November 25th, Year 110
Investigation – First Island, 2 PM
@Osamu Dazai, @Villanelle – Anyone else who would like to join the investigation

Another murder, another investigation. This was going to be more difficult, especially considering that this is was the second murder. Now, they knew how things are supposed to go: they had to find clues, speak with witnesses, get a timeline, and discover what had happened and who killed Diluc. There has got to be a motive and a murder weapon. They needed to figure out what happened.

If they didn’t...they saw what would happen if they got it fucking wrong.

The only problem was that the killer also knew what to do; what to look out for and what to hide. It was going to be difficult, but they had to check figure things out.

So, he, Dazai, Villanelle went to Vill’s lab. She had said that Diluc had left her lab—which could easily have been yesterday morning, but it was still something. If anyone else wanted to investigate with them, they were free to join them, as they said when they grouped up after lunch. Chuuya was expecting maybe one or two more people to come along. The more the better—unless one of them was the killer.

“So, you said he left your lab and was possibly ill. What were you guys doing at your lab?” Chuuya asked bluntly, as he started looking for any indication of where Diluc had gone after he left. Maybe some footprints or something like that.

It was a very strange feeling, walking beside someone she was pretty sure she could now call a friend and knowing that the person he was looking to convict... was her. Even Dazai being there sort of unsettled her, even if they weren't as close -- she still liked him too. These were the people Villanelle had grown some strange level of comfortable around over the past few days, and though she'd never been stupid enough to disregard the possibility that she might one day have to turn on them (or have one of them turn on her)... she'd never imagined it happening quite like this.

As skilled a liar as she was, even playing along and pretending to be invested in the mystery unsettled her if she thought about it too long. She could get by like this until the trial, maybe, but what happened then? If they figured it out, she was going to die. If they didn't... they were all going to die instead. Once it would have been an easy choice to make, Villanelle being the survivalist that she was. She couldn't figure out why it made her so uncomfortable to linger on now. Had everyone here really grown on her that much, or had she been underestimating just how little she'd grown to value her own life these past few months?

Maybe it was some ugly combination of both.

"This was... just after Monokuma killed Byleth. We were trying to get Naoto away from everyone, quarantine her somewhere while we learned more about the disease, and she thought that a lab had more air than her room. That we'd be less likely to catch it from her, that way. Obviously we were not so lucky." The story came easily and truthfully, since there was no reason to twist the details -- Chuuya and Dazai could confirm or deny everything she said about this particular incident if they checked with Naoto or Akechi. She stopped outside the lab, leaning against the side of the volcanic exterior.

"As for where he went afterwards? No idea. Maybe we'd be able to pick up some kind of trail from here, but... my training didn't really cover tracking people through the wilderness." Her gaze sifted over their surroundings regardless, keen to try and pick up any odd details Diluc had left in his wake... though maybe not for the reasons she was implying.

This one would be tricky - Dazai knew that much already. He suspected pretty much everyone at this point, which wasn't surprising. Because...well, they were all pieces of shit. Even the ones that claimed to be the heroes of this story - it was becoming apparent that not too many people on this island could be ruled as 'good'. Maybe Dorothea. Maybe the not-hat-clad Shirogane. The rest? All garbage people. It made him wonder how many of them had blood on their hands before even coming to this 'game'. From what he could tell, most. Which made the game far more interesting, in his opinion. Killers challenged to catch other killers.

This round was definitely more enjoyable than the first. Plus he - while he'd never admit this to those who cared for Diluc - appreciated the killing. It was less messy than the first round. Even the blood under the nails wasn't damning. He scratched at his neck while he was strangled. Of course there was likely some damage done to the killer.

A thought that pulled at Dazai as he trailed behind the other two - watching as Vill seemed to walk a bit off of her usual gait. It was almost as if her ribs had taken damage.

Well, if she did it - good for her. Waiting for the next round was smarter. And hanging out with Dazai and Chuuya investigating was also a good call. It meant she was actually paying attention who had pushed the last pieces into place in the first trial. Yuri had been the one to push things in Joseph's direction, but it was Chuuya's mention of the joke flower that really signed him off as a dead man.

But Vill was also not feeling well that morning, which was possibly still going. She hid her fever symptoms better than Dazai did - mostly because Dazai hadn't tried at all. If he felt like shit, everyone was going to know it. At least when Dazai had a fever, sometimes old injuries would bug him again. So what he was seeing could have simply been her being uncomfortable from a fever.

Or she killed him.

Eh, he was enjoying his afternoon. He didn't really care at the moment.

"So the last time anyone saw Mr. Corpse was...pretty much over twelve hours before he died," Dazai kicked a pebble, "Of course it had to be the anti-social one that died. This time frame is sort of...useless this far out," he frowned, "So I think the answer is obvious what happened," he walked up closer behind Chuuya and Vill - looping an arm around Chuuya's shoulders, and meaningfully leaning his cast on Vill, "Fish did it."

vill having damage was a clue i was given i'm not pulling that out of my ass promise <3

So, they had taken Naoto to Villanelle’s lab so that she would be quarantined. Makes sense but it’s weird that it was her lab instead of Akechi’s—seeing as they were friends, it shouldn’t have been a problem, especially when it was closer to the hotel than Villanelle’s lab. Unless it was something that they wanted to hide from the others. So either it was not a detective’s lab or Akechi wasn’t the owner.

