    Nov 17th, Year 108 || @Hal Jordan
It had been a decently busy night and Jo had been short staffed again. That was the difficult part about Pandora. It gave and it took away, ironically. For a couple of weeks she had been fully staffed and everything had been going smoothly. Everyone understood everything, she didn't have to train any new hires or balance new personalities around the hunter side of things. Which meant that once half her bartenders vanished all at once Jo was suddenly behind the bar that night. Serving drinks and getting through the turn over of patrons easily enough. Beers, shots, whiskey, a few mixed drinks for a few tables in the back.

The blonde had managed to find a breathing space between the crowds. It was still a work night. Normal people had to get to work later so typically the place cleared up a little after midnight except for the hard drinkers and the odd shifts. Things that she understood because she had seen plenty of it and had certainly worked odd hours. The Homestead started to clear out and only a few bodies were left at the bar, which gave Jo a chance to slow down. Gave her a chance to catch details she might not have before.

Or rather, one of the other bartenders went home and Jo was covering a new part of the bar that she hadn't been in charge of previously. She handed a beer off to a man who had been sitting there for awhile that night but then she paused because something had glinted off of his finger. It could have been anything, of course. Ark City was a bigger place than Cascade Bay had been. There were all sorts of things going on and cosplaying was a thing again. So it could have been anything at all.

Jo made a second pass. Glancing down at the ring as she served someone else just past him. The ring looked pretty solid and real. Not something cheap or made out of plastic. It was larger than the one she had worn but that only made sense because her hands were smaller. Jo was smaller than most people and she knew the rings were... well, it didn't matter. She had a feeling she knew what that was. In brightest day. She had said the words and yet it had vanished after a few months. Just like all the rest.

It was then that the hunter realized that she had been staring slightly and she purposefully looked up at the man before asking. "Anything stronger than a beer next time?" Plenty of suggestions that he was someone who was drinking hard that night. Maybe something more beer. Just a guess.

It had been a rather dull month for Hal. Centria had an abundance of trouble but enough heroes to deal with most of them. And those Hal did go after were small-time crooks, who barely put up a fight.

Thankfully they weren't his main focus. The Central Power Battery was and not a soul seemed to know of it. And that included Hal who'd been hunting for it.

The hunt wasn't going in his favor. Every turn he took lead him in the wrong direction. And had it not been for the amount of downtime he now had. Hal would have gone insane trying to figure everything out.

This kind of thing wasn't what he was used to. But drinking alone at a bar certainly was. Hal hadn't noticed the young lady staring at his ring until she spoke up. 'Just as I was thinking this beer wasn't strong enough.' While it wasn't true at the moment, had she given him a few minutes it would have been.

'Whiskey should do. Unless you'd like to recommend anything?' Given he hadn't drank here before. It was only natural for Hal to ask the bartender that question.

It was easy enough to read the situation but that was because the man across the bar looked like a million different hunters that had crossed through the front door of the Homestead. Looking like something vital had been taken from them. Finding their solace in the bottom of a bottle. Jo had been there a few times herself but she had never stayed there. Which was the biggest difference between most hunters and the petite blonde. She knew when to put the bottle down. But she wasn't the type of person to say that sort of thing to anyone she didn't know.

"Whiskey is the go to around here." There was another small smile at that and she turned to look over the whiskeys before plucking a middle of the road bottle. Not the cheap stuff but not the expensive bottles either. Something that was a little smoother and easy to work on while sipping drinks for the night. She poured a couple of fingers into a short glass and then plopped it in front of the man without much ceremony.

Except Jo didn't move away at that point either. The subject was circling around in her mind and it wasn't something that the blonde could put on the back burner very easily. Not with how much she missed the damn thing. So she stood there and finally broached the subject. "You say the oath back home or here in Pandora?" Jo tapped the bar next to the hand that had the ring on it. Perhaps she was being a little direct but all things considered, Jo really didn't know how to talk about this without flashing her own ring. Certain things didn't need to be spoken about in those cases but Jo... Jo still mourned the loss of the thing and it was difficult to ignore the fact that another Green Lantern was sitting right there.

It still could have been cosplay but the blonde didn't think so. Instead she put a hand on her hip and calmly waited for some kind of reaction, knowing that this was likely going to be a conversation and a half if he had no idea what had happened a year and a half back.

