Private Two Worlds, One fate

    February 25th, Year 7

The crashing waves. The sea breeze running through ones hair. If there was one thing to remind Sora of home, it was this place. Hands wrapped around the back of his head, he stared up at the sky. Clouds passed by, and for a moment, it was almost as though he could smell home.

But the truth was. Home was a distance away. A world he'd have to unlock, just like any other. And the adventure there would surely be filled with adversaries and troubles. Which is exactly why the young boy took one of his former rivals up on their offer of a spar.

He felt it. When he had been pulled into this world, much of his power had been sapped from him. His experience in magic, his control over his drive forms, down to the missing Keychains for his Keyblade. It was a grim reminder that he had lost a lot, and gained nothing. Except perhaps, yet another adventure.

Sora waited along the very edge of the cliffside, standing at wait. The shore was particularly unsteady today. As if it knew the battle to come would not be as light or friendly as was written before. Waves crashed hard against the rocks, and the Keyblade Master awaited the fated duel he had fought once before. On a cliffside, much like this... But under much different circumstances. Would he even be able to hold a candle to Sephiroth? He had learned his moves, his patterns- He knew his opponents fighting style... But even then, he barely scratched him... And Sora was much stronger than before.

... No. He couldn't have such doubts. A smirk ran across his face. As if he'd lose to him. Even this far away, he still had his friends with him, in his heart. Their memories. He'd face down Sephiroth as he had before. And he'd give it all he had!

Now... He just had to wait. Patience wasn't Sora's greatest trait.

Sephiroth had been... bemused by Sora's apparent familiarity with him, given that he knew absolutely nothing of anyone by such a name. It had been even more curious that the boy had persistently tied Sephiroth to this Cloud, who, again, he did not know at all. The only Cloud Sephiroth had ever met was a short, shy trooper. Some SOLDIER drop-out, as far as he could recall Zack mentioning. That was neither surprising nor shameful - if Sephiroth had his time back, he would have urged every cadet to turn their focus to another career - to any other career.

SOLDIER was, after all, just a den of monsters.

He dismissed the thought with a sharp shake of his head, shifting Ugly Cat in his arms when he felt him wriggling for purchase. The feline croaked a meow and turned his flat, wrinkled, snaggle-toothed face up at Sephiroth, having a very eerie way of picking up on his quiet changes in mood. It was disconcerting, but... nice. He offered Ugly Cat a small smile, and the big, ginger beast purred in response, producing a generous quantity of foam around his mouth.

After that, Sephiroth relaxed, turning his attention to the shoreline and hunting for interesting detritus to collect and examine. He had heard from various sources that there were occasionally large conch shells that washed ashore - so far he had not found any, but he was holding out hope. In the meantime, he had found several extremely interesting creatures in the nearby tide pools, including one deeply aggravated octopus, whom he had observed at a respectful distance.

Looking up, Sephiroth was surprised to find he had walked further than expected, and he faced Sora rather unexpectedly (at least on his part, he supposed the teen might have seen him dawdling up the shoreline, focused more on the ground than what was ahead of him as he mounted the hill leading to the cliff face). At first glance, Sephiroth didn't think the boy looked like much, but he wasn't going to discount him. Not immediately, anyway. A2 didn't look like much either, but she was capable of keeping up with him, at least for a time.

"You must be Sora." He hoped so anyway, otherwise this would be very awkward. "I hope you weren't waiting long. I was distracted elsewhere. This is my cat." Ugly Cat uttered a hoarse mew and squirmed out of Sephiroth's arms, landing on the ground and stretching his legs - too short on the front and too long on the back. Regarding them haughtily, the hideous feline limped away, bottle-brush tail thrust straight up in the air. "If you would keep an eye out for him while we spar, I would appreciate it. He is incredibly fragile." Sephiroth added.

Sora's eyes dwelled towards the man as he walked along the beach with his pet cat, a curious crouch of the eyebrows as he saw him looking for... Something, on the shores. What? This was a far cry from the dangerous killer he saw from his universe.

Then again... This was a strange place, wasn't it? It seemed you could get any sort of people or peoples. Including a friendly, careful Sephiroth.

