It had taken her longer than she expected, To arrive at her destination, but eventually she did. She had asked Jusik to drop her off some ways outside of the town where she had been told she would be able to find her old master. And after saying goodbye she set on her way. Walking through observing the landscape. It was a cold place, and seemingly calm. And still Ahsoka felt more nervous than she had in years.

In a way she knew of course that there was no reason for it. Here in Pandora Anakin was alive and well. Or so Obi-Wan had told her, and she believed that. But Ahsoka couldn´t know what his last memories were, if he already knew that she'd leave the order, if he knew that the last time she'd see him they wouldn't even get to have a conversation beyond what practically needed to be said for them both to do their jobs. If someone else had already told him about what would happen after all of that. The only way to find out though would be to seek him out.

And now as she was making her way towards Bratttur she felt nervous. There was a reason though. Two years ago now she had felt something rattle their bond. Order 66 happened and after all she could sense was a void where he always had been. It was gone, emptiness, pain, nothingness had been there the one time she had tried to reach out through it. And the times she had subconsciously done so after. Over the years she had kept it sheltered off, she hadn't looked or reached out through it.

Now though she had to. Because she wanted to let him know that she was here in town and because it really really wouldn't be practical to go knocking door to door in hopes of searching for Anakin. As she started making her way through the small, freezing, town she opened herself up to it again, following it as she would have years ago.

The past few months, whenever Anakin wasn't plunging headfirst into busywork public works for Brattur, or occupying himself with... other duties (like grandson-watching), he'd been raking over his mind for clarity. For instance: how was it, exactly, that his loyalty to the Jedi Order could have devolved from a willingness to die for them to murdering every last Knight and Padawan in the Temple of Coruscant, all in the space of an hour? He couldn't understand himself, this future that'd been shown to him— except he did. It was for Padmé. He would choose Padmé over the Jedi every single time. But then in his unraveling he'd begun to suspect even Padmé of betrayal, wrapped the Force around her neck to silence her lying mouth, became the very thing he feared—

The death of his wife. The end of everyone who mattered.

... And then the creature known as Darth Vader was brought into Pandora not even for the first time, struggled to make sense of it as much as Anakin did currently, somehow managed to make amends with his wife (three times over), with Obi-Wan (four times over), left Pandora, returned to Pandora as that nine year old slave boy, left Pandora again, and now: here he was again, remembering all of it.

There wasn't really any point in dwelling over this further, was there? That tauntaun was so dead, it had to be a zombie tauntaun. For the fifth time in a row he'd found Obi-Wan again, and now he was waiting for Ahsoka to finally show.

Even though part of him knew that he should leave this town. Rejoin society and leave Brattur behind him; the seclusion wasn't helping anymore (and it wasn't really working either what with every other once and future Jedi showing up at the gates). But he still couldn't summon the motivation. What was the point of even that, when he had already somehow achieved the highest office in Elysium? How'd he cobble together the patience to last as GenSec for a whole nine months, anyway?

More importantly: Ashoka. At his core he was still that Anakin who'd only recently saw her off on her mission to Mandalore. And he wanted badly to see her, to know that she was doing well.

I won't leave you, not this time. Then you will die, murmured a hymn of whispers from the back of his mind. No, no. Stop that! Shoving those thoughts aside, he rounded the corner, apologized to a gaggle of women he'd accidentally run into in his distraction, and had a bright and desperately relieved smile blossoming over his face when he saw her.

"Ahsoka." Forget bowing, forget ceremony or custom— neither of them were technically Jedi anymore. He certainly couldn't bring himself to identify as such, after knowing what he does, after knowing what he will do. But too stubborn to let the future drag him beneath the surface of the earth as it typically did, he threw his arms around the young woman he'd grown to love as his own little sister. "You've grown taller! A little taller," he hedged, the grin audible in his voice.

Not as tall as she stood at the temple beneath Malachor— no, he was not going to think about that.

The town wasn't all that big, there didn't seem to be that much to do. At least not compared to some of the other places Ahsoka had been. So the sudden appearance of Anakin stood out, if not for the fact that she really was looking specifically for him, then for the women he had just run into. Soon though she was standing in front of him.