'Back home. Some years ago.' This was a first for him. Nobody had ever mentioned his oath to him in a bar, or at all in Pandora. The mention of it alone interested him. What would make a random bartender ask him of it? And did she possibly know more?

But one thing had caught his attention even more. What did she mean by saying the oath in Pandora? From what he'd gathered he was the only Member of the Corps who'd arrived in Pandora, at least as far as anyone could remember. How do you know about the Corps?'

Hal might have only partially shown it on his face but he was thrilled. He wasn't sure if she was merely just a Lantern fan or someone who actually knew of them. Both options were nice and while a fan was great. Hal would love nothing more than to talk with someone who knew of them.

Someone like that was always nice to chat with. Especially at times like this, what with his hunt for the Central Power Battery.

How do you know about the Corps? There was a little bit of a look and the blonde looked over at the other end of the bar for a second. She didn't know as much as he did, not if he was from the world where it all started. Jo's education had been brief and she had plenty of other things to worry about at the time. She had learned what she needed to and rolled with life as she always did.

"For three months, I was signed up." Jo spoke carefully as she explained, though it likely would have made little sense. She didn't even know if it was a common thing or not in any way, but what was common in Pandora? Everything and nothing all at once. "There was this time where rings of all the different corps were falling from the sky. Easy to find one that suited your personality, if you were lucky enough to find one." So many different colors, so many different people, and Jo had gotten irritated as hell with the yellow idiots.

She formed a fist with her right hand, glancing at the knuckles as if she expected a ring to be there. There hadn't been one in a very long time but that didn't change the fact that Jo had lived it. "Green was the one I found." And for three months, Jo Harvelle had been an actual fucking superhero. Which was something that the blonde still missed greatly.

There was a little bit of a sigh and she rolled her shoulders. "But like all of those Pandora things, they vanished after a bit." As was the way of most things in this crazy ass world.

'A bunch of rings fell from the sky? That must have been a blast.' Usually, when rings poured from the sky back home, it meant that swaths of Lanterns must have fallen. But from what he learned of Pandora that certainly hadn't happened. Maybe they showed up and all found themselves drained?

That was likely the best case scenario, knowing the worst would be for the Central Battery to have died out. 'How many of you were there? In the Green Lanterns, I mean. Back home we had roughly eight thousand of us.' Knowing how many other Lanterns were roaming around would likely help Hal get a better understanding of the Pandoran Corps.

Or at least the three months of it. He'd wanted to restart it or at least figure out what he could do. And learning its short and fading history was now key to it. 'And what did you do as a Lantern? Besides look great in green.'

It really hadn't been a blast but it had been a blast. It was complicated but most things in Pandora were complicated. Jo had figured that out a long time prior. Because that was something that everyone figured out sooner or later. The sooner they did, the easier their lives would be, and Jo was sure they would be better off because of it.

She listened to his question and his statements, wondering how many of the other corps there were if there were eight thousand Green Lanterns. There hadn't been that many in Pandora. There couldn't have been. Jo didn't have an exact number though. "It wasn't like we actually worked together in any way. We just sort of... ran into each other as we needed to." She had met Octavia that way, once upon a time, before she had vanished. They had worked together as a pair of Greens.

One eyebrow lifted slightly at the comment about looking great in green and Jo decided to ignore it for the moment. It could be a passing comment, it could not, she wasn't going to launch on the situation without anything else. "What I had to." She felt more comfortable having this kind of conversation with someone part of the Green and that was the funny part. She didn't even know this guy. But she knew the kind of person it took to be a Green Lantern and that meant there was a certain trust of character in that action.

"Rescued some people. Fought some Yellows." Which was pretty standard at the time. Yellow ringed bastards really liked to go around causing a mess for everyone else. "What sort of stuff you do now in Pandora?" Maybe that was the kind of thing he did. Rescuing people. Though she hadn't seen Yellows since all the rings had vanished on them.

Rescued some people. Fought some Yellows. Was what Hal had done for a long while during his early Green Lantern days. Of course things continued to grow more and more complicated as time went on. But it was nice to know she shared that with him.

'That's good. Sinestro Corpsmen are usually a bunch of rotten bastards.' And Hal had time and time again gone after them and their Leader. Who happened to be his former mentor. But now in Pandora, none of that mattered. Especially since he was the only ring slinger around.

