Despite the vast expanse of the Wastes, nothing escaped the notice of those who knew it well. Especially those who had connections to other areas. So it wasn't long before Nebula was tailing some assholes who had come from Lethe. She knew their types by now; they usually specialised in selling women and children, although some of that had died down since the Wolves had taken over defending the area. But it didn't mean they weren't up to other shady stuff.

Nebula did not consider herself a hero for her actions. She was merely taking down the nuisances that made this land even more unbearable than it was. Well, not all of it was bad. Some of the team she worked with weren't that annoying and actually competent. And Gamora was here, too.

Surveying from her secluded ledge, she could already there was nothing notable about the bandits, although the Luphomoid noted they seemed to be in a hurry. Not out of the ordinary; bandits were known to ransack campsites and leave them barren within the hour. There weren't many of them so it should be an easy fight. Unfortunately. Nebula was craving a challenge.

She jumped down in front of them, batons at the ready. "What do we have here?" She almost purred in dangerously low tones, relishing in their suprised faces, mixed with an initial fear, before they found their balls again and tried to attack her.

Talia soon discovered that there was as much to respect and admire about the Undertaker as there was to loathe and fear. The control he had over Lethe allowed certain activities of the less savory kind, but never unregulated or at the expense of the its populace. Mavericks, monsters in human form and those that revelled on chaos never stayed long in Lethe. They found them and made them disappear or, if they were lucky, they were sent to fend off on the own outside of Lethe, where more dangers and enemies were lurking.

Talia had heard of a group that aimed to put down the more dangerous teams that were lurking in the Wastes. She was not surprised by its existence and she believed in their usefulness(and the ideology of their actions). But she found it hard to trust that there was no other hidden agenda behind their actions. She had witnessed heroism in its purest form in her life, but in places like the Wastes, being sceptical could save one's life.

So she considered it useful to gather more information and come to her own conclusions than rely on hearsay. She spent some time outside of Lethe, tracking bandits and the like and leaving them to their business, knowing that one of these days someone would come to terminate them permanently.

And so it happened that night. She was watching the camp from a safe distance, using her binoculars, when she spotted the intruder. She seemed female, not human, judging by her appearance and she moved with the confidence and the skill of an expert. She took them by surprise at first, the way she presented herself, but then the bandits pointed their guns at her and begun to fire. Talia felt the need to mock them for using their ammo in a land where bullets were limited, but she had understood why they reacted in such an idiotic manner. She had scared them.

She had to slide down the sand dune she was hiding behind and threw a can at the direction of the camp. Once it landed, it begun filling the air with thick smoke, to disorient the shooters and give the stranger more advantages.

As expected, they didn’t waste time retaliating, drawing their guns and firing. Nebula dodged the bullets with ease, although one scraped her arm, just grazing the metal of her bicep. She got to the nearest pair and was about to snatch the weapons from their hands when a burst of smoke filled the air. Fortunately, Nebula’s sole cybernetic eye meant she soon regained her focus, and it picked up on their heat signatures. The pair she’d been aiming for never knew what was coming as she slid forward with her now extended batons, tripping them both up before sending an electroshock through their fallen forms with end of her weapons.

There were still shots ringing out as the others tried to find her through the smog. And there was the question of just who had thrown the can that was now at her feet in the first place…
