With no warning to be found, a blur of color appeared midair and from it came Ambrose's form, a gasp escaping his lips, a look of frenzied panic on his face, gasping for air for the sheer task of trying to remember how to breathe. Hunched over himself, hands gripping his knees, fingertips digging in, the man breathed in deep and then out again, his mind in a hundred different directions. And understandably after what he had just witnessed.

She won't go hunting for you.

Ambrose choked out a sound, a sound like somewhere between a scream and a sob.

    She doesn't care that much.

He had begged. He had begged for help and he had gotten nothing. A name. Salem. That was all. He had begged and he had been abandoned, assured that it wouldn't happen again. Ambrose was still alive thanks only to the gifts that the Dark Lord himself had granted him the night he had signed his name in the Book of the Beasts, but somebody else was dead and he swore that he could still smell the ash and the soot and the burning skin. They had been so close. That could have been him.

    It could have been him.

There was a sound somewhere to his right, and Ambrose whirled around, throwing his arms in front of his face and stumbling backward as a wave of panic hit him, the kind of panic that he had no hope of controlling in his state.

Thomas had only been in Pandora for a week and here he was in a town in Crystal Vales. He had slowly come to terms with the fact that he was brought to a strange place by a capricious being right after knowing he would have a place in the human world. It was an incredibly disappointing situation, one that he was still bitter about but he had to put it aside and deal with the many issues he encountered in Pandora. This place certainly offered many issues as he went around Crystal Vales with the friends he had just made and they took up his mind almost entirely.

As Thomas walking in a less crowded town of Crystal Vales, a blur of colour suddely shew up in the air. Thomas stopped walking immediately. Before he could react, something came tumbling out from the blur of colour. It was a dark-skinned man. The man hunched over then let out a sound of so much pain that Thomas had no doubt that what he just experienced was awful.

Thomas approached, wanting to help a person in pain but perhaps thinking that Thomas was a threat, the man threw his arms up and stumbling backward. Thomas took a step back and looked in pity at the pathetic figure overwhelmed by fear and panic before his eyes.

Thomas held his hands up, hoping to show the man that he meant no harm before saying,

"I don't want to hurt you. If it is within my power, I will try to help you."

"No," he snapped back, his eyes wide, his hands held in the air in warning. Warning to get back, to stay away, as thought any form of close proximity at all would bring her back. As though she might turn that corner down the street there and just like that, he would be on the move again. "You can't help me, there is no helping!"

    If Ozpin couldn't help him--

But that wasn't it. It wasn't a 'couldn't' situation. Ozpin wouldn't help him. His theory that staying away would help, that it would magically fix everything, that she wouldn't set her sights on him any longer, wasn't working.

The man did not want Thomas to help. Thomas could leave the man here to deal with his issues alone but he felt that it would be wrong. He looked around the street. There was no one but himself and a hysterical, traumatized man. He waved his right hand around and said, "There is no one here around but me. It is possible that whoever hurt you has let you go." It was a lie to soothe the heart. Thomas knew very well that there were people who still kept close eyes on you even when you had been let go. He remembered the people that left the brugh only to be struck dead very quickly by the fairies.

Thomas might not be able to help the man but if the man was going to die very soon, he might as well die after a few hours, a few days or a few weeks of bliss. There was nothing that a few good drinks could not help. Dying, at least, seemed better when you were slightly drunk. That was what he thought although his opinions could be wrong for he never had been this traumatized before.

"Are you wounded or hurt?" Thomas looked at the body of the man to check for any signs of injuries.

ambrose laughed. a desperate sort of laugh as the other man, this stupid man, told him that his pursuer may have let him go. "you sound exactly like him," he spat, pacing back and forth in front of him. he didn't appear injured. the way he carried himself was not the way an injured man carried himself but the way a scared man, a man drowning in his own fear, carried himself. he wished more than anything that he was brave, but he had never been given the chance to be brave. after seventy-five years of house arrest, ambrose hadn't been ready to be released into the world with somebody like her.

"the best thing that you could do for yourself right now is to walk away from me. she found me before, she can find me again, and--" ambrose clenched his jaw, picturing the burning body of a man he had just met, crystal clear in his mind. "and--"

Thomas needed not to worry about the man being injured or hurt because the wounds seemed to be inside, not outside.

    "Your sound exactly like him."?
Thomas wonder who was this him that the man was talking about. If he had to guess, that person had to be someone who gave this man bad advices or someone who had met a bad end. "Do I? What happened to him then?"