Unless this was all a dangerous ploy. Sora shook that thought out of his head, and watched the man put down his cat. It had to be the ugliest looking cat Sora had ever seen, and he had to do everything in his power not to make a funny face at the poor disaster of nature.

"Uh... Not at all!" He lied blatantly. He stared forward at Sephiroth, his eyes still trailing to the cat now and then. How could he not keep an eye out for it? It stood out like a blister. Blegh. Still, he was lying when he said he hadn't been waiting long. He came here first thing, so however long it took for Sephiroth to find his trinkets... Well, it was like an ETERNITY for poor Sora.

Regardless, the boy kept a mental note of the cats location, then nodded back to Sephiroth.

"That shouldn't be a problem. It's been over a week since I actually got to practice with anybody, so this should be a lot of fun!" He smiled, as suddenly... Light exploded from his hand. Shaped from it came form- And in that form came the boys weapon of choice.

The Keyblade. Twirled idly in the hand as though it was no heavy thing, Sora grabbed it with a firm grip and pointed it directly at Sephiroth, nodding once.

"So... You got your weapon? You ready for round two-- Well... I suppose it'd be round one for you!" He grinned.

Sephiroth did not spar often. Not because he didn't want to but because, in the past, no one had been brave enough to dare. Besides Angeal and Genesis, at least, who had inevitably left him behind with the fragmented remains of the SOLDIER program. Zack probably would have been willing to spar, but Sephiroth had never known how to ask, and besides, Zack had been filled with a bit too much hero worship for his taste.

Standing across from Sora, Sephiroth tilted his head, regarding the boy with both hesitance and curiosity. He seemed very excited about this, which the SOLDIER did not think was very becoming of a swordsman. Sparring was supposed to be serious, and an opportunity to learn. It was not... fun. No matter what Angeal said, nor Genesis, nor Zack.

There was no place for fun in training.

Feline eyes flicked to the absurd weapon in the boy's hand. Raising his brows, Sephiroth refrained from commenting, considering it a fair handicap in Sora's favor - something to help even the odds, in the event that they were unevenly matched. "This should not be fun, Sora. Use it as education and a means to better your skills." Sephiroth couldn't help but scold in an even tone, reminded of Zack.

In his hand, Masamune materialized, and he grimaced at the blackened blade - it was proving nearly impossible to buff out the visible damage caused by Kylo Ren's lightsaber. Much to Sephiroth's aggravation, the balance of the perfect blade was no longer perfect, and he chalked it up as yet another handicap for Sora.

"Come on then. I want to see what you're capable of." Sephiroth brandished Masamune before him, permitting his young opponent the first move, even as his muscles tensed in anticipation to both dodge and attack.

That sword... Sora remembered that sword all too well. Eyes narrowed as he pulled his Keyblade to his side, his stance tightening as he readied himself for combat. He heard the words that the man spoke, and they were quite different from what he heard before. Nonetheless, Sephiroth would be in for a rude awakening if he thought just because of Sora's goofy nature, this would be anything but a skilled fight.

Sora's expression changed, however, as he made his way across the battlefield. The Keyblade was like second nature to him- He'd used it so many times in past, it had become one with him even more then it had before. This would be no different. It was lifted, ready to fly...

"You should worry- About yourself!" Racing forward, he seemed to go in for a swing- It was odd for Sora to go on the offense. Despite his offensive spirit of the sword, he truly was more of a defensive fighter, waiting for his opponent to make their moves and counter them. But this time... He'd have to go all out. Understanding the power inside of him, the wisdom that came from Roxas and his offensive style...

Sora kicked off the ground right before it seemed like he would move in for his strike. A front flip, over the opponent, landing with a solid sweep of his Keyblade behind himself, and hopefully, behind Sephiroth. This was aimed for the center of Sephiroth's back, though he didn't aim to kill- A thankful part of Sora's powers meant he COULD hold back, for the sake of a fight.

If it hit, it would hurt, it would hurt a LOT, and would probably stutter most opponents, but it wouldn't cut, and it wouldn't draw blood. Was Sora really going to try and end it in one blow? It was unlikely such a thing would work.