'But I've been doing about the same. Helping those I can. Beating on those who deserve it. Recently had to leave my job to keep up with it all though. Duties above all I suppose.' That was a lie. Hal hadn't left his job, he'd been fired. Of course he wouldn't tell her that given they just met. But the reason was true. Being a Lantern meant he'd have to be all over the place and both his duty to Pandora and his job continued to collide. Until he lost one. The one he could live without.

Sinestro. That was what the Yellows had been. Of course, Jo had also done a bunch of crazy things at that time. Like contacting the Merlin for a tracing spell to figure out where the hell her ex had gone off to. Discovering him in the middle of the desert in a bunker basically left for dead and tortured. Finding out... it didn't matter anymore. None of it mattered. Jo hadn't seen Bellamy in almost a year and that was something that was a chapter of her past. It was just heavily linked to her time as a Green Lantern so she thought about it.

Jo nodded along to what he was saying. Quitting his job to help out was likely the sort of thing someone might do if they were able to pick up a little cash on the side and they were a good person. It didn't even occur to Jo that he might have been lying. Not that everyone was honest but that ring bought the man a lot of trust she normally wouldn't have given most other people.

"There's always something to pick up on the side though." Plenty of odd jobs and the like here in Pandora. Plenty of things that someone with a little extra power could easily handle. Jo tilted her head and thought for a moment. Her network was hunters through and through but sometimes she needed a little more heft to get a job done. "You the sort who is cool with a phone call in the middle of the night to come help out some people who might need it?" Her tone was careful but it was obvious that Jo was talking about something that wasn't exactly direct. It wasn't like she could pay or anything of that nature but if he was a Green, he might have been interested in helping people out all the same.

And sometimes the jobs paid. Just depended on what the hell was going on.

'If I'm not busy elsewhere I am.' Hal currently wanted to distract himself and this certainly would have helped. Of course there might have been a chance that he'd be out in space if she called, but that would have been dealt with when it came time.

'Of course by agreeing to this I'll be trusting you to point me in the right direction.' A large portion of Hal wanted to trust the nice young lady. But honestly even if she was a Green Lantern, that alone didn't mean he should trust her. They'd betrayed him more often then he could care for.

Of course to trust someone, he'd have to know her. And Hal hadn't even asked for her name yet. Which was odd given he usually started there when he spoke to women like her. Extending his hand out to her, Hal did just that. 'Names Hal Jordan by the way. Pardon my lack of manners.'

I'll be trusting you to point me in the right direction. There was a bit of a snort at those words. Trust was something that was a two way street but she hadn't been through the things that Hal had. The only interactions with greens had been someone she was close to. Someone she would have trusted completely. Jo had taken that oath to heart and she had believed in it.

The man held out his hand and introduced himself. Jo shook his hand firmly, as was her way, and then nodded slightly before returning the favor. "Jo Harvelle." There was a lot to weigh between the situation and there was a lot of trust about other aspects of the network that Jo ran. Details about the legalities of saving lives. Making sure people weren't hunting above their pay grade. There were plenty of things in Pandora that would have been capable of taking Jo out even while she had the ring and not every Lantern was created equally.

"There's a lot of stuff here in Pandora that don't like to play by decent rules. Things that don't have manners." The blonde was speaking carefully as she delved into it, just like she would a new hunter that had walked into the bar to get intel or help from Jo. "So are you the kind of person who will go no matter what or are you the kind of person who cares about... how things are handled about those without manners?" One eyebrow lifted. Jo wasn't talking about not introducing themselves. She was talking about the things that fed on others. That killed and just didn't give two shits what the law was.

Manners wasn't something Hal worried about. Hell there was few things he really did. A fight was something he'd never back down from. No matter how big or bad the thing was. Hal had spent years fighting all sorts of things. And it was his job. 'Of course I'll go. I'm sure I can handle anything that comes my way.'

What exactly Pandora had to offer was unknown. Things seemed to come in from all over. Beasts even he had never seen before. Having Jo given him a helping hand would have been a blessing. Even if it was merely logistical aid. At least that's what Hal thought this would be.

'I gotta ask. What kinda things do you usually deal with in Pandora. Besides douchebags with abilities and the generic mythical beasts.' He had gone against a few things during his time here. But Jo seemed to know more about Pandora. If she could tell him more, He'd love to know.

