Jaune didn't even really remember falling asleep. One second, his eyes had been heavy as he'd tuned in just a bit to figure out what their second movie was even about, and then...well, there wasn't really an 'and then.' His breathing had evened out as his hand had stilled on Pyrrha's back, and just like that, he was out like a light with a half-eaten piece of pizza still gripped loosely in his other hand.

By the morning, both of them had shifted around a bit. Jaune had settled fully on his back with his blond hair fluffed out and Pyrrha asleep on his chest, and both of his hands rested loosely on her waist underneath the blanket he'd thrown over the two of them. His mouth was parted slightly as he snored just barely audibly, his chest rising and falling evenly with the deep slumber.

So deep, in fact, that he didn't react with more than a faint snort when the front door opened and closed.

"No," Jaune mumbled, his voice groggy and slurred as he turned his head. Despite the movement, it was clear that he was still dead to the world. "No... Not the...sugar free kind..."

The two of them probably made for quite a sight. Their legs were tangled together with Jaune's neck at a bit of an uncomfortable angle against the armrest of the single couch in the room, though after their trip to Haven, he had deduced he could sleep more or less anywhere that was vaguely horizontal and not made entirely out of wasps. There was a small stack of pizza boxes on top of the coffee table, the top one lying open with a half-eaten pie inside. Beside the boxes were the loose pieces of Jaune's chest armor that he'd stripped out of and left lying around when he'd changed into his pajamas. Pyrrha, of course, was in another set of his pajamas, but her armor was at least a bit neater on the kitchen table.

While not the longest she'd been away from home since she moved in with Jaune, the week and a half excursion to the side of the Cadenza Expanse to rid some more ornery pests from outside of Arco-- incidentally the first time she'd heard of the town, and enthusiastically called her roommate over after the call to tell him about the town they named in his honour! Little did she know, however, after her arrival that she'd have to tell him it wasn't at all what she thought when she got back. Of course, she would have called him sooner, but that was the bad thing about camping.

...No matter how many outlet shaped holes you find in trees, they never seem to work in charging a dead Scroll.

But at long last, the sight of her shared apartment was a loving sight to behold after nearly two weeks of rare showers, overly friendly locals, and the dread that she felt from interacting with them while they exuded the aura of 'I'm going to eat your face when you fall asleep in your motel room.' But now that she was home, that was neither here nor there! Walking down the long hall, the decadently painted walls of white glow hurtling past her brisk pace, her tattered cloak bounced with her pep as she carried a box containing a treat for her and her roomie to share on a 'Congrats for making rent this month!' victory: one dozen (or three) donuts from the little shop down the east side from their building.

With the boxes stacked just over her line of sight, the sound of scraping metal scratched lightly at the door as she fumbled with her key and a click of the lock following with the faint open and close of the front door. For once, she was quiet about her entrances knowing the weekend preferences of sleeping in on a lazy morning. "Jauuuuune," she whispered not trying to wake the resting that she assumed was still conked out. "I'm hooooome."

As she turned around to close the door quietly, Ruby heard his grumbles-- and though the donut boxes restrained her sight while she tried to keep them steady, she could triangulate the sound to his position on the couch as he complained. Offended by his sleepy words, her volume increased slightly. "Sugar-free?" Ruby gasped! "You know better than to even think I'd--"

Lowering the boxes from her face's height, the sight of something more red than her afterimages hit her like a wall of bricks. A wave of emotions hit her all at once. The same stages of grief she'd experienced less than a year ago after her home had fallen to the villains-- her friends scattering, some even losing their lives... all those stages hit her at once, stopping just short of acceptance.

    Pyrrha.

One of her best friends-- one of her personal inspirations for carrying on when the going got tougher than she could handle. The one friend that Ruby witnessed lose her life in a scatter of ashes to the woman who tore her life apart as she knew it. ...That friend was laying on her couch, cuddled into her roommate. Alive. Breathing. ...Not dead.

Calculations rapidly changed, added up, subtracted in her head until all but steam poured from her ears trying to figure out what was going on. She'd heard of some strange things happening in the timeline since her arrival in Pandora. Small changes, but nothing as significant as... this! Her reanimated friend on her couch, crashing with her roommate and best friend after coming home from a camping trip.

After a minute of just staring, thoughts stopped and the sounds began. Though her mouth was already agape with her jaw on the floor, an ear piercing shriek echoed through small abode followed by the dull thud of donuts hitting the carpet.

