Cyrus' venture into the world of Pandora had truly began. He was no stranger to a long journey, so he felt confident that he would be able to see it through. From the very beginning he had intended to set out on his initial quest on his own and it was by pure chance that he met his companions along the way. Now, he was starting anew, seeking to uncover the mysteries surrounding this world he found himself trapped in.

Along the way, going along some woods in route to his destination, Cyrus came across a most peculiar creature. It was some kind of reptile, it's body brought the image of a alligator to mind, although this was one was bigger and seemed capable of standing on it's hind legs. It possessed teeth as sharp as you would expect, as well as claws that looked like they could easily shred wood. Most peculiar about it, however, was the trail of vegetation that went down it's back. Indeed, it looked almost indistinguishable from the plants in the area, suggesting that it was some kind of natural camouflage, which certainly fit with the beast's green scales. Likely it was meant to lie down and wait until unsuspecting prey approach it so it could lunge and claim its food. Truly fascinating!

Cyrus had decided to follow the creature from a safe distance, a notepad and pen in hand as he wrote down everything he thought was of note. Everything from the beast's appearance, to it's mannerisms and behavior and just a smidge of personal opinion and educated guesses thrown in.

However, something unexpected happened. A strange, thick fog began enveloping the area, one that Cyrus had heard about in his time in Oakheart. A phenomenon known as stasis fog that had the unique property of disabling one's magic. As that was his main form of fighting back against the hostile creatures that he would no doubt find in his journey, Cyrus grew hesitant to continue his research and began retreating, only for his foot to bump into a tree root and cause him to lose his balance, falling onto a leaves and branches on the ground and snapping some of the latter, the sound of which no doubt alerted the beast he had been following.

Getting back on his feet, Cyrus looked back in time to see the beast approaching him with hunger in its eyes. A piercing roar being all the warning it gave before lunging at him. Cyrus quickly sidestepped it and grabbed his axe, his only means of defense in this scenario. Attempting to run was risky, the thick fog would make finding a path and identifying obstacles too difficult. He had no option but to fight his way out.

Ah how he missed Olberic and H'annit as he stared at a beast significantly larger than him, who seemed all too eager to tear him apart for whatever nutritional value he had...

It'd been a hell of a few days. In all his years of traveling Fodlan, Jeralt had never been dragged off to a whole new world before, and for once he was somewhat out of his element. Not that he'd admit that to the handful of knights still under his command. The first rule of leadership was not to shake the confidence of your troops. If you looked like you were lost, then they were lost, and that's when the fear set in. He didn't need a bunch of jumpy kids with swords swinging at every rustle of a bush, or worse, separating and getting themselves hurt or killed. He had enough dead people to think about already. Hopefully, Byleth wasn't one of them. He never got to check.

Jeralt kept a stone-faced expression and a steady pace through the unfamiliar woodlands, even as his mind wandered while he led their sad excuse for a battalion to safety. Maybe this wasn't home, but he was gonna find a town and get this supernatural shit sorted out as soon as possible.

"Captain," one of the Knights of Seiros interrupted, breaking formation to catch up to his horse. "The sun's setting..."

"We find a clearing and make camp, then," he said. They'd been roughing it for the past two days, and this would make their third night out. At least the plants, fish, and game were plentiful enough to keep the seven of them alive. He pointed his lance at a break in the trees. "Set up there. I'm gonna take a look around for some good water." Using a stagnant pond to drink and wash up in was a bad idea. The last thing they needed was to catch some disease in the middle of nowhere. The men and women under his command acknowledge his orders, and then they got busy unloading their gear and collecting firewood. Jeralt spurred his horse on in a different direction, though he slowed down to listen for the faint sound of a running creek. Instead, he heard a roar that shook the birds out of the treetops.

"Shit," he grunted, tightening his grip on the reins. He galloped off in the direction it came from, already imagining what was waiting there. Another Demonic Beast? With his luck, probably. After vaulting over a fallen trunk and weaving through a thick cluster of trees, he saw something large and green scaled moving about. The air turned thick with a fog that wasn't present minutes ago, but Jeralt ignored it in favor of getting a better view. He was deep in the fog when he got a clear shot of the monster...and the person it was cornering. He took a second to strap on his shield and bang his lance on it to draw some attention. "Over here!" he called, though he kept moving in case it could close the distance faster than he thought. Of course there was someone else involved. Nothing was ever easy.

