Rey watched Ben as he took off the panel and then as he went for the battery. She was mostly sure that the power to this section was dead. Mostly. She'd short circuited half the wall in trying to get back out so she was willing to bet that the control panel was dead. Nothing had sparked at her yet, so she had to assume she was right. Rey, of course, didn't vocalise any of this to Ben.

"He'll appreciate it." She said, placing some of the wires and two batteries she'd pulled out of her section into her bag. She knew that realistically she wouldn't be able to carry too much back with them; it wouldn't go through the mirror network. At least if she knew where the ship was then she could come back and take it apart section by section. Maybe she could even get something like her Speedo she'd owned on Jakku and do a trip out here without the aid of the mirror network...

"How are you getting on?" Rey asked, after removing a couple more wires and shoving them into the bag which was at her side.

Ben glanced towards her briefly before returning his attention to what he was doing. "Fine," he replied, while he tried to buck himself up to elaborate. "Sometimes I think maybe I like it here," he said after a moment. A small smile appeared on his lips. "And this is fun. Deconstructing things." A grunt as he tore a handful of coiled wire free. "What about you?"

Rey had stopped pulling at the wires and had let her hands fall to rest on her stomach. "What, lying under a control panel?" She teased lightly, eyes set on him. She was just watching Ben for a few moments, looking at what he was doing. She wasn't inspecting it, just watching. Rey's features lit up as he described the work they were doing as fun. It definitely had a new perspective, doing this with someone else. She had been used to scavenging being a solitary activity. Rey wondered silently if before Pandora, Ben would have ever imagined describing this type of activity as fun.

"I'll make a scavenger of you, yet." Rey grinned, shifting to relieve some of the tension on her shoulders as she arched her back, changing the angle she was grabbing the wires at. "I've got a couple of batteries and plenty of wire." She hoped that old man had meant a lot of wire- she probably should have asked him to quantify it. "We'll have to stop soon though." She said, looking side-wards again at Ben, "We won't be able to take too much back through the mirror network with us." Her bag was already brimming. It would maybe fit another battery or power cell in it.

He glanced over at Rey, resisting the urge to roll his eyes at her teasing. "That's not so bad, either," he replied, his tone neutral despite the small smirk that appeared when he looked away.

"I don't know about that." He reached over and began putting away the pieces he'd torn free, in a bag Rey had lent him. She was right- between the two of them, he couldn't imagine the old man would need much more, and there were plenty of other bits for her to sell. Satisfied with his contribution, and not knowing what she would want to top it off with, he let his hands rest together over his core. "Ready when you are."

Rey pulled out a last power cell which had been occupying the space in the panel next to her head. She was happy enough with her haul. They had enough wire, and she could take the batteries and cells to the market tomorrow to sell before she took up her next job for Crowley. All in all, she was satisfied. Head on her side, her actions mirrored his for a moment as her hands rested on her lower stomach. Rey smiled at him before curling upwards, watching her head as she moved past the control panel.

As she pulled herself up on the control panel, she wiped some of the condensation on the window with the wraps on her wrist. Her smile fell off her face at the scene in front of her, "Ben?" She said, as a thick blanket of snow had fallen around them, and the snow still looked like it was falling. It had been cold when they had been walking, but she had not thought that it was that cold. However, it wasn't like she was an expert in snow, having only seen it once before.

Ben climbed out behind her, but had busied himself making sure the bag of scrap he carried wouldn't spill over when he walked when she called for him. He looked up, stepped towards her and the spot on the window she'd wiped clear, and swore under his breath.

The snow was falling with a vengeance, and he knew he was sick of this weather. Going north likely hadn't helped. His eyes still on their surroundings, he suggested, "We can wait it out. Hopefully it'll stop soon." It wasn't exactly warm inside the ship, but at least it wasn't out there.

Rey just nodded at his suggestion. Sure, they'd wait it out. The snow storm didn't look that inviting, so she was glad he had not suggested going out in it. Rey wiped a little more of the window clear and stared at the snowstorm. She'd never seen one before; she'd seen snow, but not like this. Her mouth was slightly ajar as she watched the snow fall onto the ground below; she barely registered that she had leaned forwards slightly, trying to get a better look at everything.

"How long does it usually snow for?" She asked, looking over her shoulder at Ben. He probably had a better idea of these things than she did. She rubbed her hands together, maybe it was from watching the snow fall, or because they'd stopped moving around as much, but it was quite obviously cold inside the control room.

"My experience on this planet is that it snows for however long it pleases," Kylo replied, his eyes turning back towards Rey. She looked utterly enchanted by what was happening outside. When he looked, all he saw was an annoyance. He stepped up beside her, his expression skeptical. "You have seen snow before, right?"

Rey had seen snow before, but she hadn't appreciated it. Surely he remembered, though perhaps he didn't remember it for the same reason. That had been the day she and Finn had fought him in the forest. Rey didn't want to relive that, or bring it up. After all, it had been when she'd given him that scar on his face, and he'd thrown her against a tree.