Elated that was probably the best way to describe it. She had spent a year on her own, knowing she could call him but never actually taking the step to use that comm frequency until of course she did. And when she did they didn't even have the time to catch up or talk about anything but what was happening. And after she knew they never would get the chance to. Pandora changed that, Ahsoka didn't want to let this second chance slip past her. ¨Anakin¨ the joy and relief in her voice evident as she greeted him.

He was her master, he always would be her master, her mentor her teacher. And his lessons stayed with her even if she left the jedi. But he was also the closest thing to family she had ever had or would ever have in all likelihood. Her brother in everything but name. Before she could do what she had wanted to do on the venator but couldn´t he pulled her into a hug she readily accepted. Easily throwing her own arms around him grasping him just as tightly. She had missed him more than she could really put into words.

It was however very easy to fall back on the banter they used to share. Those words would always come easy. ¨Just wait, a few more years and i´ll be as tall as you¨ she batted back swiftly adding ¨And my montrals definitely count¨ those certainly would still be growing.

"A few years?" Anakin couldn't help his incredulous chuckle, rising easily up from his cauldron of dark thoughts. This was nothing like their curt reunion on Yerbana, so occupied with pursuing their next mission were they. Well, Ahsoka for her part had seemed damn focused, leaving him to flop awkwardly in the elation of seeing her again. But there was no need for such urgency here, where he intended to hold back nothing of what he wished to say. What he wished. "You've a long way to go before getting up here with Master Shaak Ti and me." You killed her, interjected Palpatine's damnable voice, with a lightsaber through the heart.

But that was not him, he pushed back. Not yet. So shut the hell up.

Pulling back, his smile was tight and fraught for the briefest of heartbeats before relief and joy flooded stubbornly back in. "Last time I saw you, you were all business," he retorted with a certain fondness in his eye. "I trust your lightsabers served you well?" And the 501st, he nearly mentioned, until once again despair reared its ugly face to remind him of that horrible Fall, the Order in its wake. (Fives was right about everything, wasn't he?) But Ahsoka lived, because of course she would. He'd trained her to thrive against even worse odds—including that of his old, monstrous, hateful self. Force, let that be true.

(Besides, hadn't something pulled her away in the nick of time?)

This was easy. Easier then she had expected it would be to fall back into old patterns and habits. And Ahsoka had missed this. That she had realized shortly after leaving the temple but being here made it painfully obvious. ¨Not that long you´ll see¨ he wouldn't. And neither would Master Shaak Ti. As far as she knew neither of them had survived the temple and she hadn't heard anything about the Togruta Jedi Master being in Pandora.

Those thoughts she didn't want to dwell on. She knew what would happen to him, had happened to her. For now she just wanted to focus on being able to see him again. Catch up on what couldn't have been said last time. ¨We had Maul to worry about¨ she retorted, as far as defenses went that was feeble and she knew it. She had wanted to talk to him, it's just things had gotten in the way, Maul, the chancellor, the fact that Bo Katan hadn't been keen on asking the republic in the first place. But even though she had set him free herself, and as bad as she felt about that, at least she didn't have to worry about Maul in Pandora.

Right. Her lightsabers. Well her old lightsabers, the ones she carried with her now were curved, somewhat unpolished, had a white blade and most certainly not the same. ¨They were great, Maul didn't know what hit him¨ well mostly because Maul had expected him and master Obi-Wan and probably underestimated her. Still she had been grateful for the win before it all went down. She had lost the shoto when falling free diving out of the venator, and she had left the main lightsaber behind to be found by the empire, a solid piece of evidence for her supposed death.

Maul. Maul said he'd told Ahsoka everything he knew of Palpatine's plans, what that duplicitous old bastard would've had in store for him, for the Republic. She hadn't believed in the former Sith, and from the look of her now she still didn't. Her faith in him was like another stab between the ribs, and when Anakin smiled again, he was unable to contain all the gleams of pain that reached his eyes.

