@Katsuki Bakugo & @Michelle Jones
NOV 17 Y109

Maybe you don't remember falling asleep, but regardless you wake up in an unfamiliar room. Although, perhaps, calling it a "room" is a little too kind. A windowless box is a better suited word with seemingly no door to speak of. The walls a plain color-- made of concrete, perhaps. It's hard to tell when any damage attempted on it doesn't seem to do anything at all. In fact, the closer you seem to be to breaking through the more the room seems to react-- Little pricks at fingers, more pain, and sometimes it even seems the walls begin to close in on you the more you try (or maybe that's just you going slowly insane).

Despite your kidnapping, the room is surprisingly not completely barren. A small prison-grade cot sits to one edge of the room. A pail that's emptied, for waste if you like. A side table sits near the cot, notebook and paper standing ready for you to use. Further investigation of the notebook will give instructions and a list of pairs. The pairs seem to be other participants in the game. One page within the book is dedicated to writing down your decisions. The rest... Well, perhaps if you write a name and send a message one of the others will receive it?

Perhaps the most haunting thing in the room of all is a screen on the wall opposite of the cot. On its display is always another room-- Clearly other participants. It changes from time-to-time, but really all you can do is watch those others trapped within.

The letter reads as followed:

The saying you mortals have is "life is precious because it's fleeting". Is that not true?
A sentiment a being such as myself cannot understand. That is why you are here: Show me the the price of a life to you. You have twelve hours. Tell me what you have to offer that you believe is the equivalent. Choose one of you to die if what you give is deemed unimportant. Oh, and just for fun you should know: You're not the only ones here. Should you win someone else will positively die anyway.
Have fun.

Katsuki slowly woke up - eyes unfocused, before growing wide. This wasn't his fucking bedroom. What...even the hell was this? The last thing he remembered was falling asleep in his bed. He had been reading some book for class, but couldn't keep his fucking eyes open, so he gave up. Shut off his light, and rolled over.

Now he was here.
Wherever the fuck here was.

The first thing he noticed was the screen. Others waking up in identical rooms; all had the same shit in it. All seemed as disoriented as he was. All had...two people. Pulling his gaze away from the screen, glanced over to see...fucking hell. It was her. Michelle.

Out of everyone he could be stuck with, there were worse options. He actually didn't mind her, most of the time. Kinda a bitch, but he meant that as a compliment. He was an asshole, so he couldn't really judge. But she didn't have a fucking Quirk. It was his job to keep her safe in...whatever the fucking shit this bullshit was.

He was already annoyed, and had only been awake for a few seconds.

Bakugo was fucking tired of being kidnapped. Tired of waking up in places he didn't recognize. First the League of Badly Named Jackholes, then Pandora, and now this. No more. No fucking more. He was done with this shit.

"Hey...you awake yet?"

why would i ever hold back?
Michelle Jones and "easy times" were not synonymous. She'd learned that long ago. Not having friends or people to care about had always been easier, it meant less possible trouble and heartache. It was why Beck's threads didn't phase her as much as they otherwise could have-- Can't tear apart what she hadn't wanted there in the first place. Even in Pandora she could count on one hand how many people she really trusted without really filling it up, how many people were friends was also within the same criteria. It was just... Easier. To be on her own and not rely on people, because experience had taught her she'd get fucked eventually anyway.

If she was one of Ned's beloved RPG characters her rank would probably be E-. She'd learned that in Pandora too, given the amount of trouble and problems she'd seemed to have gotten into. The most recent being the annoying weight of other people's thoughts never leaving-- It hadn't exactly gotten easier, but she'd gotten used to it. Discovered it could be useful... But all the same. Right now, while asleep, there's a dull sense of annoyance and anger that is waking her up. A force that only became increasingly stronger as she came to, the voice familiar-- And thinking stupidly annoying things like she's Quirkless. Fuck that one, too, she was perfectly fine without a superpower (although here she was with her own now anyway).

"No thanks to you, yeah," She grumbled sleepily, eyes not fully opening yet as she shifted to get up. The strangeness of the situation isn't lost on her-- They didn't share a room, for example. He didn't come in hers and she didn't his, but this was... She'd fallen asleep reading, sure, but if she missed school she doubted that he'd wake her up. No, his voice was softer as she forced groggy mind to wake up-- Dark eyes flickering from boy's face to the room around them. It's not an unusual room for a girl who enjoyed studying dark history and torture. Probably a trap roof or something that they'd put a ladder in. Or in a place like Pandora opened with magic (ugh, stupid magic).