Cyrus' grim situation suddenly became more hopeful as the sound of metal striking metal echoed through the woods, followed by the voice of a man calling out. As fortune would have it, someone had come for his rescue, likely having been brought there by the beast's roar.

The sound distracted the beast enough for Cyrus to make his move. Although he could've attempted to strike, it was evident that the creature's scales were sturdy, while his hatchet wasn't made to be particularly sharp, nor was he particularly strong. Attempting to attack would likely accomplish nothing more than make the beast angrier and so he went with the other option: retreating.

Cyrus dashed towards the source of the sound, the figure of the man still largely obscured by the fog, but he could at least make it out where his rescuer was. The beast, noticing its prey was attempting to evade it, began giving chase, dropping onto all fours as it pursued. It turned out to be quite fast, even though Cyrus had gotten a headstart, it was going to close in before long.

Indeed, Cyrus glanced back to see just how close it was. It attempted to pounce him, but Cyrus was quick enough to move out of the way, though the abrupt movement threw him off balance enough for him to lose his footing. Cursing his lack of prowess in the physical part of fighting, Cyrus began standing up again while the beast recovered from it's attack attempt.

Fortunately, this now meant that the beast put itself between himself and the other man, making it so it would have to divide it's attention between the two.

This wasn't exactly how he wanted this to go. Jeralt had pictured the monster coming straight for him, not chasing after the dark haired man with the barely threatening axe. He'd make the best of it though. He lowered his lance and charged in while the giant lizard's back was turned, driving his weapon deep into its flank.

With a harsh grunt, he yanked it out and cantered off a few feet before the lizard could take a swipe in return. Jeralt spun his lance around in his grip once and waited for the next opening, hoping that the stranger would get some distance while he could.

Cyrus watched as the man attacked the beast, driving his lance into its flank. It looked to have been dug deep and, considering the beast looked to have sturdy scales, it was a testament to the man's strength that he was capable of a feat like this.

Clearly this was someone with a wide array of experience facing off against monsters. The way he handled his lance looked masterful as well. He looked like he could very well handle this confrontation all on his own.

Regardless of that, Cyrus didn't want to just sit and watch, or run away. As he watched the scene in front of him, he realized the fog was looking thinner. With his magic tome in hand, it was time to try casting a spell.

"O ice, pierce it through!" Cyrus chanted as he held out the tome in his hand.

An icy wind began blowing in the creature and the man's direction, doing nothing to the latter except perhaps chilling him a little, however, ice began forming at the creature's feet, freezing them and preventing it from moving any further. That wasn't quite what Cyrus had intended, but it looked like the fog was weakening the power of his magic. Nevertheless, it was still of some help. The creature also seemed distressed by the cold, as one would expect a reptilian to. It tried to break free and, unsurprisingly, the ice was already starting to shatter.

"The ice will not bind it for long!" Cyrus warned his ally, urging them to strike before there was a chance of retaliation.

Jeralt certainly wasn't expecting the man to pull out a book and perform magic, but he couldn't complain either. Any advantage against this thing was helpful. It sounded like no spell he was familiar with, summoning ice to partially freeze the monster. The fog had partially lifted, and as Jeralt turned his horse around and made to charge at the lizard again, he felt his own creat react. It occured to him that it'd been strangely dormant only minutes ago, but it seemed to be working now.

"That's all the time I need!" he responded, closing in on his target. This time, the yell that escaped him was something deeper and more furious as he rammed his lance cleanly through the monster's back, the tip of the weapon poking out of its chest. The Crest of Seiros continued to flash, and he dismounted the horse and placed a boot on the stunned monster to get some leverage before he not so gently pulled the lance back out. The intensity in his eyes faded, and Jeralt was left breathing a little harder than before. "I think it's done."

The other man roared as he took advantage of the opportunity Cyrus gave him. It wasn't for nothing either, as the sound was followed by him skewering the beast with his lance and ending it's life after a painful screech.

Something else caught Cyrus' eye though. It seemed he wasn't the only one being neutered by the fog, as a sudden flash of magic emanated from the man's body as he delivered the finishing blow. Not only that, but that flash seemed to form some kind of shape, although he couldn't identify it.

However, now was not the time for inquiries. Instead, now that the threat had been dealt with, Cyrus approached the man and his horse, still holding his open tome in one hand.

"A shame that we had no other option but to slay the beast. It's quite an unique creature, certainly worthy of research," he lamented, looking at the corpse that now laid on the ground, before looking back at the man, then smiling. "You have my sincere gratitude for assisting me, kind stranger, but I also apologize for the inconvenience I've caused you."