She had been asking for the legalities, to try and see if he was someone who would care about breaking the law or not. Which was a pretty important thing when you were dealing with new hunters. Because someone could easily wind up pointing a finger at Jo if they got caught and she wasn't about to let such a thing get in the way of her job. Hunting or the Homestead.

So even though she was sure he could handle anything that came his way, that didn't mean he was going to be smart about it. Still beggars couldn't be choosers and Jo needed more high powered hunters to help out in bad situations. The blonde mostly had normal humans on the roster and that could make things difficult in a tight situation.

"Well back home we have problems with..." Jo trailed off for a second leaning on the counter with one elbow as she considered her options. What to say. "Vampires, angels, demons, werewolves, evil genies... really the list goes on and on and on." She smiled ever so slightly as she explained. Speaking about the past was a safe zone because nothing that happened there could be held against her in Pandora.

"All those sorts of things like to hide in plain sight and feed off people. Nothing main stream ever knew about it. Never went public. Anyone who talked about it was considered crazy." Animal attacks were the main explanation but there could be other things as well. "I find that a lot of things in Pandora like to fall back into old habits." Herself included. Hunting was the family business after all.

'Right. Animal attacks, that's a interesting one.' Hal wasn't sure just how all these things could be keep hidden. Of course in his world, the evil things liked to attack things in public. And most heroes seemed to be fun with being out and about. With all to see. Even if they did hide their true identities.

'I suppose everyone ends up falling back into what they know. Or what reminds them of home huh.' For a bit Hal had something different, his time in Elysium was eye opening, truly it was. He had everything he'd dreamed of as a child. But that life wasn't his. He'd spent years being Hal the Green Lantern, so much so that that had become who he'd always be. It sucked that he had to learn that by ruining something he'd dreamed of. But unfortunately life was like that. And Hal wasn't made to live a happy and simple life. It was his job to ensure others were able to.

I suppose everyone ends up falling back into what they know. Which was really what it was, wasn't it? Jo had fallen back on the family business. If he had been a lantern before, then he was likely just following his old path all over again. Which meant he was someone she could call in a tight spot. Jo fished out the Homestead's business card from her pocket. Something she normally used for vendors and the like, people who would need to contact the main business line for actual legit business reasons.

"Something like that. Easier to fall back on what you know when it's all you've known." There were people who adapted and adjusted in this world. People who weren't as stuck in their ways as Jo was. Jo had done caravan guarding at the start of everything and she had wandered through the wilderness with caravans too big to fit through portals before Pandora had it's sudden kick forward by a hundred years. The blonde didn't quite like to think about that but who would in her shoes? She had died.

Still Jo pulled a pen out from the apron she was wearing and scrawled another number on the back of her card. A personal cell phone. The one she used for basic communication with hunters. "You're serious about what I'm talking on, text that one." She slid it across the bar to Hal and put the pen back. "There's some rules involved. But that can be discussed in more detail later on." Not out in the open at the Homestead. Only after hours, before hours, or upstairs in the office. And she wasn't inviting Hal up until she got to know a little bit more about the guy. One step at a time.

Rules. One of many words Hal failed to take serious. But he wasn't going to tell her that. No he took her business card, and he'd do just what she said. Hal did his job well but as all those who brought rules before him in the past. Jo would took find out one his his weak points, being told what to do.

'Alrighty. Business partners it is.' He added jokingly as he put her card in one of his jean pockets. 'Now that we've talked about all the formal things. Lets chat for real.' This was one of Hals newer tactics and it served as a way to get to know more about a person. All it required was that Jo was willing to talk.

'Who is Jo?' Of course Hal didn't expect her to tell him. Without him sharing who he was. 'I know you might not want to tell me just yet. So I'll start. Hal Jordan. I'm a pilot and a boxer. Spent years in space as a GL. And I'm great at it. Only thing i'm better at is being a pilot.' And he was cocky beyond belief, but he certainly wasn't going to tell her that. She'd find out listening to him.

Everything in the world had rules, even if they were unspoken. Jo just believed in being up front with the people she needed to work with on a hunting level. So that everyone knew what to expect from her and what she expected from them. Putting a toe out of line meant you were booted from the group, which meant you got less support and less help. That was something that Jo kept a firm handle on because she had to. Hunters were the sort that needed those things to keep order in all the chaos. To keep calm when shit was going down. Jo treated everyone as similarly as she could.

