to himself, as he followed Jaesa into the room. He looked around until he spotted the whiskey bottle's cap on the floor, put it back on, and stowed the bottle in one of the upper cabinets while Jaesa's attention was elsewhere.

Only then did he approach her in the lounge, where he swept his eyes over the room until he spotted the source of that song, and turned the volume dial down dramatically with a glare cast Jaesa's way. "Well, I'm glad I decided to stop in," he pointed out. "What got all of this started?"

Once she was in the lounge, she stood in the centre of the room surrounded by the couches that had already been there when she'd moved in, and continued dancing in a circle, singing, until the music was suddenly turned very far down. Meeting Kylo's glare with a dramatic sigh, she scowled at him. "Your name isn't Kylo or Ben," she told him. "It's Buzzkill."

And then when he asked his question, her scowl vanished as quickly as it had come and for just a second her expression went completely blank. "Nothing wrong with fancying a drink," she said, waving a hand carelessly, before she suddenly grinned, expressions shifting like quicksilver. "I'm hungry. Do you want a burger? I'm gonna go make burgers." Spinning around - and nearly falling again - she flounced off towards the kitchen... and the stove.

Buzzkill Solo. He'd have to remember that.

"No, but clearly somebody isn't used to their limits–" he pointed out uselessly, as Jaesa had already moved beyond the topic and was moving towards the kitchen. To make burgers. With a groan, he jogged across the space after her, and with an arm turned her around and got on the other side of her. "No. Hell no. If you want a burger..." Oh, for fuck's sake. "I'll make it. And we'll both suffer." She could probably use the food in her stomach, anyways. He turned to the fridge, opened a door, and began looking around. But he paused in the midst of trying to figure out how to do this, and looked over this shoulder, gesturing at the kitchen island where a couple stools sat.

    "Just... sit down, would you?"

She flapped her hand at him when he spoke of limits as though flapping his words away. She'd had limits all her life. What was wrong with just letting loose?

"You?" she said incredulously, before giggling. "You're more likely to burn the kitchen down than I am." She huffed when he told her to go sit down, but did as she was told, plopping herself down onto a stool and watching him stare blankly into the fridge. There was a new expression on her face as she did so; fondness, though whether specifically for him or just for company she wasn't entirely sure. Probably an equal amount of both.

Ten seconds later, she got bored, bounced up and ended up peering over Kylo's shoulder. "There are burgers in the freezer," she pointed out helpfully.

He heaved a sigh of relief when she finally seemed to settle, and resumed his search; ground beef, patties, anything– unless the pad of her footsteps behind him told him the peace was over.

At least she offered something helpful. A grunt of acknowledgement, and side-eyed glance her way, and he shut the fridge and went for the freezer, easily finding what he was after. He grabbed a couple frozen burgers, found a plate, and soon had them in the microwave to thaw out.

Then he went for a frying pan, and started up the stovetop. He knew how to do this... in theory. He looked to Jaesa, and after a moment relented with a small snort. "So it looks like you're settling in well," he pointed out.

Backing up a few steps from where she'd been hovering behind him as he straightened up with the frozen patties, Jaesa moved off to the side and - with some clumsy difficulty - hopped up to sit on the counter next to the stove, swinging her legs so her heels drummed against the cupboard below her.

At his comment, she laughed. "Does it?" she asked dubiously, blinking down at him as she cocked her head. Even in her drunken state she was, in the back of her head, aware that drinking half a bottle of whisky when this body had never had a drop of alcohol wasn't the sign of stability.

In the wait time as the burgers turned in the reheater, Kylo looked to Jaesa and shrugged. "Maybe not. Though you drinking isn't an unusual sight by a long shot." His gaze slipped over her features, searching. "Did something happen?"

She shrugged at that, still swinging her legs. Her memories were full of nights that she had spent necking back pints of beer, shots of vodka, bottles of whisky... A large part of her was ashamed, and ashamed that she had succumbed to the temptation of the bottle that evening.

The other part of her was too busy feeling buzzed to care.

"Nothing new," she admitted, though as she looked back at him she wasn't entirely sure of how truthful that remark was. "Just... I don't know. I remembered how alcohol made me feel. It made me feel free". Free from the pain that had chased her every single day. "Kinda just wanted to feel that again. I've been resisting it for days but... Dunno. I got lonely, I guess." Leaning to the side, she stuck her face in front of the microwave, peering in at the revolving patties. "Are they done yet? I'm hungryyyy."

Lonely. Kylo frowned slightly, his expression easing to snort as she all but pressed her face against the front of the machine.

"If you were lonely, you could have gone next door to see Rey," he pointed out. The machine beeped as the cycle finished, and he gently shouldered her aside to take them out and transfer them to the frying pan, where they began to sizzle and cook. Kylo was reluctant to take his eyes off them, as though they'd catch flame the moment he did, but risked a glance towards Jaesa.

"Didn't wanna be a nuisance," she mumbled, sitting back and watching as he transferred the patties from the microwave to the stove. As steam began to rise from the cooking meat, she reached forward and waved her hand through it, giggling as it broke and twisted around her fingers. "And figured you two would be busy."

Kylo snorted, prodding the meat impatiently with a spatula. “Busy? Doing what? Watching cartoons?” He referenced their recent group viewing of Finding Nemo. Which... he had to admit, had been an excellent film.

“I’m sure Rey would say the same, but you’re always welcome to come knock.” Especially as she dealt with these memories, the aftermath of Sauron and Semirhage. He wouldn’t want her to feel alone.

For a moment, she just peered at him through a gaze that was suddenly focused a bit more than it had been. "I figured you two would wanna be alone." She shrugged. She'd been noticing it for days, but it hadn't been until they'd invited her around to watch that weird film about fish that the pieces had clicked in her mind as to why she'd been sensing strange tension between them, and why they'd been so preoccupied while pretending not to be. "And I didn't wanna keep dumping my problems on you both."