"I've only seen it once." Rey said; her eyes fixed ahead; her hands leaned forwards onto the console panel, helping to anchor her forwards so she could get a better look at it all. "Before I left Jakku all I'd ever seen was sand, and sandstorms, so a lot of this is new." She supplied, looking side-wards on at him to hold his gaze for a moment before looking out at the snow again. As restricting as it was to them, she found the spectacle simply beautiful.

Realization came over him all at once, and he dropped his gaze and shook his head. The snow was a mere detail of that memory- something that had fallen far to the background. All he saw when he looked back on it was her and the Stormtrooper- of trying to kill them both. Of the words she'd spat in his face. He was suddenly very aware of the scar that she'd, though deservedly, torn into his skin. "Right. Sorry." He grit his teeth, trying to will the memory back into the recesses of his mind.

Instead, Ben focused forwards, watching the snow fall angrily. Maybe it was beautiful. He cleared his throat. "You're lucky, then. Pandora must have gotten tired of snowstorms when I got done traveling across it." There was a hint of humor to his tone, which may have been forced but was an honest attempt to move past the tone of his blunder.

Rey was suddenly aware that her heart had been beating a little quicker. She remembered that day quite well. As he dropped his gaze, her eyes traced where his scar was. Rey's expression faltered and she forced it back forwards, just giving a small nod at his apology. She didn't really want to talk about it, not now, not after everything which had passed between them.

She had not asked him much about his journey across Pandora; he'd made it in quicker time than she had, but upon reflection she had realised there had probably been a quicker way to get there. She'd used the bus for part of it too. "You had to travel in conditions like that?" She asked him, slightly surprised, turning her gaze back to him; she had only ever seen him in rain or sheltering. She hadn't realised he'd gone through snowstorms too.

"It wasn't this bad." He nodded out the window. It had been snowing when he met Sephiroth, the swordsman, and then more so when he'd taken shelter in the house where he'd met Annie. "I found shelter."

It was all he found worth saying on the matter. He'd survived.

He moved to sit at the edge of the console behind Rey. His mood had darkened, and he didn't want to take the moment of the snowstorm away from her. He would be content to watch her watch the storm and try to fight back the darkness in his mind, the shame he felt to be standing there with her.

Rey nodded in acknowledgement of what he said, and was only vaguely aware of him moving behind where she was. She was having fun watching the snowstorm develop outside the window. She kept having to brush the condensation back from the window, as it clouded up quickly with how closely she was pressed to the scene outside. It was beautiful, despite being so inconvenient. At least it would be quicker to find their way back into the town than it had been to find the ship in the first place.

However, it was quite cold next to the window, and after one last look, Rey anchored her weight back down so she had backed away from the window a little, a shiver running down her spine. As she tried to warm up her hands by rubbing them together, she caught sight of Ben, sitting a way off from her. She tilted her head slightly at him, as the expression he wore now was quite unlike the one he had shown her when they'd been taking apart the console together. Her heart thudded in her chest. She shouldn't have mentioned the time in the forest, when she'd first seen snow. "Are you okay?" She asked carefully, crossing over so she was stood next to him, the small of her back leaning into the console.

He did his best not to wear what he felt, but him and Rey were too in tune to each other for that to work very often. As she approached, he managed a smile for her and nodded. He reached out with the Force, expecting that familiar shiver of guilt coming off of her, and turned his head towards where she rested beside him. "What I did will never be your fault," he told her, lifting an eyebrow. The expression fell off him shortly after with a breath.

"I'm doing my best to carry those memories. They're just... heavy, sometimes. I'll be fine." Perhaps it would sound strange, but it was the best way to describe what he felt. He didn't want to hide from them- that would b a lie. He watched her face carefully, needing more than anything else for that sense of guilt to vanish.

As Rey perched on the side of the control panel, she could feel that his mood was darker than when she'd rubbed shoulders with him underneath the control panel. Rey could feel it radiating off him, like heat from a fire. It was becoming easier to sense his emotions, especially when they were so close. Given their proximity, his words didn't surprise her. She raised her gaze to meet his, understanding what he meant. Rey only inclined her head a little to show she had heard him.

The less said about that night, the better. It was not something she wanted to dissect with him. It had been a different circumstance in a completely different universe. Rey raised her eyes back to him with his next words. "You don't have to do it all by yourself." She reminded him. They both had their burdens to carry, but that didn't mean they had to keep the weight to their own shoulders. For her, she knew there was the responsibility of being the last Jedi, and understanding what that was and her place in a universe which she no longer inhabited. There was the burden of living with her past in Jakku and all the abuse and lonely nights there, as well as the overwhelming sense of loneliness.

Rey eyed where his scar lay again, but then found his eyes, "The past can be a heavy burden to carry by yourself." The guilt she had felt was ebbing away, replaced by a much softer tone and emotion.

He nodded and looked away, back towards the swirling snow outside. "I know." A moment of consideration, and then, "I know you're here. And that helps." He could feel her guilt leaving her, and it helped lift him, too.

