She was moving so quickly she nearly splatted right into the door to his shop, but somehow managed to get it open before that happened. As soon as she had, she was inside, eyes bright and searching.

"Doctor! Doctor, where are you, I've done it, I've found a way to get your memories back!" And she had never felt such a lightness. This had been a terrible burden on her for... well, for as long as it had been since she'd found him here. Every lead had ended up failing her, but finally she'd landed on one that couldn't. "Where's the TARDIS? We're going now." And that was an order.

The Doctor had most definitely not been up all night. He had not been up all of the previous night either. Nope. He had certainly not been spending that time trying to work out if average velocity of an unladen swallow was as it had been quoted in the oh so famous Monty Python miniseries that his memories had dragged up from his days on earth. He had not spent the time trying to find objects which were like swallows and running it through the data base to try to work it out and then adding in the variable of the coconut, and the possibility that two might be carrying it at once. That film had got to him in ways that he was ashamed of. Especially the ending.

So, when Clara burst through the door, he looked a little unkempt, as his hair was quite wild and he was holding a coconut with a string around its middle. He stared at her for a moment, calculations moving around in his head as easily as one might see pictures or images.

Memories? Memories! He dropped the coconut and came out from behind his desk, with the TARDIS key. "Right, right!" With a little more urgency than was actually needed. He was unlocking the door before he thought to even look back to her, fuelled by the adrenaline of her entrance and feeling like he had gotten his second wind from the complete lack of sleep, "Where exactly are we going and how can you get my memories back?" If this was something to do with wizards he was putting his foot down.

Clara paused in her urgency only to notice the Doctor's state, that including the coconut in his hand. Her eyes squinted a bit, her head tipping to the side, her lips even opening to laugh-- but stopped herself and waved a hand. She likely didn't want to know.

She bounced a couple steps to stand behind him as he got the TARDIS open. "A cave in Cascade Bay. There's a fountain of enchanted water that restores lost things." She beamed at him. "Memories included. All you've got to do is take us there, and drink it."

A cave. Right. A cave in Cascade Bay. The Doctor's mind was whirring over the details, like a well oiled machine as he took in every syllable which Clara offered up to him. He had resolved long ago to give everything a go if it meant trying to unlock his memories about Clara in this strange place. However, he couldn't fight down the fact that he was inherently sceptical and had a certain lack of optimism, especially about anything which sounded vaguely magical or legendary. It was like Atlantis all over again. He'd eaten his words then; he felt like he might here too, but he couldn't get rid of the niggly feeling.

"Just drink it? No enchantment, incantation, ceremony?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. It wasn't aimed at her particularly, more the ridiculous nature of Pandora which he was still struggling to come to terms with. This sounded deceptively simple and he couldn't help feel concerned that this might not be as easy as Clara was making out. He inhaled quickly as he threw the TARDIS into flight mode. He had locked onto the cluster of caves in Cascade Bay, assuming that would be around where their destination might be. Perhaps they'd have to do a little bit of exploring, though he wasn't adverse to that as such. The Doctor couldn't help but feel impressed though, Clara had come to him with this. If it did prove fruitful, it would be just one more thing about her that he found endearing.

When the TARDIS landed, he pulled the screen over to his side of the console and tapped it in a impatient manner until some of the lines whirred into actual text. "There you go. Cascade Bay. Caves." He squinted. "Right, all we have to do now is find the water; did your source give any instructions or directions?" Perhaps that was too much to ask.

"Just drink it," she assured him. That was what the book had said, at least: a catalogue of all known, notable locations in Pandora, its wildernesses included. The book was handwritten almost like a personal journal, by someone Clara assumed had been an explorer here. It had been tucked away in the library among everything else, and she'd overlooked it for some time.

When the TARDIS had landed, she looked to the Doctor and frowned. "It said a magical fountain in the caves of Cascade Bay. Certain memory restoration abilities. Knowing anything else would just be greedy," she pointed out. They were the Doctor and Clara Oswald-- they could find this cave. She trotted over to the door of the TARDIS, and a moment later had it opened to let the salty air of the bay touch her skin. She took a long moment to breathe it in, let herself settle.

She needed this win. She needed her best friend back.

A moment later she was trotting to the edge of a rocky outcrop, the deep blue water splashing about perhaps fifteen feet below. But between her feet and that water was a narrow cave opening, the rock formed so as to offer a clear, if slippery, way down to it. Clara moved forward as soon as she had taken stock of what lay before her, sliding down a steep slope to put herself level with the entrance. "C'mon, then!" she yelled back to the Doctor, glancing back for him as salt water sprayed at her back.

The Doctor had his reservations. He had his reservations about this whole place and everything in it. There wasn't much he actually trusted about Pandora or the nature of the place in general. He knew that there were prepositions of magic here and suggestions that it was all normal somehow. Now, the Doctor didn't prescribe to any of that- in fact he thought it was a bit ridiculous. A part of him was pushing down that inhibition here though- he needed this to work and he needed to get his memories back. It still confused him as to why the memories of her in particular were those missing. It just didn't make sense to him.

It didn't take too long to enter into the cavern and find a small pool which had water which seemed to glisten against the walls of the place. It looked like something you only saw in movies or TV shows. It didn't help the Doctor's scepticism but he didn't want to let it show on his features. It wasn't really the place for it and he didn't want to put Clara off. It was worth a try; sure it was. What was the worst that could happen?

He didn't want to brace that with an actual answer.