It was getting harder and harder to keep this up.

"That's just what I like to hear!" Nevertheless, he persisted. "I should mention I had a run-in with him. In Pandora." Sombering up some, glimpses of Anakin the Jedi General (or the ghost of him) rippled across his demeanor as a thoughtful frown sat on his lips. He supposed this slightly more somber subject was befitting of a more formal mood, but it wouldn't last. He didn't want it to last.

Despite the thousandfold other subjects left hanging in the air, the proverbial bantha in the living room that left his heart tight and heavy with burden. "With no Mandalore, no Order, no Republic, no Separatists…" No Empire. "With all those factions behind us, he shouldn't pose much of an issue." Especially not when they had something of an alliance, though it goes without saying that trust was tenuous at best. "But keep an eye out just in case, alright?"

Saying that made the entire fight she had two years ago seem far more easy then it had been. The fall out she had not addressed at all, she didn't want to address it. Maybe he already knew though. Someone might have told him, Cal had already told Obi-Wan. But she knew Anakin well enough that there was something else to say. But she didn't want to ruin this either, so it was easier to postpone. Later, was an option again after all.

Luckily it was easy to steer the conversation back away from everything that had happened after. Maul being in Pandora wasn't a good thing by any means. She frowned, or what constituted for frowning when you had no eyebrows but two prominent facial markings in about the same place. There was a chance he was from a point before she had captured him, or before she had set him loose. But that he was there at all was a concern to begin with.

¨He didn't just have the mandalorians, he was controlling the pykes¨ and the pykes had seemed afraid of him, or at least they seemed to be afraid on Oba Diah And there was that ship that he had almost escaped with. He might not have those factions behind him now. But there was no telling what he could do. Maul wouldn't be an issue for Anakin. And she might make it out okay. But there were others in Pandora that would not fare so well against someone like Maul. It didn't exactly sit right with her. But Ahsoka nodded non the less. ¨I will¨ it would be another thing to keep track of. Just in case.

¨Does master Obi-Wan know?¨ with or without factions given how focused Maul had been on Obi-Wan it would be best to give him the heads up. ¨Did he say anything about our fight?¨ or about his visions. His visions of Anakin might have been flawed but he did know about the chancellor, emperor, whatever his title may be.

Somehow the Pykes falling under Maul's control didn't surprise him one bit. The Dathomirian did seem almost too eager to announce his plans of assembling a new... underworld empire. As for the state of their own galaxy and the Pyke Syndicate, Anakin didn't envy them. Between Maul and Tyranus (and what followed soon after), they must have had their hands full.

And someone had a busy retirement from the Order. Running into the Pykes? Raising a brow, Anakin regarded her curiously, most curiously. Clearly they had a crap-tonne of catching up to do, and it was apparent in the questioning of his gaze alone that he was struggling to keep his curiosity contained. He wouldn't have had it any other way were it not for the landmines they would inevitably have to maneuver around. Or step on.

Oh, frag, there was another one. Obi-Wan.

"I gave him the same warning. He'll be fine," he responded quickly, not displaying too much concern over the old man. He'd successfully fended off Maul, what, four times now? And far be it for Anakin to underestimate the potency of Master Kenobi's perfected Soresu in a pinch. He would have to be mad to.

"And... yeah." Flushing a sigh out of his lungs, something in his eyes seemed to darken, another shade briefly passing over his face. His wavering blue eyes flickered briefly to the snow-touched ground. "He said he told you everything and tried convincing you to join him. I kinda... cuffed him in the face for that," he confessed, drawing up a hand to rub the back of his neck. "But you didn't bite." When his gaze lifted back to Ahsoka, there was no regret in them, certainly no blame directed at her end. "So what if he was right? None of what he said could have been remotely credible at the time."

Those blue eyes softening, it was like for that instance the cloud had passed in spite of the weight of all that remained unspoken, another glimpse of his old sunlight shining through. It was hysterical how much they were tiptoeing around, and yet... "More than anything, Jedi or no Jedi, I'm proud of you."

