The world was fading in an out. And when it was in, it hurt like hell.

"Mmm." Raven's teeth grit, and for a small moment forced her eyes open. There was a branch stuck to her. No, stuck in her. It was dark, and she tasted blood. "M.. Murphy?" Because he had to be close, right? They'd been together only moments ago...

She tried to shift, and was only lanced with more pain. Raven cried out for nobody to hear, and then laid back, eyes fluttering shut again. Her leg... she couldn't stand on it. Was the brace broken? She couldn't look, couldn't open her eyes.

Because in reality she had not seen Murphy in more than a day; she'd found herself landed in a new world. The ship, the earth below, all gone: there was only Pandora. Pandora Town had been her goal, as she'd been pointed in its direction by the boy she'd met not long after arriving. But she'd headed off on her own, hard-headed as ever, and then there'd come the thing.

She'd had no better name for it: long, thickly muscled legs of a wolf, rows of teeth almost like a shark, but a face that had appeared almost feline. It had stalked her for hours, and she'd known it; herding her, slowly, perhaps to a pack or its lair to slaughter her. And she'd been helpless but to go along, weaponless and limping, trying to find a way to escape. Her only chance had come as a steep drop in the middle of a forest: treacherous, certainly, but worth the risk. She'd jumped down, slid most of the way; then was hurtled straight through a tree's branches and down, into something of a rut in the ground.

Hidden from her hunter, but still left to die.

    WE BUILT THIS TOWN
    on shaky ground

Bellamy spent a lot of time out here in the woods. Not always for hunting or gathering. Sometimes, sure, but there were other people for that, too, know. It was a large hard to believe, what was becoming of the settlement. It was becoming something of itself. Nothing big, and that was fine. They were all here because those places weren't for them. Like they were outcasts come together. Something like that.

But he wasn't out here for the good of the community. He was out here for himself. For Octavia. To find her, wherever she'd disappeared to all those months ago. Chances were, she wasn't in Pandora anymore at all and somewhere deep inside, Bellamy really did know that. That didn't make it any less difficult to swallow, the thought that he might never see his sister again, and somehow, staying out here, left him with that sliver of hope he needed.

And hell, after Jo, maybe he just needed to clear his head. Bellamy couldn't blame her either. He'd fucked everything up by associating with The Governor, and then he'd--

    Shit.

The more he thought, the worse he felt, so he didn't.

That was when he heard the cries in the distance, muffled as they may have been. Bellamy came to a halt, hesitating a moment and listening sharply before suddenly taking off toward the sound. It wasn't her, he told himself. He knew that, but that didn't make finding and helping whoever she was any less important. There was still that itch in the back of his mind, though, about how familiar a sound that was.

Closer and closer to the source, she seemed harder to find until his dipped his eyes toward that rut in the ground. She blended in down there, but was still distinguishable. But not just as any stranger.

"... Raven?" he breathed, his shock momentarily clouding the seriousness of her situation. Bellamy, for the first time in a long time, felt like a deer in headlights.

    Raven?

The word echoed in her head for what felt like a long time before she managed to realize she wasn't imagining it. Only after that happened could she think about the voice. The name it spoke. It shouldn't have been possible, but she needed to know, so despite everything her eyes flickered open.

It was dark and it took her eyes a few moments to focus and adjust, but there he was: Bellamy Blake. Younger than she'd left him, but that didn't matter. "Bellamy," she whispered, voice hoarse. Her eyes began to shut again. "I... I don't think I can get up." The pain was overwhelming, and her lips quivered around the words.

Suddenly, it was hard to focus. Hard to really think. When was the last time he had seen her face? He remembered in the crowd in Pandora Town, during the very same riot he had started himself. But after that mess, he'd never seen her again. He'd wondered all the time, but he'd never really known.

But there she was, like some sort of ghost. Because after all those years, she couldn't really feel to him like anything else. It was like she'd been dead. It was like everybody he'd left behind was just dead, and that thought had always scared him so much that he opted not to think about it at all. But she was alive and well, and as he heard her voice, that seemed to sink in and he was pulled back to the reality of her situation.

"Stay here," he suddenly said, knowing a split second later what a stupid thing that was to say. Bellamy didn't dwell on it, though, as he disappeared from the sight, returning several moments later with the end of some rope he'd had in the bag on his back. Hell, when you'd settled yourself essentially on a cliffside, you never knew when you needed it, and Bellamy was practically patting himself on the back for having it. Except he wasn't. He was too busy securing one end to a tree as tightly as he could before returning to the edge of the pit.

"Just like good old times, huh?" Bellamy almost looked faintly amused. He'd remembered doing this a long time ago back on Earth shortly after the ark had come down from the sky. Taking hold of the other end of the rope, he gave it a good tug to be sure it was secure and then stepped toward the edge of the pit, slowly lowering himself down until he was at Raven's side.