Sephiroth was arrogant, but he was not overconfident. He was simply aware of his own talent, and it influenced how and when he chose his battles. While he did not discount any opponent at first glance, he did presume his superiority more often than not. However, unlike the Sephiroth Sora may have known, the one facing the teen now was more cautious than egotistical.

He followed Sora's forward motion, shifting his stance just slightly to accommodate the teen's leap, turning with Masamune's edge gleaming cruelly in the light, catching that bizarre weapon's edge and carelessly flicking it away. He saw an opportunity to attack (four possibilities with varying chances of landing a blow) but Sephiroth refrained, keeping Masamune held before him in a ready position to catch Sora's next attack, sensing even through one move that the boy was not often the offensive party in a battle.

"That was surprisingly talented, Sora. You telecast too much in your face, though." The SOLDIER pointed out in a light tone, offering a thin, barely-there smirk.

Urgh, lectures in battle. Sora felt his blade get deflected by the warriors sword, and realized he could have probably followed up with some attacks... But he held back for some reason. Was he... Playing around with Sora? The boys eyebrows lowered, as his stance lowered as well.

This guy... He was somehow... Different, from the Sephiroth that Sora faced. The Sephiroth Sora faced would have struck out at him when he went in for the forward strike... This one saw a step ahead. Sora would have to play... Even smarter than that?! Without Donald and Goofy here... That was going to be a lot harder.

He'd need to pick up speed. But more than that... He'd think have to think smarter.

Making mental note that the poor cat wasn't in the way, Sora flipped backwards, before taking off from the ground. He built up the energy of fire into his keyblade, beginning to twirl it in his hand. Just out of range of Masamune, he slid down, flinging the Keyblade forward like a boomerang, sending it flying with speed and a trail of fire burning around the Keyblade itself.

"Take this!" He shouted. From midway, the Keyblade swung through the air. It was incredibly aerodynamic for something that should have flopped on the floor like a rock. It was aiming for the midsection. But that wasn't Sora's intent. He watched Sephiroth closely as he aimed to slide beside him, holding his hand out to 'catch' his Keyblade.

But how did you catch something that had no clear trajectory towards you? Whether Sephiroth caught/blocked the Keyblade or not, Sora was aiming to call it back to him, from his heart. He'd grasp it into his hand, and follow up with a trio of quick strikes from the side. The aspect of fire was no longer in the Keyblade, but it was still just as deadly.

Smiling faintly, Sephiroth waited for Sora's next move, feline eyes lingering on the boy's strange weapon. He wielded it like a sword, but it shouldn't have been as effective as it was proving to be. He wondered what it was made of, but before he could dwell on it further, Sora was in motion again, producing fire that coated his bizarre weapon and...

    Throwing it?

Sephiroth breathed out a gentle huff of surprise, shifting his posture as the weapon flew at him. Time seemed to slow and he watched the tip of the key swing round and round, counting the beats before dancing forward, elegantly following the path of the spinning weapon and flowing effortlessly between the dangerous ends of it.

He looked down at Sora, and a hint of alarm flared on Sephiroth's face, realizing that this was all part of the teenager's plan. It was madness, but...

    It was impressive.

Swinging Masamune around, deeply aware that the blade's only shortcoming was its inefficiency in extremely close quarters, Sephiroth deflected Sora's first two blows, and was forced to dodge the third, surrendering a foot of turf.

Shifting his sword in his grip, briefly annoyed by the incorrect balance, Sephiroth took another step back, leveling Masamune towards Sora. He refrained from attacking yet again, too amused by forcing the boy to do all the work for him. "You probably shouldn't throw your weapon away from you. I could have impaled you." He pointed out lightly. "You are accustomed to fighting as a unit, I take it? You leave openings that I presume your comrades would cover." He swung Masamune like an enormous, sharp baton, gesturing on either side of Sora.

    "Here, and here, mainly."

Sora swung. Two clashes, then his opponent pulled back. Sora himself pressed the advantage, aiming to hook his opponents blade with his own as he stared them down.

Once he had their blade in the struggle, he could speak up.

