She wasn't sure how this happened, but Ayano suddenly felt herself being grabbed by strange black vines, which she at first thought were snakes, given the kind of world she was in, but then all of sudden she found herself in... a town? It was nothing like the lonely classroom she found herself stuck in so often. There were people walking around, carrying on with their daily lives as if there was nothing out of the ordinary.

Frantically looking around and trying to make sense out of the situation, Ayano found herself looking at people as they went past her. Some looked like perfectly normal people, but others had odd traits about them that made her wonder if this was another creation of the Daze or if she really was somewhere else entirely. Some people had pointy ears, others looked like they had some animal features on them such as a tail and... was that a robot??

It felt bizarre to be in a place with actual people in it and, judging by the fact some of them seemed to notice that she was awkwardly staring, they clearly knew she was there. This was no illusion, this was reality, but what kind of reality was this? How did she end up there, to begin with? One wasn't supposed to be able to leave the Daze accidentally like that and leaving it was the last thing she wanted to do, terrible as that world was, she would rather deal with it than with her family being hurt any further.

How was she supposed to even find any answers here? Just start asking random people for information? She had to admit, she had spent so much time in isolation that she had almost forgotten how you were supposed to interact with other people. Still, she wouldn't accomplish anything by standing there. Taking a deep breath, Ayano walked up to the first person in her path and spoke up.

"Excuse me, could I have a moment of your time?"

The past week really has been…something, to say the least. Since the leader of the local vampire clan, Raphael Santiago, has approached him about a quite urgent matter, Hanzo’s day to day life, his social interactions, basically his whole identity, has changed. And while his altering was for a good cause, it still was exhausting to some degree. Even though he saw himself suited for the task, he could not deny that Jesse’s little Going-Undercover 101 and assurance in general were much appreciated and needed support, something that made him go into this with more confidence.

For now, he had to focus on maintaining his alter ego by establishing new routines and characteristics, while still appearing believable and trustworthy to his new “colleagues”. This meant, amongst other things, that he wouldn’t be able to either manage the ramen shop, nor interact with people who knew him as Hanzo since, for now, he was not Hanzo Shimada, but Kazuo Shinya, a popular newcomer in the vampire hunter scene.
Getting into it was actually the easiest part so far, since those pests valued looks more than skills and trusted him fairly quickly after he threw in a believable backstory to round up his intentions. Child’s play, really.

Of course he still tried to live his life as normal as possible, to not appear alien or odd in any way. So he decided it would do no harm to walk the streets of Pandora Town, being a completely ordinary civilian with maybe a grim look to him. But some things just couldn’t be changed, even if he had to mimic to be someone else. Sprinkling a lie with grains of truth is what makes it good after all, that much he remembered from the gunslinger’s little lesson, and so far it seemed to be effective.

But that didn’t mean that he was letting his cover slip in any given moment, and even when he was out privately, the new persona was in effect. Slacking off would be unprofessional anyway, and what if a fellow vampire hunter would accidentally meet him? No chance he was going to risk it.
Being safe from all surprises was a vital key point, nonetheless. Well, at least most surprises.
That a little girl with a flashy red scarf would randomly approach him, really wasn’t planned at all.

“Hmm?” Hanzo growled as he first slowed down his pace to make sure she was actually addressing him, before coming to a halt as he noticed that, yes indeed, she meant him, of all people, of course.
“Yes? Depends on how you plan to use it.”

Ayano looked up to meet the man's gaze. He had an intimidating look to him that made her feel unsure if approaching him had really been a good idea. He wasn't being particularly welcoming either and Ayano was already starting to regret her decision, although now that they had already started a conversation, there was really no turning back anymore.

"Um... Where am I? I've never been anywhere like this before." She spoke meekly, tugging at her red scarf as a means of comfort.

If there was one thing she could be glad about was that this person was human. At least, from what she could see. Every now and then someone with a downright alien appearance would walk by and Ayano couldn't help but stare as they walked past, wondering how this kind of thing was even possible. If this person was like that, the situation would have been even more awkward than it already was...