Pyrrha had easily fallen asleep after the second movie had started. It had been a long emotional day for both herself and Jaune. They had somehow managed to keep awake for that long but the couch was far too warm after Jaune had gotten that blanket. She had already been planning on staying the night since he had invited her and falling asleep on the couch had been all too easy. Unlike her best friend, Pyrrha didn't talk in her sleep, though it was a noise that she had gotten use to long before this point.

Shifting in their sleep, they had wound up in a position that was far more comfortable for Pyrrha than Jaune, but she wasn't awake to try to make it more even. Instead she was out like a light and didn't hear the front door anymore than Jaune did. Instead her cheek was pressed to his chest and her arms were comfortably wrapped around him. The words that Ruby spoke were far too light to wake her up but the scream? The scream finally got a reaction out of Pyrrha. She startled awake and a bit of a muffled yell escaped the redhead as she almost fell off of Jaune in the process. Her semblance had hit overdrive. Perhaps there was something in Pyrrha's instincts that thought to stop any and all sharp, metal objects from striking her while she was too groggy but everything metal in the main space of the apartment suddenly took flight.

Every bit of Jaune's armor smashed into the ceiling above them. All of her armor slammed around the kitchen, along with the kitchen knives and the pots and pans that had been in the cupboards. Even their weapons got the same treatment. Pyrrha's spear dug into the wall and Jaune's sword had a similar reaction on the other side of the living room. Everything moved faster than it should have. There were dents in the wall and "dent" was probably an understated way of speaking about it. The security deposit was likely gone at this stage.

Pyrrha had sat up on the couch the second everything went down, the blanket that had been covering them sliding off her shoulders and easily showing exactly how the two of them had been sleeping. With Pyrrha basically on top of Jaune. Her cheeks tried to turn red and drain of all color at the same time as she realized what was going on. As she realized what she had just done to their apartment. Pyrrha's hands covered her face in the next instant. "I'M SORRY!" Gods, what had just happened?

As Ruby screamed, Jaune screamed. And as Pyrrha started using his favorite sauce pan as a wrecking ball, he screamed even louder.

In fact, he'd jerked up as soon as his roommate's ear-splitting screech had indeed split his poor ears, Pyrrha being lucky that she had jerked up with him or else she'd likely be on the ground. He barely even noticed that she was pretty much sitting in his lap with his arms around her hanging on for dear life, because oh, there went his chest plate! And right behind it was CRESCENT ROSE, OH GOD--

    This was fine.

When the wreckage died down, so did Jaune's girlish shriek, though he would never be the one to call it that. His eyes were blown wide with the type of confused terror one could only experience less than twenty seconds into consciousness, and...yeah, they were not getting that security deposit back.

"My tuscan beige!" he cried out mournfully about the paint color that had been chipped away at the very least and blown to pieces with the dry wall at the very worst. Nobody blame him for that being his first priority. He was barely awake and could only handle so many thoughts at once before having no choice but to pick one at random and focus on it. "Not again."

Jaune hung his head with a long groan, his hair still fluffed into the wrong direction and flat where he'd been laying on it. This was the real reason why for all of their mischief, Team JNPR rarely broke quiet hours. It was to keep from startling a sleeping Pyrrha -- which was even worse than startling a conscious Pyrrha -- and getting skewered with their own silverware they'd smuggled from the dining hall.

At this bright and early time of the morning, it was hard to tell whether 1171 Briar Street was the location of a middle class apartment of two friends or the cacophonous chorus of shrieks rising straight from the depths of hell, backed with the drumline of a thousand steel utensils beating against the walls like an orchestrated band having a collective seizure on the timpani.

Blown away and frozen in a tableau of absolute shock, Ruby stood staring at the two with eyes the size of dinner-- no, serving plates exclusive for the most extravagant feasts. Thoughts raced through her mind, trying to pick a priority in a span of half a second. Pyrrha! was the immediate one, considering that she'd seen said friend die in front of her eyes. But at the same time, Pandora had some ways of bringing convoluted things into fruition. Whether she revived or pulled from a time before Ruby had seen what she'd seen, she could be certain. My house! was the second one. Like Jaune, she had some reservations about remodeling from the effort already put in-- but moreso, she didn't want to spend more money on it that would take away from her snack budget. But the last one, and the one she actually vocalized....

"My donuts!" Ruby cried out, the scattered boxes of thirty-six deep fried confections splayed across the floor in a gore of raspberry jelly and lost cocoa powder dashed across the carpets. To her sweet tooth, it was a crime against humanity! A tragedy befallen upon only the worst of Shakespearean heroes! Nay, even that; Hamlet could not even bear to come close to this magnitude of loss! ...Thank the Lord himself, she had not even noticed the pizza stack lest the true betrayal be felt for generations.