Stay here. Even despite the pain she managed to roll her eyes, but couldn't bring a snarky reply to her lips. Instead she lay there, feeling as though she were hovering on the edge of consciousness the entire time, until he returned.

He began lowering himself down to her, and when he finally settled on the ground, Raven breathed a sigh as her eyes found his face. Bellamy Blake. She made a groan at his amusement, hoping they would each find a way to stay out of mortal danger in this new world.

"Your... beard is gone," she muttered. It was meant as realization that they weren't from the same time, but instead remained a strange statement that she didn't attempt to clarify.

"My what?" There was an amused look on his face as he stared back at her. "Tell me you're just delusional because I could never pull that off." More amusing to him than the statement itself was the fact that of everything she could have taken from this, of everything she could have said, it was somehow that.

Whatever the case, it wasn't something to focus on. Not for him, at least. She could focus on whatever imaginary beard she felt like focusing on as long as she wasn't focusing on the pain while he was getting her out of this hole. "We're gonna have to tie you up in this," his said, lifting the bottom of the rope he'd come down on, and although he knew exactly how that sounded after it came out, judging by the 'don't you dare' look he shot her, Bellamy got right to work with helping to tie the lengthy bottom of the rope around her waist.

They was enough that they could make some kind of makeshift harness out of it, and once they were sure it was tight enough, Bellamy was climbing back up the rope again, pulling himself out of the hole.

"You ready?" Ready to pray it was secure enough, ready to pray it didn't snap or something. That was about all he was ready for as he took hold of the rope, waiting for the okay to start pulling as hard as he could. It'd be easier with one other person up here, but he didn't trust himself to leave her any longer than he had to even if it meant getting Nancy or Sephiroth back here to help him.

"You did, somehow," she mumbled in reply, a look of tired amusement finding her features despite the sweat and dirt that streaked them. He was younger, then. That was fine. He was here.

An eyebrow quirked at his comment, but she let it go. Had she more energy, she likely would not have let him get away with it. But her misfortune was his lucky day. She stayed still for the most part while he secured her in the rope-- any movement caused her pain, though she bit down on her bottom lip to keep from whimpering. She wouldn't want Bellamy to pause in his work because she was in pain. The sooner she was out, the better off she'd be.

"Yes," she managed to call back feebly, once he'd climbed up. Raven could only focus on trusting that he would be able to pull her, that this rope would hold, that it would be over soon.

The second he heard that 'yes', he started pulling. It wasn't gentle and he hated knowing that any form of movement she was getting down there was gonna hurt, but she'd be better off in the long-run up here than stuck down there in that hole. They both knew she wanted out enough to put herself through that. So he pulled, and it took every bit of muscle he had, all the while watching the edge of the pit where the earth plunged and the rope plunged with it, watching for any sign of fraying, any sign that it might not hold.

In the end, they were okay, though. In the end, she reached the top and Bellamy inched forward, releasing the rope with one hand so that he could reach forward, clenching his jaw tight as he gripped her arm to help pull her the rest of the way up.

He pulled up, and this time Raven couldn't keep back a groan against the sharp pain that lanced through her. Her eyes shut, though, allowing her to be pulled steadily upwards. If she dropped, she dropped- at that point there was no stopping it.

Only when Bellamy touched her arm did her eyes open. She tried to grab onto him as best she could, to help him out, and then settled on the ground at the edge of the steep drop. "Thank you," she breathed. There was still the piece of a branch sticking out from below her ribs, and when she glanced down, she saw her leg brace had busted open. There were cuts to her leg that she couldn't feel, and the brace was broken.

Hot tears of frustration and pain flooded her eyes, though she blinked furiously and kept them back. When she looked to Bellamy, she would look no worse off.

She couldn't even get up and walk. If it weren't for Bellamy, she would likely have died down there. "Looks like you're my hero. Lucky me." She managed something of a smile, even if it didn't quite reach her eyes.

She didn't need to thank him. Bellamy vaguely remembered a time along time ago when they hadn't gotten on at all, when they'd hated each other. When he'd destroyed the communicator because he didn't want to go back to the ark or for them to come down to Earth. To come down and kill him. Somehow, all of that had changed, and yet since then, he'd done so much more than shoot the chancellor. He'd done so much worse.

But they weren't like that anymore. She'd become like family to him, and that made it all the better to see her face now. A welcome face in light of everything. Clarke's distance. Coldness, almost. O's disappearance. Bellamy wanted to hug her, but he didn't want to crush her either.

And maybe he was feeling just a little too proud.

When she looked back to him, she looked no worse than she had before, which was pretty bad, admittedly. Raven was strong, though. She was probably one of the strongest people he'd ever met. "You know me, always playing hero," he murmured, but he couldn't bring himself to mean the light tease, too busy just looking at her as though she were some sort of ghost from the past. "... How long have you been here, Raven?"

