It was tempting to call this completely perfect and to Rey, it was. She sat back as the sand shifted and gave way to her weight as she moved back, looking at the scene around her. True to Ben's word, they'd come back to the beach now the weather had changed as they had found themselves in summer. The time had rolled forwards so fast. So much had happened since the last time they had headed out this way, but here they were. It wasn't as warm as the hottest days on Jakku, instead, the weather was pleasant. She had used sun protection, which she had found out about recently, which meant she didn't need to cover up every inch of skin like she had when she had scavenged on Jakku. Pandora really was an extraordinary place sometimes with the things they had. So, with the sun-cream already applied, she was ready to enjoy their day at the beach. They'd been fortunate enough to find what seemed to be a little enclosed part of the beach- it was a small sandy area between two rocky sides of the beach, which gave them privacy and no one had ventured out this way yet. It was nice, and it would have been obvious to anyone that Rey was enjoying herself immensely.

She had brought a change of clothes, but for now she just had a light chiffon dress on over her swimming costume. She fully expected to go swimming at some point during this excursion as that was what Ben had promised her last time they'd been out this way. Even the thought made her radiate her excitement. The weather was much warmer now and she fully intended to make the most of it. They were sat on a large beach towel and she shifted a little towards Ben, planting a soft kiss on his cheek, "This is amazing." She breathed against him, before settling back in her original position.

The tide was cool and rolled onto the sand in gentle dribbles. Rey sat up and found her smile widening, it was nice to just sit and enjoy being here with Ben. They'd both been so busy recently, he'd been working at the SUF and she had recently opened up her business and it so far was doing fairly well; it kept her busy enough. Today was a bit of a treat for the pair of them, a chance for them both to just relax and be with each other. "You promised that you'd show me how to swim, remember?" Rey grinned round at Ben, turning into him, echoing the last time they'd been here.

Ben sat on the large towel beside Rey, dark eyes squinting against the sun out towards the water. The breeze that rolled over his bare shoulders was warm, heating his skin- the kiss pressed to his cheek by Rey even warmer. He smiled and turned his head towards her, using a hand to push the hair from his face. His shirt lay discarded behind him, and his forearms rested on his knees where he sat.

"Mhm," he agreed, watching her settle on the towel in that soft dress of hers. The sound of the waves rolling gently nearby played in a calming loop. He felt Rey shift towards him, and met her grin with a slightly raised brow in anticipation of whatever she was about to bring up.

Of course- the swimming lessons. He chuckled warmly in his throat, and glanced towards the water again. "I did, didn't I?" He replied thoughtfully. Ben rose a moment later, and turned to extend a hand down towards Rey. "Well, come on, then." He nodded towards the blue water, his smile remaining.

Rey wouldn't have been that surprised if, even without the bond, Ben could feel the excitement radiating off her. She couldn't work it down, no matter how hard she tried, not that she was committing herself to it that much. This was something like out of a dream to her; the warm weather, the sea and most of all being here with Ben and having him as her family. When she sat back and considered that she had been all alone on Jakku less than a year ago, it was overwhelming.

Swimming was the next step; she already knew she'd love the water but being able to swim would help that enjoyment. Rey beamed as Ben took up the suggestion and she pulled her dress over her head so that she was wearing just her swimming costume. With the dress on the towel, she took Ben's hand, just about holding back the impulse to run straight into the sea.

Rey didn't stop walking until the water came up to her waist; the water was so clear she could still see her lower half and where she was walking without any anxieties. She enjoyed the sensation of it, using her free hand to scoop through the water. Maybe her reactions might have seemed odd or childish to anyone else, but she knew Ben understood how much this meant to her. "I love this." She had already decided that much, but now she looked to Ben expectantly, wondering what would come next, and how they'd begin.

Ben was... mostly going to wing this. He could barely even remember being taught to swim himself, it had been so long ago, but he followed Rey as she fearlessly started into the water. The water that hit her waist settled at his hips as she came to a stop, bubbling with excitement that he could feel as much as he could see it on her face. It drew the smile on his lips wider.

"Me too," he assured her, before looking down at the water and wondering how to begin. "Okay, so... first. You've got to get in the water all the way. I'll help." And with that, he bent down to the water slightly, put his hands together, and splashed her across her front.

The sensation of the water brushing up along her made her smile widen. She grinned and dipped both hands into the water, drawing shapes underneath the slowly ebbing waves. This was lovely. The waves were much calmer than they had been a few months ago when they'd come here for the first time. Rey wanted to move and be out in amongst the water all at once but there was some apprehension there. Despite her excitement she knew that it would probably be helpful to know what to do, should she no longer be able to touch the bottom. Right, so she needed to get deeper into the water, but Ben obviously had other ideas first.