Side-tracked as she was, a tone of serious focus was still apparent to her as Ruby's gaze cascaded back up to Pyrrha. How, when, why, and where were all the questions she wanted answered-- but that could still wait a bit. "No, forget the donuts," she announced to herself (only after briefly realizing there were at least fourteen that survived the great fall) and pointed at the redhead. "you're alive! In my apartment! On my couch! And... And..!!"

On the swivel of her ankles, she spun to point at Jaune as well. Though Ruby wasn't angry, she was miffed in a sense. ...Even if it was her fault for having a dead Scroll battery, it didn't matter in her eyes! "...And you didn't think to let me know?! Pigeon mail? Smoke signals?! You didn't even use the Rubysignal...!"

A deep, scowling frown wrinkled her face as she continued to point. A ladle fell from the wall it was once embedded in behind her, punctuating her silence now with a healthy crash.

My donuts! Ruby's voice was clear in her ears now and Pyrrha let a heavy breath go as she came to terms with the situation. She was still horrified by what she had just done to their apartment but her heart was no longer racing. Which meant her semblance was no longer trying to fling every metal object around them to every wall the apartment contained. The redhead took a look at the damage and felt the weight of the situation settle on her. There had been a rule back at the dorms that once Pyrrha was asleep there were no startling noises. Nora had only taken three nights to figure it out. "I'm sorry!" She repeated the apology as everything started to settle, right before Ruby started in about Jaune not giving her a heads up about Pyrrha.

You're alive! Pyrrha's expression took on a more somber note at those words. Jaune had explained everything, probably actually everything, the night before but it didn't make the words any easier to hear. "That's... we just found each other last night." She looked down at her hands and then forced a smile on her lips, moving slightly off of Jaune's lap in the process. She didn't know how to explain it all but she did feel like defending Jaune. There had been too much to emotionally unpack the night before. They had been too caught up in each other to really think about any one else. That was just as much Pyrrha's fault as it was Jaune's, but they would have likely corrected their mistake once they had woken up.

But that was alright. Pyrrha knew how to make it up to Ruby. She stood up and off the couch, before awkwardly offering. "I'm... it's good to see you, Ruby." She had a cartoon t-shirt and shorts on, but she was actually alive. "I heard you've been through quite the adventure back home!" One she had gone on with Jaune. One that everyone had gone on after her death. Pyrrha felt so awkward she didn't know quite what to do so she turned and moved to the wall, carefully pulling out her weapon from the wall and cringing as she did. Drywall came out with it and Pyrrha sighed all over again.

What else could she do except apologize and try to help clean up the mess she had just created. Never mind the donuts that were on the ground in front of Ruby. Pyrrha would have asked why there were so many but she fully understood that side of things. Ruby was the Nora of team RWBY in a way. She stood there awkwardly holding Milo before realizing there were kitchen knives in the wall of said kitchen. She really had done a number, hadn't she?

Jaune tipped his head back and let out an even louder mournful groan as he saw the powder and jelly spilled all over his poor, poor carpet like it was the scene of a murder. In less than thirty seconds, both of his best friends had managed to destroy what seemed like nearly every surface in his living room while he could do nothing but watch. It was brutal.

As Ruby laid into him about not giving her a heads up, he sputtered and raised his hands even as he knew she had a point. "Think about it!" he insisted, the pitch of his voice raising slightly. "You're on a job, you're hunting monsters, and then -- oh, look, dingding! A message from Jaune! Wonder what it says! What's that? My roommate and dead friend are having a sleepover? Oh, no. I got distracted. I'm stabbed now."

He stuck his tongue out with a dramatic fake-choking noise as he clutched his chest, pretending to lose his balance before falling back-first onto the couch with his other arm raised in the air. "Remember me!" he wheezed. But just as he did so, a spatula unstuck itself from where it had been buried in the ceiling above just to land with a solid thunk on his head. This time, he yelped for real.

"Oww," Jaune muttered, sitting back up as he rubbed his head with a pout. Running his fingers through his hair helped marginally with the mess on his head, but with dry wall dust on his shirt and a bit of dried drool around his mouth, it didn't do much to help with the mess that was himself. "Rubysignal for a doctor, I think I'm concussed."

Despite the light Jaune was trying to make of a very awkward situation, it didn't take away from the tension he noticed radiating from Pyrrha. Referring to her as their dead friend probably hadn't helped, and he belatedly and very sheepishly winced at that. The fact that she had just wrecked their living space likely didn't make her feel any better either.

