It wasn't long after the spren settled on a ledge halfway down the cliff that a bird swooped down from the top, wheeling around Lift as she trod water - completely careless of the fact that she was wearing that day's clothes and not stuff made for swimming - and then landed on a bit of rock nearby.

Lift turned in the water to face the bird just as it turned into John, sitting there on the rock. She grinned and opened her mouth to tell him it was about storming time he got down here with her, but his words cut her off, and her grin abruptly disappeared into an expression that was equal parts exasperation, chagrin and amusement.

"Storming hell," she swore under her breath, looking over her shoulder at where Wyndle was only visible as the end of a green vine peeking over the edge of the rock outcropping up above. The way he looked kinda reminded her of how Taun looked when she or Reaper scolded him. No doubt from the look on her face he'd finally realised he'd said summat he wasn't meant to.

She groaned as she faced John again, though she couldn't quite meet his eyes, her cheeks going pink again as she covered her eyes with her hands, dragging them down her face as though she was giving up on everything. "I'd ask what he was saying to you, but I reckon I got a good idea," she said, shaking her head as her hands dropped back to the water with two loud splashes that were just a bit exaggerated. "Just storming ignore him. Least you got that option. He don't follow you about like a lost axehound."

Taking a deep breath, she dipped below the water, swimming a few strokes beneath the surface so that her hair was all pulled back from her face, popping up again right at the edge of the rocky bit John was sitting on. She leaned against the rock, folding her arms on it, cocking her head as she looked up at John.

Pushing all thought of Wyndle and his assumptions of... what they might get up to... out of her mind - she was gonna have a storming word with Reaper about what he got up to talking to her spren about behind her back! - she managed a grin. "Ya gonna quit being boring and come in or am I gonna have to pull ya in?"

At his words a blush bloomed across Lift's cheeks again, that he could see even from where he sat. A groan escaped her as she dragged her hands over her face, not quite able to look John in the eye. Despite himself, he gave a low chuckle, a crooked sort of grin tugging at his lips. "Embarrassed over it?" he said, the irony of it all edging his words. He had herd her speak before after all, and of all the things that would fluster her, this he thought would be the last thing.

    It was almost endearing, really...

She dissapeared beneath the water then, emerging moments later , folding her arms atop the stoe and leaning forward, her hair slicked back and slaying out through the water around her. "Ya gonna quit being boring and come in or am I gonna have to pull ya in?"

John rolled his eyes, "And with words as sweet as this I'd have you mistaken for a Siren!" He drawled. A challenge lit his eyes as he leaned down towards her. "You could certainly try dragging me down..."

She wasn't embarassed. Okay, that was a storming lie and a half, she totally was, but it was just 'cause she knew all about the crem Wyndle must've been talking to Reaper about behind her back. She had no problem joking about that kinda thing 'cause it was funny seeing the looks on people's faces. But when such things were about her, then yeah it was a bit embarrassing. She hadn't even thought about that stuff where she was concerned. Stormfather!

Better to just... move the storms on and just avoid getting back into the conversation topic at all before she made the water boil with the force of her blush. But she was definitely gonna have a word with that spren of hers later. That was for sure.

When she attempted to tease him into joining her in the water, his initial drawling response made her tilt her head a little the other way where she propped her chin up on her folded arms. "Dunno what a siren is anyways," she said with a casual shrug, before meeting the challenge in his eyes as he leaned down toward her with a hoot of laughter.

She thought about just grabbing him and actually dragging him in with her, but he was probably expecting that and probably had some kinda magic trick ready in the back of his mind to foil her. So when she leaned forward the rest of the way to close the distance between them with a kiss, she kept her hands to herself.

But as she pulled away again, a grin on her face, she instead laid a hand on the rock, infusing it with awesomeness. It glowed very faintly silvery-white and became slippery as ice, hopefully making John slide right off it into the water.

He knew better than this, that was the worst of it. He knew better and he went ahead anyway, letting her close that space between them and press a kiss to his lips. He new it was a mistake as soon as he let her do it -- had he not just compared her to a siren, weather in jest or not? -- even if she did keep her hands to herself. The problem was, he couldn't seem to bring himself to care in that moment, his thoughts shuddering to a halt and his eyes falling shut as the taste of saltwater on her lips filled his consciousness.

The next thing he knew she was pulling away and the stone beneath him had gained a bright, silvery sheen. He couldn't hold his grasp and suddenly he was sliding forward, his stomach dropping out from beneath him as he scrambled to regain his ground, only to crash fallung headfirst into the water, thrashing against gravity, the water splashing up around him.

He broke through to the surface again, gasping for air and swiping the water and hair out of his eyes. "You cheat!" He accused, though, sharp as the look he shot her was, he found himself unable to fully keep out the laughter that edged his words.

It worked perfectly. Either her kiss had distracted him enough, or he just hadn't been expecting her to make the rock Slick at all. He slid off the rock, clearly trying and failing to hold on, and pitched headfirst into the water in such a comical manner that Lift ended up laughing so much she rolled onto her back floating in the water, giggling so hard she had to hold her tummy.