We'll have to catch up later. Those had been her words right. ¨It´s a long story¨ she offered somewhat lamely at his clear look of curiosity. And really it was, she hadn't exactly intended to get caught up with the pykes or spice trading or even maul for that matter. But once she was in it she couldn't really look away either.

It's not that she doubted Master Kenobi´s skills, he was after all a master Jedi and she had seen him fight in plenty of battles. But as far as she had been able to determine Maul had been obsessed with Obi-Wan. It didn't entirely sit right with her. But for now she would let it go. Even if from now on she would be watching just a bit more attentively than she already was. The last two years she had gotten used to looking over her shoulder anyway.

Ooh. Well the question of course was ´What had maul said´ because Ahsoka certainly didn't trust the former sith lord. And really no one should. She gave a grin though when he mentioned punching him. Now that was something she had wanted to see. Still it was nice to know that he had been as displeased with the idea as she had been. ¨Of course not¨ as if it was even an option that she would have joined him.

¨He might have been right about Palpatine but he wasn't right about you¨ what had started out as a somewhat snippy remark got a twinge of sadness near the end. ¨I knew Maul could have been right about the chancellor, I talked to Obi-Wan before he left for Utapau. He filled me in on some things¨ but even she couldn't have imagined that Palpatine had been that close to his totalitarian power. But with the galaxy being how it was she knew for certain that he had nothing to do with it.

It meant the world to her. Hearing that he was still proud of her despite everything that had happened. She had often wondered in the past few years. But the first she had never reached out and later he was of course gone. ¨Thank you master¨ she said, genuinely glad to hear it. ¨I know leaving the order wasn't what you wanted¨ she doubted she could ever really forget the look on his face when she made it clear she wasn't about to return. ¨But i´m here for you as a friend¨ as family even, or at least she had long considered him her brother in all ways but blood ¨If you want me to be¨

When she spoke of Palpatine, his rage spiked besides himself, his jaw tightened, and his hand began to tremble, balling into a tight fist at his side as if to temper the visceral movement. But now was not the time for that. Anakin, for his part, simply listened as best he could to the young woman who had been his one and only padawan.

And he let himself smile at her last words. Wasn't what he wanted made for a charming euphemism— Ahsoka leaving the Order had devastated him, but even then he'd known none of that to be her fault, pretend to be the consummate Jedi by trying to convince himself that he could let go. Then he'd tried to put the Council's botched attempt at justice behind him in spite of the resentment encroaching into his world like toxic mold. 'Emotion, yet peace,' and all that.

It was all for nothing. But he didn't need to let that drag him down here.

"Ahsoka," he started. With everything fated to go so horribly wrong by his own hand, he couldn't stomach lying to her here. He couldn't bring himself to smile and nod at her claim that Maul hadn't been right in everything, but any attempt at a confession would only lodge itself in his throat and refuse to budge. His mouth opened, closed, and opened again as the turmoil of emotions stormed in his eyes.

Finally, he managed, his voice strained and subdued, "There's so much I need to talk to you about- what I've learned... of what's to come, that I don't even know how I can begin." This would have to suffice for the time being. It was the only way they could remain as friends, after all, and he held onto the strength to keep going. "I'm still... processing. Just know that as long as I'm still me and whole, I will always be there for you as whoever you need."

Willing that tension to leave his limbs, he spread out his arms, gesturing at the picturesque winter town around them with another try at good cheer. "Are you hungry? Brattur might not look like much, but it's got everything you could ever want for."

She could tell that he was dealing with a lot of things. Even before he said so himself. And she could sympathise. Clearly he already knew what was going to happen. To the galaxy, to him. And she couldn't imagine what that was like. She hadn't encountered anyone yet that was from a point in time further than hers. She could imagine that at some point the rebellion would be large enough to be an actual threat to the empire, and she hoped she would be there to see it. But before that day she would give her all for them, and for the galaxy.

So she gave a nodd. She would always be there for him. Especially now that she could do so again. She hadn't said those words as lightly as she had in the past. And well they had the time now. She could give him the time he needed to process it all. Ahsoka didn't understand what it was to know when you would die. Or even how he would die. Here, In Pandora there wasn't much either of them could do to stop, change or prevent what was going to happen. The best they could do was use the time they had.

