    October 3rd
Genji found his little road trip through Pandora interrupted when suddenly, in the wilderness surrounding Pandopolis City, his hoverbike suddenly came to a stop and didn't start back up no matter what he did. He had been doing proper maintenance on it so far, especially since it was his main means for moving around in a timely fashion, but maybe the Crystal Vales had effected it in a way he didn't understand. It had died back then too, but it started working once he left the area with it. Perhaps it came with some side-effects...

Well, he would need to check up with the people who made it. If he was correct, that would be either back at the city... or all the way back at Centria. He had to hope it wasn't the latter because that would be quite the track to make. He wasn't sure if he would be able to bring his hoverbike with him through the portal network.

For now, Genji was just dragging the vehicle along as he began making his way back to the city. It was going to take a while, but there was little point in complaining about it.

“And one more for good luck,” she said as she tossed one more bough up before she dusted off her hands. She gave a quick nod, admiring her handiwork before she turned and started back toward the city she’d found herself stuck in… for better or worse. Pandopolis reminded her of home, but it was just strange enough to not be home. “A few more weeks Tokki and then I’ll have enough to fix you,” she promised earnestly.

She slid her hat backward on her head and wiped at the grease stain on her cheek. You wouldn’t know it by looking at her, but the one-time World Champion of professional gaming was something of a gear head. Ever since she and Dae-Hyun had been little they’d been building (and exploding) all sorts of things. While she’d never been as knowledgeable or as good as Dae-Hyun was at fixing tech, she knew enough to get something to work. It might not have been pretty, but it was functional.

She’d spent the past month finding a way to survive in this new place. With Tokki out of commission, for the time being, she’d had to find some other way of providing for herself. Just happened that she was a natural at the good ol’ art of hustling. At least, when it came to video games. It seemed there were a lot of people who took one look at her and dismissed her thinking that because she was a girl she couldn’t possibly wreck them. Each one walked away with a new appreciation for the self-proclaimed D.va.

As she burst out of the brush on the side of the road, she could see that up ahead there was a figure, but she couldn’t quite make out who they might be or what they were doing. It was rare to see people on this particular strip which was why Hana had hidden her mech in a copse of trees and hoped no one would find it until she could get it operational again. She jogged up to the stranger about to open her mouth to offer some help when she was struck by how…familiar he looked and instead blurted a friendly, "HIYA!"

“Wait a minute… don’t I know you?” she crowed as she got closer.

Calmly dragging his vehicle through the path ahead, Genji noticed a figure coming towards him. It didn't take long for him to recognize her as the one and only Hana Song. It was hard to avoid knowing who she was with how much the Korean government liked to shill her as some kind of flawless hero. It was pretty obvious that a lot of it was just propaganda, but Genji's opinion of the girl herself was for the most part neutral.

"Genji Shimada, former heir of the Shimada clan, member of Blackwatch and Overwatch." He answered her question as he came to a stop, figuring that she knew of him from one of those two things, most likely Overwatch. "You are D.Va, correct? I have watched your streams a couple of times."

Mostly while he was traveling. Genji still enjoyed playing games and he had to admit that he had grown intrigued by the story of a young gamer who turned into a big time hero and celebrity, leading to him being curious to watch her famous stream.

She giggled at the long-winded way he introduced himself. “Yeah, I know,” she replied with a wink and a set of finger guns. “Just Genji works, too, you know.” She’d been part of the new age of heroes that had come after Overwatch disbanded. She’d grown up listening to their adventures and escapades. ”Really? I mean, of course you have,” she covered up even by puffing up her chest a little. She’d been an international gaming sensation – of course he’d have watched her streams. He just didn’t clarify if he’d watched her gaming streams or when she’d started streaming their MEKA combat against the Gwishin. She’d considered stopping after the last team battle against the Gwishin when D.Mon was hurt because it all seemed suddenly so real. It wasn’t a game. And, did she have any right to broadcast the life and death struggle of her teammates? She hadn’t answered that particular moral conundrum yet.