Thomas had met his fair share of hostile individuals since he first got to Pandora. They did not seem very powerful and he had managed to run away or defeated them. However, from what he had heard, he knew that there were far more dangerous villians in Pandora. He had not met them but it appeared that this man had met one. The woman this man was talking about had to have resources and influences for her to find people so easily. "Why are you here if she is so popular? Did she let you go?"

Thomas had known from his experiences that letting go might be a way for a cat to keep on playing with their little rat. He, however, did not say it out loud but instead, said, "What will she do? Do you think she will hurt anybody who comes near to you? Do you intend on living in somewhere isolated for the rest of your stay in Pandora?"

what happened to him? wasn't that the question of the month? what had happened to ozpin? theoretically, he was in content. not theoretically at all, actually. he had answered his text messages to assure that exactly what had happened tonight would never happen. how wrong he had been, and at that point, ambrose didn't know what to do. beg him some more? beg him to tell him what was going on? to tell him how he could guarantee his own safety? because ozpin staying far away clearly wasn't working.

"let me go?!" he shot back. "no! i got myself out of there!" he wasn't sure why that question had made him so angry. the assumption that he couldn't have handled himself, perhaps. or maybe it was a bit of a jab toward ozpin, some sort of mental reassurance that he didn't need him, he didn't fucking need him.

    but he did. so badly.

isolated. that word caught him by surprise and ambrose hesitated, staring at the stranger wide-eyed. that was it. he needed to go somewhere far away from here. somewhere she would never have thought to find him. but he didn't know the world, he didn't know where to go.

"... where can i go?" he eventually whispered, wide eyes glued to the man, expectant for some sort of answer. "where do people go ... when they don't want to be found?"

Thomas first assumed that the woman had let the man go away because this man seemed to hysterical to plan his escape. However, the man might have special abilities he knew nothing about and a cornered rat (even one who was scared and agitated) could do a lot of things to free itself from the maw of a cat. He seemed angry at Thomas's misunderstanding but it was understandable that a man had strong emotions when he was in panic.

Thomas was slightly taken aback when the man asked him where to go. He had only been in Pandora for a week, he was not the most knowlegeable person when it came to Pandora's locations. He thought over all the places he had been to. Pandora was a wide place with many different towns and villages. Every place could be a place to hide if you knew how to hide.

"A city." After much thinking, Thomas finally said. "The more populous, the better. In a city, there are thousands of people. As long as you cover your track, hide your identity carefully and do not draw any attention to yourself, it is very hard for someone to find you."

"I just came from a city," he ground out, his frustrating bleeding through. By then, his pacing had stopped and he was looking directly at the man. His eyes drifted a bit and he shook his head. "No ... I need to go somewhere far away ..." His mind considered the wastes. There was nothing out there. So little civilization in the endlessness of the wastes that she would theoretically have a more difficult time finding him. He had heard, once upon a time, of a diamond in the rough so to speak. A place secluded from the rest of the world, sitting in a corner on its own somewhere. It sounded peaceful in some way.

    Free of her, maybe.

    "Where are we now?"

"Who is the woman that you are so afraid of?" A woman who could easily find a man among millions had to be someone with influences, with eyes and ears everywhere. Maybe someone with some special abilities that made her formidable and knowledgeable. Thomas was not afraid of her because he did not know about her so his question was out of curiosity.

Thomas knew that the man had decided to go to somewhere secluded from his words and the look in his eyes. "A town in Crystal Vales. It is to the North of Cascade Bay. You can reach Cascade Bay after walking a few days."

Ambrose didn't answer him. He didn't answer him because he had no answer to give. If he knew who she was, maybe things would have been different. If he could put more to her than a name, then maybe he could have handled all of this somehow. But he had nothing. Only a name and the knowledge that even Ozpin was too cowardly to come out of his hole and help him. He didn't know who she was, where she came from, how much she was really capable of, or what he could even do to save himself.

    But he could certainly try.

North of Cascade Bay. That was a name he knew, it was a place he had been more than enough times and he knew for a fact that there were portals there to places he hadn't been before, places that could take him one step closer to somewhere she may never find him. By that point, Ambrose's eyes had drifted away, thoughtful in a wide-eyed and frantic sort of way and by the time he looked back, a decision had been made. He didn't think to thank him for whatever thoughts he had brought to mind, his head was too deep in a frenzy for that, so he uttered a pair of foreign words, hands flinging across his chest once more. "Lanucae magicae!" In a blur of color, Ambrose left just the way he came, leaving nothing at all where he once stood.

    THE END