¨I could eat¨ she really could. She had started on this trip pretty early in the morning. And she had just walked the last part of it not wanting to be dropped off right at the gates as she hadn't been entirely sure what to expect. And though she hadn't expected anything as quiet as this maybe that was exactly why he had chosen it in the first place.¨Everything except a decent climate¨ did he have to pick a place with snow in late may?

¨It´s not very different from where i´ve been staying¨ maybe a bit smaller than Raada? But then the town in Raada was the only town on the entire moon. Thabeska had been bigger but it´s size had also meant that the empire had come there far sooner, and it had been precisely why she left the first time around.

Right then. Baby steps. There was much, much more to talk about than over how he'd set fire to the Order and everything he swore to protect, or even about how he would spend the next twenty or so years inflicting nothing but misery and pain unto the galaxy.

Sooner or later, he would have to tell her. Sooner or later, Ahsoka would find out if he didn't. Even though none of those things had transpired in his timeline yet, even though he still couldn't fathom crumbling down that abruptly, setting lightsabers to beloved Masters and starry-eyed younglings within the day of his outrage for Palpatine's deceit.

But he did fathom it. He remembered experiencing that descent as if he had lived through it as a nightmare.

"Have you ever tried ramen before?" Anakin inquired brightly, jerking his thumb in the general direction of a corner cafe not far from where they stood. Technically the corner cafe. He could count the number of eateries in Brattur on one hand, which was basically par for the course for a village of this tightly knit scale. Quaint, picturesque, idyllic and somehow bereft of scarcity and suffering at least for the essentials.

It was literally like the anti-Mos Espa (aside from the element of being ruled by a monstrosity from the shadows — though Jabba wished he was as formidable as an eldritch abomination), which was fine enough for him.

"Oh, and..." Sighing outward, his shoulders slumped somewhat as they settled into a leisurely pace along the street. "Bombshell of the day: I've been staying with my grandson from the future. Also ran into my son, also from the future, not too far back. Such is life." At least that was out of the way now. "Your turn."

Had she tried ramen before. Possibly not. Unless in their galaxy it was known under a different name. But she hadn't had the chance to try much in the way of foodstuff. Even after the army she had often fallen back on ration bars. A choice which she really should reconsider those things were absolutely the worst possible thing out there as far as taste went. ¨I haven´t. What´s a ramen?¨ whatever it was it couldn´t be that bad.

After everything she had been through over the past few years. With the war and the end of it and the empire. Ahsoka liked to think that there was little out there that could still surprise her. Truly surprise her. Stop you in your tracks and surprise her. Then again this was Anakin Skywalker, and her master had a penchant for the unexpected. As soon as the initial shock had passed she took a few quick steps to catch up to him and his leisurely pace.

¨When did you and senator Amidala have the time to become parents¨ They were in the middle of a war. Really, she had only been gone for a little under a year. And she was pretty certain that he wasn't a parent when she had left. If it was that kind of shock to her then how would it have been for him. Was this what he had wanted to talk to her about all those years ago now? That was another thing she didn't really want to consider. And neither did she want to consider that by her time they both would have died. The galaxy didn´t need more orphans.

¨Congrats¨ it might have all ended in tragedy but that was still a good thing. And if his son and grandson were here then maybe she could also meet them sooner or later. Still there wasn't much, if anything, she could say to follow that up. Well there was but she didn't want to talk about the empire or the rebellion. She absolutely wasn't going to bring up Kaeden. Which left her with her pretty little to talk about. She also didn't really want to worry him, so being tracked down by the black sun syndicate was also a no go. ¨I'm now considered the best mechanic on two planets¨ one planet and a moon really. But it was the thought that counted right.

This was what they needed: something light and fresh and non-depression inducing, with more than enough breadth to clear the air about other lighter and fresher topics to boot. "Better than the slush they issued at the GAR. So much better," Anakin declared, a flair of melodrama about him. Hell, the bugs he'd eaten in the outer rim sieges were better than GAR-standard rations. Absolute delicacies in comparison.