Having the opportunity to fight with and be near someone of such caliber made her feel a little giddy. It was like meeting your hero in an airport. Part of her wanted to play it cool and the other part of her wanted desperately to take a selfie and text it to Yuna. But she couldn’t. Meeting him here in this strange new world was so oddly random and out of place and yet there they were being a regular person with a regular old broken…

    Hoverbike!

“Having trouble?” she asked bluntly and pointed to the bike between them. “I can help with that you know,” she said leaning closer and dramatically whispering. “And it won’t even cost you a thing! Because you’re a fan,” she gushed, bringing her hands up to make a little heart shape over her own. “And I’d do anything for my fans.”

So she did know who he was, or maybe she was just making sure that she was right about it. Either way, Hana turned out to be just as perky as he had seen during her streams. Most of the time people like her are just playing a character, but if she was in Pandora and acting like this, then either this really was her true self, or she still felt the need to keep the act going. Maybe things would've been different if he hadn't stated to have watched her streams.

Speaking of, she was willing to fix his hoverbike for free because of him being a fan. He didn't consider himself one, as her streams were mostly something he watched out of curiosity or to pass time, but at the same time telling her that might be a little rude. It was best to just play along.

"You can fix it?" He sounded impressed, as he wasn't aware that she knew how to repair things like that, especially since she was so young. "I do not know what went wrong with it." His eyes landed on the hoverbike, as if he was searching for anything visible that could give him an answer.

She gave a little shrug at his question. She didn't want to admit she liked the fact that there was the barest hint of him being impressed. "Like it's hard?" she replied with a bit of a giggle. Still, she watched as he stared at the hoverbike for a long moment without speaking.

Hana looked from him and back to the bike and then back to him once more before she cleared her throat. "Uhm," she whispered, but like most things she did it was a little too loud and bright to really be considered a whisper. "What are you waiting for? Is it going to talk? Is it like a super advanced space bike?" She hunkered down next to him, squatting to be more on the level of the bike. Not that she really needed to do so as she was already short enough. Although, mentioning that was the quickest way to make her mad.

"Well, lucky for you, I've been fixing hoverbikes since I was a kid!" She stopped for a second to let that sentence sink in. Most of the time people still considered her a kid, but growing up in the shadow of the Gwishin didn't make her feel very kid like sometimes. "I mean, there was one time that it exploded, but that wasn't my fault." Except it totally was and Dae-hyun never let her forget it. Their bike had exploded but they had won and that was the important thing. Winning.

"What were you doing when it stopped working?" she asked as she took out a hair tye from her pocket and tied back her long dark hair. She scooted closer to the bike and began to trace its circuitry, fuel lines, and hoses back to the places they were supposed to be. She stood up and dusted off her hands before circling to the other side of the bike and began fiddling with some of the wiring.

Genji snapped back to reality, having lost himself in his thoughts about what could've been wrong with his hoverbike. That thing had costed him quite a lot and for it to already start giving out was... annoyingm even if he wasn't one to care much about material things anymore. Nevertheless, Hana began working on it and Genji was content to just stand back and watch her work.

"It just stopped working out of nowhere. It could be a side-effect of when I traveled to the Crystal Vales. For some reason, that area seems to shut down anything that is very technologically advanced. I even found myself being affected." He explained, briefly looking at his mechanic right hand and closing and opening it a couple of times to test the responsiveness of it. Everything about him started working fine once he left the vales, and the same applied to the bike, but now it wasn't working. "Perhaps something inside has been damaged and finally gave in."

He felt really useless at that moment. Having to rely on a girl that was barely in adulthood to do something like this for him felt a little humiliating, but he was trying not to dwell on it for long. She knew what she was doing and even if she was young, it didn't make her incapable. Far from it, given her job.

"Say... how is your life as a national hero like?" He asked in an attempt of some small talk while she worked.

The life he led in Overwatch and the one she led as D.Va were two very different beasts and, now that she was here, Genji couldn't help but start thinking of all the... issues he had with how the Korean government was handling the country's admittedly grim situation.

Hana blinked at him for a moment as he tried to explain what might have happened to the hoverbike that would help her come up with a diagnosis of the issue so she could fix it. "Crystal Vales?" she asked with a bit of a furrowed brow. "What's that?" She shrugged and returned to tracing the lines of the circuitry as Dae-Hyun had once taught her.