She frowned glancing around the landscape. "No need to ask if this is your hidden kink or something," She grumbled, using usual wit and sarcasm to deflect a moment as she gathered her bearings. If it made him sputter angrily that would at least make the atemosphere steel momentarily, but the dark-haired teenager got to her feet-- Screens. Bed. Pail. All things from a B-Rated torture film. All things that worked to drive someone insane given enough time. But why?

One thing stood out in the small cramped room: The journal on the bedside table. Complete with pen. Clearly meant to be picked up, she glanced at him before snatching up and flipping it to the front page. Good news: She could read fast. Bad news: She knew what kind of idiot she was trapped in with. So even if she wanted to panic-- she did, of course she did-- she groaned as she tossed it on the bed towards him. "Hey, hero boy," She started before he could pick it up, "don't get any stupid ideas or it's me you'll have to worry about." He was already going to get stupid ideas. He already had them, after all.

She seemed as out of it as he felt; Bakugo narrowing his eyes at her weird 'kink' comment. A brow rising in thought, "...Are people actually into this shit?"

He genuinely had no idea. Those assholes back home made weird ass jokes about kinks...and sometimes his parents unfortunately did too. Honestly he just ignored that shit as much as he could.

Katsuki pushed himself to his feet shortly after she did - eyes on all the little details of the room. His gaze lingering on the screens of other rooms. Other people in the same fucked up situation they were in. He only glanced over his shoulder when a notebook was tossed in his direction - landing on the bed beside him. He sat back down as he read - ignoring her words until he actually knew what the fucking hell she was talking about.

Oh.

"What the fuck even is this?" he held up the book slightly, before putting it back on his lap - flipping through the pages to see if there's anything he missed; her words finally sinking in.

One of them had to die, or offer up something. Which...made no fucking sense. His pockets were empty - he was ready for bed. Giving up his power brushed his mind, but that...wasn't possible was it? Not unless they had someone like All for One in their ranks. And considering how fucking stupid and unhinged this all was - it was totally a possibility. But if they didn't…

It had to be him.

There wasn't even a question in his head. No hesitation at all. Even with her mind-reading power, he was the one that literally had formed his entire life after wanting to be a Hero like All Might. Wanting to be the best, and stop fuckers just like whoever was behind this. And last he checked, he was fucking failing at his goal. All Might had chosen Deku to take his place. Provisional License Exam, failed. He wasn't fucking enough no matter how hard he tried.

And - from a glance - he couldn't see any way to get out of the room. It was just...them. And they were being watched, like everyone else was. Any attempt to try to escape would be seen unless they somehow blocked the cameras. Considering how fucking controlled the environment was and how obvious it was to block the cameras, something told him there was a kill-switch that would end in both their deaths if he did anything to obstruct it.

Fuck.

Part of him didn't want to die like this, but if he had to go - going out to save someone else sounded like as good of a way to die as any. Plus…

Since coming to Pandora, Bakugo had done a lot of fucking reading about what Pandora was and how it worked. Might as well figure out if there were any loop-holes anywhere or ways to get home. He'd assume everyone had already exhausted everything in ways of escape; but also knew most people were too fucking stupid to figure out most things.

One way to leave Pandora was death. He'd finally get to leave this awful place, go home. See him mom, his dad. Go back to school and be around people he actually didn't mind; and some people he fucking hated. Get another chance to get his damned provisional Hero License. And just...stop this stupid fucking pause button on everything that seemed to exist for no fucking reason. Ever since coming here, it had been a nightmare. School was useless, and getting him nowhere. While he wasn't in the orphanage anymore, the bookstore wasn't exact Home. He kept fucking losing fights for whatever reason; his luck and skill just fucked up here.

Katsuki fucking hated Pandora, and couldn't ignore the slight pull towards a chance to go home.

A thought he quickly tried to drown out with others; mind slipping back to ways of breaking out of the room - hopefully before she noticed.

"Like I'm letting a fucking notebook threaten me," he lied - and he knew she'd know he was lying. He didn't really care, "There's got to be a fucking way out of here," he shoved himself to his feet - glancing at the screen again, before tracking the angle to their own room - eyeing where a camera was likely hidden. A hand on his hip, as he considered just blasting the corner until they were told to stop.

why would i ever hold back?
Shit situations were practically the norm. Even back home. She'd spent enough time distancing herself from how things were in her homelife that it'd transitioned to all areas. Friends and trusting didn't come easily. She knew her beliefs and stuck by them, even when the other teenagers saw it as weird. But all she really had was intellect and her own words. Words that were often lost in a stifling, cold household. She tried to say she didn't care, but she did and very deeply. It wasn't her classmates who'd almost died in the Washington Monument but her friends. A words she still infrequently said to describe any relationship.