Hanzo looked at her, quite surprised about the question, since it did seem a little odd and out of the blue. First he scanned the girl carefully before looking around, low-key expecting this to be some kind of joke, a setup, or something alike; but as he stared down at her again, she really just seemed to be someone who was lost and confused. That’s when it dawned on him, that the poor thing must’ve been new here. Not the city, but this whole damn place in general.

Once more he dared to look around, everything seemed alright still, nothing out of the ordinary so far. Even his gut feeling was d’accord with him on this one. Well, at least he didn’t have to worry too much around this one.
Hanzo cracked a smile, weak, but assuring. “Maybe that is because this place is in fact not like any other. Looks like you found yourself in Pandora, kid.”
That would definitely explain her certain nervousness, he almost felt sorry for the girl.

As he stood there and watched her, he noticed how her curious eyes seemed to follow every stranger passing by, as if they were something new, foreign even; surely something he couldn’t blame her for, almost everyone coming her has that reaction, him included in all honesty, but she still wasbrave enough to approach one of the strangers, that being him, obviously.

“I assume that does not answer your question entirely though. Listen, if you are alright with it, why don’t I show you around a bit and you ask me whatever question pops up, hmm?”
Besides him actually helping out a new arrival, this was a good opportunity to establish his new shining personality. Nevertheless, he figured a little testing with someone he probably wouldn’t have to see again would do no harm…right?

The man's expression softened a little, much to Ayano's relief, but what he said afterward only left her even more confused than she first started. Pandora? A place unlike any other? Well, she could see that given the people she could see casually walking down the street, but she had never heard of a place called Pandora in her life. You'd think a place with people like these would be widely known...

"A-Alright." Ayano nodded at the man's suggestion and began following after him as they walked. "What is Pandora? Is this like... another world?"

It wasn't like she didn't have some experience with going between worlds, but having died and gone into the never-ending world, she wasn't expecting to end up going from there to a completely different place. She wasn't really complaining, seeing as this was already looking to be better than the Daze, but that didn't change the fact that she really didn't know what was going on anymore.

"O-Oh, sorry, my name is Ayano, nice to meet you!"
She introduced herself, just trying to be polite and get on the man's good side.

A subtle nod at her direction should’ve made clear that he was thankful for her following him, even if he was a little concerned about this behaviour. Surely this time it was him she was walking with, but knowing this place he knew that wasn’t the norm; people with good intentions that was, especially given the current circumstances. But the young woman seemed to be old enough to take care of herself, or at least old enough that she should know how to do that. Any way, Hanzo decided to walk down a more busy alley, so she could get a better impression of how people normally lived here; nothing too out of the ordinary really, but a new thing to adjust to nevertheless.

He scoffed teasing, but not mocking, as she quickly began to grasp the situation she was in now, being surprisingly calm. He couldn’t quite tell if this was admirable or simply foolish, maybe both even.
“Yes, you could call it that,” he said, assuring her that her thought process was going into the right direction. “Honestly speaking, I do not grasp its concept quite myself, since people and creatures from everywhere tend to end up here. But please do not ask me where everywhere is supposed to be.”
A sigh. All Hanzo knew that it was some crazy multiple universe theory, which was something he neither had, nor wanted to wrap his head around, for his own sanities sake. To him this was some weird fantasy out of a sci-fi movie, irrational and absurd, but here they were apparently, together, walking side by side, with the oddest species around. A normal view.

As she introduced herself though, he stopped walking for a moment and blankly looked at her. The confused façade vanished quickly though and made way for a warm smile. “A nice name,” and to his pleasant surprise a Japanese one at that. Seems like everywhere was closer than he thought.
Naturally, he figured an introduction from his side would be in order as well, following the etiquette and everything, but this was where his brain had this short disconnect and he hesitated, remembering that he still had to pretend, and not be Hanzo.
“I am Kazuo, the pleasure is all mine, Ayano.”

