If Kanami was being absolutely honest with herself- and she usually tried to be- then she had to admit that after a week in Pandora she still only had the barest idea of what she was doing. Kohn-san had helped with some things like giving her information and helping her get from Elysium to the main planet and she appreciated that so much! But when it came to finding work as a performer it was a little more dicey than it seemed. Usually she had Inoue-san or Ms. Ochimizu to arrange things like tryouts and performances but here she didn't even have an agency. How did a person find something like that?

The internet was the easy answer, but it hadn't been easy at all. Some of those choices had led to some really dubious places. Fortunately she had the habit of not going in costume and one look at a relatively ordinary girl- if cuter than she realized- with long, plain brown hair and an overly talkative nature threw some of the worst ones off. She hadn't quite realized what she'd been lucky enough to avoid, but she was just aware enough to know there were better options. So she kept looking, hoping that things would work out.

So today she was on a bus heading for a new potential agency in Centria, staring at her phone and making sure she had the song she wanted to audition with perfectly memorized and mouthing the words as she listened to the tune through her earbuds. Luckily she'd managed to get new glasses with the new-arrival pack. True, they weren't exactly her prescription but it was usually better than nothing- even if it caused a little extra squinting through the square frames. She wore her usual clothes, a track suit with a t-shirt, and her brown hair was in loose pigtails. The trip was pretty peaceful, not that she noticed. She had a song to learn!

In fact she was so intent on it she nearly missed her stop and started to dash off the bus at the last second, apologizing as she moved quickly past people to step onto the curb and look around. Where was this? Oh, right, check the map! She swapped tabs and turned so the arrow matched the direction of the agency, then started that way in a quick walk, her large purse over her shoulder. Ohhh, she couldn't afford to be too late-

She had no idea where the telephone pole had come from but she met it pretty intimately a second later, walking face-first into the rough wood hard enough that she was knocked backward onto her butt. Phone sliding from her fingers she squeaked in surprise and embarrassment, a couple pieces of hard candy falling out of her purse as she landed. Nooo, this was not her day, was it!? Rubbing her nose where the phone and pole combo had hit it she sat up quickly, reaching for where she'd seen things falling.

After two months being stuck in this what’cha’ma’callit — world, universe, whatever? — Ryuji sometimes caught himself wondering what the hell he was doing with his life.

He didn’t have school anymore, so that was a plus. No more worrying about grades or forgetting to do homework that didn’t teach him anything. He was out in the real world, now. Working his ass off, grinding through two minimum wage shifts on top of exercising AND having a social life. All he was missing was a girlfriend, a car, and basically, he’d be a full-fledged adult. It almost wasn’t real to him just yet, when almost two months ago, he was still in school, living with his mom.

But man, adulting was freakin’ exhausting!

Ryuji was about ready to collapse into bed as soon as he got home, whenever that was. He’d prolly been waiting for the same damn bus connecting to his part of town for about half an hour! But hey, at least he had some juice left in his phone and a can of Munster to keep him company.

Ryuji was almost too prepared too see a bus pull at his stop, quickly jolting to his feet at the rev of its engine. Finally, time to get the heck out of here, and it was the right number, too! Thank god! Ryuji stretched his arm back, ready to board the bus as soon as the doors swung open, but — right — he had to wait for the people on the bus to get off, first. Uuuggggh. What a pain!

He had to remember that upon seeing this one girl rushing off the bus, like she was in a hurry for something. She went dashing by, breezing down the sidewalk without giving any attention to where she was going. Ryuji would think that with people like that, they’d be smart enough to look and see where they were going, but not her. Ryuji got to watch in live action as she went face first into the freaking telephone pole! And it wasn’t a light smack in the face - no! She literally plowed into the damn thing, landing straight on her butt as her stuff went flying everywhere!

”Woah!” Ryuji shouted. He frantically sprinted over to her side, crouching down to sweep up any little candy or thing that fell out along his way. He snatched her phone up as well, inadvertently checking it for cracks as he shoved everything else into her purse, set the purse next to her, and put a hand on her shoulder. ”Hey, you alright?” He only got a glance of her face as he kneeled down, trying to place her phone back in her hand. ”You hit that pole pretty hard!” Hell, even her glasses fell off and were sitting there on her lap. Damn! How hurt was she?

Without thinking, Ryuji set the phone there on her lap, switching it for her glasses instead. The frame didn’t look like it was bent or anything. The glass itself seemed alright too - no cracks or anything. Ryuji assumed they were fine. He carefully placed the glasses back on her face, studying her as a rush of wind from the departing bus brushed by. ”Aw man, and your nose’s all bloody, too! Damnnnn...” If only he had something to wipe the blood off with.

Getting knocked down like that would have been pretty disorienting to nearly anyone and it probably set her more off-balance than most- ironic for a dancer and performer, but this was no stage slip either. As she fumbled around for where she thought things might have fallen, the world blurry as she felt for her glasses or her phone or anything else, there was a dull pain that spread across the front of her face- not intense, not the worst she'd never had, but definitely there. Had she bruised her nose? Unconsciously sniffling she shook her head, trying to clear it, and didn't realize that it was starting to drip some blood, a little of which was smeared across the back of her hand where she'd rubbed it before.

It couldn't have been very long before there was a voice nearby and it cut through some of the murmuring that was happening in the distance. It sounded- more concerned and annoyed than amused or mean and Kanami could understand. Here she was, making a mess, stopping the flow of foot traffic because she was too dumb to look up from her phone, but he was helping her. How nice. She turned and gave him a slightly bleary look which turned to surprise as something dropped into her lap and her glasses were handed to her, so she took them. "Oh, thank you.."

Well, at least she'd see the face of her rescuer! As the glasses slid onto the bridge of her nose she focused on the person in question. He was cute, actually. Surprise! Not that she needed to be focused on that, especially when he was also nice and evidently capable and willing to help a random stranger. "Hello stranger! I'm okay, really! Sorry, I guess I was being pretty dumb, I was just in a rush." She started to get to her feet, sniffing again as her nose itched, and she brought her hand up once more-

It was then that his words hit her and her eyes widened as she looked at the blood on her hand. Oh, she wasn't going to faint or anything, but it was pretty shocking, and she flushed and covered her nose lightly with her hands as she immediately sat down again, hands diving into her bag. "Nooo, this isn't good, not at all! I just have to get to an interview!" she exclaimed worriedly, trying to find a tissue and coming out with a couple napkins from her lunch at the cafe the day before, but they were quickly soaked as she scrambled to press them to her nose, which bled faster.