The whole Snap/Decimation to Blip to Mysterio to Pandora thing... Well, that had just made things worse. She'd gotten used to shit in a way that it all almost became numbing. Can't cry and scream about it if you don't let it get to you right? If it can't get to you? But she'd be lying if she said she didn't panic-- She did and could. When given time to think and breathe in a crisis she gets harsher with her words. And she was already harsh enough. Which was all she could do is roll her eyes, mouth forming an unhappy grim line.

It didn't take mind-reading to really understand Bakugo. In some bizarre way they were similar. Sure, he was loud and aggressive, but they were both perfectionists when it came to their own abilities. Determined in that respect to be great. Or do great. Neither liked feeling as if someone had one-upped them and they were both confident and more confident when things went the way they expected. In that way he was predictable, easy to understand. What she can't understand and his dumbass determination to kill himself over the concept of being a hero. Stupid heroes and their stupid hero complexes.

And then he was off thinking that dying would be preferable to life in Pandora.

That was kind of a low-blow for someone to hear who considered you a friend, but she was used to that. It wasn't like... It wasn't as if she could really say she had friends around here. Anyone who'd actually care if she disappeared. Every one she knew was perfectly happy with the groups they had going, including Peter. It wasn't that different from home. Her parents hadn't really been around since she came back from the Decimation. They hadn't even shown up when the trip to Washington almost ended in multiple fatalities.

It was normal, but she'd be damned if the idiot thought he was going to die to try and do something so stupid as save her because he was the "hero". Screw that nonsense.

"Sure, because blasting a hole in the wall is seriously going to be the answer," She mused in response, trying-- and managing-- to seem nonplussed for the moment. Maybe it was the seething amount of anger under her skin, at both this fucking box and this dumbass boy. "Be my guest. But if we die because you blow us up I'm totally going to haunt you for the rest of time. We don't even know if this is some sick prank yet or not."

It's not a prank something seemed to say in the back of her mind. What kind of person would go through so much to set up a prank? Not many.

Dark eyes darted to the televisions and noted the scenes more carefully. People in the same rooms. The same amount of items. It felt like they were lab rats in some kind of test. She snatched up the journal again to look at it more carefully. "By the way, if anyone's going to die it's me. I'm older, so I've wanted it longer," She countered simply, without even looking at him, "I've also already done the whole being snapped out of existence before thing. That gives me bonus points."

It's said coolly. As coolly as one could expect, but it's the last thing she wanted. She didn't want to die again. Sure. Life sucked. There was a lot of shit. She was pretty sure if she did ultimately disappear people would move on, call it conditioning from a shit homelife. But she also wanted to do something with her life and the whole death thing put a damper on it. But still she couldn't let Hero Boy think that she needed saving.

With every moment that passed, this was becoming less and less like a fucking joke. It was difficult to not pace - just to let out some energy. Just to feel like he was doing something, anything. Instead, he made a point to hold still - eyes continually slipping back to the screens, seeing if he could get any ideas from the others.

"If it worked, then yeah - it'd be the fucking answer," his voice quiet despite his words, still just trying to think through this. There had to be an answer - something he wasn't seeing. Something they were both overlooking. But it was all too straight forward.

Offer someone to die, or something to spare them both.

"I'm older, so I've wanted it longer."

For the first time since this bullshit started, Katsuki's pissed off expression eased. First to confusion, then...nothing. It took him a second to realize what she was fucking talking about, before the whole 'oh right she can read my fucking mind' thing popped back into his head. Apparently she had heard him thinking of wanting out of Pandora.

"No," his voice still quiet - caught off guard that she just...wanted to die, apparently. For awhile, if it was 'longer'. That...fuck. Normally he always had something to say, but for once he was just...speechless. And he hated it. He hated everything about this fucked up situation. She didn't deserve to be here. At all.

None of them did.

And he was fucking powerless to help them.

"Fuck no," he forced a bit more kick to his voice.

She was pretty much the only decent thing to happen to him in this fucked up shit hole. Everyone and everything else was fucking garbage. But she was alright. Actually, she was a friend. Something that honestly didn't really happen very often. People tended to follow him around because of his power or whatever, but he didn't really relax around many people. But...she was one of them. They were both assholes, and it was nice. A just sort of unspoken 'fuck everyone' between them, that made them understand each other.

Honestly the idea of Pandora without her, wasn't even something he wanted to think about.

"I...don't want you to die."

why would i ever hold back?
Michelle stopped short of rolling her eyes, yanking up the notebook once more and moving to an open page. There's only half a thought in her mind in regards to the thing. She doubted someone who went through all this trouble would take pleading over a page-- and she wasn't one to plead anyway-- So she did the next best thing: She just started doodling, mind working in over-drive at what could be done and what should be. She doubted blowing the place up would do anything more than blow them up as well, which while was somewhat appealing was still not (nothing was more appealing than giving two middle fingers to mythical entities hanging around, which speaking of--).