Shouldn’t be that big of a deal to lie to a stranger, and “Kazuo” felt pretty confident about it as well; she wouldn’t remember him anyway.

The idea that this man could have bad intentions by taking her for a walk through town didn't even cross Ayano's mind, a side-effect of being stuck in another world with very little in terms of human interaction, the only thing keeping her company being her memories of the happy times she had with her family. That didn't mean she was completely oblivious though, if she had noticed anything off she would be quicky to start getting away, but nothing was setting off any internal alarms so far.

It looked like this man wasn't quite sure of what Pandora was himself, which made Ayano realize that he wasn't actually a resident of that place. Had he been brought there by those strange black vines too? Were there other people that went through that same experience? His words seemed to imply it, but that just brought more questions in itself

The man came to a stop and introduced himself as Kazuo, that sounded like a distinctly Japanese name, something that brought Ayano some more comfort as it made her a bit less out of place in such an odd place. Maybe he felt the same, judging by the smile he was giving he was giving her.

"Yours is nice too. Are you from Japan as well?" She asked him, returning his smile with a warm one of her own.

Her incredible nice and open attitude left him a little helpless, and the way she was so kindly talking to him made Hanzo already feel a little bad for having to lie to her; but it was better for both their sake.
Ayano mentioning his… their home country though, gave him this nice beloved feeling of familiarity, a feeling he achieved to reconstruct with that little ramen shop of theirs and which he cherished more than he would like to admit. In a place like Pandora, home was a foreign concept, and Hanzo knew that building a replica of it would never even remotely feel like the original. Still, it was better than nothing, and it was something he liked to share with both his countrymen and curious customers alike.

The fact that the small sized girl indeed was from Japan, only made him open up a little more; that’s the least he could do to welcome her.
“Yes, indeed I am. Unfortunately, my last stay was already a long time ago. Even before I was pulled into Pandora.”
His unusually kind smile turned somewhat melancholic, a faint memory of what home truly looked like, as a place, a location popped up in his memory; faded images of the beautiful surroundings of Hanamura, the placed he lived, he learned, and eventually had to leave behind. A place that really didn’t felt like a real place anymore, but nothing more than just that, a faint memory.

Hanzo shook his head in order to get rid of the pictures and back into reality again, shrugging subtly as he directed a smile again at Ayano. “But, you know what they say: Home is where the heart is, and this place kind of became that for me. Well, the people in it, mostly.”
And that was the truth; he saw no need in lying about it, so might as well just say as it is.

So he was indeed a fellow Japanese. He did look Asian like her, so maybe she should have noticed it sooner, but it was nice to have confirmation from the man himself anyway. Ayano noticed that Kazuo seemed to grow a little sadder talking about he had left his home country even before being taken to Pandora. Maybe his family had to move to another country for some reason, or maybe he had done so himself because he had found a good job in another country, that was something that happened often, from what she could remember.

Maybe he had to leave behind some of his loved ones. Ayano could understand that feeling very well. Her eyes showed Kazuo some sympathy at first, but once he mentioned how Pandora had become a home for him now, her expression changed to that of surprise. That was pretty much an invitation to ask a question that was begging to be asked.

"How long have you been here, Kazuo-san?"

The question she threw at him, while justified, caught him a little off guard. Mostly because he wasn’t really expecting her to steer this conversation into a direction concerning him per sé, but what the hell, he couldn’t possibly deny her. Especially after she addressed him in such a polite and honouring way; though it sounded so so wrong with that false name, but he felt flattered anyway.

Before he gave a definitive answer, Hanzo began to count the months he has been around here already, realizing with increasing shock that the numbers kept going up and up and up until he came to a conclusion which seemed to throw everything out of perspective.

“If I am not mistaken it must be—eight, nine, ten, yeah, roughly ten months already.”