The crunch of snow beneath their heels shifted into the soft thud of clean cobblestone as they arrived near an unassuming gabled building of timber and stone at the corner of the row. Upon its sign painted the letters he knew to be English in decorative font: Café.

He looked back to where Ahsoka had stalled, a knowing and exasperated smile hanging lopsidedly on his lips. One skeleton in Anakin's cupboard that he was more than happy to divulge was the secret marriage that didn't have to be a secret anymore. Though for those closest to him, and in hindsight, he supposed he hadn't been as discreet as he should've been. There was a time where he would've choked on his own tongue the instant Ahsoka uttered the words Senator Amidala.

"That's the thing, we didn't. It's rough keeping up with a marriage with a war going on, okay?" He pushed the door open to the chime of entry bells, holding it long enough for Ahsoka to follow. A blast of warm air tinged with spices greeted them from within. "When did you suspect?"

His eyes lingered over her, blinking once then twice at her own obviously lackluster answer. There was an impulse to probe further, that he knew to immediately quash. Asking Ahsoka about details meant asking about the Empire, and more Empire talk led... led to that path he was not yet ready to face with her.

Besides, he knew where he would've found her again: with the Rebellion, their paths crossing once more at that Temple of Malachor.

"... and what do you mean, only two?" he gently bantered instead.

The food they had on the Venerator was a garbage standard and he knew it same as she did. ¨Almost anything would be better than that¨ she snipped back. Almost anything though, there were certain lines that she drew. And even though her diet consisted mostly of protein she certainly wasn't going to be eating bugs. Obi-Wan had told her those stories and the idea still made her gag.

As they walked into the cafe he answered her question. At least this time she was better prepared for the unexpected so she didn't keep standing in the doorway like some youngling that was just informed they could go on the gathering. ¨How long have you been married for?¨ she followed up just as quickly. Was the fact that they were to be parents the reason they had gotten married? That made somewhat sense right? There certainly were planets in the galaxy where such a thing would be expected, though Ahsoka wasn't sure Naboo was one of them. And at any rate, how had he even gotten married without the council knowing.

¨I didn't think you'd be married, i just thought you and the senator were dating¨ that was what most people did right dating? Even three years away from the order Ahsoka´s love life wasn't much and her knowledge of those things was even less. ¨You´ve always been weird about senator Amidala¨ but when she had just become his padawan she had written it off as her master being weird. It took her a little bit of time to catch on it was specifically her he was so worried about. Still Senator Amidala got herself in a lot of trouble so she had plenty of opportunities to draw her conclusions from.

¨I knew for certain after i smuggled Senator Amidala to Raxus¨ her little stunt behind enemy lines had been a particular one. ¨I know you were angry with me for going to a separatist planet but it seemed you were far more angry that I could have put her in danger¨ that and it had given her a chance to see how Senator Amidala talked about Anakin. Which had been just as weird as how Anakin talked about her. It had been the final nails in the coffin.

¨I´ve only been at it a short time. Not all of us are prodigies at age nine¨ she batted back. ¨I´ll get to the rest of the western reaches eventually¨ and she would. But just not as a mechanic, Ahsla had played her part. The rebellion however was active there and Fulcrum had a new part to play. Once she got back. At least this way she wasn't completely lying. Fulcrum and the rebellion would start front he western reaches.

The café was obviously nothing fancy. Anakin passed their orders ("two ramen specials") to the lady manning the practically never used cash register up front, and that was that. No exchange of credits or anything. It was... odd, and it'd certainly struck him as bizarre at first, but he'd since come to appreciate Brattur's more convenient quirks. The village even had a utilitarian sort of way of enabling his initial impulse to self-isolate from the world at large.

He went on to claim a reasonably spacious booth for them, figuring it'd be more private and convenient overall than the more crowded sitting area flanking the bar. Sliding into the seat opposite hers, he rested his forearms over the wiped clean tables and raised an eyebrow at the concept of dating.