It felt like a long time since she'd laughed so much. There wasn't normally much to giggle about like that when you'd spent your life on the streets. Oh, sure, she managed to find the funny side of things more'n might be expected of someone with a life as gritty as hers, but still. Something as... natural and normal as laughing like this with someone she really liked wasn't really summat she'd got to do. Mainly 'cause she'd just never really had any friends. And whatever John was, beyond a friend - 'cause that, she definitely didn't know - she'd never had before at all. She s'posed it had summat to do with finally accepting the painful truth that she was gettin' older.

When he came back up to the surface and accused her of cheating, she managed to spin herself right way up again in the water, pushing her own hair outta her face as her laughter faded. "Cheating?" she repeated, her eyes wide with innocence. "Dunno what you're talking about. How can I cheat when you don't give me any rules?" She grinned at him, dark eyes sparkling with mischief as she swam casually around him in circles like a lurking shark.

No, he was sure she didn't know what he was talking about at all as she swam, circling him, her eyes alight and glimmering in a way that reminded him particularly of Robin Goodfellow when up to his tricks, and wearing a grin upon her face. He tread water, watching her as she went, giving a snort and sharp turn of his head.

"It was hardly fair of you." he insisted, drifting just past her, through the lapping ocean. The wet, clinging wool of his tunic was starting to pull him down, and without even really thinking much of it he reached down and began shrugging the thing off. "Using your feminine wiles to nearly drown an innocent man."

Even as he spoke the words he found himself grateful that his shirt was still half-way over his head, for the fierce bloom of heat that suddenly prickled over his skin. He cleared his throat, glancing away from Lift and moving backwards. The evening air cooled him atleast, as John pulled himself up, climbing back out, onto dry earth again. He paused, only for a moment, glancing across the sun-gilded waves and sighing to himself as he dropped his tunic, letting it smack wetly upon the driest part of the stone, before sliding back once more into the water.

It really was ridiculous, how much in her power he was, and to so nearly admit so aloud made it feel even more so.

He moved through the water drifting just past Lift. "That said...." He rolled his eyes up towards the heavens for a moment before merely shrugging. "I will not say it was not worth it..."

The expression on her face and the shrug of her shoulders at his insistence was thoroughly unconcerned. "Eh. Life ain't fair," she pointed out, and there was nothing but a jaded honesty in her voice. She didn't even say it to be mocking. It was just how things were in her experience. Nothing fair ever happened in life and that was just how it was.

When he removed his shirt, she almost missed the words that came out when he was midway through pulling it off because she found herself suddenly staring at him in a way she didn't remember ever staring at a boy before. Or anyone, for that matter. Realising that her eyes were lingering on him longer than was necessary, she hurriedly pulled her gaze away, hopefully before he noticed, and then distracted herself by snorting with laughter. "Feminine wiles? Ya ain't serious. Do I really look like the kinda girl what uses feminine wiles? You woulda slid off that rock with or without a kiss. I just wanted to do it. No wiles intended."

Even just bluntly mentioning something like kissing while he was without a shirt made her feel very strange in a way that she wasn't used to at all, and she quickly ducked beneath the surface so that he wouldn't see the fit of giggles that had been fighting to get out of her. Storming hell! She stayed underwater as long as she could manage before she ran outta breath, before finally popping back up again, taking a deep breath and shaking her hair back from her eyes, kinda like how she'd seen dogs shake their fuzzy fur when they got caught out in the rain.

"I'd storming well hope it was worth it," she said, quirking an eyebrow at him, "or I'd be offended." She laughed, before flipping over to float on her back, picking out cloud trails in the darkening sky above her.

"No, it isn't." John agreed, but he paused, canting his head to the side and blinking at Lift for a moment. "It is not unfair either. Life simply is. I hardly see how that serves as an excuse for one's personal actions, however." The cynical honesty in Lift's tone and the expession she wore, as though she were speaking the simple truth of it all were impossible to miss, and the attitude struck him as odd. but then it would, growing up in the brugh, in a world where fairness had been the basis of the most ancient of laws and rights. The nessicary qualifiers were all present of course, "to a certain degree," and "for a lose definition of what is fair," yet still. The Sidhe could always be depended on to stick to the letter of their law and agreements if nothing else. They were always fair, after their own fashion.

A sharp, sudden short of laughter escaped from Lift as he went on to speak of her 'feminine wiles.' And, well, when she put it like that, it all sounded rather ridiculous. Before he had much of a chance to even answer her she was already disappearing beneath the surface, and, as if to make his claims seem even less true, when she came back up again, was shaking herself in a manner reminiscent of nothing so much as a dog. Diving back he barely missed the spray of droplets that were flung from her hair. John sighed. No, she was hardly the image of a temptress.

She was, however, perhaps even despite herself, very cute at times, though.

"You still distracted me," he muttered, "But, I suppose, so long as you wanted to do it..." he shook his head and a short breath-of-a-laugh escaped him as the corner of his lips turned upward.

Lift flipped over, then, onto her back, floating, her gaze turned towards the trailing paths of clouds and first stars emerging. Her hair spread out around her in the water and the ocean surrounding her flashed rippled crests of light and shadow. As he watched her, John found himself drawing nearer, and it was only after several moments that he realized he was staring.

He brushed back a string of hair hanging in front of his eyes, gaze turning off, up towards the sky with her's. "Well, I should hate to cause offense." He murmured, leaning over to steal another kiss.