That has been, quite some time, now that he thought about it. Almost a year has passed since he was pulled into this place, and looking back at the day, remembering it with a certain clarity, he realized another important thing. The incredible growth he had gone through, the fact that he built an honest and, perish the thought, enjoyable life for himself here. Frankly, it did feel accomplishing, and that made him warm up even more.

As for Ayano, even if she was obviously new to the place, he hoped that she would find her footing here soon enough as well, and experience all the things which made the stay here worthwhile.
“I know it doesn’t sound like too much, but this place if full of unique opportunities. Sometimes, rather odd yes, but in all honesty, I can’t complain too much about it.
And if you allow me to I’d gladly lend you my support to settle in, Ayano-chan.”

There, this right there was definitely one of the things which changed in Pandora. The probability that one Hanzo Shimada would not only let a strange youth accompany him, but even consider to help them out if needed, would have been slim to non-existent ten months ago. Just further proof how much has changed during this time. But additionally, this was good practice to imprint the role as the popular Kazuo even more; though he thought that this trait would fit Hanzo as well, to a healthy extent at least.

Ten months, that was quite some time, assuming he had been brought there the same way she was. She could understand how this place could offer a lot of opportunities, maybe even things she had never really thought about before. Kazuo seemed to be... well, maybe not necessarily happy, but it didn't look like he was unhappy either.

Usually one wouldn't really be thinking about staying in this situation, they would rather go back home, but that wasn't really an option for Ayano, so she was happy to have someone willing to give her some guidance when otherwise she would be completely lost.

"Thank you, I really appreciate it!" She expressed her gratitude with a big, cheerful smile. She then glanced at her surroundings, just taking in the overall feeling of the city itself. "Do you live here in this city? Where in Pandora is here, by the way?"

She figured it might be a good idea to learn just where in this world she was, unless this city was actually the entire world...

“Oh please, that is the least I can do.”
Hanzo nodded, basically infected with her smile himself, keeping this nice expression up for longer than his face could probably handle. But it was a nice feeling, actually. And she seemed to be a nice young girl. Her reaction to being stuck in here now was…unusual, to say the least. She wasn’t desperate or falling apart or anything; some people tended to not take these news so well. Ayano though showed an atypical kind of curiosity, where there should have been despair she showed nothing but admirable, and maybe naïve, kindness. Not that Hanzo would complain about her attitude or anything. It was just unusual, that’s all.

He nodded again. “Yes, I did find my home in this town. It’s nothing too fancy, but good enough to stay. Of course this place offers a lot of other biotopes as well, if the urban life does not suit you. But,” he paused for a moment, letting his friendly demeanour slide for a second, “not all of them are entirely safe. Believe me; you should keep an eye out if you don’t want to get into trouble, Ayano-chan.”
His personal experience with the out-of-control wildlife of Pandora has been lesson enough, unfortunately it also had been a lesson he had to learn, painfully so. Well, at least he now could use his experience to hopefully keep other’s from harm.

So there were other places outside of the town. That was good to know, being in the same environment for too long could get boring, although Ayano herself wasn't a person who traveled very often, it was still good to have the option available, especially since she was all by herself now, which came with advantages and disadvantages.

One of the good things was the freedom it gave her to do whatever she wanted, within reason that is, as sometimes disagreements in the family led to not a lot of things being done in the end. The bad was, of course, the loneliness that came with it, a feeling she had been more than familiar with in her time in that never-ending world. Kazuo was being very welcoming to her, but she also didn't want to become a burden to him by relying on him too much, she had to learn how to make a living by herself.

"Don't worry, the city life is good enough for me."
She giggled, although she had to wonder just what kind of animals there were in Pandora considering the sheer variety there was just among its citizens. "Was it difficult to start living here? I don't really have experience when it comes to living all on my own." She admitted a little sheepishly, even though that was something that could be expected from someone of her age.

After the death of her mother, Ayano had taken charge of a lot of things in her house, but she never had to take care of everything. She had the help of her siblings when it counted, as well as her father, even though after some time it turned out that there was something evil lurking within him, he still did what he could to help when he wasn't being possessed by that awful snake.