But he kept quiet for now; especially since the one they should be asking that question should be to Akechi and Naoto.

Vill mentioned her training didn’t cover tracking people through the wilderness which...was valid but shouldn’t spies be adept in any kind of situation? He didn’t know to be honest, but better focus to see if there was something they could do now.

Dazai mentioned that it was over twelve hours since someone had seen him, which...yeah, the time frame was useless. Not like they can guess what Diluc had been doing before though. “You have a better idea, Dazai? That could be the case, but since his boots had the type of rocks you can find here, it’s might lead to some evidence.”

But then Dazai looped his arm over his shoulder and his cast arm around Villanelle. And said the fish did it. Chuuya barked out a laugh before he quickly covered his mouth to stop his snickering. It was so left field that he couldn’t help but laugh. “Okay—not gonna lie, that was a good one. But let’s focus.” He took a deep breath as he cleared his throat.

“There were pieces of glass in his upper arm. So, we can almost confidently say a struggle occurred, and being tossed into the sea was to destroy the evidence. It could have happened near this area or somewhere else; either way, it would be best to rule this place out.”

Finding that fucking fish joke genuinely funny was probably something to add to the ever-accumulating pile of evidence that Villanelle had a few screws loose. But Chuuya laughing his ass off at it (which was maybe the first time she'd heard him properly laugh at all) gave her the cover she needed to get away downplaying her reaction with a roll of her eyes, though she couldn't quite hide her smirk.

"Given the evidence we have so far, I think you might be looking for an octopus." In another situation, Villanelle might have appreciated her, Dazai, and Chuuya being the assholes who wandered off to laugh at the expense of the very murder they were investigating. As it was now, they were the assholes, and she was... whatever the step beyond 'asshole' was, since Diluc was actually dead because of her.

Well. As John Mulaney would have said, they did not have time to unpack all of that!

She shrugged Dazai's arm off her shoulder, though it was good-natured, and she took care to do it gently so as not to jostle his cast too much. But now some of the amusement had faded from her expression, replaced with a curious and analytical glint in her eye as she swept her gaze over their surroundings. "I guess since he had rocks under his shoes, we should be looking for footprints? Either here or in the surrounding mountains."

That didn't exactly narrow things down, she knew.

"Honestly, the glass in his arm might be a better lead, but I don't have anything... glass in my lab." If she had, and either of them suspected her, she would have hoped they assumed she was smart enough to at least sweep up the broken pieces. "You can see for yourselves, if you like, but our resident Ultimate Journalist has already requested to take a look around inside later today."

Both of their reactions to Dazai's fish remark...honestly went better than he was expecting. Half the time he said anything, he expected a nice punch to the jaw. Instead, Chuuya lost his shit, and Vill offered one of her I'm-trying-not-to-smile, smiles.

"Octopus. Good thought. I was just picturing a fish with really veiny hands," he backed off of them both, idly picturing his fish suspect, "I'm also picturing the fish smoking, for some reason. Though that's just wishful thinking," he huffed a sigh, "The real motivation is a single pack of cigarettes for all the smokers who haven't had any in days."

He was suffering.

"Footprints, glass, and a hunk of wood. I will say, I appreciate the simplicity of this murder," he mused, deciding he was in good enough company to be honest about it, "No joke flower. No fake petals. Just a strangled corpse on the beach. A classic," he was actually smiling, "And I think we should focus less on the inside of your lab and more on the outside. He went...somewhere after he left your lab. Maybe there's an obvious path somewhere, where he could make more spears and not talk much," he was still smiling.

He really needed to stop making fun of the dead.

"Anyone else think it's funny that both murders are discovered by Shiroganes? I do," his normal 'stop saying fucked up things' sense was completely gone, thanks to the fact his fever was freshly out of his system. He knew he needed to tilt it back some, but he was enjoying himself.

Well, weren’t the three of them an interesting trio? Though he will admit, that was very bad of him—to laugh at a joke because of someone’s death—however, after being stuck in this place for how long, he was justified to laugh a bit.

But it got out of his system—as Vill suggested an octopus and Dazai started imagining the fish murderer, as Chuuya was refraining himself from smiling with the cigarette comment—it was best to get down to business. While he never got to know Diluc, he still found the death unnecessary.

Vill said they should be looking for footprints in this area, which sounds like solid lead—as well as the glass, though he wasn’t sure if they would find anything if they checked Villanelle’s lab, though apparently, the journalist has already called dibs on doing that.

Dazai then talked about the murder and how there was a simplicity to it—how they shouldn’t focus on the inside and more on the outside. Seeing as Dazai had already stumble on Diluc doing spears, it was likely he went somewhere in the wilderness as well. Or he had a lab and went there—who knows.

“The glass wasn’t from a drinking glass. I feel the reason he got glass there was because he used his arm to block an attack.” Chuuya had gone to search for where any vases in the hotel with Yuri and Dorothea, as well as trying to check where the origins of the gun were.

But then, Dazai mentioned how it was funny that the Shiroganes had found the murders. Chuuya shrugged as he looked at the ground and checked to see if there were any footprints or signs of someone walking through here. “It seems weird to be a coincidence…but not sure if there is a connection to that.”