Her hand stopped mid-stroke of pen against paper at Katsuki's answer. Her eyes turning from the page to him, brows furrowing together in question. It wasn't the answer she expected. Her own answer had been half-joke, as per the usual of most people her age these days. She didn't actually want to die, especially given by technicality she had before. But there were times she felt that she was just another nuisance to the fiery male. Not a friend more someone he felt he had to be somewhat nice to because she helped him out when he first arrived. Which she called bullshit on, because it wasn't like she did anything to be liked.

She placed pen and journal to the side for a moment, pulling up a leg to rest her elbow and chin on as she tried not to look as sheepish as she felt. "Yeah, so you can see why it's bullshit if you think I'm going to accept you even considering that you have to save me," She answered coolly, avoiding her own admission by pinning into him that yes she knew exactly what he thought and how she felt about it. Even without mindreading, she knew the stupid hero type better than she would like. She'd probably be a stupid hero type if she wasn't so angry he thought that he had to be and had some glorified idea of a hero.

"So let's restart with a better idea than destroying the room we're in or one of us stupidly sacrificing themselves, okay?" She continued to counter, one hand brushing back an annoying bang but her expression no less bitterly-resigned, "because if you think it's a hero I need I'll kill you before this guy ever gets the chance and then myself." Okay, so that's not exactly true, but she somehow says it with enough fierceness that it almost seems like she could make it happen. No matter what one thing could be taken from how she spoke: She wasn't doing some self-sacrificial bullshit today.

They were both way too fucking stuborn for this game. Katsuki continuing to pace with his arms tucked in front of his chest as he just...thought. Every part of his dumb game, every piece of the fucking puzzle. But he had nothing. Absolutely fucking nothing.

With an irritated sigh he finally stopped pacing and sat on the ground - his back against the wall.

"So...what do we do?" his voice quieter - the normal kick dampened, "We don't really have anything to give. Neither of us wants the other to sacrifice themselves up. This is...bullshit."

why would i ever hold back?
It's a situation of helplessness. Forced helplessness to make them break down or something. But why? What would they get out of it? A couple of no name teenagers? Okay, so she knew a few Avengers. It could be a call for them or whatever, but she doubted it. And there were supposedly others too. No, it was... Really, truly probably some type of stupid sadistic game. The kind of moral debates she and Ned might have on movie night.

Journal in hand she kept sketching-- thinking and shrugging. "What, don't think wit and charm will be enough or do we just lack both?" She inquired easily, brow arched. The sketch on the paper half done-- A depiction of the middle finger. Hey, if whoever was doing this kept the journals as momentos at least they'd get exactly how she felt.

A moment passed as she considered. "No stupid self-sacrificial bullshit," She added, frowning as she continued, "so guess it comes down to-- If it's the last thing we ever do, is it something we'd hate ourselves for our what? If we live someone else dies. If one of us dies someone else lives. So like, what can we live with? It's basically some huge moral dilemma and I know what my answered be but there's two of us sooo."

Bakugo watched as she drew a middle finger - quietly agreeing with the thought. Yeah, fuck these guys. Fuck them all to hell. This entire thing was just some fucked up sick game. There wasn't anything they were trying to get, trying to win. Just fucking playing with people and seeing what they would do. It wouldn't have even surprised Katsuki if it all turned out to be fucking nothing. Or...maybe that was just hope. He didn't even fucking know anymore.

Despite everything, he half-laughed at her comment about wit and charm - silently shaking his head as he repeated the rules in the back of his mind. There had to be something they were missing. Some obvious clue that they were both just...too fucking stressed to see.

There was no way this was the end.

He continued to be quiet as she talked her way through what he was already thinking. It was one thing to throw yourself into battle without knowing you'd live on the other side. That was just what heroes did. They fought against the fucking bad guy, no matter what. But this wasn't fighting. This wasn't doing anything. This was just them sitting there and deciding to die, so other people could live.

But...he knew he had a lot to learn about actually being a hero. People seemed keen on reminding him of that daily, back home. He knew, he he fucking knew.

Maybe this was it.
Maybe this was the part he was missing.

It...wasn't always a fight.

Sometimes being a hero was just a decision. Just a choice. It wasn't some big fight on a battlefield. It wasn't the loud victory, but the quiet one.

"So if we both choose to die, two people can live," his gaze not on her - hands quietly rolling into fists for a moment, before falling slack, "Fine."