Her expression fell a little the more she thought about her father. She hoped Shuuya and the others would be able to save him because, right now, there was really nothing she could do about it...

Well, was it hard starting a life here? He thought about it for a moment. Generally speaking, no. The people and government offered enough opportunities and supplies to get a somewhat solid footing when coming here, so one would at least have all necessities and wouldn’t rely on starting from zero.
Generally speaking most people people weren’t as stupid as Hanzo, who stubbornly refused all help offered to him in the beginning, and eventually found himself roaming the city homeless and unemployed for a while.
However, that was his own fault, and no one and nothing else was to blame for that other than his unhealthy sense of pride and overly stubborn nature.

Luckily, he bumped into some people who gladly lend him their support and helped him realize that he wouldn’t come far continuing on his lone wolf life for much longer. He was thankful for Raphael to grant him shelter for some time until he found something for himself; he was glad for Mat to offer him a job, even if he may or may not ruined the interview for himself a little; he was glad that his brother actually bothered to keep in touch with him and work on their relationship, which lead to his improving mental health and the motivation he needed to not screw this up again.

So yeah, it was relatively easy to start anew here, granted one ran into the right people. And with Ayano, Hanzo felt like he wanted to be those right people.
“It can be hard, if I’m being honest with you. But from my experience, the people around here are always eager to lend a helping hand.” An assuring smile appeared on his face as he continued on; especially after she noticed how her mood apparently shifted for the worse.
“I assume you don’t have a place to stay yet, yes? Maybe you should start with that?”

Ayano snapped out of her thoughts when she heard Kazuo speak again, talking about how the people in Pandora were always eager to offer new people help. That made sense, a lot of people had to have gone through the same thing as they did right? Most of them must have gone through the same experience so they would feel a level of empathy for people like her... like Kazuo was.

"Y-Yeah... I guess I'll have to find a job and a place for myself..."
She said, tugging her scarf nervously. She had never been put in this kind of position before, so she didn't really know how to go about it. "I'm not very smart, or strong, so I'm gonna need to find something I can do."

She hadn't even finished high school thanks to all the crazy things that happened in her life, so would she have to go back to it? Could she even pay for it? Even if it was free, there was still the matter of getting a home for herself, and food, water, clothes... Just thinking about it all was making her grow a little tense.

The man looked at her, a little taken aback and even a tad surprised. Obviously, he could understand and relate to her new concerns. This shift of things was by far not easy to accept or even deal with, especially for a young person such as Ayano. But Hanzo was certain that she would do great in Pandora, with that attitude of hers. Well, mostly, at least. Naivety could quickly become one’s downfall, but as long as she stuck to good folk, it’d be alright.

“Don’t worry about it,” he reassured her calmly, “there is plenty of things to do here, and I am certain you will find a profession which fulfills you.” Though this was true for the most part, Hanzo still wondered where this nervousness and self-doubt came from. Hell, he knew how that must feel like himself. Maybe in different ways, but it was there nonetheless.

It wouldn’t be fair to leave her hanging here alone with no clue on what to do, to deny her the hospitality with which he was welcomed. So he began to think.
Well, his first instinct was to offer her a small position at his shop; they could always use a helping hand, and Ayano seemed to be good with people; judging by how she randomly approached the next best person to cross her path. But that wouldn’t be possible, his ruse would shatter immediately, since there was no way he could hide his true identity in his own damn business. So, unfortunately, that was off the table. And there was absolutely no way in hell he would offer her to join those fanatics he had to deal with at the moment; actually, he’d rather not get a nice young woman involved into this at all. No help on that front.
But if he couldn’t help her with a job offering, he could at least recommend her a place to stay. That’d be the least he could do.
“Well, it so happens that there’s a small apartment available in the complex I live in. Nothing too fancy, but it’s a nice enough place to stay.”