"It's alright," he promised, getting to his feet and reaching out to touch her shoulder -- slowly this time as to not startle her again. Oh god. Please not again. "It was just an accident, Pyrrha. We're not mad." Over his shoulder where she hopefully wouldn't notice, he looked at Ruby and mouthed 'We're not mad!' yet again just to make sure they were on the same page, though he didn't really doubt for a second they were.

Pyrrha was...by their sides again. The realization made his breath hitch a little and his grip on her shoulder tighten that much more. He had been so scared to fall asleep last night with the shock still seeped into his bones, because what if he woke up and it hadn't been real? But it was here, and she was here, and his smile softened at Ruby just as he pointedly tilted his head in Pyrrha's direction as if to say 'dude, what are you waiting for, HUG HER.'

Her pointing finger turned pretty quickly into just another hand on her hip as she squinted at Jaune, her cheeks puffing with air as she pressed her lips into a thin line. There was still some lingering, associated trauma she felt from losing someone as pivotal as Pyrrha in her life, as well as someone as close to her age group as she was. An exaggeration it might be, but her losing one of her friends was like losing family. It was like losing her mom all over again, like Yang losing her arm, or when Uncle Qrow got sliced open by that assassin Salem sent.

Basically, it wasn't something she enjoyed. But there was a feeling she couldn't shake about the whole situation; maybe it was just the fact that the whole journey after Beacon's fall left her emotionally drained that a reprieve from not having to go through some kind of traumatising horror was not only welcomed, but needed. Not to say that Pyrrha's appearance wasn't unwelcome, but certainly shocking in ways she couldn't necessarily narrow down. For not only her benefit, but for that of Team RNJR-- for that of Team RWBY, wherever they are. For Uncle Qrow, for the survivors of Beacon, and for everyone else that was now supposed to be counting on her even though she never met them.

But... when Jaune's smarmy, goofy little soft smile and understanding eyes locked with her gaze-- all of that melted away. Everything was awful back home, everything became awful in those last few months in their trek across Anima-- but, now... it's just like everything was okay again. Like they had class the next morning, like Professor Oobleck was going to lecture them on the importance of using your surroundings when you run out of supplies. She could remember how that trip went-- all those poison ivy cases...

...When she looked at Jaune, the air in her cheeks deflated and the tightness in her body went slack. Without a second of hesitation, she found herself trudging quickly at Pyrrha in slow motion-- or rather, what felt like it with her arms outstretched and locked around her with a squeeze when she planted her face into the other's shoulder. "I just," she breathed heavily with a muffled voice underneath, the feeling that she felt when the arrow pierced her friend's chest hitting her again. "We never thought we'd ever see you again..."

Dead friend. Pyrrha understood why they were saying those words. She knew why. It had been over a year for them. She had been dead for over a year. They were talking about it like it was fact. Like it was something they had spoken about before and would speak about again. That was just life for her friends. She was dead. Gone. Unable to be there for them or help them with the burdens they carried. Unable to be the person she had wanted for herself. That destiny she had worked so hard for.

    A Huntress.

Pyrrha couldn't help but feel rather awkward in response to the conversation. She felt almost like she didn't belong. Awkward in her own skin and that was something that Pyrrha didn't often feel. So she stood there with her bright eyed gaze looking everywhere in the apartment but her two friends. Was this guilt she was feeling? Guilt at putting them through her death? Guilt that she couldn't help them? It felt like the redhead just didn't know what to do or how to feel. Not too unlike the night before. At least she wasn't crying this time. Just feeling... abnormally awkward.

Right up until Ruby was suddenly by her side and hugging her. Pyrrha froze for a second before returning the hug with a soft smile on her lips. It was good to see Ruby again. Despite all the other details that were going on. The facts that had been shoved in Pyrrha's face as a result. She squeezed her smaller friend and kept on smiling despite that odd sting in her eyes. She could do this.

We never thought we'd ever see you again. It was difficult to keep hearing that but Pyrrha kept her mouth shut on the subject. They needed to express their grief just as much as Pyrrha had needed to feel it for herself too. "I believe it." How could she not? It wasn't like Pyrrhad had doubted a single word that Jaune had told her. All of it was facts and truth, even if it hurt. "It's alright. I'm here." It was the same thing that she had told Jaune the night before but it seemed to be something she needed to repeat. As frequently as possible, until the reality of Pyrrha in Pandora became the new set of facts everyone had.