She knew that there had to be more places than just the city she'd found. It was more familiar than some of the other odd places out there she'd heard about. Pandopolis reminded her a little bit of Busan with the noise, color and people.

"That doesn't sound like a place I want to visit... no tech? No mechs? No video games?" she cried. "How did you even survive?" she asked in wide-eyed seriousness. It sounded like hell to her if she were honest.

She pulled on a wire and made an 'aha' noise as she found it loose and then traced it back to where it could fit. There were a few other noises and grunts as she used her smaller, deft fingers to get into the smaller cracks and crevices of the vehicle. "I think... I've almost got it," she exclaimed as she tinkered.

His question caught her off guard. Here, she wasn't a national hero. Here, she wasn't anything really. At first, it was odd and she felt alone and adrift. Technically, she still felt alone. She missed Yuna and Dae-Hyun and having a job and fans. She missed a lot of things. But, she enjoyed the sudden freedom of not having the safety of an entire nation on her young shoulders.

    "It's fine."
She shrugged and sat back on her heels as she looked up at him. "I mean, you of all people, know the pressure that comes with that kind of... position. Don't you? Overwatch protected the world from the omnic crisis. It's kind of like that except it just never ends. You've always got to be on your A game. You've always got to be ready to go. You're always fighting. You can never make a mistake because it could mean your friends die. There are no extra lives. No respawns. No save points." She sighed, wiping her forearm against her forehead. "And... I kind of miss it. I miss having a purpose and a job and being good at it. And I worry what's happening without me."

She twisted a wire and stood up. "Alright, try that?" she said crossing her arms and stepping back. It might have been as simple as that, but then again nothing was simple in Pandora. "What about you? Being a super awesome cyborg ninja just not cutting it? Now you're a hoverbike racing cyborg ninja?" she teased with a wink.

Genji chuckled at the rather exaggerated response to the no-tech zone that was the Crystal Vales. If nothing else, he gave her a good warning to not go there if she could help it, although she didn't seem to know anything else about it. She seemed new to Pandora, even if she was taking the whole thing in stride so far.

"I have long abandoned my need for material things."

He then listened to her speak about her circumstances, about he should know how it was. In reality, he had been much less of a heroic figure than her. From the start, Hana was fighting to protect her country, friends and family, but him? He joined Overwatch for the sole reason of getting revenge against his clan for what they did to him, otherwise, he just did what he was told without much thought put behind it. He fought, he killed and he even enjoyed it, definitely not the kind of person she likely thought of him as.

She soon stood up, however, announcing that she had finished. That was surprisingly quick. Genji then sat on the hoverbike and tried turning it on, soon being greeted by the sound of the engine beginning to do its work, followed by it beginning to hover.

"That was... quick." Genji spoke with clear surprise, even a level of awe, then looking back at Hana. "You could find a job as a mechanic easily here, if you are interested. It might not be protecting a whole country, but it is still a purpose, don't you think?"

"Yeah, ok," she replied. She hid her half-hearted eye roll well. "You can tell me that when you're not rolling around a broken hoverbike." She glanced up at him with a teasing wink before going back to work on it.

There was something extremely satisfying about fixing things. She wasn't someone who typically did it. She was all about destroying things. Shooting them down. Blowing them up. And there had always been someone following behind her with a little dustpan and dump truck to clean up after her. Now, there was no one and she had to rely on herself to be able to get things done. Which was probably why it was taking her FOREVER to fix Tokki.

"I'm not just the best at video games, Genji," she chided with a smile. "You should know by now I'm the best at everything," she giggled with a little mock bow. She wasn't really. She had an ego, but she was aware of it enough to know that she had it. That was a start.

His suggestion wasn't a bad one. She probably could get by with a regular ol' 9-5, but that wasn't her. "I'm not really a 9-5 kind of girl," she admitted after a moment. "I'm a line-em-up-shoot-em-down kind of girl," she joked. She brought her finger guns up and took aim and with a wink shot them down.