    ……
    ………
    Wait. No.

What was he doing? Apparently he didn’t think that through at all. She couldn’t know that he owned the locally popular ramen shop, but she also couldn’t know where he was living! Both scenarios would lead to the same result: Ayano finding out that he lied to her. And it was no small brush-it-off-like-nothing-happened lie either! Oh no…
But it was too late to take that offering back now. And besides, wasn’t her having a roof over her head more important than Hanzo being an absolute douche, anyway?

Kazuo's reassurance was nice and it did help put Ayano in a little more ease with the situation. He spoke with real conviction that she would be able to find something for herself and get herself in a comfortable spot and that hopefulness was leaking into Ayano herself and making her feel a little more confident.

When he suggested that she lived in the same apartment complex as him, though not specifically with him, Ayano was a little taken aback by the suggestion. Not that she didn't want to live in an apartment, she could hardly be picky in this kind of situation, but because there was an obvious problem with the proposition.

"But I don't have any money to pay the rent of an apartment. I've never done this before but... you can't just walk in and get yourself an apartment without paying for it, right?"

Yeah, right, those were some justified and realistic concerns. Very understandable, but Hanzo didn’t want her to leave out on the opportunity solely because money was an obstacle. It has been a suggestion anyway, though it came with generous intentions.
Of course there would be other possibilities to take advantage of, the shelter being one of them, but for some reason he wouldn’t feel good with sending her off just like that, even if it’d be the most reasonable thing to do.
However, Hanzo wasn’t really reasonable, and preferred clear results over willy-nilly agreements. Who knew how the girl would manage being entirely on her own? That’d be like sending her off with the bare minimum, a half-hearted effort. Not on his watch!

“I do understand your concern, Ayano-chan. There is indeed another option for those who still try to find their place in here. You can find accommodation at the local shelter I will even walk you there if you want.”
But who would Hanzo Shimada be if not offering a little more...extravaganza.
“However, I am in a good enough position for now to finance the apartment for you, at least for as long as you find a suited occupation, that is. But I do not want to pressure you into anything; in the end, it’s your decision alone.”

To clarify that he absolutely meant it, both the offering and the statement following, Hanzo tried to remain as neutral and serious as possible, while trying to keep the friendly attitude towards her, not wanting to suddenly scare her off or anything.

So there was a shelter. That made sense, a place like that would be needed when people just appeared out of nowhere in this world, unwillingly and without anywhere else to really go to after getting there. That by itself took away a lot of Ayano's worries. She could look for a job without having to worry about sleeping in the streets until she got herself a stable income and the thought of that was enough for her to breathe a sigh of relief.

But then Kazuo outright offered to pay rent for her. He claimed to be in a good enough position to do so, but it was no less surprising that he was willing to go so far for someone like her, who he had just met. Was it just because she was a fellow Japanese, or was he really just that kind of a person? It wasn't that Ayano thought he wasn't being genuine, but she couldn't help but think that was too much.

"A-Are you sure about that? I don't want to cause you any problems..."
She didn't outright refuse his offer, but it was clear that she had reservations about it, though not at all for her own sake.

Ayano showing reservation towards his offer was to be expected, and he couldn’t blame her for that, really. She just got pulled into this world, had to deal with a stranger who praised the good nature of the people here while straight up lying to her himself, and now said stranger even suggested to cover her rent. Maybe he didn’t think it all entirely through, he had to admit, but it was an honest gesture of willing support. Still, he didn’t want to push her into anything she felt uncomfortable with.

With a lazy hand motion, Hanzo waved the girl’s concerns away, metaphorically speaking, and put that frown back upside down. “Oh please, it wouldn’t cause me any additional trouble. I would be glad to be of service.”

The only trouble this little contract would cause, was the fact that Hanzo had to explain all this to Genji, should he ever find out. But if Ayano decided to take him up on that, he assumed, secretly hoped, that she would find a steady source of income of her own, this way he could sneak around any justification of, well, anything really.