Yes, that's what... normal people did. They dated and courted one another for some months, at least, before getting into matrimonial vows. Holding back a wince, he had to bury his head into his palm with a muffled groan when Ahsoka brought up Raxus. "The Separatists did try to assassinate her a handful of times," he reminded, albeit with a self-aware and even contrite pinch about him. Of course Ahsoka had suspected; and to think, they'd thought they had gotten away with just the impression that they were particularly close good friends for all that time. In hindsight, it was silly. A Galactic Senator and Jedi General, reduced to lovestruck school children around one another. And who could blame them?

"We were married a little while before Christophsis, actually," he went on to explain, before quickly adding with a lift of his palms and a breath of a laugh about him. "There were no secret babies while I was training you," Anakin reassured, only guessing at what she must be thinking, "I didn't even know she was expecting until after you were off to Mandalore."

They hadn't even gotten the chance to know the twins, before... before

He rehoned his focused onto their sunny banter, refocused on the grin occupying his own face. "You'd better. I'm still counting on you to carry my legacy."

It was a small place but the atmosphere was good. Pretty similar to the one at Selda´s even though the place itself was in no way alike. Well she supposed they both served food and drink. Ahsoka briefly glanced around the place. If only to familiarize herself with it and to see just how much she was standing out here. There were plenty of different species on Pandora but she had noticed that the amount of non-humans present greatly differed from region to region.

She couldn't help herself from grinning though. She might not have exactly gotten to see this side of him. But it wasn't as unfamiliar as she might have feared. If anything it was more a confirmation of what she had long suspected there to be. ¨I´m sure Padme knew that when she suggested going¨ she replied a grin of her own. Remembering the way she had talked about Anakin should have stood out more than it did at the time. But then that was hindsight for you.

Before Christophsis even. The entire time he had been training her they had been married and she had just thought they were dating. She was surprised of course. The council obviously never had caught on. But she definitely wasn't the only one that had noticed there had been something though right. ¨No the secret babies happened after I left¨ she liked to think she would have caught on. Except that he himself apparently had not known until Mandalore.

And that struck her as odd. Everything had happened so quick then. They both would die so soon after and while she was no expert Padme should have been pregnant for a while then. ¨You should have called me to share the good news¨ she said it lightly. Almost teasingly. But in truth it was her own regret that played there. In those days she had wanted to reach out a few times. Tried a few times but it never worked. And then it was too late. Those regrets were hers to live with now though.

Now she actually laughed. He wouldn't know of course that she had chosen the name Fulcrum as her code name because of him. That she had picked up her work under her false identity because of him. It was more true then he knew. ¨Isn't that what children are supposed to do? Carry on their parents´ legacies and all¨ or maybe they could carry on Padme´s legacy. She always had been a voice for peace in the senate. And by her time the galaxy could use that.

They were just going to keep this... mutual strategic dance around directly addressing whatever transpired during the days after their respective missions on Mandalore and Coruscant, were they? That was fine by him. Perfectly fine.

"I would've wanted you to stay on focus," he blithely returned. They were always supposed to talk about everything after; that had been his unspoken promise during the chaos of the final days of the war. Only, after never arrived. Pandora had been their consolation aftermath, and here they were again, pushing vital matters back.

But not everything. He sure as hell wasn't going to procrastinate on everything. There were so many other things to be said that he wouldn't even come close to running out in just one little reunion.

Anakin fell silent as the waitress came around with two massive, steaming bowls on a tray. He paused to thank her as she left the bowls with their respective utensils, two pairs of chopsticks, atop their table. His eyes were curiously, almost playfully pinned on Ahsoka's reaction to her first ramen experience as he snatched up his chopsticks and snapped them apart.

"Out of the... twins," he started again, "Luke received guidance from Obi-Wan and Yoda to rebuild the Order. Leia became a Galactic Senator." The twins were not his legacy, or at least he couldn't bring himself to regard them as such. Luke belonged to the Jedi (regardless of how that unfolded), and Leia— who rightfully hated his guts— carried the Organa and Naberrie torch. "Kylo," he hesitated again, consciously providing the name Ben chose for himself rather than the one he insisted on discarding, "is Leia's son. They're all strong in the Force, but Kylo is by far the most conflicted. I've been trying to work with him."