Raven returned his gaze, smiling slightly, though it ended up looking something of a grimace. She'd spent years up in a space station with only a few people, and they had been family to her. Bellamy was one of them, even if it was somehow different now.

"A day," she replied flatly, and the smile vanished. "I'd say this place can go to hell, but I think it is hell, so." She sighed, and then clenched her jaw and tried to shift a little. It did little for her comfort, and probably caused her more pain than it was worth, but. "You? I'm going to assume you never lived through Praimfaya?" Maybe if she kept talking to him, she would think about everything else less.

A day. He still vaguely remembered when he'd been here a day and had been a lot to take in. A lot to swallow. And even now, years later, Bellamy couldn't bring himself to try to assure her that it wasn't some kind of hell like she thought. In some ways, it was. In a lot of ways, it wasn't, but it was hard to focus on those in the same way it was hard to focus on the fact that maybe he wasn't a total piece of shit.

"... It happened again?" he murmured, glancing away for a moment. It wasn't the news he wanted, but there wasn't much news anymore that was good news. A frown tugged at the corners of his lips before he looked back. "There's a place nearby, a settlement. There's medicine, food, water. I can get you there if you bear with me just a little longer."

There it was. Raven snorted something of a laugh. "I'll fill you in when there's not... a branch in me." She wrinkled her nose and let out her breath with a sigh. Her eyes went down to the wound, but immediately started to feel lightheaded and looked to Bellamy again.

"That sounds a million times... better than this forest floor, so. By all means." She looked at him, and tried to focus on his face. It was... spinning a bit. But she couldn't believe her luck, that this world had tried to kill her, and she was still here- and no longer alone.

She was right. Getting her out of here and to the safety of the settlement was priority. He was silently cursing himself for not having driven the rover out here, for having walked instead. But it wasn’t far and he sure as hell hadn’t expected to run into Raven of all people, and definitely not a badly injured Raven. For the longest five seconds of his life, Bellamy looked like he was still mulling over how he was gonna do this, but carrying her was gonna be the only option.

“You trust me?” he asked her, but whatever she said wouldn’t matter or stop him from doing what needed to be done as he crouched by her side. “On three. Ready?” His hands were slipping beneath her, careful to avoid the wound itself. Still, nothing about this was gonna be painless. Raven was tough. “One. Two--” Bellamy never got to three. Suddenly, he was lifting her off of the ground as gently as he could despite the fact that there was no gentle way to go about it.

Better quick than agonizing over the inevitable.

Did she trust him. If he really were younger than she remembered, he might not know how absurd that question was. She gave a nod, meeting his eyes, a slight smile lifting the corner of her lips. Yes, she trusted him. More than he knew. He was family.

And then, even if she didn't, what other choice did she really have?

Raven didn't reply that she was ready, instead exhaled and let her eyes fall shut, bracing for the inevitable pain that would follow. One, two... A small groan rumbled in the back of her throat when he lifted her, but her lips remained clamped shut. Instead she slowly lifted an arm and grabbed for the back of his neck, to alleviate a bit of her weight, and better secure herself in his hold. Only then did she breathe, finding her lungs tight and the breath a bit pained. Her eyes stayed shut when she leaned her head against his chest. "Thank you, Bellamy," she muttered, the exhaustion clear in her tone.

The question was ridiculous. He knew the answer already, but Bellamy wanted to give her something to focus on, even if it was just the sound of his voice. He just wanted her to stay awake for as long as she could, because if she passed out, there wasn't really any telling what that meant. He wasn't a doctor. But they had a doctor, and that was what mattered, and in that moment, the priority was getting her to that doctor. So he hauled her up into his arms with as much gentle ease as he could, though he suspected there was no such thing for somebody in her condition. That was fine. They'd all known pain, and Raven had probably known it more than anything, after what had happened to her leg, after having to recover from it. After the grounders. After Mt. Weather.

God, there was just so much.

"Don't," he murmured. Don't thank me yet. She could thank him when they were back and she could thank him when she was recovering.

The walk wasn't more than twenty minutes, which probably felt like a solid hour for her, but Bellamy talked to her the entire time, cracking a joke here and there, which was a miracle given how stiff he could be sometimes. But when he put his mind to work, and when somebody he cared about as much as he cared about Raven was in need, his heart and his warmth came through full force. And there weren't many people he cared about in the world more than he cared about Raven. She was family.

Once they'd reached the settlement, he got her in a bed in the little wooden clinic they'd built, the doctor getting straight to work. Bellamy lingered in the room, outside the room, out in the open air. His anxiety wouldn't let him go far at all, and it was only a few hours later, he finally got the okay to go in there. So he did just that, pushing the door to the room open to see Raven there in that bed. "You awake?" he asked, his voice quiet. If she wasn't, that was fine. If she wasn't, he'd take a seat and he'd wait until she was.