He stood by the side of the pool then looked to Clara in an expectant sort of way, "So I'll just, drink this then?" He asked a little dumbfounded. Was it really just going to be this easy?

The Doctor liked to be skeptical of things he didn't come up with. "I understand the skepticism, but really, it's just water," she huffed at him. She nodded impatiently and waved a hand at him to urge him on. "If it doesn't work, it doesn't work, but just give it a shot, would you?" God, he could be thick-headed sometimes. "For me." Perhaps a weightless statement, but she begged it all the same.

For her. Right. A stranger to him, mostly. The Doctor was taking an uncharacteristic leap of faith; it felt something akin to what he'd had with River once, but at least then he'd known that he would grow into what they had. Here, it should have all come flooding back in heartbeats. The Doctor looked at Clara then wordlessly went towards the fountain. There didn't look to be anything like a cup. Of course there wasn't; that would be too easy. So, he crouched over the side of it and plunged his head into the waters, drinking it in and thinking of his memories, wishing them back.

He could have stayed under longer than he chose to; Clara didn't mention any specifics but he stood up straight, washing off the drips of spare water rolling down his cheek bones. For a moment there was no change and there was disappointment rooting to the pit of his stomach. However, all at once, everything changed.

Something shifted in his head, it was so uncomfortable and intrusive that he stood back, letting out a sharp gasp as memories flooded back into his head. It wasn't like a gentle trickle, in so much that it was much more like a dam had broken. For those moments he couldn't speak, he just remained rooted to the ground, memories and experiences processing.

Eventually he exhaled and his eyes set on the woman in the cave with him. "Clara?" He said, with a familiarity and gentleness which he had not yet afforded her in Pandora. The Doctor looked at her now with eyes that could appreciate this Impossible Girl in front of him. His Clara.

Clara watched as he submerged his entire head into the water, apparently wanting to be thorough. She, unknowingly, had started shifting back and forth between her feet anxiously, wringing her hands in front of her in the following moments. If it didn't work, that would be fine, she told herself. She'd just find something else. They would fix this, they would.

But then his eyes found hers, and she saw in them everything she'd been needing to see for months. Recognition. Care. "Doctor? Did it work?" She took a step towards him, needing only the briefest confirmation before she jumped and wrapped her arms around his neck. Not a hugger. Well that'd be too bad.

The Doctor felt the swell of these new, no, retrieved memories wash over his mind. It made him realise just how much he had been missing, now he had got it back. He processed the memories in the blink of an eye, though he would take time later to examine them for their full emotional impact. Right now, he was just glad to have them again and glad to tell her that, yes, it had worked. It was something he could only affirm through a wide smile and a small inclination of his head.

Now that he had his memories back he could feel genuine pride running through his features when he looked at her. She'd done this, this wonderful woman in front of him had looked for the solution that even his Time Lord mind had not been able to put a solution to. She'd brought them to this conclusion and he couldn't be more grateful. However, being him, he just stood there, rubbing his hands together with the slight anxiety as a realisation dawned on him. The Doctor was fairly certain of what Clara would do next.

Clara swallowed, her eyes already warm and wide and glistening, before she took the steps necessary to fling herself at him. That awkward look on his face, anticipating what was coming, didn't slow her at all. Her arms tightened around his neck, and she buried her face in his shirt.

"Doctor, my Doctor," she murmured there, tightening her hands into fists in his clothes. She pulled back only to look into his face, tears blurring her eyes.

Then her brow furrowed. "Did you happen to remember why you forgot me, you daft old man?" She demanded stubbornly. It was offensive, truly.

As soon as she moved forwards, the Doctor, reunited with memories stolen from him, knew what was coming from the woman in front of him. He stiffened and held his arms out at odd angles as he was embraced fully. She had an extraordinary amount of strength for someone so slight and small, though he wasn't surprised by it, not now. "Clara." He said softly, shifting slightly, waiting a few moments before lightly tucking his arms around her shoulders.

The Doctor shifted, then drew back a little, shifting through memories. He could see Clara and could see the wager. Her memories or his. A frown tugged at his lips and he toyed with a moment with telling her. He'd already nearly ruined his relations with Rose from withholding information from her about who he was. He knew Clara's temperament and was sure that she would appreciate the truth, no matter how harsh it was. "There was a choice. Either you forgot me, or I forgot about you. Only one of us won, Clara." He said solemnly, feeling his age was showing in his features.

A choice. You forget me, or I forget you. Clara's expression froze, and then melted into horror. She slid back from his arms, lips parted.

"But... but that doesn't make any sense, Doctor. I... I didn't forget, but then, why don't I remember that happening? I was about to die before I was brought here, there's no way it happened after." The answer clicked for her a second later. She turned her head a bit, eyes narrowing. "Did you... did you save me?"

She had taken it as fact this entire time that she would have died back home, given a second more before that terrible raven. Was it possible that wasn't how she ended?

Now he had his memories he could remember everything. He could remember what had happened on Gallifrey and all of those hundreds of thousands of years in that prison, breaking out bit by bit. The Doctor looked down at Clara, the weight of those memories obvious in the dark of his pupils. The corner of his mouth twitched and he left a pause after she spoke. "Spoilers." He said, though the lightness of his tone and the fact that the corners of his mouth moved upwards ever so slightly would tell her all that she needed to know in his eyes.

If they were to return home there was every possibility she would still live out those memories he had swirling round in his head and so he did not want to tell her all of the details. She would appreciate that, surely?
