    @Alex Fierro

    Things had been quite for him in the weeks since he got into treatment. He lost his job but Spider gave him money, way more than he needed, so he didn´t had to worry about buying food or clothes or other things he needed. Still he tried to only take what he really needed, keeping a stash of savings in case his generous friend simply vanished or forgot about him. Better not to be too depended on it, even if it saved him from a great worry. Well, he still had this deal going on with Rikki, where she brought him nice stuff from the ocean and he made jewelry from it. Tinkered around with other bits he collected on his walks. Maybe he should expand on that.
    But this was for later. Daniel had post-phoned any bigger plans for the future until after he knew he was better, fearing his careful nurtured hopes might get crushed by any bad news. And still he refused to see a healer, stick to the pills. They seemed to work after all. No more really bad attacks and the ones he got could be put off with the pain killers. So he was actual fine. Ok, maybe he had to change to a new set of pills every other time, because the others stopped working the way they should, but that had been expected. The lump in his brain was no easy case.
    What did threw him off again was when the whole world changed. First off he didn´t get what had happened at all, how it could be real. Even once it sunk it that this was how the world was now it still scared him. And then there had been the whole thing with Alex, stressing him even more. That he hadn´t got a real bad attack in all this was a small miracle. Now there was no real reason to worry, but he did draw back to the their new house, his room, staying in, trying to cope. Dozing, mainly. Sleepiness seemed to be a side effect of the new pills.
    It probably was sad to watch him grow weary of the outside just because it was different now and he had enough on his plate. Hard to memorize a whole new landscape if he was drowsy half the time and had trouble grasping the information he needed. So he stayed inside, silent, giving his best to not bother Alex with his presence, either tinkering around with the bits he still had or trying himself at sketching. He lacked inside-hobbies. Being in low spirits and dozing didn´t change much of his street reflexes though. When Alex sneaked up on his bed he might not notice until she was almost atop of him, but then he bolted up and dropped off the bed dazzled. “What the heck are you doing there, cousin?” he asked from the ground, rubbing his elbow.

    ....sometimes, the memories got to her at night. The feeling of being trapped, of being... static. Sometimes, the memories broke her. It was never the fighting that she had an issue with. People died. Sometimes, they died because of her. Alex could live with that. She was an einherjar. Killing people was what they did. Generally, it was other einherjar, but sometimes it was people. Or giants. Either way, the blood and the flesh and killing? Never the issue. But it was the feeling of... wrongness, of something sitting there, anathema to her soul, that made her want to cry. Sometimes, when she couldn't take it anymore, she'd get out of bed, and just... shift. Just to remember that she could. Move between forms so quickly that no one could tell what form he was, just a fluid blob of ever-shifting light.

    Day wasn't helpful, either. He was just as mopey as Alex was, which was annoying, because Alex was the moody one in this house. And there was only so much pottery she could make before the atmosphere in the house got to her to. So she was sick of it. She couldn't really dye her hair anymore, but there was another option. Another head of hair. She picked the colours carefully, ones that would work with the bland rags Day tended to call clothing, and, since, a) he wouldn't agree if she asked b) it was better to ask for forgiveness than permission and, c) it was more fun this way, Alex waited until Day seemed asleep, before sneaking up on him with hair dye, water, and a bucket. Or, and a towel.

    When she got caught, Alex just smiled her Loki-grin, and shrugged. "Dying your hair," she replied casually. "Now get back on the bed."

    It wasn't that Day was in bad spirits just to annoy Alex, he didn't had that much control over it. Things needed to pend back into normalcy, the meds had to adjust right, all that simply needed time. Until then he really tried to make it easier for both of them, doing what he could to feel better, not bother her with complaints, keep somewhat close to his usual day schedule… well, there was only so much avoiding you could do while living together.
    Not that he ever got angry at Alex, took his moods out on her or so much as pushed his problems on anyone. Not even when he had his own nightmares to deal with. So when she seemed to have set her mind on dying his hair out of sudden, he raised a brow on that but didn't asked why. Just one of these Alex things he'd grown used to and actually it was nice, a good distraction.
    „Strip off or real dye?” he asked back, curious. And after a glance at his clothes - could get dirty - and his bed - free of sketches and tinkering bits - following her command and sitting next to Alex, only keeping a little bit of distance to indicate there was a bit more to sort out before she got at it. „If there's any red planned in, you can walk right out again.” Wrong memories attached to that, things he didn't wanted replaying in his head anymore than it already did. „And you're not going to cut off so much as a single strand.”

    Alex shrugged. "Real dye. It'll come out eventually, and I can get it out pretty easily, but you'll have to let me know when you want it out," she replied. Unlike Alex's own hair, which she had never bleached, but had considered when the colour refused to take, Day's hair was pretty much the best colour already for dying, pale and soft. So no red... considering what he had told her, Alex could understand that. That would be alarming.

    "What about blue.... and maybe purple?" Alex asked. She knew that dying hair was a big thing, and since she couldn't do it by surprise anymore, she might as well make sure Day was happy about it. Or as happy as he could get, anyway. "What is it with you and your hair, anyway? If you let me trim it a bit, it'd look way better."

    There was the hint of a smile spreading as Alex told him how it was real dye – because he had no intention to get rid off it soon. The opposite! In Republic he always had to use strip-off one so he could change fast, never staying the same, unable to be tracked down. Neither had the bright colors he was sure Alex would use been available too him. Daniel knew his hair was great for dye too, though it had become a kind of a trademark, a rare thing together with his natural tan, the blue eyes and the oddly asianish features.
    He just hadn't thought to do it for fun, without needing to hide, only because he wanted to. But now that Alex had brought it up and wouldn't back off anyway, there was a glimmer of excitement in his eyes. It was way better than being alone with his thoughts. They got to spend some time together. “Sounds great.” Not that he could imagine blue and purple, but he spouted a smile that said he trusted Alex to make it work. Admittedly, she had way more of a fashion sense than he, since all he did in terms of getting dressed was grabbing a clean shirt and trousers from their respective pile without caring if it went together.
    At the question his slow-building simple happiness wavered, because... well, it was quite impossible to ask him anything without stumbling over his past. “It's a statement. Pretty much everyone in the poor sectors wore it long.” Alex should be glad he never had been a fan of ponytails or braids, stuffing it under a cap if it'd bother him. “To show that you weren't to be associated with the military forces, since they would make you cut it short.” Sure, he wasn't there anymore, but he wanted to keep to the little things that had influenced him. They made up who he was.
    Though, after a long moment of hesitation, he added: “If it stays past my shoulders...” half an permission to trim it, if she wanted to take it as that. But she would already dye it, a little bit of trimming on top wouldn't hurt him. Even if it meant letting someone with sharp objects handle around in his back, where he couldn't see it and had to trust that there were no bad intentions. Albeit Alex of all people would've had better methods and chances than this in all the time they lived together.