"Ben!" She tried to look annoyed but her smile betrayed her. So, never one to be outdone, she used her arm to skim some water in his direction, aimed at soaking his front. She hadn't given up when they'd been set on coating each other in paint, at least here the stakes were lower. They wouldn't have to clean up in the same way they had on that day. Rey scooped some more water in his direction with both of her hands.

Then, fearing he might retaliate she ducked away from Ben, into some of the deeper water and sunk down quickly, only holding her breath for a few moments until she stood up again so that the water hung around her shoulders.

"Oh, alright, alright-" He'd turned his head away and lifted his hands against her retaliation, but he deserved it in every sense and didn't raise a complaint. Instead, once her onslaught stopped, he dove after her with a laugh on his lips. But she was a quick thing, his Rey, and she slipped past his grasp and into the deeper water before he had a chance.

Ben laughed warmly as he moved closer, but raised his hands to show he meant no further harm. "This is serious, Rey. Come on." He scolded her jokingly, and lowered himself up to his neck in the water. He pushed up from his feet, and began to swim lazily around Rey, half way around flipping onto his back to do the same. He tried to focus on his movements more than he usually would, knowing the sensations of them would drift across their bond. It's easy, he murmured across their bond. You'll do great.

His feet found the bottom again, and he straightened with a smile and stepped towards her. An hand touched her waist gently. "You try. Float, and pull the water with your hands." Was that an adequate explanation? Probably not. He was glad their bond hopefully explained through sensation what he couldn't with words. "I won't let go of you," he went on, meeting her eyes in assurance.

Hazel eyes watched Ben intently, looking for his next move and already thinking how to counter it. She smirked at him, though stayed quite firmly planted where she felt secure, like she could feel she could touch the bottom and stay standing. There was still a sense of unease about going in any deeper or any movement which might make her feet leave where they had been planted. However, she was enjoying herself and liked the sensation of being submerged in the water, being completely surrounded.

Rey too held her hands up to indicate a truce. There were more important things anyway, like learning how to swim. She watched him with an air of awe as he just made it look so easy. Rey could feel the sensation and the feeling of the way he was moving through the water moving across their bond. She took a breath, allowing the sensation to wash over her. Having the bond did make this kind of this much easier. His encouragement made her cheeks colour slightly and she felt a little more confident to maybe try something which didn't involve her feet being planted on the sea bed.

While Rey was enjoying watching Ben swimming around in the water, she also did want to get going herself and try it out. When the moment came, Rey didn't have a clue where to begin. She understood what he meant by floating, but she'd never floated before and wasn't completely sure of the mechanics of it. She took a breath and pushed up so that her feet left the bottom. She used the hand Ben had at her waist to steady her at first but she felt anything but elegant and struggled to get her balance right and ended up just splashing with her hands, feeling a little panicked at the unfamiliar sensations. "You made it look effortless." She said with humour, but was obviously intently conscious of every movement she was making, trying to keep some kind of balance in the water.

Ben walked alongside her, hand light, only there should she need it. He chuckled at her words, watching her warmly, reaching with his free hand to smooth the dripping strands of hair from his face. "You're getting it. Look at you go." He laughed again to himself, though the pride he felt at watching her try this new thing passed easily from him to her.

He made a face as a thought crossed his mind, and he tightened his grip at her waist to pull her back up. "Here." He put his hand, palm up, in the water before them, and knelt a bit. "Just lay back. I'll make sure you stay up, until you float on your own."

When Ben's grip on her waist tightened she stood up, feet touching the bottom so that she could focus on her balance amongst the slow tide for a few moments. A few glances around told Rey they were quite alone out here and she was glad for it. She liked this time just with him, without the noise and bustle of others. Her chest swelled with the pride he was feeling and Rey felt her stomach flutter knowing she was the one who had caused that emotion to stir in him.

Rey shifted towards him at the suggestion and let Ben's hand take her weight in the water. Floating on her back seemed much easier and she settled into his hand, using her hands to cut through the water, making her feel a little bit more balanced until she got comfortable and in a position where she didn't feel like she was going to roll over into the water. This attempt felt much calmer and she knew those emotions would radiate to him over their bond. "You're good at this." She said, eyes moving round to search for him without moving her head too much to push her off balance. He was good at keeping her calm and balanced in the water. She stayed like that for a few moments, until she felt like she was actually floating and wouldn't just sink to the bottom. "I'm ready to try." She spoke through their bond, though nervous, she was ready to try floating by herself.