It wasn't her burden to bear, though. She couldn't if she wanted to- it didn't exist in her soul to do the things he'd done. As good-willing as she was, he knew he'd have to find the answer to putting the past to rest on his own. These weren't things worth saying, and what he did say, he meant. So he left it there, and turned to look at her, a gentler smile on his lips.

    "Thank you, Rey."

When Rey had told him that he wasn't alone, in this world and when she'd been on Ahch-To, speaking to him from across the universe, she had meant it. After taking his hand and experiencing that closeness with him, it had only strengthened her resolve. So, when he told her that she was helping, she wasn't sure how to react. Rey wasn't sure what she was doing which was so helpful. She was smiling of course but she didn't know what else to say to him. There was an easing in the force around them which settled her, and helped to take away her own darker emotions.

As he turned, she moved her gaze so she was locking with his. "You don't have to thank me." Rey said quietly. She didn't feel like she had done much, really, he was the only helping her. She had offered to carry his burdens, but that came with the camp fire promise of words she had made twice. She was determined, but her intentions were sincere. Her smile was a little wider than his, though she tempered it, as the occasional throbbing from her cheek reminded her of the bruise which lay there. It wasn't the first time she'd thought he looked more like himself when he smiled.

He met her gaze, blinked. He felt differently. "Maybe. But take it anyways. Please." He could hardly see over the enormous horrors that she seemed ready to leave behind. And for that, he could scarcely believe she understood what she was saying. Maybe he knew where he wanted to be, but he wasn't there yet, and there seemed mountains to climb before he got there. He could never assume someone would voluntarily stick by him through that.

Dark eyes shifted back towards the window. A silence fell between them, broken when Kylo began to tell her about his trek through the elements, the old horse named Pepper, the people he'd met along the way. It helped him to forget that dark forest, the opposing glow of red and blue, the hissing of lightsabers cutting through cold air. Though he looked occasionally to Rey, Ben often watched the snow as he spoke, willing this new memory to replace the old.

An hour passed, maybe two, maybe three. At some point, Kylo had slid down to sit with his legs out and his back against the console, head tipped to the side in a shallow sleep. A shiver through his body pulled his eyes open, and he saw his breath cloud in front of him. The natural light coming from the windows was dimming, ever so slightly, and he sat up straight. "Rey?"

She'd taken his thanks gladly, and Rey had hung on his stories, about how he'd got to Pandora Town. Rey had resisted the urge to ask him questions every time he had drawn breath, no matter how hard that had been. She wished she had been lucky enough to have half his adventures on the journey; hers had been quite boring in comparison.

After his story, there was a silence between them, as the temperature continued to drop. Rey had been content to watch the snow for a while longer, losing track of all time. As she'd shifted her weight, she had watched Ben enviously after he'd fallen asleep; she had never been able to sleep as easily as that. Sleep wasn't something she'd ever found easy. She had been curled up on one of the tilted seats, her knees and legs tucked under her, trying to keep her body warm. After half an hour sat in silence, watching the snow falling, she'd decided to look around the ship, hoping to find something akin to blankets or any type of cover.

It didn't take her long to decide that the ship had to be some kind of cargo ship. There was nothing homely or personal about it. Looking round took next to no time; it was sizeable, but it wasn't that big. After an hour, she'd turned out several storage units, but been unable to find anything more substantial than bags. Keeping moving had helped keep her warm, and had killed some time.

When Rey had returned to the console room, she had hoped that the snow might have abated, but no such luck. It was still cold. However, she knew it wasn't as cold as it was outside. Ben was still asleep, and she was starting to feel a little fed up. Moving as quietly as she could, she looked up at the wiring of the console room, following the pipes with her fingers, trying to formulate a plan.

If the ship had crash landed, there was every possibility there might still be some fuel here, and that could heat the console room. Not well, but it would be better than it was at the moment. When Ben called out to her, she jumped. "Enjoy your rest?" She asked him before moving to take a panel off the side of the wall unit. The console and heating units were usually two different systems, in case one malfunctions. She hoped that was the case here, "I'm trying to jump start the heating system." She explained, glancing over to him briefly before pulling at wires and switches. It wouldn't be too hard to notice she was shivering.

A deep breath was pulled in and out of his lungs. Ben couldn't tell if he'd dozed off for ten minutes or hours. But it was freezing in the room, and he stood up quickly, wide awake.

Rey was nearby, fiddling with machinery. She looked near frozen, and a glance out the window shows the snow was not stopping- and the sun was going down. "You should have woken me," he said, feeling a twinge of guilt that she might have used his help during that time. He stepped towards her, not missing the tremble in her hands as she worked. It may have had something to do with her only protection against the cold being that thin woolen shawl she'd acquired. He was making her get something more substantial when they returned to town, he decided.

He shrugged off the insulated coat he wore, and without asking-- he knew better than to think she'd take it willingly- put it over her shoulders. "Don't." He warned her at the first sign of protest. "If you can't get it to work, I'll go out and bring wood for a fire. We're not getting back tonight."