Lets chat for real. One eyebrow lifted at that line, only to be joined by the second when he asked who she was. There might have been a little humor in the expression but as he started in on himself and bragging, Jo was pretty sure she had him figured out. She came across a lot of personalities at the bar and she had always dealt with bigger than life people. Which was what Hal seemed to be with his humble brag of sorts. Except it really wasn't humble at all. He was a braggart, had an ego, and was cocky. There were plenty of those types of people in Pandora because everyone always thought they were the best. He even mentioned piloting twice.

"Well, I own the Homestead." That was probably the best starter because it was the thing that Jo was most proud of. She glanced around the bar at that stage with a bit of a smile on her lips. It really felt like an accomplishment at this stage. "I've been in Pandora for years. I'm nearly a perfect shot. I collect weapons for fun. And I was raised in the life." Which was pretty much all the basic details about Jo. She knew how to use a multitude of weapons, knew how to kill a bunch of different monsters, and had lived a bit of a militia life style for far too long, but that was easing up. She was getting into a normal that made a difference to the blonde.

What else would he want to know? Because Jo wasn't about to play twenty questions with a stranger, Green Lantern or not.

'Okay. A lifelong fighter. I like it.' Hal had met a few people who were raised to fight evil and they generally were the kind of people he could rely on. He didn't know much about Jo but she like a decent soul.

Hal thought that he was a good judge of character. Even if that wasn't always true. She only seemed to want the best and anyone who helped him was a friend. Especially in a universe without the Corps. 'I'm gonna be all over the place for the most part. But I'll do my best to prioritize anything you send me. Since you got a whole system up and running.'

Generally, Hal went around personally investigating rumors and other tales in Pandora. Both in space and planetside. Sure it wasn't the best way to do it but it was the only way that seemed to work. But boy was he going to be glad that Jo was going to be texting him things on Pandora. It'd certainly save more lives and ensure he did his job better.

Jo was a lifelong fighter. She had never gotten into the grit of it until she was an adult, mostly because of her mother's protective nature, but she was a natural. Jo had been given plenty of the right skills growing up and she had learned to put them to good use once she was out on her own. That was something that Jo was proud of. In fact, she was damn proud of how she ran things, how she kept things going, and how she kept everyone in line. Just like her mother would have. There were plenty of days where Jo realized she was becoming more like her mother, but really that wasn't too bad. She just had to be better than her mother. That was what Ellen would have wanted anyway.

She smiled slightly as he started in on prioritizing things for Jo. "Alright then." She did have a system up and running. The entire point was to be... Bobby Singer. Really, Jo felt like she was a mix of Bobby and Ellen, but that was alright. Those were people to admire. Real people who did real things to help others. No matter how difficult it was. That was who Jo was too. She would always do the difficult thing even if it meant putting her life on the line, ring or no ring.

"You got a preference? Rescues, taking care of problems directly?" She didn't know his strengths. She didn't know what he preferred. Oddly enough Jo tried to play to that because there was so much going on in Pandora. There was always something for someone and if she knew how to use a person best, that was exactly what Jo would do. "Any specialties?" She smirked slightly as she said that because Jo was a woman of specialties. She knew how to kill a shit ton of things in Pandora and she was always learning new things.

'Just about anything. If one of yours needs some big guns I'll be there. If you got a beast running around somewhere, I'll go after that too.' Hal himself wasn't really sure if he had any real specialties. More often then not he'd do anything and everything. The only constant was the fact that he'd be doing it all fast and probably ill-prepared.

Of course, he couldn't tell her he didn't have any real specialty, so Hal decided to keep on staying he was an all around kinda guy. 'A few of the other back home are good at this one thing. Or good at that one thing. I'd say I'm good at mostly everything. Fighting for sure. Key on the mostly part.' The way he said it spoke his truth for him. Few people back home would have told Hal he was good at anything, even if he was. Partially thanks to his ego and personality but also thanks to the fact that rarely conjured anything out of this world. And while he lacked in an incredible imagination that some had.

Not a soul could say that Hal didn't have enough willpower to get what he wanted done.