"You could say that. I'm no stranger to fighting all on my own, though!" He let out, as he aimed to close whatever distance was left between the two. He knew his opponent was better at the length of his blade. He just had to make his way close enough so that his opponent could no longer dodge- While simultaneously protecting his back from assault.

He ducked and weaved incase any attacks came his way, before swinging his Keyblade wildly forward, aiming to corner his opponent closer and closer to the daring walls of the cliff. He'd win through ring out. It was a good strategy, in practice, and pushed his opponent to the defensive- Somewhere he knew Sephiroth might have some trouble with.

Sephiroth didn't comment on Sora's tactics, which were effective even if he was quick to catch onto them. After all, while he was aware that the teen was deliberately pressing in to keep Sephiroth in closed quarters, he still had no viable way to get his distance back. Not yet, anyway.

Sparring without intent of death was alarmingly difficult at times.

Still, the SOLDIER's expression was scarcely above bored as he caught and deflected Sora's attacks, moving Masamune with more grace than ought to have been possible with such a cumbersome blade. After a few moments of amusing back-and-forth, Sephiroth abruptly surged forward, putting more force behind an overhand blow than he had up until now and using the power behind it to push himself into the air, twisting delicately and landing on his toes at Sora's back, now free of the annoying risks of the cliff.

"That was a good strategy, Sora." He complimented blandly, holding Masamune before him in a loose grip. He contemplated going on the offensive, but then, Sephiroth reasoned that this spar was less for him and more for Sora, though he hadn't really told the younger boy as such. Besides, until he knew Sora's skill level better than he did now, Sephiroth worried that an out-and-out battle could leave the teenager injured, even if he held back the full brunt of his strength.

So, Sephiroth waited, tilting his head with an amused gleam in his eye, raising his blade mockingly.

Then, without warning, his expression tensed and he threw up his free hand. "Stop!" He ordered imperiously, stalking across the clearing to Ugly Cat, who had been strolling right into the thick of things heedlessly. "You have to stay out of the way. You could get seriously injured, and then the veterinarian will ask questions." Sephiroth scolded softly, ignoring Sora altogether as he carried the cat over to where he had set down his pack before facing his younger opponent.

"Stay here and be good or I will leave you with A2 next time. She doesn't like you." He warned, pointing at Ugly Cat warningly before readdressing Sora. "I apologize. He has no survival instinct."

Sora starred as Sephiroth suddenly turned his attention from the fight... To the cat. Sora had been keeping a close eye on it for the battle, which may or may not have been a part of the reason why he wasn't fighting at full strength. Regardless, Sora stared back at Sephiroth, nodding once as he held the Keyblade in his hand.

"... You're a lot quicker on your feet then the Sephiroth I fought... But then again..." He thought back, realizing that at that time, he barely even got him that far with his pals at his side... Without his friends...

No. Sora's friends were still there. He clutched a hand over his chest, as his mind went deep. His friends were still there... In his heart. And as long as they were there with him...

Sora opened his eyes, as he twirled his Keyblade around.

"Don't worry. I won't hurt your cat. But why don't we... Kick this fight up a bit?" He questioned, as a sly grin suddenly shot across his face. Clutching that hand tight, his form was suddenly released into a burst of light, his form changing slightly as his clothes returned to a much simpler set. His body was the same, his Keyblade was in its Kingdom Key form, but his style...

It changed. He rose his Keyblade into the air, and it shined with brilliance.

"Alright... Light... Give me strength!" He shouted. This would be next level. Twisting his form down into a crouched position, Sora suddenly rocketed off the ground, racing across the field at levels that were completely different from his original assaults.

Like tiny sonic booms, Sora rushed across the Arena, dirt flying into the sky behind him. His speed was like a blur- Beyond that of even enhanced vision. And those who could see it? Would find trouble even blocking such an attack- As the speed made the force behind the attack like the lighting that came before the thunder. Each strike hard enough to break a normal humans bones- But Sora knew Sephiroth could take them. It'd just hurt a lot.

Seven strikes. Each in succession, he'd slide across the Arena, testing Sephiroth's abilities. His worlds Sephiroth couldn't keep up with this move- Not in his wildest dreams... Could this one?