Yup, that was a summary alright. Clearing his throat, he took this juncture to duck his head and slurp a few ramen noodles.

"... shit's karking weird," he had to mutter aloud, off the cuff. "Not the ramen," he clarified with a few downward blinks. "The ramen's great! How's yours?"

Yeah there it was again. We will talk about it after. It all came down to that sentiment didn´t it. She had second guessed a lot of her choices and actions that one included. But this was a second chance of sorts. After was now, or at least as close as they were going to get. With the reality of the end of the war threatening to dampen any nice conversation that could be had.

The food looked… strange. Not like anything she had ever eaten before. But then it was a big galaxy and though she had visited a lot of places it usually wasn't as a tourist and they often had just stuck to standard rations. Even though Ramen looked very different from that it did look, as promised, a lot better than it. She was keenly aware that he was observing her. She followed his example with the utensils, and though she was quite dextrous it took her a few times before she managed to get it right. Once she did she started on her own meal.

Ahsoka had suspected Obi-Wan had survived. Or rather once she talked to him and Obi-Wan discussed the message he apparently had sent out she had suspected it. But it was nice to hear it confirmed non the less. Hearing Yoda survived also somehow wasn't as shocking. Maybe their galaxy was´t as empty as she had thought it to be.

¨She's already a lot like her mother.¨ those had been Bails exact words. And she had been mulling them over ever since. They had felt like a test that she should have known the answer to. But didn´t. It had bothered her then but with everything going on she also couldn't press the matter further. Now knowing what she did a few more pieces of information slotted into place. ¨I think i´ve met your daughter¨ not a galactic senator. But a two year old that was already keenly inquisitive and bright. The moment she spoke the words, however careful, she also knew they might prompt more questions. A mechanic probably shouldn't be talking with Senator Bail Organa.

Kylo then seemed to be the origin of the other force presence she felt. A force presence she wasn't entirely with the light, that much was obvious. ¨You´re a good teacher. I'm sure you´ll get through to him¨ he had been a great teacher to her. And this was family, but that could also make things harder. Ahsoka had to admit she was more than a bit curious to talk to his kids and grandchildren.

¨I don't know. This ramen is pretty weird¨ while listening she had taken a few bites here and there. ¨But definitely better then what we had on the resolute¨

He wondered how much of his uncertainty and dare-he-think dread, toward himself, toward Kylo Ren, toward their future, slipped through what remained of their training bond.

Sure, the bond that had been mostly dormant upon her descending the steps of the Temple of Coruscant suddenly flared back into life the moment Anakin detected her presence in Brattur, not to mention on the Venator, but it was a tenuous thing compared to what had been. An innate desire to strengthen it again from his end took hold fleetingly over him, but that risked revealing too much of himself too soon. He wasn't ready. He didn't know when he would be ready, but his prospects didn't look too promising with the hawkbats noisily declaring war against his insides at the thought.

It was a miracle, if not a testament to the ramen and/or his disconcertingly new mastery of compartmentalization, that he could preserve his appetite.

"It's a complicated situation," he trailed off with a distant sobriety, eyeing her curiously when Ahsoka spoke of his daughter, the line of thought naturally pointing to House Organa of Alderaan. If Ahsoka survived Malachor, could she have been on Alderaan at that time? A clench of fear tightened around his chest, and he found his appetite leaving him after all as color drained from his face, his hands freezing around his utensils. Did he think it was going to be that easy? Compartmentalizing.

Good teachers didn't raise their lightsabers against their students with the intent to kill. They would never. He should never. Good teachers didn't paint a fraction of his future betrayals.

The seat squeaked beneath him as he sat back, pivoting desperately before she could notice. "Not going to tell me about the mechanic life or what?" He smiled tightly, deliberately avoiding mention of the Organas. "I didn't hear from you for months."
