    SKILLS & ABILITIES

Born a mermaid, Ariel has a number of talents she has grown to be quite skilled with over the sixteen years of her life. As all merfolk do, her strength far surpasses that of an average human being, capable of shoving aside an underwater boulder blocking an entryway with a fair amount of effort, which would be otherwise impossible for a human. She also has endurance proven to be a degree superior to an average human being as well as mild endurance specifically connected to extreme temperatures. She can swim through icy waters with few ill effects and is able to withstand hot water to a degree. Naturally, Ariel has a number of talents specific to water, the most obvious being her ability to swim at high speeds due to the strength of her tail. She can speak to aquatic fauna and has a very small degree of aquakinesis most often connected to her emotions. A burst of utter joy or anguish has the slim chance of bringing with it a crash of ocean water, but the affects are hardly substantial enough to be dangerous.

By far her favorite and most notable talent is her musical ability. Ariel is easily the most gifted singer in her family despite having six older sisters with beautiful voices. Though not something she has ever explored before, her voice has a slight magical and hypnotic quality similar to the Sirens from legend, her singing sweet and enchanting enough to draw in and hypnotize others.

    PERSONALITY

While once heavily influenced by her father's hatred toward humans, Ariel quickly became her own individual as she grew up. She is free-spirited and open-minded, curious enough to take trips up to the world above. She has a constant desire to know more about the unknown and is both enthusiastic and in awe when she does learn new things. Adventurous, Ariel is known for the risks that she is willing to take to satiate her curiosity, going so far as to take objects from the world above beneath the sea with her, hiding them away in her grotto where nobody would find them. Ariel is a bright and cheerful girl, perky and most often seen with a smile on her face. Similarly, she holds a certain degree of child-like innocence, is a romantic, and, unfortunately, has also been known to be naive.

Ariel hardly has a cruel gone in her body. She is kind and caring, and toward those she finds herself closest to and most passionate toward, she can be somewhat overprotective. Brave as she can be, she is just as headstrong and stubborn, arguing her idealist views to the end, making her something of a rebel. The passion that she feels toward these views, though, has made her somewhat short-tempered at times. Her impulsive tendency to rush into dangerous situations without thinking twice has proven her to be selfless and, perhaps, overly confident.

Smarter than most take her for, Ariel is not only incredibly creative as proven by her talent with music, but she can also be quite mischievous. She is capable of formulating plans and using her cleverness to her advantage by tricking others, the end result often meant to be an escape. As kind and caring as Ariel is, she also knows how to use sarcasm to her advantage, though never in a malicious way.

    BRIEF HISTORY

Ariel was born in Atlantica to King Triton and Queen Athena, the final of seven daughters and quite possibly the most musically talented of all the sisters. When she was a child, her mother was killed as result of the arrival of a pirate ship and it was immediately after this, King Triton's heart grew dark. His hatred for human-kind grew to unspeakable levels and he never allowed his people to swim to the world above again. After banning music from Atlantica due to the painful reminder it provided of his newly deceased wife, Triton raised his seven daughters very strictly. It was in a forbidden club Ariel first learned of music and from then on, she vowed with all of her heart to help her father to realize how wonderful music really was. She succeeded in the end, bringing music back to the land, but leaving her father no less strict or overprotective or filled with hatred for the world above.

For quite some time, Ariel shared her father's fear of humans, but gradually, that fear changed into something else. She began to take trips to the surface, collecting items from the world above and keeping them in a secret grotto only she knew of, growing more and more fond of the life they lived and dreaming of the day she may know what it's like to live up there. One day, Ariel discovered a ship passing above the water and upon going to explore, she laid eyes on a handsome male human called Prince Eric. She immediately fell for him without question, but just then, a stormed moved in and destroyed the ship, setting it ablaze and sinking it. She raced to save the unconscious Eric, pulling him to the shore, singing to him of how she dreams to live alongside humanity.

After returning to Atlantica, she was surprised with a gift from her fish friend, Flounder, who had salvaged a statue of Eric from his destroyed ship and added it to Ariel's collection. Overwhelmed with joy and love, she was unprepared for her father showing up at her grotto thanks to the concerned crab, Sebastian. Upon seeing her collection of human objects, the King flew into a rage and destroyed all of the artifacts including the statue of Eric. Horrified and devastated, Ariel broke down into tears. It was then she was taken to Pandora.

    ROLEPLAY SAMPLE

There was something about being trapped in a new place with no voice and no tail to speak of that made you mess everything you once had. Not that Ariel hadn't been excited about Pandora. She had been excited about Pandora. The fact that she was trapped in the same way she might be trapped in a prison cell was irksome, of course, but this wasn't the same as a prison cell. This was a world with things that, to her, were new and amazing. In fact, things seemed to be new and amazing for lots of people here.

    Still, she had missed this.

The ocean was calm and silent and as much as she loved to listen to the chatter of the people on land, sometimes she needed to take a break from it all, which seemed strange when she thought back to how much she had wanted to be human. It was alright now, though. Now, thanks to Wanda Maximoff, she didn't need to wish for humanity and she didn't need to wish she could have everything she knew back again. Now she could have them both.

Ariel's tail cut through the waters easily with speed and precision as if she had been doing this all her life. Thankfully, she had been doing this all her life and it wasn't going to take all those months of silence and legs to make her forget how to swim. It was as if it was ingrained in her very being and the moment she had taken to the water for the first time in forever, it had all come rushing back to her.

As she surfaced, movement from the beach caught her attention and she spotted a familiar head of brown hair that made her face light up. It was Belle, one of few friends she had in Cascade Bay, which seemed a bit silly taking into consideration what a social butterfly Ariel could be. When it came to closeness, though, she had, well ... Eren. And that was it. Still, she was closer to Belle than most and she couldn't resist the opportunity to surprise her, knowing full well that she didn't realize the truth behind the redhead.

For the briefest moment, she was afraid that the truth might stun her so much that it would frighten her away, but then she thought back to the books and to how adventurous and open-minded the other girl was. Ariel's smile didn't falter and so, diving into the water, she swam toward her and popped her head above the surface once more, her green tail giving a brief splash to catch her attention before it disappeared beneath the water again. "Belle!" she called and lifted a hand just enough to wiggle her fingers at her.
